Acoustic beam splitting in a sonic crystal around a directional band gap

Beam splitting upon refraction in a triangular sonic crystal composed of aluminum cylinders in air is experimentally and numerically demonstrated to occur due to finite source size, which facilitates circumvention of a directional band gap. Experiments reveal that two distinct beams emerge at crystal output, in agreement with the numerical results obtained through the finite-element method. Beam splitting occurs at sufficiently-small source sizes comparable to lattice periodicity determined by the spatial gap width in reciprocal space. Split beams propagate in equal amplitude, whereas beam splitting is destructed for oblique incidence above a critical incidence angle.

In this paper, the electrical parameters of Au/n-Si （MS） and Au/Si3N4/n-Si （MIS） Schottky diodes are obtained from the forward bias current-voltage （I-V） and capacitance-voltage （C-V） measurements at room temperature. Experimental results show that the rectifying ratios of the MS and MIS diodes at ± 5 V are found to be 1.25 ×103 and 1.27 ×104, respectively. The main electrical parameters of the MS and MIS diodes, such as the zero-bias barrier height （rbBo） and ideality factor （n）, are calculated to be 0.51 eV （I-V）, 0.53 eV （C-V）, and 4.43, and 0.65 eV （I-V）, 0.70 eV （C-V）, and 3.44, respectively. In addition, the energy density distribution profile of the interface states （Nss） is obtained from the forward bias I-V, and the series resistance （Rs） values for the two diodes are calculated from Cheung＇s method and Ohm＇s law.

In this paper, neutronic analysis in a laser fusion inertial confinement fusion fission energy （LIFE） engine fuelled plutonium and minor actinides using a MCNP codes was investigated. LIFE engine fuel zone contained 10 vol% TRISO particles and 90 vol% natural lithium coolant mixture. TRISO fuel compositions have Mod①： reactor grade plutonium （RG-Pu）, Mod②： weapon grade plutonium （WG-Pu） and Mod③： minor actinides （MAs）. Tritium breeding ratios （TBR） were computed as 1.52, 1.62 and 1.46 for Mod（D, Mod② and Mod③, respectively. The operation period was computed as ~21 years when the reference TBR 〉 1.05 for a self- sustained reactor for all investigated cases. Blanket energy multiplication values （M） were calculated as 4.18, 4.95 and 3.75 for Mod①, Mod② and Mod③, respectively. The bumup （BU） values were obtained as ~1230, ~1550 and ~1060 GWd tM-1, respectively. As a result, the higher BU were provided with using TRISO particles for all cases in LIFE engine.

Effect of ZrSiO_4 on the Friction Performance of Automotive Brake Friction Materials

Friction-wear properties of the ZrSiO4 reinforced samples were measured and compared with those of plain bronze based ones. For this purpose, density, hardness, friction coefficient wear behaviour of the samples were tested. Microstructures of samples before and after sintering and worn surfaces were also investigated by scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, and the wear types were determined. The optimum friction-wear behaviour was obtained in the sample compacted at 500 MPa and sintered at 820℃. Density of the final samples decreased with increasing the amount of reinforcing elements （ZrSiO4） before pre-sintering. However after sintering, there is no change in density of the samples including reinforcing elements （ZrSiO4）. With increasing friction surface temperature, a reduction in the friction coefficient of the samples was observed. However, the highest reductions in the friction coefficients were observed in the as-received samples containing 0. 5% reinforced ZrSiO4. The SEM images of the sample indicated that while bronze-based break lining material without ZrSiO4 showed abrasive wear behaviour, increasing the amount of ZrSiO4 resulted a change in abrasive to adhesive wear mechanism. All samples exhibited friction-wear values, which were within the values shown in SAE-J661 standard. With increasing the amount of reinforcing ZrSiO4, wear resistance of the samples was increased. However samples reinforced with 5% and 6% ZrSiO4 showed the best results.

Effect of Different Amounts of Graphite on the Sintering and Transverse Rupture Properties of Powder Metal Parts

Iron powders were mixed with graphite powders by 1-15 wt pct to produce block samples using powder metallurgy technique. The powders were blended in a three dimensional blender for 20 min and compacted in a die under 500 MPa by using a one directional press. Sinterability and mechanical properties of the samples with different carbon content were investigated. Sintering process was carried out on a belt furnace with flame curtain in dissociated ammonia atmosphere. Block samples produced were suitable for ASTM B-312 transverse rupture strength test apparatus and were tested with 0.050 kN/s velocity in a press under 100 g load. It was found that graphite amount up to 2 wt pct increased the contact area of particles and acted as a lubricant to affect the sintering behaviour positively. The results indicated that the samples containing up to 5 wt pct showed good sintering behaviour and also good hardness due to an increase in pearlite amount. However, the samples containing higher amount of graphite （more than 5 wt pct） affected the sintering behaviour negatively due to the settlement of free graphite around the Fe powders, which resulted in a decrease in the hardness and transverse rupture strength.

