River water and sedim.nt em.ody environm.ntal characteristics that give valuable eco-environm.ntal *** to rapid industrialization,the aquatic environm.nt of any urban river can be seriously polluted by heavy m.tals(Hm.).The global concern is caused by heavy m.tal pollution because of its potential harm.to aquatic ecosystem. and hum.n *** the Bhairab River,Bangladesh,surface sedim.nt concentrations of globally alarm.ng toxic m.tals such as arsenic(As),chrom.um.Cr),cadm.um.Cd),and lead(Pb) were m.asured to determ.ne the ecological and hum.n health risks of the riverine *** average As,Cr,Cd,and Pb concentrations in water were 3.55,31.74,1.44,and23.82 μg/L,respectively,and in sedim.nt were 4.13,34.17,1.66,and 25.46 m./kg,*** the winter,m.tals in sedim.nt were higher than during the *** m.st sedim.nt sam.les,the enrichm.nt factor(EF),contam.nation factor(CF),geoaccum.lation index(I),pollution load index(PLI) of As,Cr,Cd,and Pb indicated m.derate *** potential ecological risk(PER) in sedim.nt followed the descending order of Cd> As> Pb> *** contam.nation level of toxic m.tals im.lied that the condition is frightening and probably severely affecting the aquatic ecology of this riverine ecosystem.

BACKGROUND m.senchym.l stem.cells(m.Cs)as living biopharm.ceuticals with unique properties,i.e.,stem.ess,viability,phenotypes,paracrine activity,etc.,need to be adm.nistered such that they reach the target site,m.intaining these properties unchanged and are retained at the injury site to participate in the repair *** of delivery(RoD)rem.ins one of the critical determ.nants of safety and *** study elucidates the safety and effectiveness of different RoDs of m.C treatm.nt in heart failure(HF)based on phase II random.zed clinical trials(RCTs).We hypothesize that the RoD m.dulates the safety and efficacy of m.Cbased therapy and determ.nes the outcom. of the *** To investigate the effect of RoD of m.Cs on safety and efficacy in HF *** RCTs were retrieved from.six *** endpoints included m.rtality and serious adverse events(SAEs),while efficacy outcom.s encom.assed changes in left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF),6-m.nute walk distance(6m.D),and pro-B-type natriuretic peptide(pro-BNP).Subgroup analyses on RoD were perform.d for all study *** Twelve RCTs were ***,m.C therapy dem.nstrated a significant decrease in m.rtality[relative risk(RR):0.55,95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.33-0.92,P=0.02]com.ared to control,while SAE outcom.s showed no significant difference(RR:0.84,95%CI:0.66-1.05,P=0.11).RoD subgroup analysis revealed a significant difference in SAE am.ng the transendocardial(TESI)injection subgroup(RR=0.71,95%CI:0.54-0.95,P=0.04).The pooled weighted m.an difference(Wm.)dem.nstrated an overall significant im.rovem.nt of LVEF by 2.44%(Wm.:2.44%,95%CI:0.80-4.29,P value≤0.001),with only intracoronary(IC)subgroup showing significant im.rovem.nt(Wm.:7.26%,95%CI:5.61-8.92,P≤0.001).Furtherm.re,the IC delivery route significantly im.roved 6m.D by 115 m.Wm.=114.99 m.95%CI:91.48-138.50),*** biochem.cal efficacy outcom.s,only the IC subgroup showed a significant reduction in pro-

The speed of increasing threats to the riverine water resources m.kes it m.re critical to protect the health of Old Brahm.putra River *** current study was done to investigate the concentrations,distributions,sources,and ecological risk of heavy m.tals in surface sedim.nt from.the Old Brahm.putra River,*** were collected from.seven sites and analyzed with an inductively coupled plasm.-m.ss spectrom.ter(ICP-m.).The results showed that m.an concentrations(m./kg) of heavy m.tals were in the order of nickel(Ni)(44.69)> chrom.um.Cr)(30.16)> lead(Pb)(19.31)>copper(Cu)(17.84)> cadm.um.Cd)(3.94)> arsenic(As)(2.73).The contam.nation factor(CF),pollution load index(PLI),enrichm.nt factor(EF),and geo-accum.lation index(Igeo) indicated low to m.derate *** unit analysis revealed that the studied m.tals from.all stations posed low *** sedim.nt of the study river was uncontam.nated to m.derately contam.nated,posing a m.nim.l ecological ***,Cr,Ni,and Pb originated from.anthropogenic sources rather than geogenic sources,and caused the severity of *** this regard,pollutant-based intensive m.nitoring of heavy m.tals and holistic ecological risk assessm.nts are required to m.intain a sound and healthy aquatic environm.nt in the river.

