The fruits of the Sea buckthorn(Hippophae rhamnoides L.)are a popular plant food and a valuable health *** plants produces a lot of leaves with fine branches as an unnecessary residue,which needs *** aim of the study was to estimate(by HPLC-MS/MS)the qualitative and quantitative content of polyphenolic compounds in different parts of ***(HR),and to determine the level of antioxidant activity of leaves and fruits(by DPPH,ABTS methods and ferrozine test).Up to 19 compounds were identified in different parts of *** fruits are rich in flavonoids,including various glycosides of flavonols isorhamnetin,quercetin,and *** isorhamnetin glycosides were not identified in the leaves,while isorhamnetin-3-rhamnosylglactosides and the ellagitannins hippophaenin B,stachyurin and casuarinin were present only in the leaves of the *** bark and roots contained considerably more catechins,but minimal flavonols than the fruits and leaves of *** total phenolics and flavonols were most abundant in water infusions from leaves of HR(especially quercetin-3-O-glucoside-7-O-rhamnoside),compared to methanolic *** significant differences in the quantitative and qualitative content of the fresh and dried leaves were *** highest antioxidant activity by all three methods was detected in the leaves of *** addition to the fruits,the leaves may have a perspective as a source of biologically active substances of HR.

Movement behaviors and their association with depressive symptoms in Brazilian adolescents:A cross-sectional study

Background:Physical activity,sleep,and sedentary behaviors compose 24-h movement behaviors and have been independently associated with depressive ***,it is not clear whether it is the movement behavior itself or other contextual factors that are related to depressive *** objective of the present study was to examine the associations between self-reported and accelerometer-measured movement behaviors and depressive symptoms in ***:Cross-sectional data from 610 adolescents(14-18 years old)were *** answered questions from the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale and reported time spent watching videos,playing videogames,using social media,time spent in various physical activities,and daytime ***-worn accelerometers were used to measure sleep duration,sleep efficiency,sedentary time,and physical ***-effects logistic regressions were ***:Almost half of the adolescents(48%)were classified as being at high risk for depression(score≥20).No significant associations were found between depressive symptoms and accelerometer-measured movement behaviors,self-reported non-sport physical activity,watching videos,and playing ***,higher levels of self-reported total physical activity(odd ratio(OR)=0.92,95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.86-0.98)and volume of sports(OR=0.88,95%CI:0.79-0.97),in minutes,were associated with a lower risk of depression,while using social media for either 2.0-3.9 h/day(OR=1.77,95%CI:1.58-2.70)or>3.9 h/day(OR=1.67,95%CI:1.10-2.54),as well as higher levels of daytime sleepiness(OR=1.17,95%CI:1.12-1.22),were associated with a higher risk of ***:What adolescents do when they are active or sedentary may be more important than the time spent in the movement behaviors because it relates to depressive *** daytime sleepiness,promoting sports,and limiting social media use may benefit adolescents.

Post-acute care(PAC)residents in nursing homes(NHs)are recently hospitalized patients with medically complex diagnoses,ranging from severe orthopedic injuries to cardiovascular diseases.A major role of NHs is to maximize restoration of PAC residents during their NH stays with desirable discharge outcomes,such as higher community discharge likelihood and lower re/hospitalization *** prediction of the PAC residents’length-of-stay(LOS)with multiple discharge dispositions(e.g.,community discharge and re/hospitalization)will allow NH management groups to stratify NH residents based on their individualized risk in realizing personalized and resident-centered NH care *** to the highly heterogeneous health conditions of PAC residents and their multiple types of correlated discharge dispositions,developing an accurate prediction model becomes *** predictive analytics methods,such as distribution-/regression-based methods and machine learning methods,either fail to incorporate varied individual characteristics comprehensively or ignore multiple discharge *** this work,a data-driven predictive analytics approach is considered to jointly predict the individualized re/hospitalization risk and community discharge likelihood over time in the presence of varied residents’characteristics.A sampling algorithm is further developed to generate accurate predictive samples for a heterogeneous population of PAC residents in an NH and facilitate facility-level performance evaluation.A real case study using large-scale NH data is provided to demonstrate the superior prediction performance of the proposed work at individual and facility levels through comprehensive comparison with a large number of existing prediction methods as *** developed analytics tools will allow NH management groups to identify the most at-risk residents by providing them with more proactive and focused care to improve resident outcomes.

Bee dietary preferences,or the floral resources that they consistently collect,likely impact where a species can *** this reason it is likely that bee dietary preferences are dependent upon the composition of the plant *** this study,we evaluated floral visits and pollen loads of the mining bee,Andrena angustitarsata Viereck,across a 630 km north-south range to understand dietary preferences along a floral resource *** research,in a more geographically limited area,suggested this species was an eclectic oligolege on predominantly Apiaceae and in part *** the present study we found the species predominately visited and collected pollen from Apiaceae and Rosaceae,but visited 12 flower families and collected pollen from 32,distinguishing them as generalist *** frequency of Apiaceae pollen on the bees and the species-level specialization index(a measure of visit specialization)were higher in regions with higher Apiaceae *** addition Apiaceae and Rosaceae were the only plant families significantly preferred for pollen collection,regardless of floral *** conclude that across our study region *** has a generalist dietary breadth,but also has dietary preference for Apiaceae and *** study indicates that while bees may overall make generalist foraging decisions they may still prefer and likely benefit from selecting fewer flower taxa.

