The aim of this study is to determine the influence of tree litters on soil nutrients in a managed forest in southwestern *** species tree clusters consisted of indigenous species:Gmelina arborea,Tectona grandis,leucaena leucocephala,Bambusa vulgaris,Treculia africana,Anogeissus leiocarpus were selected and analyzed for their litter and soil chemical properties at 0–5 and 15–30 *** and *** litters have the highest nutrients,while *** and *** are the *** under ***,***,and *** are more acidic due to lower calcium and magnesium contents but have higher manganese and sulphur *** litters improved soil nitrogen,phosphorous,and micro-nutrients but depleted *** lignin and carbon appeared to hinder the release of some ***,potassium and copper are concentrated in the topsoil while others nutrients are not differentiated with soil *** is a positive correlation between litter chemistry and soil chemical *** was concluded that tree litter chemistry differs according to species but determines soil reaction and nutrient *** magnitude of the effect on soil properties is related to the quality of the organic litters.

The genetic relationships among twenty-five accessions of Garcinia kola using six Random Amplified Polymorphic (RAPD) primers were evaluated in this study. The highest volume of total genomic DNA (2218/μl) was recorded in ON4 from Ikare, while the highest DNA concentration of 1.93 gl was found in OS3 from Ilesa. The highest Polymorphic Information Content (PIC) and gene diversity of 93.77% and 0.94 respectively were revealed by primer OPO2 compared to other primers. The dendogram generated from Unweighted Pair Group with Mean Average (UPGMA) clustering delineated two groups, A and B, consisting of 21 and 4 accessions respectively. This study clearly showed the level of molecular diversity in the accessions and the information provided could be utilized for genetic improvement and conservation of Garcinia kola.

Telomeres cap ends of eukaryotic chromosomes prevent them from degradation and ensure genomic stability. Cdc13 is an essential telomere recruitment and maintenance protein. A temperature-sensitive point mutation in cdc13 gene leads to telomere impairment, giving rise to cdc13-1 mutants that suffer lethality at enhanced temperatures. Deleting Exo1 gene from these mutants, however, leads to the emergence of temperature-tolerant mutants called survivors. Yeasts are known to exist as either diploids or haploids. These yeast genotypes generate survivors. The frequency of survivorship in the haploid genotype is one cell in 104 cells/generation at 36°C, however, the frequency at which they emerge in their diploid counterparts at the same temperature is not known. In this study, we investigated the frequency of Survivorship in heterozygous diploids of cdc13-1exo1Δ mutants of S. cerevisiae at 36°C. Diploids were constructed by mating haploid strains of opposite mating type cdc13-1 exo1:lEU strains with strains of cdc13-1 exo1:HIS. The crosses were 1296 × 3181, 2561 × 3182, 1296 × 3182 and 2561 × 3181. Genetic markers and phenotypic appearance were considered while mating the mutant cells. Using a stick, a smear of one haploid strain was made on each YEPD plate labelled C2, C8, C9, D1, D14, and D15. A smear of another opposite mating type was made on the previous strain. They were mixed and allowed to mate overnight, before culturing on media lacking luecine and Histidine (-l and -H). Survivors were generated by culturing these diploids at 36°C. Using SPSS 20.0 software for windows SPSS, 2011, the frequency was determined as one Survivor cell in 72 cells/generation, as their frequency of survivorship averaged 5.9 × 10-5 ± 0.04.

A procedure for evaluating the degree of spheroidization of phosphide platelets in cast Cu-4%Sn- 5%P alloys using fractal analysis was investigated. The specimens were obtained by melting copper and tin in an improvised clay mould raised to a temperature of 1850°C ± 20°C, holding for a period of 10 minutes to 1 hour to modify the aspect ratio of the phosphide platelets. It was found that these platelets have the tendency to change their shape from being spherical to more Euclidian shapes as time elapses. It was found that the inter-platelets distances are approximately equal with time. This effect was more pronounced in samples with high holding time.

全基因组关联研究已成功地发现了十几个位点与唇腭裂的发生相关。然而,这些信号可能只与特定人群相关联,需要在其他人群进行反复验证以发现真正致病SNP位点。我们在来自欧洲(美国和丹麦)、亚洲(日本和蒙古)人群的946个家系(3436个人)验证唇腭裂全基因组关联研究Meta分析发现的6个显著相关的位点:rs742071(1p36),rs7590268(2p21),rs7632427(3p11.1),rs12543318(8q21.3),rs8001641(13q31.1)和rs7179658(15q22.2);同时对来自美国,蒙古,和菲律宾三个人群的713个病例,438个正常对照及485个核心家系在SPRY2基因下游200Kb的三个非编码保守区进行直接测序。我们发现rs8001641位点显著与欧洲人群非综合征型唇裂伴腭裂的发生相关((p=4 x 10-5,ORtransmission=1.86和95%CI:1.38-2.52)。我们还在亚洲和欧洲的病例中发现了一些位于保守区域的遗传变异,它们可帮助定位与唇腭裂发生风险相关的常见遗传变异。这项研究进一步证实了先前报道的rs8001641和欧洲人群唇腭裂之间的关联。
