Solid oxide fuel cells （SOFCs） offer high energy conversion, low noise, low pollutant emission, and low processing cost. Despite many advantages, SOFCs face a major challenge in competing with other types of fuel cells because of their high operating temperature. The necessity to reduce the operational temperature of SOFCs has led to the development of research into the materials and fabrication technology of fuel cells. The use of composite cathodes significantly reduces the cathode polarization resistance and expands the triple phase boundary area available for oxygen reduction. Powder preparation and composite cathode fabrication also affect the overall performance of composite cathodes and fuel cells. Among many types of cathode materials, lanthanum-based materials such as lanthanum strontium cobalt ferrite （Lal_xSrxCOl_yFey03_~） have recently been discovered to offer great compatibility with ceria-based electrolytes in performing as composite cathode materials for intermediate- to low-temperature SOFCs （IT-LTSOFCs）. This paper reviews various ceria-based composite cathodes for IT-LTSOFCs and focuses on the aspects of progress and challenges in materials technology.

Influence of alkaline treatment and fiber loading on the physical and mechanical properties of kenaf/polypropylene composites for variety of applications

Due to current trend and increasing interest towards natural based fiber products, Kenaf(Hibiscus cannabinus)fibers have been used for the developments of many products. Therefore, Kenaf fiber-reinforced composites have been widely used in engineering and industrial applications. The present work deals with the fabricating and characterization of untreated and treated kenaf/polypropylene(PP)-reinforced composites. Composites of PP reinforced with treated and untreated kenaf fibers were fabricated using the injection molding *** fiber loadings of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 wt% treated and untreated kenaf composites were also prepared. Xray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy and thermo gravimetric analysis(TGA) were performed on the treated, untreated kenaf fibers and kenaf/PP composites. Moreover, the alkaline-treated kenaf composites exhibit better physical, morphological, and mechanical properties because of the compatibility of kenaf with PP. However, variations in tensile and flexural properties depend on treatment and kenaf fiber contents. The percentage increase in the mechanical properties of the treated kenaf/PP composites relative to that of PP was also measured. In addition, 40 wt%kenaf fiber loading resulted in higher mechanical properties. By contrast, kenaf/PP composite with 50% fiber loading was not successfully prepared because of improper mixing and the burning of kenaf fibers in the PP matrix. To conclude, 40% kenaf/PP composites with superior physical and mechanical properties may be used in variety of applications such as automotive, sports, construction, animal bedding, and mass production industries.

A Hybrid Quantum Inspired Particle Swarm Optimization and Least Square Framework for Real-time Harmonic Estimation

The power quality is becoming an extensively addressing aspect of the power system because of the sensitive operation of the smart grid, awareness of power quality, and the equipment of modern power systems. In this paper, we have conceived a new hybrid Quantum inspired particle swarm optimization and least square(QPSO-LS) framework for real-time estimation of harmonics presented in time-varying noisy power signals. The technique has strong, robust, and reliable search capability with powerful convergence properties. The proposed approach is applied to various test systems at different signal to noise ratio(SNR) levels in the presence of uniform and Gaussian noise. The results are presented in terms of precision, computation time, and convergence characteristics. The computation time decreases by 3-5 times as compared to the existing algorithms. The technique is further authenticated by estimating harmonics of real-time current or voltage waveforms, obtained from light emitting diode(LED) lamp and axial flux permanent magnet synchronous generator(AFPMSG). The results demonstrate the superiority of QPSO-LS over other methods such as LS-based genetic algorithm(GA), particle swarm optimization(PSO), bacterial foraging optimization(BFO), artificial bee colony(ABC), and biogeography based optimization with recursive LS(BBO-RLS) algorithms, in terms of providing satisfactory solutions with a significant amount of robustness and computation efficiency.

Simulation of Vortex-Induced Vibrations of A Cylinder Using ANSYS CFX

In this paper, vortex-induced vibrations of a cylinder are simulated by use of ANSYS CFX simulation code. The cylinder is treated as a rigid body and transverse displacements are obtained by use of a one degree of freedom spring damper system. 2-D as well as 3-D analysis is performed using air as the fluid. Reynolds number is varied from 40 to 16000 approx., covering the laminar and turbulent regimes of flow. The experimental results of （Khalak and Williamson, 1997） and other researchers are used for validation purposes. The results obtained are comparable.

Fuzzy-Based Dynamic Distributed Queue Scheduling for Packet Switched Networks

Addressing the problem of queue scheduling for the packet-switched system is a vital aspect of congestion control. In this paper, the fuzzy logic based decision method is adopted for queue scheduling in order to enforce some level of control for traffic of different quality of service requirements using predetermined values. The fuzzy scheduler proposed in this paper takes into account the dynamic nature of the Internet traffic with respect to its time-varying packet arrival process that affects the network states and performance. Three queues are defined, viz low, medium and high priority queues. The choice of prioritizing packets influences how queues are served. The fuzzy scheduler not only utilizes queue priority in the queue scheduling scheme, but also considers packet drop susceptibility and queue limit. Through simulation it is shown that the fuzzy scheduler is more appropriate for the dynamic nature of Internet traffic in a packet-switched system as compared with some existing queue scheduling methods. Results show that the scheduling strategy of the proposed fuzzy scheduler reduces packet drop, provides good link utilization and minimizes queue delay as compared with the priority queuing （PQ）, first-in-first-out （FIFO）, and weighted fair queuing （WFQ）.