In this study,a set of coupled m.lti-m.dia com.artm.nts(i.e.,sedim.nt,soil,water and vegetable)was used to assess ecological and health risks from.the ingestion of 11 PTEs(Pb,Cd,Cr,As,Hg,Cu,Zn,Ni,Co,Fe,and m.)and their transportation routes in the water-soil-plant system.from.the coastal Bhola Island,*** m.an concentrations of Cd,Pb,and Co for soil and Cd,Co,and As for sedim.nt were higher than their reference *** contrast,Cd,Pb,and Ni concentrations in water surpassed the acceptable lim.ts set by national and international laws and were considered unsuitable for drinking *** dem.nstrated high Pb and Cd contents,dem.nstrating a potential food safety risk to the *** of principal com.onent analysis(PCA)revealed that Cd,Pb,Hg,Cu,Ni and Zn sources were likely to be anthropogenic,especially agro-farm.ng inputs,whereas the Fe,As,Cr,m.,and Co sources were sim.lar to natural ***,Cd,Pb and Co are the key contam.nants in the study area and pose the elevated health and ecological risks in the coastal *** and Pb exhibited higher ecological risks in soils and sedim.nts,as Pb had the highest bio-accessibility(BA;0.02±0.003)and Cd possessed a high bioaccum.lation factor(BCF;0.004±0.006).The self-organizing m.p analysis recognized three spatial patterns which are good agreem.nt with *** average hazard index(HI)values for soil were above the perm.ssible level(HI>1)set by the respective agency;two tim.s higher HI values were noticed for children than adults,suggesting children are highly susceptible to health *** m.nitoring and source controls for Cd and Pb,along with agro-farm.ng m.nagem.nt practices,need to be im.lem.nted to reduce the risk of PTE contam.nation to the aquatic ecosystem.and its inhabitants.

Effect of grass density and date of tapping on Acacia senegal gum.yield in north kordofan state, Sudan

We conducted a two-factor experim.nt in random.zed com.lete block design with four replications during 2004 in El Dem.keya Forest Reserve and El Him.ira Natural Forest, North Kordofan State, Sudan. The objective was to develop an understanding of the ecological effects of under-story vegetation and tapping date on the productivity of gum.arabic from.Acacia senegal as over story cover. The first factor was grass cover which was tested in four levels （100% and 50% grass cover in addition to bare and burnt）. The second factor, date of tapping was tested in three levels nam.ly （1st Oct, 15th Oct and 1st Nov）. The first picking was done after 45 days from.tapping and the gum.yield up to seven pickings was collected at intervals of 15 days. Gum.yield from.each picking was collected and weighed using sensitive balance. Analysis of variance was carried out using m.TAT-C statistical package, and the Tukey test was applied for m.an com.arisons. The results showed highly significant differences （p 〈 0.01） of grass cover on gum.arabic yield in the two sites for m.st of the first consecutive pickings （1st–4th out of seven） in addition to total yield （kg/ha）. With exception to the 4th pickings, the interaction effect between the grass densities and tapping date was not significantly different. The total gum.yield was significantly （p 〈 0.05） increased in only two pickings （third and fourth） in El Dem.keya Forest Reserve and two pickings （1st and 2nd） at El Him.ira Natural Forest. The density of grass cover significantly （p 〈 0.05） affected the num.er of pickings at both sites; the num.er of gum.pickings was directly proportional to grass density. The num.er of gum.pickings was found to be significantly （p 〈 0.05） increased at the early date of tapping.

m.crobial fuel cell(m.C) is an advanced bioelectrochem.cal technique that can utilize biom.ss m.terials in the process of sim.ltaneously generating electricity and biodegrading or bio transform.ng toxic pollutants from.wastewater. The overall perform.nce of the system.is largely dependent on the efficiency of the anode electrode to enhance electron transportation. Furtherm.re, the anode electrode has a significant im.act on the overall cost of m.C setup. Hence, the need to explore research focused towards developing cost-effective m.terial as anode in m.C. This m.terial m.st also have favourable properties for electron transportation. Graphene oxide(GO) derivatives and its m.dification with nanom.terials have been identified as a viable anode m.terial. Herein, we discussed an econom.cally effective strategy for the synthesis of graphene derivatives from.waste biom.ss m.terials and its subsequent fabrication into anode electrode for m.C applications. This review article offers a prom.sing approach towards replacing com.ercial graphene m.terials with biom.ss-derived graphene derivatives in a view to achieve a sustainable and com.ercialized m.C.

Dom.in *** at field capacity was applied m.nually at 2-day *** appli-cation of m.lch significantly lowered ST while joint application of 20t ha^(-1)Pm.Pm.0)and m.signifi-cantly(p≤0.05)reduced ST at 5 cm.and 10 cm.soil depth com.ared with the unm.lched plots in both *** of 10t ha^(-1)Pm.Pm.0)without m.recorded the highest ETc(43.7 m.),while joint application of Pm.0 and m.reduced ETc by about 93%com.ared with Pm.0 *** used water m.st efficiently when Pm.0 was applied under m.lched *** was 62.2%increase in WUE under m.lched plots com.ared with the control while the residual effect of Pm.0 and m.significantly increased WUE by 65.5%.It was evident that m.alongside application of Pm.is a good strategy for regulating ST,m.derating ETc and increasing okra WUE,especially during dry season farm.ng.
