Bruch's membrane opening-minimum rim width and visual field loss in glaucoma:a broken stick analysis

AIM：To determine the Bruch＇s membrane opening-minimum rim width（BMO-MRW） tipping point where corresponding visual field（VF） damages become ***：A total of 85 normal subjects and 83 glaucoma patients（one eye per participant） were recruited for the *** of the patients had VF examinations and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography to measure the *** deviation values for 52 VF points were allocated to the corresponding sector according to the Garway-Heath distribution *** evaluate the relationship between VF loss and BMOMRW measurements,a ＂broken-stick＂ statistical model was *** tipping point where the VF values started to sharply decrease as a function of BMO-MRW measurements was estimated and the slopes above and below this tipping point were ***：A 25.9% global BMO-MRW loss from normative value was required for the VF loss to be ***,substantial BMO-MRW thinning in inferotemporal sector（33.1%） and relatively less BMO-MRW thinning in the superotemporal sector（8.9%） were necessary for the detection of the VF *** the tipping point,the slopes were close to zero throughout all of the sectors and the VF loss was unrelated to the BMO-MRW *** VF loss was related to the BMO-MRW loss below the tipping *** difference between the two slopes was statistically significant（P≤0.002）.CONCLUSION：Substantial BMO-MRW loss appears to be necessary for VF loss to be detectable in patients with open angle glaucoma with standard achromatic perimetry.

Unsteady settling behavior of solid spherical particles falling in water as a Newtonian fluid is investigated using a drag coefficient of the form given by Ferreira et *** transformation method(DTM),Galerkin method(GM),collocation method(CM),and numerical methods are applied to analyze the characteristics of particles *** influence of physical parameters on terminal velocity is discussed and moreover,comparing the techniques,it is showed that GM and CM are very efficient for solving the governing equation and DTM with Padéapproximation has the best agreement with numerical *** novelty of this work is introducing three simple and exact analytical method for solving the nonlinear equation of sedimentation and applied it in many industrial and chemical applications。

In this work, a novel series of multiferroic materials BiMn2O5doped by Neodyme has been prepared by a sol-gel method at low temperature. The crystallographic studies using X-ray diffraction and Rietveld Refinement techniques showed the formation of single-phase samples for all compositions, crystallizing in a mullite-type orthorhombic perovskite structure, space group Pbam(Z = 4). The SEM techniques confirmed the formation of single-phase materials with excellent mapping distribution. Raman and infrared spectroscopic measurements were performed and combined with lattice dynamics simulations to describe the room-temperature vibrational properties of all samples. The X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy(XPS) were measured in the energy range of 0–1400 eV at room temperature. The Fermi level EFwas defined with the accuracy of 0.127, 0.32 and 0.48 eV for BiMn2O5, Bi0.9Nd0.1Mn2O5and Bi0.8Nd0.2Mn2O5respectively. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy shows the existence of Mn4+state. Magnetic measurements indicate Neél temperature TNat 31, 40 and 61 K for BiMn2O5,Bi0.9Nd0.1Mn2O5and Bi0.8Nd0.2Mn2O5respectively.

New pretreatment method for high-tension electrical separation of zircon from quartz

Electrostatic separation is one of the mineral processing methods based on mineral *** method has some significant problems such as being sensitive to humidity,high middling product,and impurity of non-conductive *** this study,a new pretreatment method was proposed for the separation of zircon from quartz before electrostatic separation to solve these *** this regard,two stages of pretreatment were applied which involved using collector of sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)for adjusting wettability of the zircon surface and spraying electrolyte aqueous solution to increase conductivity of the quartz *** effects of important parameters including pH,collector concentration,conditioning time,and concentration and type of electrolyte on the process efficiency were *** results showed that the optimal conditions of high-tension electrical separation were pH of 4,SDS concentration of 1×10-4 mol/L,conditioning time of 4 min and NaCl as an electrolyte with concentration of 4.27 mol/*** efficiency of 95.12% was achieved in optimum *** pretreatment method can be successfully used before high-tension electrical separation to separate the conductive or non-conductive minerals with various compositions.

Target recognition based on phase noise of received laser signal in lidar jammer

In this Letter, a method based on the effects of imperfect oscillators in lasers is proposed to distinguish targets in continuous wave tracking lidar. This technique is based on the fact that each lidar signal source has a specific influence on the phase noise that makes real targets from the false ones. A simulated signal is produced by complex circuits, modulators, memory, and signal oscillators. For example, a deception laser beam has an unequal and variable phase noise from a real target. Thus, the phase noise of transmitted and received signals does not have the same power levels and patterns. To consider the performance of the suggested method, the probability of detection（PD） is shown for various signal-to-noise ratios and signal-to-jammer ratios based on experimental outcomes.

