Outcome of buttress plate-nail construct used for reconstruction of broken lateral wall in intertrochanteric fractures

Purpose:Intramedullary implants are well accepted fixation of all types of intertrochanteric(IT)frac-tures,both stable and unstable *** nails have an ability to effectively support the posteromedial part,but fail to buttress the broken lateral wall requiring lateral *** aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome of proximal femoral nail augmented with trochanteric buttress plate for broken lateral wall with IT fractures,which was fixed to the femur through hip screw and anti-rotation screw ***:Of 30 patients,20 had Jensen-Evan typeⅢand 10 had type V *** with IT fracture of broken lateral wall and aged more than 18 years,in whom satisfactory reduction was achieved by closed methods,were included in the *** with pathologic or open fractures,polytrauma,prior hip surgery,non-ambulatory prior to surgery,and those who refused to participate were *** operative time,blood loss,radiation exposure,quality of reduction,functional outcome,and union time were *** data were coded and recorded in Microsoft Excel spread sheet *** 20.0 was used for data analysis and normality of the continuous data was checked using Kolmogorv Smirnov ***:The mean age of patients in the study was 60.3 *** mean duration of surgery(min),mean intra-operative blood loss(mL)and mean number of exposures were 91.86±12.8(range 70-122),144.8±3.6(range 116-208),and 56.6(range 38-112),*** mean union time was 11.6 weeks and the mean Harris hip score was ***:Lateral trochanteric wall in IT fractures is significantly important,and needs to be recon-structed ***-plate construct of trochanteric buttress plate fixed with hip screw and anti-rotation screw of proximal femoral nail can be successfully used to augment,fix or buttress the lateral trochanteric wall giving excellent to good results of early union and reduction.

Exploration of alternative energy storage systems has been more than necessary in view of the supply risks haunting lithium-ion *** various alternative electrochemical energy storage devices,sodium-ion battery outstands with advantages of cost-effectiveness and comparable energy density with lithium-ion *** to the similar electrochemical mechanism,the research and development of lithium-ion batteries have forged a solid foundation for sodium-ion battery *** in sodium-ion batteries have been witnessed in terms of superior electrochemical performance and broader application ***,the strategies adopted to optimize the battery components(cathode,anode,electrolyte,separator,binder,current collector,etc.)and the cost,safety,and commercialization issues in sodium-ion batteries are summarized and *** on these optimization strategies,assembly of functional(flexible,stretchable,self-healable,and self-chargeable)and integrated sodium-ion batteries(−actuators,−sensors,electrochromic,etc.)have been *** these achievements,challenges including energy density,scalability,trade-off between energy density and functionality,cost,*** to be addressed for sodium-ion battery *** review aims at providing an overview of the up-to-date achievements in sodium-ion batteries and serves to inspire more efforts in designing upgraded sodium-ion batteries.

The infrahyoid myocutaneous flap for reconstruction after oral cancer resection: A retrospective single-surgeon study

Objective:To review our experience with infrahyoid myocutaneous flap in reconstruction after oral cancer ***:Chart reviews were completed for all patients who underwent oral reconstruction with an infrahyoid myocutaneous flap by a single surgeon in the Department of Otolaryngology at Chonburi Cancer Hospital from 2011 to *** of the patients and postoperative complications were ***:Of the 34 patients in the study,10(29.4%)developed partial flap loss and 1(2.9%)developed total flap *** cases of partial flap loss resolved with conservative *** cancer involvement of a cervical lymph node was significantly associated with flap failure(odds ratio:5.0,95%CI:1.03e24.28).Conclusions:The infrahyoid myocutaneous flap is a fairly reliable reconstruction *** flap should be performed with caution in cases with gross lymph node involvement.