The Department of Energy (DOE) has one of the largest environmental remediation tasks in the world, cleaning up the radiologic and toxic contamination legacy of nuclear weapons production. DOE has committed itself to accomplish remediation “while protecting human health and the environment”. Many DOE sites are huge, encompassing habitats that are ecologically valuable because they have been protected from human disturbance for 70 years or more. Yet information on the importance of DOE lands for protecting specific ecological resources is often buried in volumes of data. In this paper, we examine the importance of DOE lands as habitats for birds using two sites as examples: the Hanford Site and Oak Ridge Reservation. Our overall goal was to provide a model for communication of key information useful for the public and decision-makers. Birds are conspicuous and familiar features of the landscape, and bird populations are important indicators of habitat quality. As future land use plans evolve, birds can convey important messages about habitat uniqueness and conservation importance and recreational values of designating DOE land for conservation, but only if they are in accessible formats. At the semi-arid Hanford site, shrub-steppe is an important habitat outside the Columbia River corridor. At the wet Oak Ridge Reservation eastern deciduous forest, interior forest is a particularly important habitat. There are different groups of bird species dependent on each habitat. We use two methods for each habitat: 1) a comparison of historical written records and 2) a comparison of land use/land cover data. Habitat loss through development, fragmentation, and degradation is one of the most important causes of avian decline. Importantly, we present the data in a manner suitable for discussion among diverse audiences regarding future use of sites now undergoing remediation. Does Chitosan Extend the Shelf Life of Fruits?

The use of hazardous formalin in increasing shelf life of fruits and protecting them from microbial decay by unscrupulous traders is a big health concern for the consumers in Bangladesh. Chitosan is a natural biopolymer produced from the exoskeletons of shrimp and crab, which slows antimicrobial activities and induces immunity of plants against microbial pests. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of chitosan on the shelf life extension of some local ripened fruits compared to untreated control. Three doses of chitosan solution viz. 0, 500 and 1000 ppm were sprayed in alternate day on banana (cvs. Shabri and Champa), strawberry, tomato, and oranges. It revealed that chitosan extended shelf life of all fruits by delaying the decay;however, level of protection varied in different kinds of fruits as well as in doses of the chitosan used. Among the tested fruits, decay of tomatoes was most delayed by chitosan. Spraying of both 500 and 1000 ppm of chitosan equally protected 100% decay in tomatoes until 8 days of treatments at room temperature. More than 80% protection of other fruits viz. banana, orange and strawberries by chitosan were recorded at 8, 8 and 4 day after treatment, respectively, which were remarkably higher than the untreated control. Interestingly, 500 ppm of chitosan spray gave better protection than 1000 ppm in all the tested fruits. These results suggest that lower doses of chitosan can be utilized as a natural preservative of fruits alternative to hazardous formalin. A further study with higher number of fruits, and at varying temperature and chitosan doses are needed for recommending it for practical application as a fruit preservative.

Cell-laden cardiac patches have recently been emerging to renew cellular sources for myocardial infarction(MI,commonly know as a heart attack)***,the fabrication of cell-laden patches with porous structure remains challenging due to the limitations of currently available hydrogels and existing processing *** present study utilized a bioprinting technique to fabricate hydrogel patches and characterize them in terms of printability,mechanical and biological ***-laden hydrogel(or bio-ink)was formulated from alginate dialdehyde(ADA)and gelatin(gEL)to improve the printability,degradability as well as *** groups of hydrogel compositions were designed to investigate the influence of the oxidation degree of ADA and hydrogels concentration on the properties of printed ***-gEL hydrogels have generally shown favorable for living cells(***926 cells and hybrid human umbilical vein endothelial cell line).The hydrogel with an oxidation degree of 10%and a concentration ratio of 70/30(or 10%ADA70-gEL30)demonstrated the best printability among the groups *** hydrogels were also bioprinted with the living cells(***926),and the scaffolds printed were then subject to the cell culture for 7 *** results illustrate that the scaffolds bioprinted from 10%ADA70–gEL30 hydrogels had the best homogenous cell distribution and also the highest cell *** together,in the present study we synthesized a newly formulated bio-ink from ADA and gEL and for the fist time,used them to bioprint cardiac patches,which have the potential to be used in MI repair.

This case is of a 20-year-old male intercol-legiate basketball player(height:198.1cm;mass: 97.52kg)who sustained a luxated patella during pre-season workouts resulting in a torn medial patellofemoral ligament(MPFL).Due to the timing and nature of the injury,the athlete chose a non-surgical-approach because he wanted to attempt to rehabilitate and return to *** case is unique as it combines a MCL sprain,patellar dislocation,repetitive subluxations and setbacks,and eventual surgery,plus the athletes' desire to compete and finish the *** athletic trainer,in conjunction with the team physician,developed an aggressive rehabilitation approach to allow the athlete to return as quickly and safely as *** to allow a return to sports participation followed by surgery and post operative therapy proved beneficial to this athlete.
