Identification of Differentially Senescing Mutants of Wheat and Impacts on Yield,Biomass and Nitrogen partitioning

Increasing photosynthetic capacity by extending canopy longevity during grain filling using slow senescing stay-green genotypes is a possible means to improve yield in wheat. Ethyl methanesulfonate （EMS） mutated wheat lines （Triticum aestivum L. cv. paragon） were screened for fast and slow canopy senescence to investigate the impact on yield and nitrogen partitioning. Stay-green and fast-senescing lines with similar anthesis dates were characterised in detail. Delayed senescence was only apparent at higher nitrogen supply with low nitrogen supply enhancing the rate of senescence in all lines. In the stay-green line 3 （SG3）, on a whole plant basis, tiller and seed number increased whilst thousand grain weight （TGW） decreased; although a greater N uptake was observed in the main tiller, yield was not affected. In fast-senescing line 2 （FS2）, yield decreased, principally as a result of decreased TGW. Analysis of N-partitioning in the main stem indicated that although the slow-senescing line had lower biomass and consequently less nitrogen in all plant parts, the proportion of biomass and nitrogen in the flag leaf was greater at anthesis compared to the other lines; this contributed to the grain N and yield of the slow-senescing line at maturity in both the main tiller and in the whole plant. A field trial confirmed senescence patterns of the two lines, and the negative impact on yield for FS2 and a positive impact for SG3 at low N only. The lack of increased yield in the slow-senescing line was likely due to decreased biomass and additionally a possible sink limitation.

Availability and quality of procedural sedation and analgesia in emergency departments without emergency physicians: A national survey in the Netherlands

BACKGROUND: Emergency physicians have been successful in implementing procedural sedation and analgesia(pSA) to treat emergency department(ED) patients who need to undergo painful ***, 25% of the EDs in the Netherlands are not staffed by emergency *** aim of this study was to investigate pSA availability and quality in EDs without emergency ***: We performed an exploratory cross-sectional study amongst ED nurses and physicians in all 13 EDs without emergency physicians in the *** were gathered using a standardized ***: The response rate was 34.3%(148/432).Of the respondents, 84/148(56.8%) provided adult pSA and 30/148(20.3%) provided paediatric *** reasons for not providing pSA were insufficient numbers of trained staff to support pSA in the ED and insufficient training and *** providers agreed significantly stronger when reflecting their pSA competencies in adults compared to paediatric ***: The key to improve pain management in the ED-setting may lay in investing in continuous training of ED health care professionals and/or acquiring professionals who are both qualified in pSA and available in the ED.

Blastocyst elective single embryo transfer improves perinatal outcomes among women undergoing assisted reproductive technology in Indonesia

Objective:To compare the effectiveness of blastocyst elective single embryo transfer(eSET)and double embryo transfer(DET)in reducing low birth weight,preterm birth,and perinatal mortality in in vitro fertilization(IVF)cycles of Indonesian ***:A retrospective observational study was conducted at Morula IVF Clinic,Jakarta,Indonesia.A total of 179 women who underwent either eSET or DET and had met the eligibility criteria were ***-six women underwent eSET while 103 underwent DET in their IVF *** birth-weight rate,preterm birth rate,and perinatal mortality rate of both groups were measured as the primary study *** intensive care unit(NICU)admission rate,Apgar score,multiple pregnancy,and maternal complications during pregnancy were also ***:The risk of low birth weight[odds ratio(OR)=0.21,95%confidential interval(CI):0.10-0.45,ppreterm birth(OR=0.25,95%CI:0.13-0.49,pp compared with the DET ***,eSET efficiently reduced the incidence of NICU admission and multiple pregnancy(p=0.01 and ppectively).No significant difference was observed in terms of perinatal mortality rate,Apgar score,and maternal complications including gestational diabetes,preeclampsia as well as pregnancy-induced hypertension(p≥0.05).However,a lower incidence of antepartum hemorrhage was noticed in the eSET group than in the DET group(p=0.03).Conclusions:Compared with DET,infants conceived through IVF cycles with eSET have a significantly lower risk of low birth weight,preterm birth,and NICU ***,eSET is shown to reduce multiple pregnancy rate,yet no significant differences are observed in the perinatal mortality rates,Apgar score and maternal complications(except for the incidence of antepartum hemorrhage)between both groups.

The influence of essential oils(EOs)on emotions has been widely described among humans and *** studies have investigated the effects and the actions of EOs on behaviour,mood and *** this study,shelter dogs(n=23)were exposed to olfactory stimulation through diffusion of 9 anxiolytic essential oils in one blend(olfactory enrichment)for 8 weeks in order to check long-term effects on ***,dog’s postures have been evaluated in both groups before and after ***,in order to collect the preliminary results on the distance necessary to obtain an effect of EOs,dogs were divided in 2 groups according to the distance from the *** results indicate that olfactory enrichment with this blend of EOs is related to less time spent by dogs in high *** research is needed to investigate a potential gradual effect of distance and concentration of EOs on dog’s welfare.
