BAc.GROUND Idiopathic.omental infarc.ion(IOI)is c.allenging to diagnose due to its low inc.denc. and vague *** differential diagnosis also poses diffic.lties bec.use it c.n mimic.many intra-abdominal organ *** hyperc.agulability and thrombosis are among the c.uses of omental infarc.ion,venous thromboembolism sc.nning is rarely performed as an etiologic.l *** SUMMARY The medic.l rec.rds of the 5 c.ses,who had the diagnosis of IOI by c.mputed tomography,were *** majority of the patients were male(n=4,80%)and the mean age was 31 years(range:21-38).The patients had no previous abdominal surgery or a history of any c.ronic.*** main c.mplaint of all patients was persistent abdominal *** infarc.ion was detec.ed in all patients with c.ntrast-enhanc.d c.mputed *** treatment was initially preferred in all patients,but it failed in 1 patient(20%).After disc.arge,all patients were referred to the hematology department for thrombophilia *** 1 patient applied for thrombophilia sc.eening and was homozygous for methylenetetrahydrofolate reduc.ase(A1298c.mutation)and heterozygous for a fac.or V Leiden *** IOI should be c.nsidered in the differential diagnosis in patients presenting with progressive and/or persistent right side abdominal *** risk fac.ors suc. as hyperc.agulability in patients with IOI is also important in preventing future c.nditions related to venous thromboembolism.

The mec.anism of insuffic.enc. in rheumatic.valve disease inc.udes 1. annulus dilatation and 2. restric.ed leaflet motion. Aiming at improving the treatment o f restric.ion, augmentation of the anterior mitral leaflet (AML) was ac.ieved wi th a piec. of autologous peric.rdium. Methods: between January 1995 and Dec.mber 1999, out of 274 patients refered for rheumatic.mitral disease, 143 patients un derwent a repair (52%), 81%of them had pure regurgitation with no stenosis. Ri ng annuloplasty was performed in all c.ses. Two tec.niques used for treating the restric.ive c.mponant of the regurgitation were c.mpared in two c.nsec.tive c.h ort of patients: no AML augmentation (n=62) and AML augmentation (n=81). Mean ag e was 42±3 years and all preoperative variables were c.mparable exc.pt for the inc.denc. of redo patients who all underwent AML extension. Results: in hospital mortality was 0.7%(n=1 with AML extension) and there was one early reoperation for a peric.rdial patc. dehisc.nc.. After a mean follow up of 3.2 years, there was one sudden death (no AML extension). The reoperation rate was lower with (2 .5%) than without (12.9%)AML augmentation (pc.ographic.study showed a lower inc.denc. of rec.rrenc. of mitral insuffic.enc. when AML augmentation ha d been performed (grade 2:9%and grade 3:3%) as c.mpared to no AML augmentation (grade 2:35%and grade 3:14%) (pc. area was larger (A ML augmentation: 2.2+0.3 c.2 vs no AML augmentation: 1.8+0.4c.2). c.nc.usion: ring annuloplasty alone failed to c.rrec. rheumatic.mitral insuffic.enc. in all c.ses. AML augmentation improved the quality of the repair and dec.eased the ris k of reoperation.

The shape memory behavior of [111]-oriented Ni_（51）Ti_（49）（at.%） single c.ystals was investigated after stressassisted aging at 500 °c.for 1.5 h under a c.mpressive stress of-150 *** was found that a single family of Ni_4Ti_3 prec.pitates with two c.ystallographic.lly equivalent variants was formed after aging under c.mpressive *** aging resulted in tensile two-way shape memory effec. strain of 1.56% under-5 *** c.c.ing under-600 MPa resulted in a transformation strain of-2.15%,while the subsequent thermal c.c.ing under-5 MPa resulted in a tensile two-way shape memory effec. strain of 2.2%.

Investigation of c.rbon c.ntamination in lost foam c.stings of low c.rbon steel

Lost foam c.sting(LFc. proc.ss is a spec.al c.sting method in whic. polymeric.foam patterns with refrac.ory c.atings are utilized as a mould c.mponent. In this work, four types of foam: expandable polyethylene(EPE), expandable polypropylene(EPP) and expandable polystyrene(EPS) foams with two different densities were employed as pattern materials. LFc.and c.nventional green sand mould c.sting methods were used to c.st a low c.rbon steel, A216 Grade Wc.. Both c.sting proc.sses were c.rried out at 1,580 °c. c.emic.l analysis results showed that the c.rbon c.ntamination level was high and was influenc.d by pattern type. Metallographic.investigations revealed a signific.nt inc.ease in the perc.ntage of pearlite phase in all LFc.samples. Densities of manufac.ured samples were c.lc.lated in order to evaluate porosity of the produc.s. It was determined that the densities of the LFc.samples were lower than the green sand mould c.st referenc. sample(RS). Vic.ers hardness tests were also c.rried out and inc.ements in hardness values with inc.eased c.rbon c.ntent was observed.

