The European MOTTLES project set-up a newgeneration network for ozone(O 3)monitoring in 17 plots in France,Italy and *** monitoring stations allowed:(1)estimating the accumulated exposure AOT40 and stomatal O 3 fl uxes(PODY)with an hourly threshold of uptake(Y)to represent the detoxifi cation capacity of trees(POD1,with Y=1 nmol O 3 m^−2 s^−1 per leaf area);and(2)collecting data of forest-response indicators,*** defoliation and visible foliar O 3-like injury over the time period 2017–*** soil water content was the most important parameter aff ecting crown defoliation and was a key factor aff ecting the severity of visible foliar O 3-like injury on the dominant tree species in a *** soil water content is thus an essential parameter in the PODY estimation,particularly for water-limited *** assessment based on stomatal fl ux-based standard and on real plant symptoms is more appropriated than the exposure-based method for protecting *** fl ux-eff ect relationships,we derived fl ux-based critical levels(CLef)for forest protection against visible foliar O 3-like *** recommend CLef of 5 and 12 mmol m^−2 POD1 for broadleaved species and conifers,*** using PODY as legislative standard in Europe,we recommend using the CLec for≥25%of crown defoliation in a plot:17,000 and 19,000 nmol mol^−1 h AOT40 for conifers and broadleaved species,respectively.

BACKGROUND In patients with metastatic colorectal cancer(mCRC),the treatment options are limited and have been proved to be affected by rat sarcoma virus(RAS)mutational *** RAS wild-type(wt)patients,the combination of antiepidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)monoclonal antibodies with chemotherapy(CT)is more effective than CT *** the other hand,RAS-mutated patients are not eligible for treatment with anti-EGFR *** SUMMARY Eleven patients with initially RAS-mutated mCRC were followed from diagnosis to May *** the time of cell-free DNA determination,five patients had undergone one CT line,five patients had undergone two CT lines,and one patient had undergone three CT lines(all in combination with bevacizumab).At the second and third treatment lines[second line(2L),third line(3L)],patients with neo-RAS wt received a combination of CT and *** neo-RAS wt patients treated with anti-EGFR,our findings indicated an increase in progression-free survival for both 2L and 3L(14.5 mo,P=0.119 and 3.9 mo,P=0.882,respectively).Regarding 2L overall survival,we registered a slight increase in neo-RAS wt patients treated with anti-EGFR(33.6 mo vs 32.4 mo,P=0.385).At data cut-off,two patients were still alive:A RAS-mutated patient undergoing 3L treatment and a neo-RAS wt patient who received 2L treatment with anti-EGFR(ongoing).CONCLUSION Our case series demonstrated that monitoring RAS mutations in mCRC by liquid biopsy may provide an additional treatment line for neo-RAS wt patients.

AIM:To investigate if echocardiographic and hemodynamic determinations obtained at the time of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS)can provide prognostic information that will enhance risk stratification of ***:We reviewed medical records of 467 patients who underwent TIPS between July 2003 and December 2011 at our *** recorded information regarding patient demographics,underlying liver disease,indication for TIPS,baseline laboratory values,hemodynamic determinations at the time of TIPS,and echocardiographic measurements both before and after *** recorded patient comorbidities that may affect hemodynamic and echocardiographic *** also calculated Model for Endstage Liver Disease(MELD)score and Child Turcotte Pugh(CTP)*** following pre-and post-TIPS echocardiographic determinations were recorded:Left ventricular ejection fraction,right ventricular(RV)systolic pressure,subjective RV dilation,and subjective RV *** recorded the following hemodynamic measurements:Right atrial(RA)pressure before and after TIPS,inferior vena cava pressure before and after TIPS,free hepatic vein pressure,portal vein pressure before and after TIPS,and hepatic venous pressure gradient(HVPG).RESULTS:We reviewed 418 patients with portal hypertension undergoing *** pressure increased by a mean ± SD of 4.8 ± 3.9 mmH g(P < 0.001),HVPG decreased by 6.8 ± 3.5 mmH g(P < 0.001).In multivariate linear regression analysis,a higher MELD score,lower platelet count,splenectomy and a higher portal vein pressure were independent predictors of higher RA pressure(R = 0.55).Three variables predicted 3-mo mortality after TIPS in a multivariate analysis:Age,MELD score,and CTP grade *** in the RA pressure after TIPS predicted long-term mortality(per 1 mm Hg change,HR = 1.03,95%CI:1.01-1.06,P < 0.012).CONCLUSION:RA pressure increased immediately after TIPS particularly in patients with worse liver function,portal hypertension,emergent TI

