The NASA Kepler mission obtained long-term high-quality photometric observations for a large number of stars in its original field of view from 2009 to *** provide reliable stellar parameters in a homogeneous way,the LAMoST telescope began to carry out low-resolution spectroscopic observations for as many stars as possible in the Kepler field in *** June 2018,238386 low-resolution spectra with SNRg≥6 had been collected for 155623 stars in the Kepler field,enabling the determination of atmospheric parameters and radial velocities,as well as spectral classification of the target *** information has been used by astronomers to carry out research in various fields,including stellar pulsations and asteroseismology,exoplanets,stellar magnetic activity and flares,peculiar stars and the Milky Way,binary stars,*** summarize the research progress in these fields where the usage of data from the LAMoST-Kepler(LK)project has played a *** addition,time-domain medium-resolution spectroscopic observations have been carried out for about 12000 stars in four central plates of the Kepler field since *** currently available results show that the LAMoST-Kepler medium resolution(LKMRS)observations provide qualified data suitable for research in additional science projects including binaries,high-amplitude pulsating stars,*** LAMoST is continuing to collect both low-and mediumresolution spectra of stars in the Kepler field,we expect more data to be released continuously and new scientific results to appear based on the LK project data.

Air pollution has become an important issue,especially in Caribbean urban areas,and,particulate matter(PM)emitted by different natural and anthropogenic sources causes environmental and health *** this work,we studied the concentrations of PM_(10) and PM_(2.5) sources in an industrial and port urban area in the Caribbean region of *** samples were collected within 48-h periods between April and october 2018 by using a Partisol 2000 i-D *** geochemical characterization was performed by X-ray fluorescence(XRF)***,ionic species and black carbon(BC)were quantified by ion chromatography and reflectance spectroscopy,*** the Positive Matrix Factorization(PMF)receptor model,the contributions of PM sources were *** average concentration of PM_(10) was 46.6±16.2μg/m^(3),with high concentrations of Cl and *** PM_(2.5),the average concentration was 12.0±3.2μg/m^(3),and the most abundant components were BC,S,and *** receptor model identified five sources for PM_(10) and PM_(2.5).For both fractions,the contributions of marine sea spray,re-suspended soil,and vehicular traffic were *** addition,PM_(2.5) included two mixed sources were found to be fuel oil combustion with fertilizer industry emissions,and secondary aerosol sources with building construction ***,PM_(10) was found to also include building construction emissions with re-suspended soil,and metallurgical industry *** obtained geochemical atmospheric results are important for the implementation of strategies for the continuous improvement of the air quality of the Caribbean region.

Refractory Black Carbon Results and a Method Comparison between Solid-state Cutting and Continuous Melting Sampling of a West Antarctic Snow and Firn Core

This work presents the refractory black carbon(rBC)results of a snow and firn core drilled in West Antarctica(79°55'34.6"S,94°21'13.3"W)during the 2014?15 austral summer,collected by Brazilian researchers as part of the First Brazilian West Antarctic Ice Sheet *** core was drilled to a depth of 20 m,and we present the results of the first 8 m by comparing two subsampling methods—solid-state cutting and continuous melting—both with discrete *** core was analyzed at the Department of Geological Sciences,Central Washington University(CWU),WA,USA,using a single particle soot photometer(SP2)coupled to a CETAC Marin-5 *** continuous melting system was recently assembled at CWU and these are its first *** also present experimental results regarding SP2 reproducibility,indicating that sample concentration has a greater influence than the analysis time on the reproducibility for low rBC concentrations,like those found in the Antarctic *** was carried out using mainly the rBC variation and sulfur,sodium and strontium as secondary parameters,giving the core 17 years(1998?2014).The data show a well-defined seasonality of rBC concentrations for these first meters,with geometric mean summer/fall concentrations of 0.016μg L^?1 and geometric mean winter/spring concentrations of 0.063μg L^?*** annual rBC concentration geometric mean was 0.029μg L^?1(the lowest of all rBC cores in Antarctica referenced in this work),while the annual rBC flux was 6.1μg m^?2 yr^?1(the lowest flux in West Antarctica records so far).

Prophylactic transcatheter arterial embolization reduces rebleeding in non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding: A meta-analysis

BACKGRoUND Despite the improvement in the endoscopic hemostasis of non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding(NVUGIB),rebleeding remains a major *** To assess the role of prophylactic transcatheter arterial embolization(PTAE)added to successful hemostatic treatment among NVUGIB *** We searched three databases from inception through october 19th,*** controlled trials(RCTs)and observational cohort studies were *** compared patients with NVUGIB receiving PTAE to those who did not get *** outcomes were rebleeding,mortality,reintervention,need for surgery and transfusion,length of hospital(LoH),and intensive care unit(ICU)*** the quantitative synthesis,odds ratios(oRs)and weighted mean differences(WMDs)were calculated with the random-effects model and interpreted with 95%confidence intervals(CIs).RESULTS We included a total of 3 RCTs and 9 observational studies with a total of 1329 patients,with 486 in the intervention *** was associated with lower odds of rebleeding(oR=0.48,95%CI:0.29–0.78).There was no difference in the 30-d mortality rates(oR=0.82,95%CI:0.39–1.72)between the PTAE and control *** who underwent PTAE treatment had a lower chance for reintervention(oR=0.48,95%CI:0.31–0.76)or rescue surgery(oR=0.35,95%CI:0.14–0.92).The LoH and ICU stay was shorter in the PTAE group,but the difference was non-significant[WMD=-3.77,95%CI:(-8.00)–0.45;WMD=-1.33,95%CI:(-2.84)–0.18,respectively].CoNCLUSIoN PTAE is associated with lower odds of rebleeding and any reintervention in ***,further RCTs are needed to have a higher level of evidence.

