Background: Healthcare providers were faced daily with many decision-making that impacted patients’ safety. According to dual process theory, there were two types of thinking: Experiential style (ES) and Rational Style (RS). Both thinking styles had an impact on individuals’ decisions making. Therefore, the aim of this study was to find out nurses’ and physicians’ styles of thinking and how this impacted patients’ safety. Design: A cross-sectional study. methods: nurses and physicians sample of adults (n = 308), 190 (61.7%) of the sample were nurses and 118 (38.3%) of the sample were physicians. Participants completed a self-report online survey, which included demographic information followed by questionnaires to measure thinking style and a cognitive puzzle to see if the medical error was associated with certain styles of thinking. Results: The main findings were that nurses (m = 2.41, SD = 0.37) had significantly higher scores compared to physicians (m = 2.29, SD = 0.39) in their ES, t(305) = 2.73, p = 0.007;with medium effect size, d = 0.37692. Conclusion: nurses differed from physicians in ES where nurses had a significantly higher score than physicians which could be positive for patients’ safety as higher ES would report errors compared to lower ES.

We optimized Origanum majorana (Om) extraction for mild steel corrosion inhibition in neutral 0.5 m chloride medium. The inhibition mechanism evolved in presence of the optimal extract was discussed when calculating the activation energy (Ea), the activation enthalpy (ΔaH) as well as the activation entropy (ΔaS). The Om extract molecules were investigated using the density functional theory (DFT) at B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) basis set level. 1-methyl-4-propan-2-ylcyclohexa-1,3-diene alpha-terpinene was predicted exhibiting the most inhibition capabilities.

Background Wilms tumor (WT) is the most common childhood kidney cancer worldwide, yet its incidence and clinical behavior vary according to race and access to adequate healthcare resources. To guide and streamline therapy in the war-torn and resource-constrained city of Baghdad, Iraq, we conducted a first-ever molecular analysis of 20 WT specimens to characterize the biological features of this lethal disease within this challenged population. methods next-generation sequencing of ten target genes associated with WT development and treatment resistance (WT1, CTnnB1, WTX, IGF2, CITED1, SIX2, p53, n-mYC, CRABP2, and TOP2A) was completed. Immunohistochemistry was performed for 6 marker proteins of WT (WT1, CTnnB1, nCAm, CITED1, SIX2, and p53). Patient outcomes were compiled. Results mutations were detected in previously described WT 'hot spots' (e.g., WT1 and CTnnB1) as well as novel loci that may be unique to the Iraqi population. Immunohistochemistry showed expression domains most typical of blastemal-predominant WT. Remarkably, despite the challenges facing families and care providers, only one child, with combined WT1 and CTnnB1 mutations, was confirmed dead from disease. median clinical follow-up was 40.5 months (range 6–78 months). Conclusions These data suggest that WT biology within a population of Iraqi children manifests features both similar to and unique from disease variants in other regions of the world. These observations will help to risk stratify WT patients living in this difficult environment to more or less intensive therapies and to focus treatment on cell-specific targets.

AIm: To retrospectively analyze changes in clinical indication, referring medical specialty and detected pathology for small bowel double-contrast examinations. mETHODS: Two hundred and forty-one (n = 143 females; n = 98 males; 01.01.1990-31.12.1990) and 384 (n = 225 females; n = 159 males; 01.01.2004-31.12.2010) patients underwent enteroclysis, respectively. All exami- nations were performed in standardized double-contrast technique. After placement of a nasojejunal probe distal to the ligament of Treitz, radiopaque contrast media followed by Xray negative distending contrast media were administered. Following this standardized projections in all four abdominal quadrants were acquired. Depending on the detected pathology further documentation was carried out by focused imaging. Examination protocols were reviewed and compared concerning requesting unit, indication and final report. RESULTS: Two hundred and forty-one examinations in 1990 faced an average of 55 examinations per year from 2004-2010. There was an increase of examinations for gastroenterological (33.6% to 64.6%) andpediatric (0.4% to 7.8%) indications while internal (29.0% to 6.0% for inpatients and from 16.6% to 9.1% for outpatients) and surgical (12.4% to 7.3%) referrals significantly decreased. 'Follow-up of Crohn’s disease' (33.1%) and 'bleeding/tumor search' (15.1%) represented the most frequent clinical indications. A total of 34% (1990) and 53.4% (2004-2010) examinations yielded pathologic findings. In the period 01.01.2004 -31.12.2010 the largest proportion of pathological findings was found in patients with diagnosed Crohn’s disease (73.5%), followed by patients with abdominal pain (67.6% with history of surgery and 52.6% without history of surgery), chronic diarrhea (41.7%), suspected Crohn’s disease (39.5%) and search for gastrointestinal bleeding source/tumor (19.1%). Influence of the Storage Duration at Different Temperatures on the Concentrations of Extractable Inorganic Soil nutrients

