Primary liver cancer is amongst the commonest tumors worldwide,particularly in parts of the developing world,and is increasing in incidence. Over the past three decades,surgical hepatic resection has evolved from a high risk,resource intensive procedure with limited application,to a safe and commonly performed operation with a range of indications. This article reviews the approach to surgical resection for malignancies such as hepatocellular cancer,metastatic liver de-posits and neuroendocrine tumors. Survival data after resection is also reviewed,as well as indications for curative resection.

Experimental in vitro simulation can be used to predict the wear performance of total knee *** in vitro simulation should aim to replicate the in vivo loading,motion and environment experienced by the joint,predicting wear and potential failure whilst minimising test *** wear simulation can be sensitive to envi-ronmental conditions;the environment temperature is one variable which should be controlled and was the focus of this *** this study,the wear of an all‐polymer(PEEK‐OPTImA™polymer‐on‐UHmWPE)total knee replacement and a conventional cobalt chrome‐on‐UHmWPE implant of similar initial surface topography and geometry were investigated under elevated temperature *** wear was compared to a previous study of the same implants under simulator running temperature(*** heating the test environment).Under elevated temperature conditions,the wear rate of the UHmWPE tibial inserts was low against both femoral component materials(meanmm3/million cycles)and significantly lower(pr investigations at simulator running *** precipitation from the lubricant onto the component articulating surfaces is a possible explanation for the lower *** study highlights the need to understand the influence of different variables including envi-ronmental temperature to minimise the test artefacts during wear simulation which may affect the wear rates.

Computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulations of multi-lobe progressive cavity(PC)pumps are limited in the literature due to the geometric complexity of the pump,which places numerous restrictions on the grid generation *** present study attempts to alleviate such restrictions by developing a detailed numerical procedure for the numerical simulations of multi-lobe progressive cavity *** profile equations for the multi-lobe configuration at any section at each instant of rotation are presented.A structured grid generation method is developed to generate mesh files required for CFD simulations of multi-lobe PC *** from the present procedure are validated against single-lobe PC pump numerical results available in the ***,a numerical parametric study is carried out to investigate the effect of the number of lobes,the stator pitch,the circular fillet and clearance on the volumetric efficiency of PC pumps with viscous oils.

The atmosphere protects humans, plants, ani- mals, and microorganisms from damaging doses of ultra- violet-B （UVB） solar radiation （280-320 nm） because it modifies the UVB reaching the Earth＇s surface. This modification is a function of the solar radiation＇s path length through the atmosphere and the amount of each attenuator along the path length. The path length is deter- mined by solar zenith angle （SZA）. The present work ex- plains the dependence of hemispherical transmittance of UVB on SZA. The database used consists of five years of hourly UVB and global solar radiation measurements. From 2001 to 2005, the South Valley University （SVU） meteorological research station （26.20°N, 32.75°E） car- ried out these measurements on a horizontal surface. In addition, the corresponding extraterrestrial UVB （UVBe^d and broadband solar radiation （Gext） were estimated. Consequently, the hemispherical transmittance of UVB （KtuvB） and the hemispherical transmittance of global solar radiation （Kt） were estimated. Furthermore, the UVB redaction due to the atmosphere was evaluated. An analy- sis of the dependence between KtuvB and SZA at different ranges of Kt was performed. A functional dependence between KtuvB and SZA （KtuvB=-a（SZA）＋b） for very narrow Kt-ranges （width of ranges was 0.01） was devel- oped. The results are discussed, and the sensitivity of AKtuvB to △SZA for very narrow Kt-ranges was studied. It was found that the sensitivity of △KtUVB to ASZA slightly increases with increased Kt, which means KtuvB is sensi- tive to SZA as Kt increases. The maximum correlation （r） between KtuvB and SZA was equal to -0.83 for Kt= 0.76.

Background The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically increased demands on healthcare workers(HCWs)leaving them vulnerable to acute psychological distress,burnout and post-traumatic *** response,supportive services in a central London hospital mobilised mental health support specifically for *** This rapid evaluation assessed HCW psychological welfare during the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic and their use of supportive services made *** During the acute phase of COVID-19(April to may 2020)all staff working for the hospital were invited to complete an online survey assessing well-being(self-rated health,moral distress exposure,symptoms of burnout and psychological distress)and use of available supportive services(awareness of,use and perceived helpfulness).Associations among personal characteristics and psychological well-being were explored using correlations and linear *** A total of 1127 staff participated in the rapid *** average,psychological distress was high(mean(SD):22(7.57))regardless of role,with 84%of this sample scoring above the general population mean(14.5).Nearly half of the sample reported feeling emotionally drained and a profile emerged displaying higher levels of psychological distress and burnout in those who were younger and exposed to morally distressing situations,with this group also exhibiting greater support service *** levels of burnout were associated with increased psychological distress when controlling for personal *** this acute phase of the pandemic,majority of staff used at least one service and rated it as *** HCWs experienced high levels of psychological distress requiring continued support as the COVID-19 pandemic *** HCWs were aware of supportive services,uptake *** order to mitigate the risk of burnout and post-traumatic stress,long-term,effective strategies that facilitate staff accessing support are urgently required.

We conducted a two-factor experiment in randomized complete block design with four replications during 2004 in El Demokeya Forest reserve and El Himaira Natural Forest, North Kordofan State, Sudan. The objective was to develop an understanding of the ecological effects of under-story vegetation and tapping date on the productivity of gum arabic from Acacia senegal as over story cover. The first factor was grass cover which was tested in four levels （100% and 50% grass cover in addition to bare and burnt）. The second factor, date of tapping was tested in three levels namely （1st Oct, 15th Oct and 1st Nov）. The first picking was done after 45 days from tapping and the gum yield up to seven pickings was collected at intervals of 15 days. Gum yield from each picking was collected and weighed using sensitive balance. Analysis of variance was carried out using mSTAT-C statistical package, and the Tukey test was applied for mean comparisons. The results showed highly significant differences （p 〈 0.01） of grass cover on gum arabic yield in the two sites for most of the first consecutive pickings （1st–4th out of seven） in addition to total yield （kg/ha）. With exception to the 4th pickings, the interaction effect between the grass densities and tapping date was not significantly different. The total gum yield was significantly （p 〈 0.05） increased in only two pickings （third and fourth） in El Demokeya Forest reserve and two pickings （1st and 2nd） at El Himaira Natural Forest. The density of grass cover significantly （p 〈 0.05） affected the number of pickings at both sites; the number of gum pickings was directly proportional to grass density. The number of gum pickings was found to be significantly （p 〈 0.05） increased at the early date of tapping.
