Background:Urogenital schistosomiasis is a parasitic infection of public health importance that affects over 112 million people *** study aimed at assessing the urogenital schistosomiasis prevalence and risk factors of transmission around Mape dam suburds in Malantouen district,West,***:The study was conducted using semi-structured pretested questionnaires to collect socio-demographic and ecological *** samples were also collected and used to confirm the prevalence of schistosomiasis in consented school-aged children in four primary schools between March-July ***’samples around the dam surburbs were also collected for taxonomy characterization and species *** were compiled and quality control assessed and analysed using SpSS version 17 and Epiinfo data 3.1.ppupils,with gender ratio of 1.04(m/f).The prevalence of schistosomiasis haematobium was 16.6%.Mambonko school site,which is the closest to the dam suburbs,registered the greatest prevalence rate of 40%.The age group beween 10-13 years was the most infected(18.3%)and boys were more infested than girls(21.0%vs.15.5%).Haematuria,urination pain,school absentiesm and poor performance were the major recorded complications in 39.5 and 26.3%males to female *** rate gender disparity documented is still poorly understood and Bulinus truncatus collected from Mambonko suburb as potential snail intermediate host requires further ***:Authors advocated that schools and dam suburds sustained and innovative community-based surveillance and response targeted interventions implementation are needed to inform and support decisionmaking policy,but also in improving effective contextual behavioural communication changes and MDA improved uptake measures on national schistosomiasis control and elimination in Cameroon.

Thiol-based redox post-translational modifications have emerged as important mechanisms of signaling and regulation in all organisms, and thioredoxin plays a key role by controlling the thiol-disulfide status of target proteins. Recent redox proteomic studies revealed hundreds of proteins regulated by glutathio- nylation and nitrosylation in the unicellular green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, while much less is known about the thioredoxin interactome in this organism. By combining qualitative and quantitative proteomic analyses, we have comprehensively investigated the Chlamydomonas thioredoxome and 1188 targets have been identified. They participate in a wide range of metabolic pathways and cellular pro- cesses. This study broadens not only the redox regulation to new enzymes involved in well-known thiore- doxin-regulated metabolic pathways but also sheds light on cellular processes for which data supporting redox regulation are scarce （aromatic amino acid biosynthesis, nuclear transport, etc）. Moreover, we char- acterized 1052 thioredoxin-dependent regulatory sites and showed that these data constitute a valuable resource for future functional studies in Chlamydomonas. By comparing this thioredoxome with proteomic data for glutathionylation and nitrosylation at the protein and cysteine levels, this work confirms the existence of a complex redox regulation network in Chlamydomonas and provides evidence of a tremendous selectivity of redox post-translational modifications for specific cysteine residues.

Coeliac disease in children in Christchurch,New Zealand:presentation and patterns from 2000-2010

AIM: To evaluate the presentation patterns of a cohort of children diagnosed with coeliac disease(CD) at Christchurch Hospital, New ***: Children aged 16 years or less diagnosed with CD at Christchurch Hospital, Christchurch, New Zealand, over the 11 year period between 2000 and 2010 were identified retrospectively. Diagnosis of CD was based upon standard histological criteria of endoscopically-obtained duodenal biopsies. Overlapping search methods were used to identify all relevant diagnoses within the time period. Endoscopy reports and histology findings were reviewed to confirm diagnosis. The numbers of diagnoses per year were calculated and changes in annual rates over the study period were delineated. Available records were reviewed to ascertain presenting symptoms, baseline anthropometry and the indication for referral for each child. In addition, the results of relevant investigations prior to diagnosis were accessed and reviewed. These key investigations included the results of coeliac serology testing(including tissue transglutaminase and endomysial antibodies) as well as the results of tests measuring levels of micronutrients, such as iron. In addition, the histological findings of concurrent biopsies in the oesophagus and stomach were reviewed. RESULTS: Over the 11 year study period, 263 children were diagnosed with CD at this New Zealand paediatric facility. Children were diagnosed from late infancy to 16.9 years: the largest subgroup of children(n = 111) were diagnosed between 5 and 12 years of age. The numbers of children diagnosed each year increased from 13 per year to 31 per year over the 11 years(p = 0.0095).preschool children(aged less than 5 years) were more likely to have low weight, and to have diarrhoea and abdominal pain prior to diagnosis. Efficacy of Oral Micronutrient Supplementation on Linear Nail Growth in Healthy Individuals