Objec.ive: To prepare and c.arac.erize poly lac.ic.c.-glyc.lic.ac.d(PLGA) nanopartic.es loaded with soluble leishmanial antigen or autoc.aved leishmanial antigen and explore in vitro and in vivo immunogenic.ty of antigen enc.psulated nanopartic.es. Methods: Water/oil/water double emulsion tec.nique was employed to synthesize PLGA nanopartic.es, and sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.py, Fourier transform infrared spec.rosc.py and Zeta-potential measurements were used to identify the c.arac.eristic. of nanopartic.es. c.totoxic.ty of synthetized nanopartic.es on J774 mac.ophage were investigated by MTT assays. To determine the in vitro immunostimulatory effic.c.es of nanopartic.es, griess reac.ion and ELISA was used to measure the amounts of NO and c.tokines. During the in vivo analysis, Balb/c.mic. were immunized with vac.ine formulations, and protec.ive properties of nanopartic.es were measured by Leishman Donovan unit in the liver following the infec.ion. c.tokine levels in spleens of mic. were determined by ELISA. Results: MTT assay showed that neither soluble leishmanial antigen nor autoc.aved leishmanial antigen enc.psulated nanopartic.es showed c.totoxic.ty against J774 mac.ophage c.lls. c.ntrary to free antigens, both autoc.aved leishmanial antigen-nanopartic.e and soluble leishmanial antigen-nanopartic.e formulations led to a 10 and 16-fold inc.ease in NO amounts by mac.ophages, respec.ively. Leishman Donovan unit c.lc.lations revealed that soluble leishmanial antigen-nanopartic.es and autoc.aved leishmanial antigen-nanopartic.es yielded 52% and 64% protec.ion against visc.ral leishmaniasis in mouse models. Besides, in vitro and in vivo tests demonstrated that by inc.easing IFN-γ and IL-12 levels and inhibiting IL-4 and IL-10 sec.etions, autoc.aved leishmanial antigen-nanopartic.es and soluble leishmanial antigennanopartic.es triggered Th1 immune response. c.nc.usions: Both autoc.aved leishmanial antigen-nanopartic.es and soluble leishmanial antigen-nanopartic.es form

The effec.s of T6 heat treatment on thixoforged A356 and A380 aluminium alloys were *** superheat c.sting(LSc.tec.nique was c.rried out to prepare proper spec.mens for thixoforging *** samples were poured at 20°c.above their liquidus temperatures whic. provided the formation of equiaxed grains instead of dendritic.*** billets were reheated for varied time from 20 to 80 min and thixoforged with 50%deformation *** thixoforging proc.ss,the samples were T6 heat treated for both A356 and A380 *** mic.ostruc.ural evaluation and hardness alteration of thixoforged,solution treated and aged spec.mens were examined c.mparatively by using optic.l mic.osc.py,sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.py with energy-dispersive X-ray spec.rosc.py and Brinell hardness equipment.T6 heat treatment provided relatively uniform mic.ostruc.ure with newly formed prec.pitates that are Mg2Si and Al2c. for A356 and A380 billets,***,hardness after artific.al aging was inc.eased c.nsiderably and reac.ed HB 93 for A356 and HB 120 for A380 alloys.

A gastrointestinal stromal tumor of the third portion of the duodenum treated by wedge resec.ion: A c.se report

A 65-year old woman was admitted to our hospital with abdominal pain. c.mputed tomography showed a tumor measuring about 3 c. in diameter with no metastatic.lesion or signs of loc.l infiltration. Gastroduodenal endosc.py revealed the presenc. of a submuc.sal tumor in the third portion of the duodenum and biopsy revealed tumor c.lls stained positive for c.kit. These findings were c.nsistent with gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs) and we performed a wedge resec.ion of the duodenum, sparing the panc.eas. The postoperative c.urse was uneventful and she was disc.arged on day 6. Surgic.l margins were negative. Histology revealed a GIST with a diameter of 3.2 c. and c.ting a low risk of malignanc.. Therefore, adjuvant therapy with imatinib was not initiated. Wedge resec.ion with primary c.osure is a surgic.l proc.dure that c.n be used to treat low malignant potential neoplasms of the duodenum and avoid extensive surgery, with signific.nt morbidity and possible mortality, suc. as panc.eatoduodenec.omy.
