The Birth on a Scarred Uterus at the Reference Health Center (csref) of Kolondiéba: Socio-Epidemiological and Maternel-Fetal Prognosis Aspect

Introduction: Childbirth on a scarred uterus is a major issue for health centers, especially peripheral, due to the major obstetric risks it presents. The objectives were to evaluate the frequency, route of delivery and maternal-fetal prognosis of this type of delivery at csref of Kolondiéba. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective cross-sectional study for one year (1 January 2023-31 December 2023). All patients admitted to the maternity ward of the center with at least one uterine scar and treated in the center were included. We extracted data from partograms, OR records, birth records and obstetric records. Input was done on Excel 2010 and analysis on SPSS.23. Results: The frequency of scarring uterus was 16.8% (217/1285 births). The average age was 27. Pauciparous were most represented (59%). Patients were received from community health centers (44.7%). Prenatal consultation sessions (1 - 3 sessions) were performed at (64.9%). Uterine scars were obstetric in (99%). The cesarean section was performed immediately in (59.4%), it was prophylactic in 17%. The uterine test was attempted in (25.34%) with (69%) success. We recorded 3.6% uterine ruptures, 8.7% postoperative complications, 5.5% stillbirths and one maternal death (0.46%). Conclusion: Births on a scarred uterus are frequent and associated with a high rate of complications.

Evaluating Pavement Performance on Expansive Clay Soils Subjected to Cyclic Shrinkage and Swelling

Expansive soils, prone to being influenced by the environmental conditions, undergo expansion when water is introduced and shrinkage upon drying. This persistent volumetric fluctuation can induce differential movements and result in cracking of structures erected upon them. The present research focuses on characterizing the behavior of pavements erected on expansive clays subjected to swelling and shrinkage cycles. Direct shear tests and oedometer tests were conducted in the laboratory on samples of expansive soils undergoing swelling-shrinkage cycles. The experimental data reveal a significant decrease in shear strength, evidenced by a reduction in shear parameters (internal friction angle, cohesion) and a decrease in the modulus of elasticity as the number of cycles increases. A numerical model based on the finite element method was developed to simulate the behavior of a pavement on an expansive clay substrate. The model results indicate an increase in total displacements with the increase in the number of shrinkage-swelling cycles, demonstrating a progressive degradation of the soil’s mechanical behavior. This study contributes to a better understanding of the complex phenomena governing the behavior of expansive soils and serves as a foundation for developing effective management and mitigation strategies for road infrastructures.

Maize (Zea mays L.) is the world’s leading cereal crop, with production estimated at over 1 billion tonnes in 2022. In Côte d’Ivoire, maize is one of the most widely consumed foods, with national production exceeding 1 million tonnes in 2022. Despite its importance, this crop is subject to numerous biotic constraints, including Maize streak virus (MSV). The objective of this study was to characterize MSV isolates from Côte d’Ivoire using molecular biology techniques. To achieve this, maize leaf samples displaying characteristic symptoms of MSV were collected from different agro-ecological zones (AEZs) of Côte d’Ivoire. Total DNA was extracted from the collected samples using the CTAB method and quantified with a Nanodrop spectrophotometer. The C2 region of the MSV genome’s open reading frame (ORF) was amplified through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using MSV-specific primers. The resulting PCR products were sequenced using the Sanger method. Bioinformatics analysis was performed using MSV sequences from other African countries (retrieved from NCBI) alongside sequences obtained in this study. The analysis was conducted using MEGA X version 10.05 software. The results showed that the main symptoms observed in the field included the presence of longitudinal light green streaks on leaves, stunted plant growth, and incomplete seed development in infected plants. Phylogenetic analysis of the sequences from Côte d’Ivoire revealed three monophyletic groups, with sequences of some isolates collected from the same plot belonging to different groups. The MSV sequences from Côte d’Ivoire are very close to those from Rwanda. This study underscores the need for further investigation into the genetic diversity of MSV strains to enhance the diagnosis and management of this viral disease, which is particularly prevalent in maize crops in Côte d’Ivoire.