Introduction: Several studies demonstrate the effects of the oral supplementations on the skin while there are limited data for their effects on the nail quality in healthy individuals. Only placebo controlled double blind studies could provide the reliable data considering the physiologic nail growth. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of consumption of a micronutrient supplementation on linear nail growth and thickness. Subjects and Method: 60 healthy female volunteers aged 35 to 65 years old were enrolled, randomized blindly in treatment and placebo groups, taking one tablet per day for 3 months. The evaluation was performed on D0 and D90 ± 3 days by measuring the linear nail growth, nail thickness by high frequency ultrasound imaging and also subjects’ self-assessment. Results: All 60 subjects finished the study without any serious adverse event. At D90 both groups revealed a significant linear nail growth (5.20 ± 0.35 for treatment group (p = 0.001) and 5.15 ± 0.30 for placebo group (p = 0.001)). However, the difference between the treatment and placebo group was statistically significant (p = 0.01) demonstrating the efficacy of oral supplementation on linear nail growth. No significant difference was observed at D90 for nail thickness measured with HFUS between 2 groups. The self-assessment score regarding ?brittle nails? and ?split nails? was diminished non-significantly in both groups. Conclusion: The results observed in this trial revealed that the oral micronutrient supplementation can provide beneficial effect on nail growth. This result may be due to the whole formula as the single vitamin treatment like biotin was shown to be non-effective. A longer study would be needed to confirm the efficacy on nail thickness.

Extracranial Carotid Atherosclerosis and Acute Ischemic Stroke in a Tertiary Hospital in Burkina Faso

Objective: To determine the prevalence and risk factors of carotid atherosclerosis among ischemic stroke patients in a tertiary hospital in Burkina Faso. Methodology: This was a descriptive and analytical retrospective study of patients admitted at neurology department of Yalgado Ouedraogo University Teaching Hospital with ischemic stroke and cerebral large vessel atherosclerosis in the period from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2016. Results: The prevalence of extracranial carotid atherosclerosis was 23.9%. The mean age of patients was 63.5 years (Range 31 - 90 years). The study population included 65% of men and 35% of women. Hypertension was the most common vascular risk factor (75.6%). Stroke was mostly located in the anterior circulation in 23.9%. Low HDL-C was present in 52% of patients. The majority of plaque was homogeneous (85.2%). plaque were located in carotid bulbar artery (38.5%) followed by common carotid artery (28.2%) and extracranial internal carotid artery (18.6%). According to cerebral lesion, plaque was bilateral in 45.5%, ipsilateral in 42.3% and contralateral in 12.1% of cases. Tight stenosis was found in 30.1% of patients. There was a significant link between male gender and tight stenosis (p = 0.004). Aspirin was the most antiplatelet therapy used (95.5%). Statin therapy was used in 91% of patients. The mean duration of hospitalization was 12.5 days with a mortality rate of 7.1%. Conclusions: Our study showed that extra carotid atherosclerosis was the most common cause of ischemic stroke in Burkina Faso. Man gender was most represented than women.

The objective of this work was to determine the suitability of poultry methacompost from the 2nd methanizer of the BRIN FOUNDATION in Yaokokoroko (Bondoukou, Côte d’Ivoire), to be used in the improvement of soil fertility. The methacompost studied has a C/N ratio = 17.26, which could characterize a stable methacompost with high amending power. It also contains mineral elements Nitrogen (N) = 0.68% DM;phosphorus (p) = 0.084% DM;potassium (K) = 0.67% DM;Calcium (Ca) = 0.65% DM;Magnesium (Mg) = 0.15% DM. red in the standard relating to the organic amendments (NFU 44-051). The methacompost has fertilizing and amending properties and could not present any risk for vegetation and soils.
