Geochemistry, mineralogy, and radioactivity of the abu Furad Area, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt

abu Furad is in the Central Eastern Desert,Egypt. It comprises metasediments, metavolcanics,metagabbros, syn-to late-orogenic granites, and post-orogenic granites, in addition to numerous dykes and veins of different shapes and composition invading all the older rocks cropping out in the study area. Field, petrographic,mineralogical, and chemical investigations led to the classification of abu Furad granites as quartz diorite, tonalite,granodiorite, and *** oxide and trace element data revealed that the syn-to late-orogenic granites and post-orogenic granites are peraluminous. Syn-to lateorogenic granites originated from calc-alkaline volcanic arc–related magma; while the post-orogenic granites(syenogranite) are highly fractionated, calc-alkaline granite from a within plate regime. Radiometrically, the studied quartz diorite, tonalite, and granodiorite had lower uranium and thorium contents and higher eU/eTh ratios than the syenogranites. This may indicate that the syn-to late-orogenic rocks originated from sources depleted in these elements. The average e Th/eU ratio of syenogranites was higher than that of average continental crust, suggesting that the syenogranites are relatively depleted in U. The studied altered syenogranites were strongly enriched in U and Th compared to the Earth's crust. On the other hand, the average of e U in pegmatites is lower than the global average for uraniferous pegmatites. The most recorded accessory minerals in the altered syenogranites were thorite, fergusonite, samarskite, columbite, zircon, monazite, xenotime,apatite, fluorite, sphene, atacamite, and malachite, in addition to chromium and nickel inclusions.

The neuromuscular junction(NMJ)is an essential synaptic structure composed of motor neurons,skeletal muscles,and glial cells that orchestrate the critical process of muscle contraction(Li et al.,2018).The typical NMJ structure is classically described as having a“pretzel-like”shape in mice(Figure 1),whereas human NMJs have a smaller,fragmented structure throughout *** NMJs exhibit smaller or fragmented endplates,partial denervation,reduced numbers of synaptic vesicles,abnormal presynaptic mitochondria,and dysfunctional perisynaptic Schwann cells(Alhindi et al.,2022).

Anabolic steroid abuse causing recurrent hepatic adenomas and hemorrhage

Anabolic steroid abuse is common among athletes and is associated with a number of medical complications. We describe a case of a 27-year-old male bodybuilder with multiple hepatic adenomas induced by anabolic steroids. He initially presented with tumor hemorrhage and was treated with left lateral hepatic segmentectomy. Regression of the remaining tumors was observed with cessation of steroid use. However, 3 years and a half after his initial hepatic segmentectomy, he presented with recurrent tumor enlargement and intraperitoneal hemorrhage in the setting of steroid abuse relapse. Given his limited hepatic reserve, he was conservatively managed with embolization of the right accessory hepatic artery. This is the first reported case of hepatic adenoma re- growth with recidivistic steroid abuse, complicated by life-threatening hemorrhage. While athletes and bodybuilders are often aware of the legal and social ramifications of steroid abuse, they should continue to be counseled about its serious medical risks.

Hydrobiological variables as a regulatory factor on the abundance of heterotrophic flagellates in an urban pond

