Pneumocystis spp. infect the lungs of multiple mammalian species and cause disease in immunosuppressed individuals. The Pneumocystis isolates that have been studied to date fall into two major clades, those from primates and those from rodents. Within each of these clades, different species have been described on the basis of host specificity and differences in sequence and morphology. Here, we demonstrate that dexamethasone immunosuppression consistently results in histologically apparent lung infection in gerbils (28/35 animals). Sequence analysis of the 18S, 5.8S and internal transcribed spacer regions of the rdNA and a portion of the mitochondrial large subunit rdNA demonstrated that this gerbil Pneumocystis is grouped with other rodent Pneumocystis spp., but is distinct from them. Our results suggest that gerbil Pneumocystis differs sufficiently from Pneumocystis species found in other rodents to be considered a separate species.

BACKGROUNd: Suspension trauma syndrome is a life-threatening event that occurs when a person is "trapped" in a prolonged passive suspension. It is most commonly seen in people who engage in occupational or sport activities that require harness suspension. The aim of this study is to identify the predisposing factors, pathophysiology, and management of suspension ***: A review and analysis of the literature published in English and Spanish from 1972 to 2020 on suspension trauma were performed. Search sources were Pub Med, Medline, Cochrane Library, MeSH, Up To date, and Google Scholar. Articles referring to suspension trauma associated with other injury mechanisms(traumatic impact injuries, drowning, asphyxiation, or bleeding), case reports, and pediatric population were ***: Forty-one articles were identified. Of these, 29 articles related to mechanism, pathophysiology, and management of individuals who suffered prolonged suspension trauma without associated traumatic injuries were included in the study. We encountered several controversies describing the putative pathophysiology, ranging from blood sequestration in the lower extremities versus accumulation of metabolic waste and hyperkalemia to dorsal hook-type harness as a trigger cause of positional asphyxia;to vascular compression of femoral vessels exerted by the harness causing decreased venous return. Pstients suspended in a full-body harness with dorsal hook showed more hemodynamic alterations in response to the compressive effect on the rib cage, causing a reduction in perfusion by presenting a decrease in pulse pressure. Management strategies varied across ***: Progress has been made in individualizing the population at risk and in the management of suspension trauma. We recommend the formation of consensus definitions, larger cohort or registry studies to be conducted, and experimental animal models to better understand the mechanisms in order to develop management

We present experimental investigations and numerical simulations of a pseudo-2d riser. Experiments were performed for various airflow rates, particle types/diameters, and particle size distributions. Pres- sure distributions along the wall of the riser were measured, Additional measurements from a smaller pseudo-2d riser （Kallio et al., 2009; Shah et al., 2012） were used to analyze horizontal solids volume fraction profiles. The experimental data were compared with simulation results carried out using an Euler-Euler approach, A mesh sensitivity study was conducted for numerical simulations and effects associated with simplifying real 3d geometry to a 2d model were examined. In addition, the effect of using an algebraic equation to represent the granular temperature versus a full partial differential equation also was examined for numerical simulations. Results showed small but significant near-wall sensitivity of the flow variables to mesh size. Substantial differences in mean pressure, solids distribution, and solid velocities were obtained, when 2d and 3d simulation results were compared. Finally, applying the simplified granular temperature equation for turbulent fluidization and for dilute-phase transport can lead to incorrect predictions in models,

ATP-binding cassette（ABC） transporters ABCC1（MRP1）,ABCB1（P-gp）,and ABCG2（BCRP） contribute to chemotherapy *** primary goals of this study were to characterize the efficacy and mechanism of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug（NSAId）,sulindac sulfide,to reverse ABCC1 mediated resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs and to determine if sulindac sulfide can influence sensitivity to chemotherapeutic drugs independently of drug *** assays were performed to measure resistance of ABC-expressing cell lines to doxorubicin and other chemotherapeutic *** were tested for the ability to restore sensitivity to resistance selected tumor cell lines,as well as a large panel of standard tumor cell *** experiments characterized the mechanism by which sulindac sulfide inhibits ABCC1 substrate and co-substrate（GSH） transport in isolated membrane vesicles and intact *** reversal of multi-drug resistance（MdR）,decreased efflux of doxorubicin,and fluorescent substrates were demonstrated by sulindac sulfide and a related NSAId,indomethacin,in resistance selected and engineered cell lines expressing ABCC 1,but not ABCB 1 or *** sulfide also inhibited transport of leukotriene C_4 into membrane *** sulfide enhanced the sensitivity to doxorubicin in 24 of 47 tumor cell lines,including all melanoma lines tested（7-7）.Sulindac sulfide also decreased intracellular GSH in ABCC1 expressing cells,while the glutathione synthesis inhibitor,BSO,selectively increased sensitivity to sulindac sulfide induced *** sulfide potently and selectively reverses ABCC1-mediated MdR at clinically achievable ***1 expressing tumors may be highly sensitive to the direct cytotoxicity of sulindac sulfide,and in combination with chemotherapeutic drugs that induce oxidative stress.

A self-heating intensity index(SHII)based on the highest(pixel max.)and lowest(pixel min.)values taken from satellite thermal maps of burning coal waste dumps are *** index enables the classification of such fires in Ukrainian-and Polish coal waste *** in Ukraine and in Poland,varying thermal intensities during 1985–2019 are revealed,using the SHII and following thermal intensity threshold values,namely,extreme thermal activity([7),advanced(3–7),moderate(3–1.5),initial(1.5–1),no activity(decreasing thermal activity in the selected Ukrainian coal waste dumps during 2017–*** aids in reconstructing the thermal history of the *** of satellite images revealed a large number of burning coal waste dumps in the donetsk Coal Basin(Ukraine)with high thermal *** burning likely reflects large amounts of organic matter and sulphides in the dumped material subjected to self-heating and self-burning processes,lack of compaction of the coal waste and/or high methane *** of SHII values calculated from satellite-and drone thermal-camera images were compared to show that SHII from drone thermal images have much higher values than those from satellite images;the former have better ***,SHII from Landsat-and drone images should be used separately in dump heating studies.

AIM:To evaluate the use of the Roux loop on the postoperative course in patients submitted for gastroenteroanastomosis(GE).METHOdS:Non-jaundiced patients(n=41)operated on in the department of General and Transplant Surgery in Lodz,between January 2010 and december 2011 were *** tumor was considered unresectable when liver metastases or major vascular involvement were *** were randomized to receive Roux(n=21)or conventional GE(n=20)on a prophylactic ***:The mean time to nasogastric tube withdrawal in Roux GE group was shorter(1.4±0.75 vs2.8±1.1,Pds,soft diet and regular diet were decreased(2.3±0.86 vs 3.45±1.19;Pd 4.5±0.76 vs 5.6±1.42,P=0.002;respectively).The Roux GE group had a lower use of prokinetics(10mg thrice daily for 2.2±1.8 d vs 3.7±2.6 d,P=0.044;total 62±49 mg vs 111±79 mg,P=0.025).The mean hospitalization time following Roux GE was shorter(7.7 d vs 9.6 d,P=0.006).delayed gastric emptying(dGE)was confirmed in 20%after conventional GE but in none of the patients following Roux ***:Roux gastrojejunostomy during open abdomen exploration in patients with unresectable pancreatic cancer is easy to perform,decreases the incidence of dGE and lowers hospitalization time.