Purpose:This study aimed to quantify the dose-response association and the minimal effective dose of leisure-time physical activity(PA)to prevent mortality and cardiovascular disease in adults with type 2 ***:Cross-country comparison of 2 prospective cohort studies including 14,913 and 17,457 population-based adults with type 2 diabetes from the UK and *** leisure-time PA was self-reported and categorized by metabolic equivalent hours per week(MET-h/week)according to World Health Organization recommendations:none,below recommendation(>0-7.49 MET-h/week);at recommended level(7.5-14.9 MET-h/week);above recommendation(>15 MET-h/week).Mortality and cardiovascular disease data were obtained from national ***:During a median follow-up of 12.4 and 9.7 years,in the UK and China cohorts,repectively,higher levels of leisure-time PA were inversely associated with all-cause(1571 and 2351 events)and cardiovascular mortality(392 and 1060 events),mostly consistent with a linear dose-response *** below,at,and above recommendations,compared with no activity,yielded all-cause mortality hazard ratios of0.94(95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.79-1.12),0.90(95%CI:0.74-1.10),and 0.85(95%CI:0.70-1.02)in British adults and 0.87(95%CI:0.68-1.10),0.88(95%CI:0.74-1.03),and 0.77(95%CI:0.70-0.85)in Chinese *** with cardiovascular mortality were more pronounced in British adults(0.80(95%CI:0.58-1.11),0.75(95%CI:0.52-1.09),and 0.69(95%CI:0.48-0.97))but less pronounced in Chinese adults(1.06(95%CI:0.76-1.47),1.01(95%CI:0.80-1.28),and 0.79(95%CI:0.69-0.92)).PA at recommended levels was not associated with lower rates of major adverse cardiovascular events(2345 and 4458 events).Conclusion:Leisure-time PA at the recommended levels was not convincingly associated with lower mortality and had no association with risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in British or Chinese adults with type 2 ***-time PA above current recom

Both classical and wave-mechanical monochromatic waves may be treated in terms of exact ray-trajectories (encoded in the structure itself of Helmholtz-like equations) whose mutual coupling is the one and only cause of any diffraction and interference process. In the case of Wave Mechanics, de Broglie’s merging of Maupertuis’s and Fermat’s principles (see Section 3) provides, without resorting to the probability-based guidance-laws and flow-lines of the Bohmian theory, the simple law addressing particles along the Helmholtz rays of the relevant matter waves. The purpose of the present research was to derive the exact Hamiltonian ray-trajectory systems concerning, respectively, classical electromagnetic waves, non-relativistic matter waves and relativistic matter waves. We faced then, as a typical example, the numerical solution of non-relativistic wave-mechanical equation systems in a number of numerical applications, showing that each particle turns out to “dances a wave-mechanical dance” around its classical trajectory, to which it reduces when the ray-coupling is neglected. Our approach reaches the double goal of a clear insight into the mechanism of wave-particle duality and of a reasonably simple computability. We finally compared our exact dynamical approach, running as close as possible to Classical Mechanics, with the hydrodynamic Bohmian theory, based on fluid-like “guidance laws”.

Photorespiration is an essential metabolic process in leaves that facilitates recovery of carbon lost by the oxygenase reaction of Rubisco and avoids the accumulation of the toxic product, 2-phosphoglycolate （2PG） of this reaction （Bauwe et al., 2012）. However, there is also evidence to suggest that photorespiration has a more complex role during normal growth than the mere detoxification of 2PG and the recovery of 3-phosphoglycerate （3PGA）（Bauwe et al., 2012）.

This study investigated and defined the optimal processing parameters for the electrospinning of polysulfone polymer solutions with N,*** of parameters such as solute concentration,electrical voltage,and working distance were correlated with the quality of the obtained nanofibers using morphological characterization via scanning electron microscopy(SEM).Carbonyl iron additive was dispersed in the polymer solutions,using ultrasonic tip,and the material processed via electrospinning with aforementioned parameters *** with the property of interaction with electromagnetic waves were *** dispersion of different concentrations of the additive and electromagnetic characterizations in the X-band of microwaves(8.2 and 12.4 GHz),using vector network analyzer(VNA)and rectangular waveguide,allowed the identification of the materials electromagnetic *** parameters allowed the calculation of reflected and transmitted energy by the material.

Primary Assumptions and Guidance Laws in Wave Mechanics

In an article written by Louis de Broglie in 1959 (30 years after the Nobel prize rewarding his foundation of Wave Mechanics), the most challenging problem raised by the Bohr, Heisenberg and Born Standard Quantum Mechanics (SQM) was pointed out in the renunciation to describe “a permanent localization in space, and therefore a well-defined trajectory” for any moving particle. This challenge is taken up in the present paper, showing that de Broglie’s Primary Assumption p=hk, predicting the wave-particle duality, does also allow to obtain from the energy-dependent form of the Schrödinger and/or Klein-Gordon equations the Guidance Laws piloting particles along well-defined trajectories. The energy-independent equations, on the other hand, may only give rise—both in SQM and in the Bohmian approach—to probabilistic descriptions, overshadowing the role of de Broglie’s matter waves in physical space.

Pulsed bias is an attempt to improve the performance of oscillators in integrated circuits as a result of architectural innovation. Given the relatively low value of resonator quality factor achievable on-chip, for a specified bias voltage level, pulsed bias may result in a lower power consumption and in an improvement of the spectral purity of the oscillation. The main drawback of this approach is the need to introduce a certain time delay in order to properly position pulses with respect to oscillation waveform. Delay accumulation requires further energy dissipation and introduce additional jitter. In this paper we present a new architecture capable to avoid unnecessary delay, based on the idea to apply the pulsed bias approach to a quadrature oscillator. A ?rst circuit-level implementation of this concept is presented with simulation results.