The seasonal abundance of flagellates has been monitored over a period of 1 year from December 2013 to November 2014(divided into 4 conjugative seasons namely winter,spring,summer,and autumn)in an experimental pond located in Rajshahi City Corporation area,*** our knowledge,this study is the fi rst to shed light on the occurrence and possible interrelationships among heterotrophic flagellates(HF),bacteria and zooplankton in Bangladesh and the result obtained by this study will be beneficial for similar water ecosystem all over the *** methods were used to determine the prescribed hydrological parameters and zooplankton cell *** HF abundance(14 346.00 cells/mL)was found in the spring and the minimum(5 215.00 cells/mL)occurred in the *** to HF,significantly(Pabundance was found during the winter(782.00±47.62 cells/mL)and the lowest value was found in the autumn(448.00±39.15 cells/mL).Whereas similar to the HF,total bacterial abundance was significantly higher during the spring((2.25±1.05)×10^5 cells/mL)and lower in the summer((0.79±0.06)×10^5 cells/mL).Multivariate analyses(ANOSIM and MDS)have shown significant seasonal differences for cell numbers where MDS ordination plot and cluster analysis based on similarity in the genera abundance of HF revealed overlapping condition between winter and *** correspondence analysis(CCA)also showed a distinct separation among the genera based on the prevailing hydrological situation and indicated that temperature,pH,BOD5,and NO3^-were the most important environmental variables in determining the observed variation in HF community *** the biological factors,zooplankton showed negative but total bacteria were positively correlated with HF abundance.

Performance Analysis of the Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces Communication Systems

Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) play a vital role in meeting the growing demand for higher data rates and reliability in wireless systems. This study focuses on analyzing the performance of RIS systems to gain a deeper understanding of their *** paper presents a mathematical analysis of the RIS system,deriving closed-form formulae that express its characteristics including signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)distribution,ergodic and effective capacity,outage,and error probability. The obtained formulae are newly derived and unconditionally valid solutions. Numerical results demonstrate a close agreement between the derived formulae and MonteCarlo simulation outcomes.

Model-independent Veltman condition,naturalness and the little hierarchy problem

We adopt a bottom-up Effective Field Theory(EFT)approach to derive a model-independent Veltman condition to cancel out the quadratic divergences in the Higgs *** show using the equivalence theorem that all the deviations in the Higgs couplings to the W and Z from the SM predictions should *** argue based on tree-level unitarity that any new physics that naturally cancels out the quadratic divergences should be ≤19 *** show that the level of fine-tuning required is unless the O(0:1%-1%) UV sector has a symmetry that forces the satisfaction of the model-independent Veltman condition,in which case all fine-tuning is *** also conjecture that,if no new physics that couples to the Higgs is observed up to~19 TeV,or if the Higgs couplings to the SM particles conform to the SM predictions,then the Higgs either does not couple to any UV sector or is fine-tuned.

Hemoglobin Subunit Beta Gene Polymorphism rs33949930 T>C and Risk of Sickle Cell Disease—A Case Control Study from Tabuk (Northwestern Part of Saudi Arabia)

Background: Sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait are common erythrocyte disorders that are most often caused by a point mutation (rs334, designated HbS) in the hemoglobin beta gene (HBB);however of this fact, there is extreme variability in occurrence and clinical presentation of sickle cell disease which may be explained by some other genetic changes associated with the gene. In the present study we examined the association between HBB gene polymorphism rs33949930 T>C in the occurrence of sickle cell disease in Saudi Arabia population. Materials and Methods: A case control study of 100 sickle cell disease patients and 100 healthy controls from Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. HBB gene rs33949930 T>C polymorphism was analyzed using Allele specific polymerase chain reaction technique. Results: It was observed that the genotype percentages TT, TC and CC among the patients with sickle cell disease were 63.0%, 35.0% and 2.0% and healthy controls were 68.0%, 27.0% and 5.0% respectively. Allele frequency for T allele was observed to be fT = 0.20 and fT = 0.19, where as for C allele was fC = 0.80 and fC = 0.81 among cases and controls respectively (p = 0.29). Compared to the TT genotype, the odds ratio of 1.4 (95% CI 0.76 - 2.57), risk ratio of 1.2 (95% CI 0.86 - 1.65) and risk difference of 8.4 (-6.66 - 23.38) for heterozygous genotype of HBB rs33949930 T>C was observed in relation to sickle cell disease. In addition, some difference in the laboratory values was observed among sickle cell disease patients with the different variants of HBB gene rs33949930 T>C polymorphism, especially the carriers of heterozygous TC genotype;however, the difference doesn’t reach to statically significant number. Conclusion: Present study suggested that there was not any significant association between HBB gene rs33949930 T>C polymorphism and occurrence of sickle cell disease. Aqueous ruthenium detection by microwave-assisted laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy

Aqueous ruthenium was detected in real-time under ambient conditions using microwaveassisted laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy(MW-LIBS).A 10 mJ laser energy and 750 W microwave power were directed at an open liquid jet sample of *** was observed that,for liquid flow,the coupling efficiency between the microwave and the laser-induced plasma was limited to 43%.The improvement in the ruthenium’s signal-to-noise ratio with MW-LIBS,with respect to LIBS,was *** on MW-LIBS,the limit of detection for aqueous ruthenium was determined to be 957±84 ppb.

Vitamin D improves viral response in hepatitis C genotype 2-3 nave patients

AIM: To examine whether vitamin D improved viral response and predicted treatment outcome in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 2-3. METHODS: Fifty patients with chronic HCV genotype 2-3 were randomized consecutively into two groups: Treatment group [20 subjects, age 48 ± 14 years, body mass index (BMI) 30 ± 6, 65% male], who received 180 μg pegylated α-interferon-2a plus oral ribavirin 800 mg/d (Peg/RBV), together with oral vitamin D3 (Vitamidyne D drops; 2000 IU/d, 10 drops/d, normal serum level > 32 ng/mL) for 24 wk; and control group (30 subjects, age 45 ± 10 years, BMI 26 ± 3, 60% male), who received identical therapy without vitamin D. HCV RNA was assessed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Undetectable HCV RNA at 4, 12 and 24 wk after treatment was considered as rapid virological response, complete early virological response, and sustained virological response (SVR), respectively. Biomarkers of in? ammation were measured. RESULTS: The treatment group with vitamin D hadhigher BMI (30 ± 6 vs 26 ± 3, P 400 000 IU/mL, 65% vs 40%, P 15 ng/mL, OR 2.2, P 30, OR 2.6, P < 0.01) as independent predictors of viral response. Adverse events were mild and typical of Peg/RBV. CONCLUSION: Low vitamin D levels predicts negative treatment outcome, and adding vitamin D to conventional Peg/RBV therapy for patients with HCV genotype 2-3 signifi cantly improves viral response.

Changes in Relative Plate Motion during the Isan Orogeny(1670-1500Ma) and Implications for Pre-Rodinia Reconstructions

Foliation inflexion/intersection axes （FIAs） preserved within porphyroblasts that grew throughout Isan orogenesis reveal significant anticlockwise changes in the direction of bulk horizontal shortening between 1670 and 1500 Ma from NE-SW, N-S, E-W to NW-SE. This implies an anticlockwise shift in relative plate motion with time during the Isan orogeny. Dating monazite grains amongst the axial planar foliations defining three of the four FIAs enabled an age for the periods of relative plate motion that produced these structures to be determined. Averaging the ages from monazite grains defining each FIA set revealed 1649^-12 Ma for NE-SW shortening, 1645±7 Ma for N-S shortening, and 1591±10 Ma for that directed E-W. Inclusion trail asymmetries indicate shear senses of top to the SW for NW-SE FIAs and dominantly top to the N for E-W FIAs, reflecting thrusting towards the SW and N. No evidence for tectonism related to early NE-SW bulk horizontal shortening has previously been detected in the Mount Isa Inlier. Amalgamation of the Broken Hill and possibly the Gawler provinces with the Mount Isa province may have taken place during these periods of NE-SW and N-S-directed thrusting as the ages of tectonism are similar. Overlapping dates, tectonic, metamorphic, and metallogenic similarities between eastern Australia （Mount Isa and Broken Hill terranes） and the southwest part of Laurentia imply a most probable connection between both continental masses. Putting Australia in such position with respect to North America during the Late-Paleo-to-Mesoproterozoic time is consistent with the AUSWUS model of the Rodinia supercontinent.
