Background: Incorporation of HPV tests into cervical cancer screening programs may be advantageous over conventional cytology, especially in developing nations, where the largest burden of cervical cancer is observed. Objectives: to conduct an evaluation of commercially available molecular HPV tests in Brazilian women. Study design: two groups were recruited: group A was composed of 511 women referred to the clinics because of a previous abnormal Pap test while group B consisted of 2464 subjects under routine screening. Cervical samples were collected using SurePath liquid cytology (LBC) device, and split into aliquots which were submitted to molecular testing by Hybrid Capture and cobas HPV. Colposcopy and biopsies were made according to the standard guidelines, directed by cytological diagnosis. Results: Prevalence of HSIL was 5.97% and 0.7% in Group A and B respectively. High-Risk HPV DNA was found in about 9% of group B women, while in group A this frequency was 24%. Having CIN3+ as the study end-point, the negative predictive values for molecular methods were above 99.8%. All “in-situ” and invasive cervical carcinomas were detected by both HPV nucleic acid assays. Conclusion: Use of HPV DNA testing was feasible and highly sensitive in cancer screening settings of Brazil.

Asymptotic Analysis in a Gas-Solid Combustion Model with Pattern Formation

the authors consider a free interface problem which stems from a gas-solid model in combustion with pattern formation. A third-order, fully nonlinear, self-consistent equation for the flame front is derived. Asymptotic methods reveal that the interface approaches a solution to the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation. Numerical results which illustrate the dynamics are presented.

Early social conditions affect female fecundity in hermaphrodites

Social conditions experienced prior to sexual maturity influence reproduction later in life in many animals. In simulta- neous hermaphrodites, variation in mating group size influences reproductive investment. As the mating group size increases, re- productive resources devoted to the female function decrease in favor of the male function. Prior to sexual maturity, many her- maphrodites have a protandrous phase during which they produce sperm and can fertilize hermaphrodites＇ eggs. In the simulta- neously hermaphroditic polychaete worm Ophryotrocha diadema, the cost of male reproduction during adolescence is spread over the whole energy budget of worms as shown by a reduced growth rate, a delayed age at sexual maturity and the shortening of life span compared to protandrous males that do not reproduce. Little is known on whether social conditions experienced dur- ing development affect reproductive investment of immature individuals. We investigated whether social conditions affected the length of the protandrous phase, body size and also the subsequent female fecundity of same-age protandrous individuals of O. diadema, which did not had to face competition for egg fertilization. Results show that in large group sizes protandrous males lengthened their protandrous phase, slowed down body growth and decreased their individual investment at the first egg laying compared to protandrous males that were reared in isolation. In the successive egg layings worms adjusted their egg output to the current social conditions. We interpreted these results as an indication that early social conditions represent a social stress result- ing in a reduction of the overall reproductive resources up to the first egg laying .

Evolutionary consequences of deception： Complexity and informational content of colony signature are favored by social parasitism

Nestmate recognition codes show remarkable chemical complexity, involving multiple biochemical pathways. this complexity provides the opportunity to evaluate the ecological and social conditions that favor the evolution of complex signaling. We investigated how the chemical signatures of three populations of the social paper wasp Polistes biglumis differed in terms of concentration of hydrocarbons, proportions of branched hydrocarbons and overall variation. We tested whether the variation in chemical signatures among populations could be explained by the prevalence of social parasites or whether this was just an effect of local abiotic conditions which influenced the composition of the hydrocarbon cuticular layer. We studied the chemical signa- ture in three populations in which obligate social parasites differed in the selection pressures they imposed on host populations. Within each population, we restricted our analyses to non-parasitized hosts, to avoid potential short-term effects of parasite pres- ence on the host chemical signatures. We found that host colonies in parasitized populations had more diverse profiles than the parasite-free population. Moreover, the overall concentration of hydrocarbons and the relative proportion of branched hydrocar- bons were larger in the parasitized populations, relative to the non-parasitized one. this is to our knowledge the first evidence in favour of the hypothesis that different traits in the host chemical signatures as a whole undergo evolutionary changes resulting from directional or balancing selection imposed by social parasites. We conclude that obligate social parasites act as ＇engines of diversity＇ on host chemical signatures and operate in favor of a geographic mosaic of diverging communication codes