AIM： To determine factors related to disease severity, mortality and morbidity in acute pancreatitis.METHODS： One hundred and ninety-nine consecutive patients were admitted with the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis （AP） in a 5-year period （1998-2002）. In a prospective design, demographic data, etiology, mean hospital admission time, clinical, radiological, biochemical findings, treatment modalities, mortality and morbidity were recorded. Endocrine insufficiency was investigated with oral glucose tolerance test. The relations between these parameters, scoring systems （Ranson, Imrie and APACHE Ⅱ） and patients＇ outcome were determined by using invariable tests and the receiver operating characteristics curve.RESULTS： One hundred patients were men and 99 were women; the mean age was 55 years. Biliary pancreatitis was the most common form, followed by idiopathic pancreatitis （53% and 26%, respectively）. Sixty-three patients had severe pancreatitis and 136 had mild disease. Respiratory rate 〉 20/min, pulse rate 〉 90min, increased C-reactive protein （CRP）, lactate dehydrogenase （LDH） and aspartate aminotransferase （AST） levels, organ necrosis 〉 30% on computed tornography （CT） and leukocytosis were associated with severe disease. The rate of glucose intolerance, morbidity and mortality were 24.1%, 24.8% and 13.6%, respectively. CRP 〉 142 mg/L, BUN 〉 22 mg/dL, LDH 〉 667 U/L, base excess 〉 -5, CT severity index 〉 3 and APACHE score 〉 8 were related to morbidity and mortality.CONCLUSION： APACHE Ⅱ score, LDH, base excess and CT severity index have prognostic value and CRP is a reliable marker for predicting both mortality and morbidity.

This paper explores and theoretically reports the effects of different magnet structures on the cogging torque and the total harmonic distortion of the output waveforms from a permanent magnet *** generator is a radial flux machine and four different structures are considered for the magnet arrangement in the rotor component and modelled in the Ansys/Maxwell electromagnetic simulation *** three-phase machine exhibits different behaviours towards various magnet structures,***,inclined slotted rectangular,skewed double rectangular and inclined slotted skewed double rectangular,*** has been proven by finite element analysis and Fourier analysis that both the cogging and total harmonic distortion values vary significantly for all *** cogging torque values change in the range of 89.95 to 436.75 mNm and the lowest cogging torque is measured for the inclined slotted skewed double rectangular magnet geometry,while the conventional rectangular magnet geometry yields the worst value with 436.75 ***,the total harmonic distortion values varies between 1.63 and 3.55 for different magnetic *** the worst total harmonic distortion value is obtained from the inclined slotted rectangular magnet,the best total harmonic distortion is acquired from the skewed double rectangular *** these results will provide scientists and engineers with important information in order to obtain more efficient machines.

The Acıgöl Graben in SW Turkey,ca.50-55 km in length and 11-15 km in width,formed during the Miocene to Quaternary *** graben is bounded by active normal faults of MaymundağıFault(MF)to the northwest and the GemişFault Zone(GFZ)to the southeast that have triggered significant earthquakes,causing considerable *** study focuses on the Bozkurt segment of the MF,which caused a damaging earthquake(Mw 6.0)in 2019 and another significant earthquake in 1886 during historical times.A paleoseismological trench survey along the Bozkurt segment revealed at least two faulting events,with the last event producing a vertical displacement of 0.25 *** Optical Stimulated Luminescence(OSL)dating indicates that the last earthquake occurred 3.13±0.33 ka BP,while the penultimate earthquake occurred 4.0±0.72 ka *** dates correspond to a long-term slip rate of approximately 0.36±0.11 mm/a and a mean recurrence interval of 2.08 ka,short-term slip rate 0.78±0.16 mm/a and recurrence interval of 0.96 ka,and compatible with the mean sedimentation rate of 0.26 mm/a,calculated from drill logs in Acıgöl *** the 6 km length of the Bozkurt segment and its vertical displacement of 0.25 m in the last event,this segment has the potential to generate earthquakes ranging from 5.6 to 5.9 ***-term slip rates derived from geomorphological data are 0.56 mm/year to the north and 0.64 mm/a to the south of the graben,indicating higher subsidence on the southern *** rates are in accordance with the slip rates calculated from the paleoseismological trench survey and sedimentation rate from the *** indications show that the Bozkurt segment is an active Holocene fault with relatively long recurrence intervals and low-slip ***,the paleoseismological studies in combination with geomorphological data are important tool to assess seismic hazards and to define the characteristics of individual fault segments.
