Expanding roles for pectins in plant development

Pectins are complex cell wall polysaccharides important for many aspects of plant development. Recent studies have discovered extensive physical interactions between pectins and other cell wall components,implicating pectins in new molecular functions. Pectins are often localized in spatially-restricted patterns, and some of these non-uniform pectin distributions contribute to multiple aspects of plant development, including the morphogenesis of cells and organs. Furthermore, a growing number of mutants affecting cell wall composi- tion have begun to reveal the distinct contributions of different pectins to plant development. This review discusses the interactions of pectins with other cell wall components, the functions of pectins in controlling cellular morphology, and how non-uniform pectin composition can be an important determinant of developmental processes.

We propose a scheme to construct predictive models for Hamiltonian matrices in atomic orbital representation from ab initio data as a function of atomic and bond *** scheme goes beyond conventional tight binding descriptions as it represents the ab initio model to full order,rather than in two-centre or three-centre *** achieve this by introducing an extension to the atomic cluster expansion(ACE)descriptor that represents Hamiltonian matrix blocks that transform equivariantly with respect to the full rotation *** approach produces analytical linear models for the Hamiltonian and overlap *** an application to aluminium,we demonstrate that it is possible to train models from a handful of structures computed with density functional theory,and apply them to produce accurate predictions for the electronic *** model generalises well and is able to predict defects accurately from only bulk training data.

We introduce the concept of Canonical Workflow Building Blocks(CWBB),a methodology of describing and wrapping computational tools,in order for them to be utilised in a reproducible manner from multiple workflow languages and execution *** concept is implemented and demonstrated with the BioExcel Building Blocks library(BioBB),a collection of tool wrappers in the field of computational biomolecular *** across different workflow languages is showcased through a protein Molecular Dynamics setup transversal workflow,built using this library and run with 5 different Workflow Manager Systems(WfMS).We argue such practice is a necessary requirement for FAIR Computational Workflows and an element of Canonical Workflow Frameworks for Research(CWFR)in order to improve widespread adoption and reuse of computational methods across workflow language barriers.

Purpose As players in high performance youth soccer(HYPS)environments undergo large changes in growth and matura-tion throughout the course of their development,they require specific nutritional intakes if they are to meet these *** purpose of this review was to synthesise current nutritional research conducted within HYPS *** A systematic approach,following PRISMA guidelines,was employed to capture all articles related to nutrition within HPYS using the databases MEDLINE and *** quality and risk of bias were assessed using a Downs and Black *** and intervention studies which investigated an element of nutritional status,knowledge,or intervention in academy aged players(U9 to U23s)within HPYS settings were *** Fifty-three articles qualified assessing:current nutritional intake and energy balance(n=21);ergogenic aids/sup-plements(n=13);hydration status(n=6);the influence of Ramadan fasting(n=4);Vitamin D status(n=4);female HPYS players(n=3);nutrition knowledge(n=2).Outcomes demonstrate a large proportion of HPYS players exhibit insufficient energy and carbohydrate intake,and a lack sufficient periodisation of nutrition to account for varying training/match *** variability in energy intake and expenditure exists between and within chronological age groups,indicating the potential impact on growth and *** HPYS data is lacking but indicates similar trends to male *** HYPS players do not currently meet their energy requirements however the impact of growth and maturation is not fully ***,within this demographic future research is required into the barriers and enablers of players achieving adequate energy intake.

Prepulse inhibition （PPI） of the startle response is a psychophysiological measure of sensorimotor gating believed to be cross-modal between different sensory systems. We analyzed the tactile startle response （TSR） and PPI of TSR （tPPI）, using light as a prepulse stimulus, in the mouse strains A/J and C57BL/6J and 36 recombinant congenic strains derived from them. Parental strains were significantly different for TSR, but were comparable for tPPI. Among the congenic strains, variation for TSR was significant in both genetic backgrounds, but that of tPPI was significant only for the C57BL/6J background. Provisional mapping for loci modulating TSR and tPPI was carried out. Using mapping data from our previous study on acoustic startle responses （ASR） and PPI of ASR （aPPI）, no common markers for aPPI and tPPI were identified. However, some markers were significantly associated with both ASR and TSR, at least in one genetic background. These results indicate cross-modal genetic regulation for the startle response but not for PPI, in these mouse strains.