Fused deposition modelling (FDM) is one of rapid prototyping (RP) technologies which uses an additive fabrication *** commercially available FDM model has different types of process parameters for different *** of the desired parts require excellent surface finish as well as good *** most common parameters requiring setup are the raster angle,tool path,slice thickness,build orientation,and deposition *** purpose of this paper is to discuss the process parameters of FDM Prodigy Plus (Stratasys,Inc.,Eden Prairie,MN,USA).Various selected parameters were tested and the optimum condition was *** quality of the parts produced was accessed in terms of dimensional accuracy and surface *** optimum parameters obtained were then applied in the fabrication of the master pattern prior to silicone rubber moulding (SRM).These parameters would reduce the post processing *** dimensional accuracy and surface roughness were analyzed using coordinate measuring machine (CMM) and surface roughness tester,*** on this study,the recommended parameters will improve the quality of the FDM parts produced in terms of dimensional accuracy and surface roughness for the application of SRM.

Catalytic methanation reaction over supported nickel-rhodium oxide for purification of simulated natural gas

In this research,new catalyst with high industrial impact is developed,which can catalyze the conversion of CO2 to methane through methanation reaction.A series of catalysts based on nickel oxide were prepared using wetness impregnation technique and ageing,followed by calcination at 400℃.Rh/Ni（30：70）/Al2O3 catalyst was revealed as the most potential catalyst based on the results of catalytic activity measurement monitored by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy（FTIR）and Gas Chromatography（GC）.The results showed 90.1%CO2 conversion and 70.8% yield at 400℃.

Two-Stage IoT Computational Task Offloading Decision-Making in MEC with Request Holding and Dynamic Eviction

The rapid development of Internet of Things(IoT)technology has led to a significant increase in the computational task load of Terminal Devices(TDs).TDs reduce response latency and energy consumption with the support of task-offloading in Multi-access Edge Computing(MEC).However,existing task-offloading optimization methods typically assume that MEC’s computing resources are unlimited,and there is a lack of research on the optimization of task-offloading when MEC resources are *** addition,existing solutions only decide whether to accept the offloaded task request based on the single decision result of the current time slot,but lack support for multiple retry in subsequent time *** is resulting in TD missing potential offloading opportunities in the *** fill this gap,we propose a Two-Stage Offloading Decision-making Framework(TSODF)with request holding and dynamic *** Short-Term Memory(LSTM)-based task-offloading request prediction and MEC resource release estimation are integrated to infer the probability of a request being accepted in the subsequent time *** framework learns optimized decision-making experiences continuously to increase the success rate of task offloading based on deep learning *** results show that TSODF reduces total TD’s energy consumption and delay for task execution and improves task offloading rate and system resource utilization compared to the benchmark method.

Multi-Scale Network with Integrated Attention Unit for Crowd Counting

Estimating the crowd count and density of highly dense scenes witnessed in Muslim gatherings at religious sites in Makkah and Madinah is critical for developing control strategies and organizing such a large ***,since the crowd images in this case can range from low density to high density,detection-based approaches are hard to apply for crowd ***,deep learning-based regression has become the prominent approach for crowd counting problems,where a density-map is estimated,and its integral is further computed to acquire the final count *** this paper,we put forward a novel multi-scale network(named 2U-Net)for crowd counting in sparse and dense *** proposed framework,which employs the U-Net architecture,is straightforward to implement,computationally efficient,and has single-step *** layers are used to retrieve the pooling layers’erased information and learn hierarchically pixelwise spatial *** helps in obtaining feature values,retaining spatial locations,and maximizing data integrity to avoid data *** addition,a modified attention unit is introduced and integrated into the proposed 2UNet model to focus on specific crowd *** proposed model concentrates on balancing the number of model parameters,model size,computational cost,and counting accuracy compared with other works,which may involve acquiring one criterion at the expense of other *** on five challenging datasets for density estimation and crowd counting have shown that the proposed model is very effective and outperforms comparable mainstream ***,it counts very well in both sparse and congested crowd *** 2U-Net model has the lowest MAE in both parts(Part A and Part B)of the ShanghaiTech,UCSD,and Mall benchmarks,with 63.3,7.4,1.5,and 1.6,***,it obtains the lowest MSE in the ShanghaiTech-Part B,UCSD,and Mall benchmarks with 12.0,1.9,and 2.1,respectively.

Toxicity evaluation of ZnO and TiO_2 nanomaterials in hydroponic red bean(Vigna angularis) plant:Physiology, biochemistry and kinetic transport

The toxicity and kinetic uptake potential of zinc oxide（Zn O） and titanium dioxide（TiO2）nanomaterials into the red bean（Vigna angularis） plant were investigated. The results obtained revealed that Zn O, due to its high dissolution and strong binding capacity, readily accumulated in the root tissues and significantly inhibited the physiological activity of the plant. However, TiO2 had a positive effect on plant physiology, resulting in promoted growth. The results of biochemical experiments implied that Zn O, through the generation of oxidative stress, significantly reduced the chlorophyll content, carotenoids and activity of stress-controlling enzymes. On the contrary, no negative biochemical impact was observed in plants treated with TiO2. For the kinetic uptake and transport study, we designed two exposure systems in which Zn O and TiO2 were exposed to red bean seedlings individually or in a mixture approach. The results showed that in single metal oxide treatments, the uptake and transport increased with increasing exposure period from one week to three ***, in the metal oxide co-exposure treatment, due to complexation and competition among the particles, the uptake and transport were remarkably decreased. This suggested that the kinetic transport pattern of the metal oxide mixtures varied compared to those of its individual constituents.
