Background:Increasing number of people globally gives in to indiscriminate consumption of excess alcohol as a coping mechanism to relieve any form of physical or psychological ***,ethnomedicinal use of Zingiber officinale Roscoe(Ginger)have been shown to exhibit broad range of pharmacological benefits but no data has reported the phytotherapeutic treatment of Zingiber officinale methanol extract(MEZO)on alcohol-use disorder(AUD)and post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD)-induced oxidative and inflammatory stress relevant to disruption of kidney functions in animal ***:To investigate the protective effect of MEZO on kidney-oxidative and inflammatory biomarkers in sub-chronic alcohol exacerbation of PTSD symptoms in ***:Male Swiss mice were administered 30%ethanol for two weeks and thereafter introduced to single pro-longed stress to induce AUD and PTSD respectively prior to post-treatment with MEZO and vitamin *** of oxidative stress,inflammatory cytokines,kidney functions,HPA-axis signaling molecules,vasodilator substance,and histopathology of the kidney were ***:Sub-chronic alcohol intoxication heightened PTSD-induced oxido-inflammatory stress,altered the kidney function indices and HPA-axis,and reduced nitric oxide production,which were ameliorated by the phytother-apeutic treatment with ***,severe degeneration and atrophy of renal tubules were ***,MEZO interventions strongly abated all these ***:Herein,the study shows that phytotherapeutic treatment with MEZO prevents the damaging effects of co-exposure to sub-chronic alcohol intoxication and PTSD.

Care and Support Programmes for Orphans and Vulnerable Children: Achievements and Implications of HIV/AIDS Funded Project in Osun State, Nigeria

Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and their families face many challenges but there are opportunities to provide care and support programmes for them in their communities. This paper presents the achievements and implications of HIV Programme Development Project (HPDP) funded by World Bank on care and support services for OVC in Osun State, Nigeria. Eight Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) were engaged by Osun State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OSACA) as part of HPDP to provide care and support services for OVC between year 2013 and 2015. Using reporting tools, data collected by the CSOs were entered into District Health Information System 2 (DHIS2) platform and analysed using Microsoft Excel. In addition, Key Informant Interviews (KII) were conducted among the selected CSOs, OVC and the caregivers who were beneficiaries of HPDP in Osun State, Nigeria. A total of 12,353 OVC were reached and about half of them were female. There was an increase in the trends of number of OVC seen and the support services provided from the year 2013 to 2015. Of the 12,353 OVC that benefitted from this programme, 1905 (15.4%) received health care services, 5383 (43.6%) received nutritional services, 5317 (43.0%) received educational services and 9861 (79.8%) were provided with psychosocial support services. About 503 (4.1%) of the OVC received economic strengthening services while 270 (2.2%) of household heads were provided with economic support. However, 3 OVC were lost to follow-up, 14 OVC voluntarily withdrew from the project and 6 OVC died. The FGD and KII revealed that the project was very impactful in transforming the lives of the OVC. Programmes for children orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS will contribute to the achievement of HIV/ AIDS prevention and control efforts. The HIV/AIDS free generation can be built by responding to the physical, social and mental needs of these children and their families in their communities. There is a need to scale-up this programme

Background:Cyclosporine-A(Cs-A),an immunosuppressant drug indicated for organ transplant patients has been associated with toxicities arising from activation of pathological *** Ginkgo biloba supplement(GBS)is an antioxidant-enhancing herbal product widely used for treating neurological and vascular ***:This study investigated the ameliorative effect of GBS on cyclosporine-A induced cardiotoxicity in Wistar ***:The study included 20 Wistar rats(n=5)and they were treated as follows:group 1 received distilled water(10 mL/kg),group 2 received Cs-A(25 mg/kg),group 3 received GBS(50 mg/kg)and group 4 received Cs-A(25 mg/kg)and GBS(50 mg/kg).All treatment were done intraperitoneal for 14 days and thereafter,animals were euthanised and heart tissues were harvested for biochemical assays as well as immunohistochemical *** was also collected for serum biochemical ***:Our results revealed that GBS reduces Cs-A induced increase of AST,ALT,ALP,LDH,and GGT levels in serum relative to Cs-A ***,increased oxido-nitrergic markers like MDA,NO,together with elevated concentrations of cholesterol,triglycerides,LDL,creatine kinase-MB,troponin-I,as well as pro-inflammatory cytokines(IL-6,and TNF-α)and heart weight index were reduced by *** Cs-A induced suppression of low-density lipoprotein,antioxidant(GSH,SOD,CAT),Na-K ATPase activities and antiapoptotic element,Bcl-2 were increased by ***,signalling pathways including ERK1/2,and mTOR as well as ventricular thickness were significantly alleviated by GBS ***:The findings suggest that GBS ameliorated Cs-A-induced cardiotoxicity by activating mTOR/ERK1/2 signalling pathways.

This study investigated bacteria that are associated with milt in cultured samples of African catfish-Clarias *** broodstocks of Clarias gariepinus were collected from private Fish Farm in Ogun State,Nigeria,while the fish’s milt was collected and analyzed for microbial load at laboratory of the Department of Microbiology,Federal University of Agriculture,Abeokuta,Ogun *** molecular characterization of the amplicon was done at International Institute of Tropical Agriculture,***-edit was used for importing and mining nucleotide sequences into gene *** revealed by the results,bacterial organisms that were present in the milt of Clarias gariepinus are Aeromonas caviae,Proteus mirabilis,Serratia rubidaea,Pseudomonas mosselii,Acinetobacter soli and Klebsiella *** Basic Local Alignment Search Tools revealed the percentage similarity ranging from 86%-97.04%and their accession *** bacteria indicated high levels of faecal contamination in the *** conclusion,bacteria were found in the milt of cultured catfish and are capable of being pathogenic to humans and may increase the vertical transfer to fry during breeding and rearing ***,fish farmers should maintain a hygiene and serene environment during breeding and culturing of catfish.

