Geochemical fractionation and ecological risks assessment of benthic sediment-bound heavy metals from coastal ecosystems off the equatorial Atlantic Ocean

This study determines the pollution, fractionation, and ecological risks of sediment-bound heavy metals from coastal ecosystems off the equatorial Atlantic Ocean. Contamination Factor(CF), pollution load index(PLI), and geoaccumulation index(Igeo) were used to assess the extent of the heavy metal pollution, while the potential ecological risk was evaluated using the risks assessment code(RAC) and Hkanson potential ecological risk. The analysis revealed concentrations(mg/g, dw) of the cadmium(Cd),chromium(Cr), copper(Cu), nickel(Ni), and lead(Pb) in sediments for wet and dry seasons vary from 4.40-5.08, 14.80-21.09. 35.03-44.8, 2.14-2.28, and 172.24-196.39, respectively. The results also showed that the metal fractionation percentages in the residual, oxidizable, and reducible fractions are the most significant, while the exchangeable and carbonate bound trace metals are relatively low. The RAC values indicate no risk for Cd and Ni and low risk for other metals at all the studied sites during both *** ecological risk analysis of the heavy metal concentrations indicates that Cd had high individual potential ecological risk, while the other metals have low risk at all investigated sites. The multi-elemental potential ecological risk indices(R1) indicate high ecological risk in all the ecosystems.

Data-Driven Global Robust Optimal Output Regulation of Uncertain Partially Linear Systems

In this paper, a data-driven control approach is developed by reinforcement learning (RL) to solve the global robust optimal output regulation problem (GROORP) of partially linear systems with both static uncertainties and nonlinear dynamic uncertainties. By developing a proper feedforward controller, the GROORP is converted into a global robust optimal stabilization problem. A robust optimal feedback controller is designed which is able to stabilize the system in the presence of dynamic uncertainties. The closed-loop system is ensured to be input-to-output stable regarding the static uncertainty as the external input. This robust optimal controller is numerically approximated via RL. Nonlinear small-gain theory is applied to show the input-to-output stability for the closed-loop system and thus solves the original GROORP. Simulation results validates the efficacy of the proposed methodology.

Surface Mixed Layer Profile of Physical and Biogeochemical Variables in the Subpolar North-West and -east Atlantic Ocean: A Data-Model Comparison Study

This paper presents a study of physical and biogeochemical variables using numerical model and mixed layer oceanographic data from a 2 - 3 year?in situmeasurements in the Northwestern and Northeastern sites of the Atlantic Ocean. Model outputs are presented and indicated that very good estimates may be obtained. The outputs showed considerable agreement in reproducing seasonal distributions of?pCO2,?pCO2-T,?pCO2-nonT, mixed layer temperature, and chlorophyll-a?in both winter and summer, and therefore provide useful physical and theoretical understanding of their biogeochemistry. The model?pCO2indicated a distinct temporal variability with seasonal changes coinciding with the change in sea surface temperature. It also provides an agreement that there is a strong seasonal cycle of mixed layer parameters filliped by nonthermal and physical factors. As an outgrowth of this work, the?pCO2?model outputs affirm the North Atlantic Ocean capacity as an important oceanographic sink for anthropogenic carbon dioxide.

Ownership, structure, and performance of architectural firms

With architectural firms, owners are often managers whose characteristics may influence the firm structure. This study investigated the relationships between ownership characteristics, organizational structure, and performance of architectural firms. Utilizing a sample of architectural firms from Nigeria, a questionnaire survey of 92 architectural firms was carried out. Data were analyzed using multiple analysis of variance （MANOVA） and resression analyses. A generally low level of specialization of duties was observed even though professional service firms were defined as highly specialized firms. For most of the firms, level of formalization was moderate or high, while level of centralization was mostly low. Results revealed a direct significant relationship between legal ownership form and formalization dimension of structure. In addition, the centralization dimension of structure influenced firm performance. However, no direct relationship between ownership characteristics and performance was noted, although different fits of ownership characteristics and structural variables were observed. The results suggest that principals of architectural firms should match their characteristics with the firm structure to enhance performance in relation to profit.

The production of biohydrogen from biological processes is cleaner and more sustainable than that of fossil fuel-based *** drive for cleaner and sustainable energy sources is an important facet of the *** on these findings,this paper aimed to examine the significance and impact of biohydrogen on the *** bioprocessing strategies are primarily biophotolysis,fermentation and bio-electrolytic *** that biological processes are slow compared to other thermochemical production processes,production volumes cannot match that of the *** inherently slow nature of biochemical reactions taking place in living organisms is a challenge that puts biohydrogen at a *** processes are also very sensitive to temperature and pH,thereby requiring more intricate process monitoring and *** obtain equivalent volumes of biohydrogen compared to production strategies,larger and more intricate facilities would be needed,implying more cost *** is surmised that biohydrogen will continue to play an important role in the drive for a sustainable bioeconomy despite the current challenges it faces.