Wastes deriving from steel industry, containing large amounts of iron oxides and heavy metals, when collected in landfills are subjected to atmospheric agents, with consequent release of toxic substances in the soil and groundwater. the reuse of these wastes as raw materials for the production of advanced materials is a viable way both to overcome the environmental impact and to reduce the disposal costs,proposing new technologically advanced materials. this work aims to simulate these interesting glassceramics by using glass cullet coming from recycled municipal waste and high amount of iron（III） oxide（from 25 wt% to 50 wt%）, the prevalent component of steel waste. the oxide was mixed with glass cullet and vitrified. the samples composition and the microstructure were investigated by scanning electron microscopy（SEM）, and X-ray diffraction（XRD） was used to evaluate the nature of the crystalline *** chemical stability of the materials, in terms of ionic release into saline solution, was assessed. the electrical behavior of the samples was also investigated by varying the iron ions content and controlling the crystallization process. It is possible to obtain chemically stable materials with a nearly semiconducting behavior.

On a Strongly Damped Wave Equation for the Flame Front

In two-dimensional free-interface problems, the front dynamics can be modeled by single parabolic equations such as the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation (K-S). However, away from the stability threshold, the structure of the front equation may be more involved. In this paper, a generalized K-S equation, a nonlinear wave equation with a strong damping operator, is considered. As a consequence, the associated semigroup turns out to be analytic. Asymptotic convergence to K-S is shown, while numerical results illustrate the dynamics.

研究了水泥与减水剂的相容性。采用萘系(naphthalene,NSF)和聚羧酸(polycarboxylate-based,PCE)系两类高效减水剂,5批次的6种广泛分布于意大利不同区域的水泥为原料。通过改变高效减水剂的掺入量使拌和后的砂浆和混凝土具有恒定的工作性;通过测定拌合后1h内的流动度保持度以表征每种减水剂的工作性经时损失。还测定了砂浆和混凝土1,7d和28d的抗压强度。结果表明:与萘系高效减水剂相比,聚羧酸高效减水剂的减水效果和流动度保持性较好;萘系高效减水剂的作用几乎与水泥的品种及批次无关。混凝土的流变性能和力学性能与其砂浆的测试结果一致。

Here we present the case of a 79-year-old woman who complained of acute abdominal pain,vomiting and *** exams demonstrated a severe metabolic *** X-rays showed bowel overdistension and pneumatosis of the stomach *** tomography revealed infarction of the stomach,duodenum and small bowel due to thrombosis of the celiacomesenteric *** laparotomy revealed ischemia of the liver,spleen infarction and necrosis of the gastro-intestinal tube(from the stomach up to the first third of the transverse colon).No further surgical procedures were *** patient died the following *** our knowledge,this is the first reported case about severe gastro-intestinal ischemia due to thrombosis of the celiacomesenteric trunk,a rare anatomic variation of the gastrointestinal vascularisation.

Within the framework of the circular economy,the waste litchi’s skins were upgraded and transformed into electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).the waste litchi’s skins were pyrolyzed,activated,and then used as carbon support for fabricating metal–nitrogen–carbons(M–N–Cs)which belong to a promising class of platinum group metal-free *** activated char was functionalized with transition metal(Fe,Ni,and Co)-phthalocyanine(Pc)in monometallic and bimetallic fashion by subjecting it to a thermal treatment at 600 and 900◦*** samples functionalized at 900℃ showed higher performance for HER due to the formation of metal nanoparticles,whereas the samples functionalized at 600℃ showed higher performance for ***,sample Ni–Co 900 had an overpotential of−0.38 V for HER,while the sample Fe 600 was the most active electrocatalyst for ORR by demonstrating the onset potential of∼0.9 V(a half-wave potential of∼0.81 V)with the least production of unwanted peroxide anion.
