Trypano.o.o.is remains a majo. challenge to.livesto.k pro.uctio. in much o. tro.ical Sub-Saharan Africa, while diagno.is and treatment still depend o. inefficient parasito.o.ical techniques. Endemic infectio.s depend o. animal reservo.rs with subclinical parasitemia. We repo.t mo.ecular diagno.is o. subclinical Trypano.o.a vivax (T. vivax) infectio. using po.ymerase chain reactio. (PCR) fo. the first time in Nigerian go.ts and asso.iate parasite presence with gro.s physio.o.ical traits and serum metabo.ites in extensively managed Nigerian go.ts. PCR was used to.amplify a 400 bp DNA fragment o. the parasite geno.e in 205 go.ts acro.s three geo.raphical zo.es o. the co.ntry. Results sho.ed a high subclinical infectio. rate (SCIR) o. 71.7% in the to.al go.ts examined. o.erall SCIRs o. 71%, 75.9% and 55.6% were reco.ded in West African Dwarf, Red So.o.o.and Sahel go.ts respectively, while geo.raphical SCIRs were 71.2% (So.thwest), 75% (No.thwest) and 70% (No.theast). T. vivax presence had significant (P 0.05) effect o. respirato.y rate and is asso.iated with higher creatinine levels in sera. Lo.istic regressio. analyses with Ho.mer-Lemesho. go.dness-o.-fit sho.ed that respirato.y rate is the mo.t impo.tant predictive trait fo. the presence o. T. vivax infectio. (P 0.05). Go.ts appear to.be a viable reservo.r fo. T. vivax infectio. o. o.her livesto.k. Mo.ecular diagno.is o. subclinical trypano.o.o.is using PCR co.ld be useful fo. large scale epidemio.o.ical studies, early diagno.is o. subclinical infectio. and treatment o. the disease in extensively managed tro.ical go.ts.

(e.g. municipal sewage treatment plant and industrial plant, intense evapo.atio. in shallo. aquifers, degradatio. o. water so.rces in areas lo.ated in geo.hermal/vo.canic fields, and ro.k o.idatio.) is a single identify lo.alized so.rce while no.-po.nt so.rce po.lutio. (diffuse so.rces such as human land use, land use changes, chemical reactio.s o. elements in the air o. in the water and po.lutes runo.f fro. agricultural areas draining into.a river) is characterized by multiple discharge po.nt. In this study, high chro.ium white iro. (HC-Wi) allo. and the Hadfield steel were studied. The micro.tructure o. this high-chro.ium iro. was studied using Metallurgical o.tical micro.co.y (o.) and co.pared to.the Hadfield steel. The hardness and unno.ched charpy impact strength o. the HC-Wi allo. and Hadfield steel were examined at ambient temperature in the as-cast and heat-treated co.ditio.s. A pin-o.-disc test at linear speed o. 1.18 m/s and a 10 N no.mal lo.d was emplo.ed to.evaluate the wear behavio. o. bo.h steel samples. Micro.tructural results sho.ed that varying the carbo. level in HC-Wi allo.s can affect the chro.ium carbide mo.pho.o.y and its distributio. in the austenite matrix which leads to.co.siderable changes o. the mechanical pro.erties. Abrasio. test sho.ed that HC-Wi allo.s have superio. wear resistance, abo.t three times o. the Hadfield steel.

The mo.pho.o.y and mechanical pro.erties o. co.o.ut shell reinfo.ced po.yethylene co.po.ite have been evaluated to.establish the po.sibility o. using it as a new material fo. engineering applicatio.s. Co.o.ut shell reinfo.ced co.po.ite was prepared by co.pacting lo. density po.yethylene matrix with 5% - 25% vo.ume fractio. co.o.ut shell particles and the effect o. the particles o. the mechanical pro.erties o. the co.po.ite pro.uced was investigated. The result sho.s that the hardness o. the co.po.ite increases with increase in co.o.ut shell co.tent tho.gh the tensile strength, mo.ulus o. elasticity, impact energy and ductility o. the co.po.ite decreases with increase in the particle co.tent. Scanning Electro. Micro.co.y (SEM) o. the co.po.ites (with 0% - 25% particles) surfaces indicates po.r interfacial interactio. between the co.o.ut shell particle and the lo. density po.yethylene matrix. The Jo.iny end quench machine was designed, manufactured and tested. The manganese steel was develo.ed. The as-cast manganese steels were quenched in water at different austenising temperatures and hardenability test was carried o.t o. the samples cut at different distances fro. the quenched surface with the use o. the manufactured Jo.iny end quench machine. The o.tical micro.co.e was used to.investigate the micro.tructure o. the cut samples. Results revealed that the Jo.iny end quench machine wo.ked effectively with sho.t cycle time and impro.ed water management system. The extremely rapid co.ling prevents the deco.po.itio. o. the chro.ium carbides. Ho.ever, the hardness values o. the samples decreased with increase in the distance fro. the quenched surface and the size o. the chro.ium carbides increased with austentic temperatures which is respo.sible fo. reductio. in the hardness values o. the quenched samples at higher austentinic temperature. The manufactured Jo.iny end quench machine has advantages o. impro.ed water management system and sho.t pro.essing time o.er the existing o.es.

This paper investigates the wear characteristic o. grey cast iro. co.po.itio. under dry lubricatio. co.ditio.s. Micro.tructure and o.idatio. resistance o. carbo.s derived fro. plain and mo.ified resins have been co.pared. Chemical structure o. the resins was studied using Fo.rier Transfo.m InfraRed-Attenuated To.al Reflectio.(FTIR-ATR) spectro.co.y. X-ray Pho.o.lectro. spectro.co.y was used to.examine chemical changes during heat treatment o. the mo.ified pro.ucts. This study examined the sanitary surveys and hydro.hemistry o. gro.ndwater in Ado.Ekiti and Ijero.Ekiti to.establish the co.taminants’ so.rces, decipher the effects o. urbanizatio. o. po.ulatio. and explain any relatio.ship between the surveys and the gro.ndwater chemistry. Sanitary surveys o. 30 rando.ly selected wells each fro. Ado.Ekiti and Ijero.Ekiti were executed by administering and pro.essing appro.riately designed questio.naires that addressed salient pro.lems o. hygiene and sanitatio.. The results o. the surveys were gro.ped into.very high risk, high risk, intermediate risk, and lo. risk classes. Subsequently, at each lo.atio., in situ parameters (temperature (°C), pH and EC (μS/cm)) were measured using a po.table Multi-parameter TestrTM 35 Series S/N: 1382654. At each well, water samples were co.lected into.clean po.yethylene bo.tles in triplicates fo. catio., anio.s and e-co.i evaluatio.s, respectively. Water samples fo. catio.s were acidified by adding two.dro.s o. co.centrated nitric acid. All samples were kept in a refrigerato. at a lo. temperature o. abo.t 4°C befo.e being taken to.the Federal University o. Techno.o.y, Akure, fo. analyses. Io. chro.ato.raphy was emplo.ed fo. the anio.s analysis while the catio.s were determined using an Ato.ic Abso.ptio. Spectro.ho.o.eter Buck 210 mo.el.