Experimental study on solid particle migration and production behaviors during marine natural gas hydrate dissociation by depressurization

Sand production is one of the main obstacles restricting gas extraction efficiency and safety from marine natural gas hydrate(NGH)*** migration within the NGH reservoir dominates sand production behaviors,while their relationships were rarely reported,severely constrains quantitative evaluation of sand production *** paper reports the optical observations of solid particle migration and production from micrometer to mesoscopic scales conditioned to gravel packing during depressurization-induced NGH dissociation for the first *** evolutionary modes of sand migration are established based on experimental observations,and its implications on field NGH are comprehensively *** particle migration regimes of local borehole failure,continuous collapse,wormhole expansion,extensive slow deformation,and pore-wall fluidization are proved to occur during *** types of particle migration regimes and their transmission modes during depressurization are predominantly determined by initial hydrate *** contrast,the depressurization mainly dominates the transmission rate of the particle migration ***,both the cumulative mass and the medium grain size of the produced sand decrease linearly with increasing initial methane hydrate(MH)*** gas bubble emission,expansion,and explosion during MH dissociation delay sand migration into the *** the same time,continuous water flow is a requirement for sand production during hydrate dissociation by *** experiments enlighten us that a constitutive model that can illustrate visible particle migration regimes and their transmission modes is urgently needed to bridge numerical simulation and field *** wellbore layout positions or special reservoir treatment shall be important for mitigating sand production tendency during NGH exploitation.

Decline of semen quality during IVF is not associated with subjective male stress

The aim of the present study was to assess if semen quality declines during in vitro fertilization （IVF） and whether or not this phenomenon is triggered by chronic male stress. In order to test this hypothesis, we first investigated a retrospective cohort of 155 male IVF patients （testing cohort）. Subsequently, we started a prospective cohort study in men undergoing their first IVF and assessed semen quality and subjective male chronic stress using a validated tool, i.e. the Fertility Problem Inventory （FPI） questionnaire. The association between stress and sperm quality decline measured 4-6weeks before the start of IVF （T1） and at the day of oocyte retrieval （T2） was the primary outcome. Live birth rate, first trimester abortion and rate of poor responders were secondary outcomes. In the testing cohort, mean progressive motility, but not mean sperm density significantly declined. There were 78/154 （51%） men who showed a decline in semen density and 50/154 （32%） men who showed a decline in progressive motility. In the validation cohort, progressive motility declined, whereas, sperm density increased from T1 to T2. Of 78 men, 27 men had increased stress （FPI-score 〉 146）. Sperm density and progressive motility were not significantly different in men with and without stress. However, in the presence of male stress, couples had a higher rate of poor responders, miscarriages and a lower rate of live births. Subjective stress is not associated with a decline in semen quality observed during IVF but may be associated with adverse ore^nancv outcome.

Effect of Matricaria chamomilla Hydroalcoholic Extract on Cisplatin-induced Neuropathy in Mice

AIM: Cisplatin-based chemotherapy is a mainstay for the treatment of solid tumors, especially colorectal, ovarian, testicular, bladder, and lung cancer. Studies have shown that cisplatin could have painful effects on human and animal models. Matri-caria chamomilla (MC) has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of MC hydro-alcoholic extract on cisplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy and to compare with morphine in mice. METHODS: Experiments were performed on 60 NMRI male mice weighed 25 g to 30 g which have been divided into 6 groups. The first group received normal saline; the second group received MC hydroalcoholic extract; the third group received cisplatin; the fourth group received MC hydroalcoholic extract and cisplatin, 96 hours before formalin test; the fifth group received morphine and the sixth group received cisplatin and mor-phine. The time of injected hind paw biting and licking time were measured in 5-minute interval for an hour. RESULTS: Results showed that formalin induced significant (P < 0.05) pain response (the first phase: 0-5 min and the second phase: 15-40 min after injection). Administration of MC extract before formalin injection showed significant (P < 0.05) decrease of pain responses in the first and second phase. Administration of cisplatin produced significant (P < 0.05) increase in pain response in both phases of formalin test. Injection of MC extract and cisplatin together have shown that MC is able to decrease the second phase of cisplatin-induced pain sig-nificantly (P < 0.05). Morphine decreased cisplatin-induced pain in the first and second phase of formalin test significantly ( P < 0.05). In comparison morphine has analgesic effects in the first phase and MC extract has anti inflammatory effects in the second phase of formalin test significantly (P < 0.05). Assessment and prediction of road accident injuries trend using time-series models in Kurdistan

Background: Road traffic accidents are commonly encountered incidents that can cause high-intensity injuries to the victims and have direct impacts on the members of the society. Iran has one of the highest incident rates of road traffic accidents. The objective of this study was to model the patterns of road traffic accidents leading to injury in Kurdistan province, Iran. Methods: A time-series analysis was conducted to characterize and predict the frequency of road traffic accidents that lead to injury in Kurdistan province. The injuries were categorized into three separate groups which were related to the car occupants, motorcyclists and pedestrian road traffic accident injuries. The Box-Jenkins time-series analysis was used to model the injury observations applying autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) and seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) from March 2009 to February 2015 and to predict the accidents up to 24 months later (February 2017). The analysis was carried out using R-3.4.2 statistical software package. Results: A total of 5199 pedestrians, 9015 motorcyclists, and 28,906 car occupants’accidents were observed. The mean (SD) number of car occupant, motorcyclist and pedestrian accident injuries observed were 401.01 (SD 32.78), 123.70 (SD 30.18) and 71.19 (SD 17.92) per year, respectively. The best models for the pattern of car occupant, motorcyclist, and pedestrian injuries were the ARIMA (1, 0, 0), SARIMA (1, 0, 2) (1, 0, 0)12, and SARIMA (1, 1, 1) (0, 0, 1)12, respectively. The motorcyclist and pedestrian injuries showed a seasonal pattern and the peak was during summer (August). The minimum frequency for the motorcyclist and pedestrian injuries were observed during the late autumn and early winter (December and January). Conclusion: Our findings revealed that the observed motorcyclist and pedestrian injuries had a seasonal pattern that was explained by air temperature changes overtime.
