Strain development along radial direction was continuously determined by D-200 Linear Variable Differential Transformers (L.V.D.T). When a wood specimen was put into water and begin to swell from absolute dry moisture content to the maximum. Experiment results show that the differences of swelling with soaking time between untreated and treated wood specimens due to uptaking water. It would also give an indication to the effectiveness of various chemicals on the dimensional stability of modified wood. ASE of modified wood samples with SA-EP, EP and SA were found to be better than MA-AgE. SA-EP had got the best effetivencss on dimensional stability in reducing the swelling.

There is ample clinical evidence suggesting that the presence of large axial or paraesophageal hernias may lead to iron deficiency ***-called Cameron lesions,as well as other small mucosa erosions,in the sliding area of these diaphragmatic hernias lead to invisible chronic blood loss and consequently to iron *** the spectrum of symptoms in these patients is large,anemia is often not the only indication and typically not the primary indication for surgical correction of diaphragmatic *** treatment with proton pump inhibitors and iron substitution can alleviate anemia,but this is not always *** exclude other possible bleeding sources in the gastrointestinal tract,a comprehensive diagnostic program is necessary and reviewed in this ***,we discuss controversies in the surgical management of paraesophageal hernias.

BACKgROUND Management of single small hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is straightforward with curative outcomes achieved by locoregional therapy or *** transplantation is often considered for multiple small or single large *** of two small HCC whether presenting synchronously or sequentially is less *** To define the outcomes of patients presenting with two small *** Retrospective review of HCC databases from multiple institutions of patients with either two synchronous or sequential HCC≤3 cm between January 2000 and March *** outcomes were overall survival(OS)and transplant-free survival(TFS).RESULTS 104 patients were identified(male n=89).Median age was 63 years(interquartile range 58-67.75)and the most common aetiology of liver disease was hepatitis C(40.4%).59(56.7%)had synchronous HCC and 45(43.3%)had sequential.36 patients died(34.6%)and 25 were transplanted(24.0%).1,3 and 5-year OS was 93.0%,66.1% and 62.3% and 5-year post-transplant survival was 95.8%.1,3 and 5-year TFS was 82.1%,45.85% and 37.8%.When synchronous and sequential groups were compared,OS(1,3 and 5 year synchronous 91.3%,63.8%,61.1%,sequential 95.3%,69.5%,64.6%,P=0.41)was similar but TFS was higher in the sequential group(1,3 and 5 year synchronous 68.5%,37.3% and 29.7%,sequential 93.2%,56.6%,48.5%,P=0.02)though this difference did not remain during multivariate *** TFS in patients presenting with two HCC≤3 cm is poor regardless of the timing of the second *** patients presenting with two small HCC should be considered for transplantation.

Breast cancer is the leading cause for mortality among women *** of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes is the major reason for the cause of *** these genes will provide clues and insights about their regulatory mechanism and their interplay in *** the present study,an attempt is made to compare the functional characteristics and interactions of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes to understand their biological role.431 breast cancer samples from seven publicly available microarray datasets were collected and analysed using gEO2R *** identified 416 differentially expressed genes were classified into five gene sets as oncogenes(Og),tumor suppressor genes(TSg),druggable genes,essential genes and other *** gene sets were subjected to various analysis such as enrichment analysis(viz.,gO,Pathways,Diseases and Drugs),network analysis,calculation of mutation frequencies and guanine-Cytosine(gC)*** the results,it was observed that the Og were having high gC content as well as high interactions than ***,the Og are found to have frequent mutations than *** enrichment analysis results suggest that the oncogenes are involved in positive regulation of cellular protein metabolic process,macromolecule biosynthetic process and majorly in cell cycle and focal adhesion pathway in *** was also found that these oncogenes are involved in other diseases such as skin diseases and viral ***,paclitaxel and docetaxel are some of the drugs found to be enriched for oncogenes.

Seroprevalence of varicella zoster virus in Colombo district, Sri Lanka

Objective: To determine the seroprevalence of varicella zoster virus(VZV) antibodies among the population residing in the Colombo district of Sri Lanka. Methods: A cross-sectional population-based study was conducted which included 1 258 participants. Blood samples were collected and questionnaires administered to obtain sociodemographic information and history of varicella and/or herpes zoster. Serum samples were assayed for VZV Igg antibodies using a commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit. Results: Overall, the seroprevalence was 54.2%(95% CI= 51.5% 57.0%). Children below 1 year of age were seronegative, and only about 20.0% of children between 1 and 10 years of age were seropositive. Seropositivitiy increased with age and by the age of 40 years 74.3% were seropositive. Among women of childbearing age, the overall seroprevalence was about 62.0%(95% CI = 57.7%-66.1%) but was low 37.0% in the 15-19 age group. Conclusion: In this population, 45.8% lacked natural immunity against varicella. Of women of childbearing age, 39.9% lacked immunity and in the subgroup of women 15-19 years of age, 63.0% women lacked immunity. In light of the country's success with the control and high coverage of other vaccine preventable diseases and that the vaccine is available in the private sector, the inclusion of varicella vaccine in the national immunization program may be considered.