Microstructure and Wear Resistance of In situ TiCp Composite Coating by Laser Cladding

A new in situ method was realized by one step laser cladding to produce Ni-base alloy composite coating reinforced by in situ reacted and gradiently distributed TiCp particles. The submicron TiCp particles were formed and uniformly distributed because of the in situ reaction and trapping effect under the rapid solidification condition. And, TiCp particles were of gradient distribution on a macro scale and their volume fraction increased from 1.86% at the layer/substrate interface to a maximum 38.4% at the surface of the layer. Furthermore, the in situ generated TiCp/gamma-Ni interfaces were free from deleterious surface reactions. additionally, the clad coating also revealed a high microhardness of gradient variation with the layer depth and the superior abrasive wear resistance.

Nonequilibrium Microstructures and Phase Evolutions of and Iron-based Laser Clad Coating

The microstructural and compositional features of the laser-solidified microstructures and phase evolutions occurring during high temperature tempering were investigated by using analytical electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis. The cladded alloy, a powder mixture of Fe, Cr, W, Ni and C with a weight ratio of 10:5: 1:1:1, was processed with a 3 kW continuous wave CO2 laser. The cladded coating possessed the hypoeutectic microstructure of the primary dendritic γ-austenite and interdendritic eutectic consisting of (γ+M7C3). The γ-austenite is a nonequilibrium phase with extended solid solution of alloying elements. And, a great deal of fine structures, i.e., a high density ofdislocations,twins,andstackingfaultsexistedinaustenite phase. During high temperature aging,the precipitation of M23C6, MC and M2C in austenite and in situ transformation of M7C3(+γ) → M23C6 and M7C3+7→ M6C occurred. Dynamic Buckling of Laminated Composite Bars Subjected to Axial Impact

The impact buckling of a laminated composite bar is investigated in case of one of its ends moving due to axial impact compression. The governing equations considering the first- order shear deformation effect are derived by the Hamilton principle and solved by the finite difference method. The critical axial shortness is determined by the B - R cirterion. The given example is used to highlight the influences of initial imperfection, impact velocity, stress wave and coupled stiffness. It is found that the unsymmetrically laminated bar has a quite different dynamic buckling behaviour from that of the symmetrically laminated bar.

Hurricane eye morphology extraction from SAR images by texture analysis

Tropical hurricanes are among the most devastating hazards on *** about its intense inner-core structure and dynamics will improve hurricane forecasts and *** precise morphological parameters extracted from high-resolution spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR)images,can play an essential role in further exploring and monitoring hurricane dynamics,especially when hurricanes undergo amplification,shearing,eyewall replacements and so ***,these parameters can help to build guidelines for wind calibration of the more abundant,but lower resolution scatterometer wind data,thus better linking scatterometer wind fields to hurricane *** this paper,we develop a new method for automatically extracting the hurricane eyes from C-band SAR data by constructing Gray Level-Gradient Co-occurrence Matrices(GLGCMs).The hurricane eyewall is determined with a two-dimensional vector,generated by maximizing the class entropy of the hurricane eye region in *** results indicate that when the hurricane is weak,or the eyewall is not closed,the hurricane eye extracted with this automatic method still agrees with what is observed visually,and it preserves the texture characteristics of the original *** compared to Du’s wavelet analysis method and other morphological analysis methods,the approach developed here has reduced artefacts due to factors like hurricane size and has lower programming *** summary,the proposed method provides a new and elegant choice for hurricane eye morphology extraction.

Mechanical properties and impact resistance of concrete composites with hybrid steel fibers

The aim of this study is to develop concrete composites that are resistant to armor-piercing projectiles for defense *** reinforcement configurations have been tested,such as short steel fibers,long steel fibers,and steel mesh *** different concrete mix designs were prepared as“Ultra High Performance(UHPFRC),High Performance(HPFRC)and Conventional(CFRC)Fiber Reinforced Concrete”.The content of hybrid steel fibers was approximately 5%in the UHPFRC and HPFRC mixtures,while the steel fiber content was approximately 2.5%in the CFRC *** addition,a plain state of each mixture was *** properties of concrete were determined in experimental *** addition to the fracture energy and impact strength,two important indicators of ballistic performance of concrete are examined,which are the penetration depth and damage *** results of the study show that the depth of penetration in UHPFRC was around 35%less than that in *** was determined that the mixtures of UHPFRC and HPFRC containing 5%by volume of hybrid steel fibers showed superior performance(smaller crater diameter and the less projectile penetration depth)against armor-piercing projectiles in ballistic tests and could be used in defense structures.