The use of flours or phenolic extracts obtained from non-traditional sources or agri-food industry by-products has been a strategy used to formulate new bakery products with characteristics of a functional ***,phenolic compounds present great structural diversity,as well as the ability to interact in a complex way with the macromolecules that constitute the bread ***,the addition of these flours,extracts or pure compounds produces various effects on the microstructure of bread,and several of its sensory *** is mainly due to interactions between phenolic compounds and gluten *** objective of this review is to analyze some of the most recent published works on the addition of phenolic compounds in wheat bread to identify the type of positive and negative effects that have been observed and how they can be related to the physicochemical interactions between phenolic compounds and the macromolecules that constitute the food matrix,mainly *** effect of monomeric and polymeric phenolic compounds on the strength of these interactions and on the properties of dough and bread are discussed.

Physicochemical Characteristics of Water Samples Collected from River Sokoto, Northwestern Nigeria

Physicochemical parameters of surface water collected from six different points (P1 to P6) on River Sokoto were analysed during January (Dry Season) and August (Rainy Season), 2014 to determine its water quality using standard methods. The highest temperature of 25.6°C was recorded by P1 in dry season while P5 recorded the highest value of 29.2°C in rainy season. All the water samples were alkaline in dry season with the highest pH value of 8.50 in P5 and the least value of 8.02 in P6 whereas in rainy season, P1, P2 and P3 were slightly acidic while P5 and P6 were slightly neutral and P4 alkaline. The highest values of 510 μS/cm and 850.3 mg/l were recorded from P4 for electrical conductance and hardness respectively in the rainy season whereas in dry season, P5 and P4 had the highest values of 321 μS/cm and 282.8 mg/l respectively. The highest Do and BoD levels in dry season were 1.7 mg/l and 0.7 mg/l respectively in P1 and the least values were 0.7 mg/l and 0.2 mg/l respectively in P5. But in the rainy season, P6 recorded the highest Do value of 0.1 mg/l while P2 and P5 recorded the least value of 0.07 mg/l. For BoD, P5 had the highest value (2.13 mg/l) while P3 had the least value (0.20 mg/l). For CoD, the highest value (230 mg/l) was found in P4 and P6 and the least value (30 mg/l) was found in P1 in dry season while in the rainy season, P2 had the highest CoD value (1008 mg/l) and P4 had the least value of 32 mg/l. TDS and TSS values generally were higher in the rainy season than in the dry season due to higher amount of floating particles in the rainy season. While P1 and P6 recorded the highest values (800 mg/l and 700 mg/l respectively) in the rainy season, P4 recorded the least value of 100 mg/l in both seasons. The highest Chloride level was found in P4 in the dry (100 mg/l) and rainy (180 mg/l) seasons with the least level in P2 (35 mg/l) in dry season and in P1 and P2 with the least level of 60 mg/l in the rainy season. Treatment of chronic hepatitis C with direct-acting antivirals: The role of resistance

The use of direct-acting antivirals(DAAs) to treat chronic hepatitis C has resulted in a significant increase in rates of sustained viral response(around 90%-95%) as compared with the standard treatment of peginterferon/ribavirin. Despite this, however, the rates of therapeutic failure in daily clinical practice range from 10%-15%. Most of these cases are due to the presence of resistant viral variants, resulting from mutations produced by substitutions of amino acids in the viral target protein that reduce viral sensitivity to DAAs, thus limiting the efficacy of these drugs. The high genetic diversity of hepatitis C virus has resulted in the existence of resistance-associated variants(RAVs), sometimes even before starting treatment with DAAs, though generally at low levels. These preexisting RAVs do not appear to impact on the sustained viral response, whereas those that appear after DAA therapy could well be determinant in virological failure with future treatments. As well as the presence of RAVs, virological failure to treatment with DAAs is generally associated with other factors related with a poor response, such as the degree of fibrosis, the response to previous therapy, the viral load or the viral genotype. Nonetheless, viral breakthrough and relapse can still occur in the absence of detectable RAVs and after the use of highly effective DAAs, so that the true clinical impact of the presence of RAVs in therapeutic failure remains to be determined.

Anticancer effect of linalool via cancer-specific hydroxyl radical generation in human colon cancer

AIM To investigate the anticancer mechanisms of the monoterpenoid alcohol linalool in human colon cancer *** The cytotoxic effect of linalool on the human colon cancer cell lines and a human fibroblast cell line was examined using the WST-8 assay. The apoptosisinducing effect of linalool was measured using the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase d UTP nickend labeling assay and flow cytometry with Annexin V. oxidative stress was investigated by staining for diphenyl-1-pyrenylphosphine, which is a cellular lipid peroxidation marker, and electron spin resonance spectroscopy. Sixteen SCID mice xenografted with human cancer cells were randomized into 3 groups for in vivo analysis: control and low-dose and high-dose linalool groups. The control group was administered tap water orally every 3 d. The linalool treatment groups were administered 100 or 200 μg/kg linalool solution orally for the same period. All mice were sacrificed under anesthesia 21 d after tumor inoculation, and tumors and organs were collected for immunohistochemistry using an anti-4-hydroxynonenal antibody. Tumor weights were measured and compared between groups. RESULTS Linalool induced apoptosis of cancer cells in vitro, following the cancer-specific induction of oxidative stress, which was measured based on spontaneous hydroxyl radical production and delayed lipid peroxidation. Mice in the high-dose linalool group exhibited a 55% reduction in mean xenograft tumor weight compared with mice in the control group(P on, tumor-specific lipid peroxidation was observed in the in vivo *** Linalool exhibited an anticancer effect via cancerspecific oxidative stress, and this agent has potential for application in colon cancer therapy.