Introduction: Pain control during Manual Vacuum Aspiration is one of the most important aspects of postabortion care. This study assessed the analgesic efficacy, requirement for additional analgesia, and overall satisfaction using Paracervical blocks of 1% lignocaine compare with normal saline as placebo among women undergoing manual vacuum aspiration for incomplete abortion in OAUTHC, Ile-Ife. Methods: This was a double blind randomized controlled trial that occurred between January 2019 and February 2020. We randomized one hundred and twenty eligible women equally into 2 groups. Group A received paracervical block using 1% lignocaine while those in group B received paracervical block using normal saline as placebo. We obtained ethical clearance from the Ethics and Research Committee of the hospital. Preoperatively, we obtained relevant data and evaluated the degree of anxiety and pain on a visual analog scale (VAS). Intraoperative pain was evaluated from 2 viewpoints: that of the external observer on a 0 - 4 scale and that of the patient scale of 0 - 10 in the immediate postoperative period, followed by overall satisfaction at the point of discharge. 近60年来南黄海沉积物高分辨率敏感粒级对东亚冬季风的响应

对南黄海中部泥质区F306柱状样的沉积物进行分析,运用粒径—标准偏差法,得出该孔敏感粒级组分为23.10~65.30μm（5.44Φ~3.94Φ）,其粒级的含量15.6%~22.3%,平均粒径38.5~41.4μm（4.70Φ~4.59Φ）,证明敏感粒级可以作为东亚冬季风的高分辨率替代指标,进一步阐明了敏感粒级作为东亚冬季风替代指标在更高分辨率上的可行性。根据敏感粒级沉积记录,在1950—1986年期间,将东亚冬季风分为强—弱—强3个阶段,指示了该阶段东亚冬季风存在近10年的周期。1986/1987为近60多年来东亚冬季风由强变弱的转折点,与东亚气候变化具有较好的对应关系,首次在中国东部海域中记录了此逆转事件,认为1986年后沉积物敏感粒级的变粗可能与长江物源变粗、东亚冬季风的减弱以及夏季风增强有关。

水稻直立穗型作为继矮化和理想株型后水稻株型适应高产要求的又一重要形态变化,直立穗型的主要生理生态特点为群体结构合理,光照分布均匀,冠层内光照强度、湿度、温度及CO等生态条件优越,同时降低了反射辐射,促进了气体交换,水稻生长中后期群体生长率较高,从而具有较高的生物产量。由DEP1基因调控的直立穗型基因(EP基因)被广泛应用到中国粳稻的高产育种中,然而目前EP基因在群体水平上对育种应用价值的研究却很少,本研究的目的为确定EP基因型与不同生态地点、不同年份的环境对水稻产量及产量构成要素的相互作用,通过构建两套以秋田小町及辽粳5号为遗传背景,基因型为EP及NEP的近等基因系,并在2016和2017及2018年种植在沈阳(中国)及京都(日本)两地。秋田小町背景下EP及NEP的平均产量分别为6.67吨/公顷及6.13吨/公顷,辽粳5背景下EP及NEP的平均产量分别为6.66吨/公顷及6.58吨/公顷。EP基因的作用可以增加穗数及每平方米穗粒数从而增加收获指数,但EP基因降低了千粒重。EP基因型与NEP基因型在产量的比值及在生物产量上的比值与抽穗前15天到抽穗后25天间40天均日辐射呈显著正相关,说明EP基因型的有效性取决于太阳辐射的有效性。本实验研究表明,EP基因型始终对水稻物质形成有积极作用,但却需要在高的太阳辐射下对与水稻源产生积极影响,由于EP基因型在两种遗传背景间的对物候学响应的差异,使得仅在秋田小町背景下EP基因型的效用具有较高的产量潜力,EP基因型在两个遗传背景下对穗数及每平方米穗粒数的作用都呈现出一致的促进作用,进而EP基因型表现出对水稻经济系数的积极影响。

本文综述分析文献报道的文冠木及蒙药复方古日古木-7(G-7)主要成分的药代动力学性质等数据,探讨水煎剂和散剂(或甲醇提取物)可吸收成分的差异及原理。G-7含红花、石膏、麻黄、紫花地丁、诃子、蓝盆花、木通。其中诃子含有大量多酚成分,有抗丙肝病毒蛋白酶等活性。给药G-7后诃子主要成分的血药浓度-时间曲线下面积(AUC0~10 h)比单独给药诃子时明显增加。没食子酸、诃子裂酸、诃黎勒酸的AUC0~10 h分别增加了2.6、10.3、3.0倍,说明G-7中其他药材可增加诃子主要活性成分的吸收。给大鼠灌胃G-7甲醇提取物后,极性较小的鞣花酸的AUC0~10 h>没食子酸,而灌胃水煎剂时极性大的没食子酸的AUC0~10 h>鞣花酸。文冠木不能被溶剂提取出的大分子鞣质可被胃液降解成其组成单元——表儿茶素;灌胃文冠木全粉时表儿茶素的AUC0~10 h和最大血药浓度(Cmax)明显增加,分别达到灌胃其提取物时的1.1和1.2倍。甲醇提取物(或中药全粉的散剂)给药后,亲脂性及不可提取成分的体内吸收较多,因此,民族药散剂的体内药效物质与水煎剂有所不同,这可能是有些药材在民族医药与中医药中用途不同的科学原理;这些结果也提示,民族药散剂的主要质量控制指标成分也会与汤剂有所不同。