Comparative micromorphological study of wild and micropropagated Dioscorea bulbifera Linn

Objective:To study the leaf epidermis of wild and micropropagated Dioscorea bulbifera Linn.(***)in order to document useful diagnostic features that may be employed for correct crude drug identification and to clear any taxonomic uncertainties in the micropropagated medicinal ***:Growth responses of micropropagated *** were observed on Murashige Skoog medium supplemented with 6-benzylamino purine(1.0 mg/L)+α-naphthaleneacetic acid(0.2 mg/L)+cysteine(20 mg/L)using nodal segments as *** of the wild and micropropagated plants were studied ***:More than 80%shoot regeneration and formation of 10%-30%whitish-brown callus were observed within 3 *** highest root proliferation was obtained from Murashige Skoog medium of 6-benzylamino purine(0.05 mg/L)andα-naphthaleneacetic acid(0.01 mg/L)with mean root length of(27.00±1.25)mm and elongated single shoot of mean length(38.00±11.09)*** epidermal features that revealed similarities between the wild and micropropagated plants included amphistomatic condition,presence of mucilage,glandular unicellular trichome with multicellular head,polygonal cells with smooth walls,stomata type and *** variations included thick cuticular wall with closed stomata in wild plant compared to thin walled opened stomata in the in vitro *** of stomata accounted for larger average stomata sizes of(7.68±0.38)μm and(6.14±0.46)μm on the adaxial and abaxial surfaces,respectively of the micropropagated plant compared to the ***:The diagnostic features obtained in the study could serve as a basis for proper identification for quality control for standardization of the medicinal plant.

NeCAB family of neuronal calcium-binding proteins in health and disease

The N-terminal eF-hand calcium-binding proteins 1–3(NeCAB1–3) constitute a family of predominantly neuronal proteins characterized by the presence of at least one eF-hand calcium-binding domain and a functionally less well characterized C-terminal antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. All three family members were initially discovered due to their interactions with other proteins. NeCAB1 associates with synaptotagmin-1, a critical neuronal protein involved in membrane trafficking and synaptic vesicle exocytosis. NeCAB2 interacts with predominantly striatal G-protein-coupled receptors, while NeCAB3 partners with amyloid-β A4 precursor protein-binding family A members 2 and 3, key regulators of amyloid-β production. This demonstrates the capacity of the family for interactions with various classes of proteins. NeCAB proteins exhibit distinct subcellular localizations: NeCAB1 is found in the nucleus and cytosol, NeCAB2 resides in endosomes and the plasma membrane, and NeCAB3 is present in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. The antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain, an evolutionarily ancient component, is akin to atypical heme oxygenases in prokaryotes but is not wellcharacterized in vertebrates. Prokaryotic antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domains typically form dimers, suggesting that calcium-mediated conformational changes in NeCAB proteins may induce antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain dimerization, potentially activating some enzymatic properties. However, the substrate for this enzymatic activity remains uncertain. Alternatively, calcium-mediated conformational changes might influence protein interactions or the subcellular localization of NeCAB proteins by controlling the availability of protein–protein interaction domains situated between the eF hands and the antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. Difference in grading parameters in architectural schools and its impact on the competency rating of future professionals

Architectural education in Nigeria is divided into at wo-tier training system of four and two years for undergraduate and postgraduate study, respectively. After the completion of postgraduate study, a student is deemed competent to take the professional practice examination. Success in this examination qualifies a student to be registered as an architect. The competency rating of future professionals in architectural schools in Nigeria is determined through a jury system of scoring based on predetermined grading parameters. However, the grading parameters adopted by assessing authorities （academic professors and practitioners representing the professional body） differ. The difference in the grading parameters employed by the two approved assessing authorities in Nigeria was investigated in this study. Covenant University in Nigeria was used as a case study. The grading parameters and scores for the 2013 academic session were compared to determine similarities and differences, which might have affected the competency rating of students. Descriptive statistics was employed to analyze the data obtained. Results showed a significant difference in scoring by the two authorities. This difference had a significant consequence on the competency rating of students.

Liposarcoma is one of the most common soft tissue sarcomas,however,its occurrence rate is still rare compared to other *** to its rarity,in vitro experiments are an essential approach to elucidate liposarcoma *** cell culture-based research(2D cell culture)is still playing a pivotal role,while several shortcomings have been recently under *** vivo,mouse models are usually adopted for pre-clinical analyses with expectations to overcome the issues of 2D cell ***,they do not fully recapitulate human dedifferentiated liposarcoma(DDLPS)***,three-dimensional(3D)culture systems have been the recent research focus in the cell biology field with the expectation to overcome at the same time the disadvantages of 2D cell culture and in vivo animal models and fill in the gap between *** the liposarcoma rarity,we believe that 3D cell culture techniques,including 3D cell cultures/co-cultures,and Patient-Derived tumor Organoids(PDOs),represent a promising approach to facilitate liposarcoma investigation and elucidate its molecular mechanisms and effective therapy *** this review,we first provide a general overview of 3D cell cultures compared to 2D cell *** then focus on one of the recent 3D cell culture applications,Patient-Derived Organoids(PDOs),summarizing and discussing several PDO ***,we discuss the current and future applications of PDOs to sarcoma,particularly in the field of liposarcoma.