The influence of the short storage periods at different temperatures on the concentrations of extractable soil cations (Ca2+, mg2+, na+ and K+) and anions (Cl-, SO4- and PO4- ) has been investigated in nine soil samples from nile river terraces at River nile State, north of Sudan (17.82289 to 17.82389n and 33.99974 to 34.02127E). Each soil extract is divided into three treatments: i) control (immediately analyzed);ii) storage for 10 days and;iii) storage for 30 days. Each treatment is replicated three times: i) storage at 10°C;ii) storage at ambient laboratory temperature (25°C) and;iii) storage at 45°C in incubator. Statistical analysis of results reveals that significant difference are found at level (P - and PO4- (0.043, 0.002, 0.001, 0.021, 0.004 and 0.001) respectively at 25°C and 45°C and storage periods of 10 and 30 days. In contrast, significant difference is also found at level (P - concentrations are significantly decreased when the storage period exceeds 10 days and temperature more than 25°C. Depending upon our study results;we conclude that, all extractable inorganic nutrients are clearly affected by storage periods at various temperatures, exception of na+. most cations and anions are increased significantly with increased of storage period and temperatures. We therefore highly recommend that the extractable inorganic soil nutrients should be rapidly analyzed in order to obtain accurate results;otherwise, the time between extraction and analysis should be carefully recorded which may help considerably interpreting data from various studies.

Purpose: To determine the role of diffusion weighted mR imaging and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) in benign hepatic focal lesions. method and materials: This study included 47 patients (29 m, 18 F with mean age of 43 years) with benign hepatic focal lesions. They were cyst (n = 8), hemangioma (n = 23), abscess (n = 5), adenoma (n = 5), focal nodular hyperplasia (n = 4) and nodular regenerative hyperplasia (n = 2). They underwent routine mR imaging and diffusion mR weighted imaging using 1.5 tesla mR unit (Symphony-Siemens). Diffusion mR imaging was done using spin echo type of single shot echo planar imaging (EPI) with b value of 0, 500 & 1000 sec/mm2. The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) map was reconstructed and ADC value was measured. The mean ADC values correlated with histo-pathological results as well as follow-up imaging results. Results: Adequate ADC maps were obtained in 47 patients. The mean ADC values were 3.4 ± 0.12 × 10-3 mm2/sec in cystic lesion, 2.23 ± 0.08 × 10-3 mm2/sec in hemangioma, 1.94 ± 0.05 × 10-3 mm2/sec in abscess, 1.72 ± 0.07 × 10-3 in focal nodular hyperplasia, 1.65 ± 0.06 × 10-3 mm2/sec in adenoma, 1.62 ± 0.07 × 10-3 mm2/sec in nodular regenerative hyperplasia. The mean ADC values were significantly different within benign hepatic focal lesions (P nces between the mean ADC values of FnH, adenoma and nRH were not statistically significant (P nclusion: Diffusion weighted mR imaging is a new imaging modality for diagnosis and characterization of different benign hepatic focal lesions, particularly in patient with renal dysfunction.

The Air Quality, Characterization of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon, Organic Carbon, and Diurnal Variation of Particulate matter over Riyadh City

Concentrations of airborne particulate matter (Pm10 & Pm2.5) were measured over a period extended from January 2012 to October 2013 at two sites: a suburban area, Riyadh airport (AP) and an urban area, King Fahd road district (KF) (densely trafficked site) in Riyadh city, Saudi Arabia. The quality of ambient air using the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Air Quality Index (AQI) was evaluated during this period. The average AQI values exceeded 100 on 6 months out of 11 in AP district. At KF district the condition was worse, and AQI values exceeded 100 on all months. This emphasizes the fact that Pm concentrations over Riyadh can be regarded as a real environmental problem that could be a severe risk to quality of life and threaten human health. A higher-volume air sampler at the two sites was used to collect particulate matter (Pm10 and Pm2.5) for chemical analysis of the Pm for PAHs and total organic carbon. At KF station the mean concentrations’ values of total PAHs in Pm2.5 and Pm10 were 4.89 ng/m3 and 12.96 ng/m3 respectively. At the AP station the corresponding values of total PAHs in Pm2.5 and Pm10 were 8.07 ng/m3 and 11.91 ng/m3 respectively. The PAHs did not exceed the air criteria of World Health Organization indicating the air pollution of PAHs in Riyadh District was not serious. As for the total organic carbon the results demonstrated that the concentration ranged from 0.211 to 0.506 g/kg at KF station and from 0.054 to 0.342 g/kg at AP station. On an annual basis, OC concentrations were two times higher for the city center site (KF) compared to the rural AP site. This can most likely be explained by increased emissions from higher traffic at KF site. The diurnal variability of Pm was mainly associated with the severity of pollution.
