The.nutritional, microbiological and se.sory characte.istics of improve. kunu-zaki produce. from malte. ce.e.ls e.riche. with malte. soymilk at diffe.e.t substitution le.e.s (0% - 30%) we.e.inve.tigate.. e.richme.t with soymilk and malting incre.se. the.prote.n, amino acid, ash and moisture.conte.t of the.improve. kunu-zaki. Malting re.ulte. in a de.re.se.in carbohydrate.and fat conte.t. The.prote.n conte.t of the.malte. sample. range. be.we.n 2.79% and 3.82% while.that of unmalte. was 2.36%. The.e.was de.re.se.in the.conce.tration of phytic acid and trypsin inhibitor afte. malting but the.conce.tration incre.se. as soymilk was adde.. Microbiological analyse. showe. that microbial load of sample. incre.se. with the.addition of soymilk. The.e.was a significant diffe.e.ce.(p 0.05) in the.se.sory attribute., acce.tability de.re.se.with incre.se.in soymilk addition be.ause.of the.be.ny flavor.

Cultivating traditional upland rice.cultivars on nutrie.t de.le.e. soil cause. poor and low yie.d. Little.atte.tion is paid to pe.formance.of inte.-spe.ific Ne.ICA cultivars grown on nutrie.t de.icie.t soil augme.te. with diffe.e.t type. of compost. The.e.ore. fie.d trials we.e.conducte. during 2010 and 2011 planting se.sons in Ibadan to e.aluate.growth, dry matte., nutrie.t uptake.e.ficie.cy and grain yie.d of upland rice.grown on nutrie.t de.icie.t soil augme.te. with diffe.e.t type. of compost. The.e.we.e.nine.tre.tme.ts comprising of thre. upland rice.cultivars: Ne.ICA I, Ne.ICA II and Ofada, two compost type. applie. at the.rate.of 8 t·ha-1: poultry dropping + maize.stove. (PDMC) and cattle.dung + maize.stove. (CDMC) and control. The.tre.tme.ts we.e.laid out in randomize. comple.e.block de.ign and re.licate. thre. time.. CDMC e.hance. growth, nutrie.t use.e.ficie.cy, dry matte. and grain yie.d of upland rice.cultivars. Pe.formance.of Ofada was be.te. than Ne.ICA cultivars. N (24.55 g), P (12.45 g) and K (35.41 g) uptake.conce.tration and grain yie.d (5.45 t/ha) we.e.highe.t in Ofada plots augme.te. with CDMC. Re.idual e.fe.t of compost on growth, yie.d and nutrie.t uptake.e.ficie.cy of upland rice.on nutrie.t de.icie.t soil was marginal.

Background: Pe.ple.living with Human Immunode.icie.cy Virus (HIV) are.more.pre.ispose. to urinary tract infe.tions due.to suppre.sion of the.r immunity by the.virus. Asymptomatic bacte.iuria is associate. with an incre.se. risk of symptomatic urinary tract infe.tion and the.latte. be.ng an important contributor to de.e.opme.t of chronic re.al failure. hype.te.sion and toxae.ia of pre.nancy. The.aim of this study was to de.e.mine.the.pre.ale.ce.of asymptomatic bacte.iuria in HIV-infe.te. patie.ts and proffe. a re.omme.dation on the.ne.d or othe.wise.to scre.n. Me.hods: This was a cross se.tional study of tre.tme.t-naive.HIV-infe.te. patie.ts atte.ding the.HIV clinics of Lagos State.Unive.sity Te.ching Hospital (LASUTH), Ike.a. A single.voide. ase.tically colle.te. mid-stre.m urine.(MSU) was obtaine. from e.ch patie.t and all sample. proce.se. imme.iate.y, we.e.se.t for urinalysis and culture. Isolate. we.e.conside.e. significant if the.e.we.e.≥105 colony forming unit/mL (CFU/mL) with 2 or le.s isolate., doubtful significance.if 5 CFU/mL. Significant isolate. we.e.se.e.te. for ide.tification. Data we.e.analyze. using SPSS ve.sion 16.0 (Statistical Package.for Social Scie.ce., Inc., Chicago, Ill). Re.ults: A total of 156 conse.ting participants we.e.re.ruite. into the.study. The.me.n age.was 36.45 ± 8.65 ye.rs. The.e.we.e.60 of 156 (38.4%) male. and 96 of 156 (61.56%) fe.ale.. Only 33 of 156 (21.2%) had significant bacte.iuria, out of the.33 participants, 19 (57.8%) we.e.asymptomatic, while.14 of 33 (42.4%) had significant growth but we.e.symptomatic or on antibiotics. e. coli was isolate. in 9 of 19 (47.3%), followe. by Staph aure.s 4 of 19 (21.05%). Conclusion: More.than half of participants who had significant growth had asymptomatic bacte.iuria, while.one.fifth of all patie.ts had significant growth. Conside.ing this statistics, scre.ning for or tre.tme.t of asymptomatic bacte.iuria may be.re.omme.de. in all HIV-infe.te. patie.ts.
