Background:Schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminths(STHs)contribute high disease burdens amongst the neglected tropical diseases(NTDs)and are public health problems in *** study reports the prevalence,intensity and risk factors for schistosomiasis and STH infection in Huambo,Uige and Zaire provinces,Angola,to inform a school-based preventive chemotherapy ***:A two-stage cluster design was used to select schools and schoolchildren to participate in parasitological and water,sanitation and hygiene(wASH)surveys across Huambo,Uige,and Zaire ***-of-care circulating cathodic antigen and urinalysis rapid diagnostic tests(RDTs)were used to determine the prevalence of Schistosoma mansoni and ***,***-Katz was used to identify and quantify STH species and quantify and compare with RDTs for *** filtration was used to quantify and compare with RDTs for *** statistics were used for prevalence and infection intensity of schistosomiasis and STH *** of RDTs was assessed through specificity and Cohen’s Kappa agreement with microscopy.A multivariate regression analysis was used to determine demographic and wASH factors associated with schistosomiasis and STH ***:A total 575 schools and 17,093 schoolchildren participated in the schistosomiasis survey,of which 121 schools and 3649 schoolchildren participated in the STH *** prevalence of *** was 21.2%(municipality range 0.9–74.8%)and *** 13.6%(range 0–31.2%),with an overall prevalence of schistosomiasis of 31.4%(range 5.9–77.3%).Overall prevalence of Ascaris lumbricoides was 25.1%(range 0–89.7%),hookworm 5.2%(range 0–42.6%),and Trichuris trichiura 3.6%(range 0–24.2%),with an overall prevalence of STH infection of 29.5%(range 0.8–89.7%).Ecological zone and ethnicity were factors associated with schistosomiasis and STH infection,with older age and female sex additional risk factors for S

Experimental and analytical investigation on friction resistance force between buried coated pressurized steel pipes and soil

This paper presents an analytical approach for estimating frictional resistance to pipe movement at soil and external pipe surface of buried coated pressurized steel pipes relative to the internal thrust *** proposed analytical method was developed based on 36 experiments,which involved three coating types(cement mortar(CM),polyurethane type-I(PT-I),prefabricated plastic tape(PPT))on pipes’surfaces,three different soils(pea-gravel(PG),sand(S),silty-clay(SC)),and four simulated over burden depths above the pipe’s *** showed frictional resistance decreased with increasing over burden depth above the pipe’s *** degree of frictional resistance at the pipe-soil interface was found to be in the order of PG>SC>S for all coating variations and overburden *** coated pipe buried in all three types of soil produced significantly higher frictional resistance as compared to other coating *** on experimental data,the developed analytical introduced a dimensionless factor“Z”,which included effects of types of coatings,soil,and overburden depths for simplified rapid *** showed that the method provided a better prediction of frictional resistance forces,in comparison to previous analytical methods,which were barely close in predicting friction resistance for different coating variations,soil types,and overburden *** resistance force values reported herein could be considered conservative.

Determining minimum sample size for the conditioned Latin hypercube sampling algorithm

In digital soil mapping(DSM),a fundamental assumption is that the spatial variability of the target variable can be explained by the predictors or environmental *** to adequately sample the predictors have been well documented,with the conditioned Latin hypercube sampling(cLHS)algorithm receiving the most attention in the DSM *** advances in sampling design,a critical gap remains in determining the number of samples required for DSM *** propose a simple workflow and function coded in R language to determine the minimum sample size for the cLHS algorithm based on histograms of the predictor variables using the Freedman-Diaconis rule for determining optimal bin *** preprocessing was included to correct for multimodal and non-normally distributed data,as these can affect sample size determination from the *** on a user-selected quantile range(QR)for the sample plan,the densities of the histogram bins at the upper and lower bounds of the QR were used as a scaling factor to determine minimum sample *** technique was applied to a field-scale set of environmental covariates for a well-sampled agricultural study site near Guelph,Ontario,Canada,and tested across a range of *** results showed increasing minimum sample size with an increase in the QR *** sample size increased from 44 to 83 when the QR increased from 50% to 95% and then increased exponentially to 194 for the 99%*** technique provides an estimate of minimum sample size that can be used as an input to the cLHS algorithm.

Hepatic vein reconstruction during hepatectomy:A feasible and underused technique

Superplasticity of fine-grained Mg-10Li alloy prepared by severe plastic deformation and understanding its deformation mechanisms

The superplastic behavior and associated deformation mechanisms of a fine-grained Mg-10.1 Li-0.8Al-0.6Zn alloy(LAZ1011)with a grain size of 3.2μm,primarily composed of the BCCβphase and a small amount of the HCPαphase,were examined in a temperature range of 473 K to 623 *** microstructural refinement of this alloy was achieved by employing high-ratio differential speed *** best superplasticity was achieved at 523 K and at strain rates of 10^(-4)-5×10^(-4)s^(-1),where tensile elongations of 550±600%were *** the heating and holding stage of the tensile samples prior to tensile loading,a significant increase in grain size was observed at temperatures above 573 ***,it was important to consider this effect when analyzing and understanding the superplastic deformation behavior and *** the investigated strain rate range,the superplastic flow at low strain rates was governed by lattice diffusion-controlled grain boundary sliding,while at high strain rates,lattice diffusion-controlled dislocation climb creep was the rate-controlling deformation *** was concluded that solute drag creep is unlikely to *** the late stages of deformation at 523 K,it was observed that grain boundary sliding led to the agglomeration of theαphase,resulting in significant strain *** mechanism maps were constructed forβ-Mg-Li alloys in the form of 2D and 3D formats as a function of strain rate,stress,temperature,and grain size,using the constitutive equations for various deformation mechanisms derived based on the data of the current tests.
