The band offsets for a Zn1-xin Mgxin Se/Zn1-xout Mgxout Se quantum well heterostructure are determined using the model solid theory. The heavy hole exciton binding energies are investigated with various Mg alloy contents. The effect of mismatch between the dielectric constants between the well and the barrier is taken into account. The dependence of the excitonic transition energies on the geometrical confinement and the Mg alloy is discussed. Non-linear optical properties are determined using the compact density matrix approach. The linear, third order non-linear optical absorption coefficient values and the refractive index changes of the exciton are calculated for different concentrations of magnesium. The results show that the occurred blue shifts of the resonant peak due to the Mg incorporation give the information about the variation of two energy levels in the quantum well width.

AIM： To study the blood-brain barrier integrity in prehepatic portal hypertensive rats induced by partial portal vein ligation, at 14 and 40 dafer ligation when portal pressure is spontaneously normalized. METHODS： Adult male Wistar rats were divided into four groups： Group Ⅰ： Sham14d, sham operated; Group Ⅱ： PHil, portal vein stenosis, （both groups were used 14 days after surgery）; Group Ⅲ： Sham4od, Sham operated and Group Ⅳ： PH4od Portal vein stenosis （Groups Ⅱ and Ⅳ used 40 d afer surgery）. Plasma ammonia, plasma and cerebrospinal fluid protein and liver enzymes concentrations were determined. Trypan and Evans blue dyes, systemically injected, were investigated in hippocampus to study blood-brain barrier integrity. Portal pressure was periodically recorded. RESUlTS： Forty days afer stricture, portal pressure was normalized, plasma ammonia was moderately high, and both dyes were absent in central nervous system parenchyma. All other parameters were reestablished. When portal pressure was normalized and ammonia level was lowered, but not normal, the altered integrity of blood-brain barrier becomes reestablished. CONClUSION： The impairment of blood-brain barrier and subsequent normalization could be a mechanism involved in hepatic encephalopathy reversibility. Hemodynamic changes and ammonia could trigger blood-brain barrier al.erations and its reestablishment.

β-myosin heavy chain mutations are the most frequently identified basis for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy （HCM）. A transgenic mouse model （αMHC403） has been extensively used to study various mechanistic aspects of HCM. There is general skepticism whether mouse and human disease features are similar. Herein we compare morphologie and functional characteristics, and disease evolu- tion, in a transgenic mouse and a single family with a MHC mutation. Ten male αWHC403 transgenic mice （at -5 weeks, -12 weeks, and -24 weeks） and 10 HCM patients from the same family with a β-myosin heavy chain mutation were enrolled. Morphometric, conventional echocardiographic, tissue Doppler and strain analytic characteristics of transgenic mice and HCM patients were assessed. Ten male transgenic mice （αMHC403） were examined at ages -5 weeks, -12 weeks, and -24 Weeks. In the transgenic mice, aging was associated with a significant increase in septal （0.59±0.06 vs. 0.64±-0.05 vs. 0.69±0.11 mm, P〈0.01） and anterior wall thickness （0.58±0.1 vs. 0.62±0.07 vs. 0.80-1-0.16 mm, P〈0.001）, which was coincident with a significant decrease in circumferential strain （-22%=1=4% vs. -20%-4-3% vs. -19%-4-3%, P=0.03）, global longitudinal strain （-19%-4-3% vs. -17%-4-2% vs. -16%±3%, P=0.001） and E/A ratio （1.9±0.3 vs. 1.7-4-0.3 vs. 1.4-4-0.3, P=0.01）. The HCM patients were classified into 1st generation （n=6; mean age 534-6 years）, and 2nd generation （n=4; mean age 32＋8 years）. Septal thickness （2.2±0.9 vs. 1.4±0.1 cm, P〈0.05）, left atrial （lA） volume （62±16 vs. 41±5 ml, P=0.03）, E/A ratio （0.77±0.21 vs. 1.1±0.1, P=0.01）, E/e＇ ratio （25±10 vs. 12±2, P=0.03）, global left ventricular （lV） strain （-14%±3% vs. -20%±3%, P=0.01） and global lV early diastolic strain rate （0.76±0.17 s1 vs. 1.3±0.2 s-1, P=0.01） were significantly worse in the older generation. In Boswellia papyrifera （Del.） Hochst natural stands, we stud- ied the association of parasitic plants with B. papyrifera trees from which frankincense was tapped and marketed for domestic and export markets. Data on the rate of infection of parasitic plants on B. papyrifera was collected in three transects located at separate locations around Baha kar, northern Ethiopia. Each transect had ten circular sample plots of 400 m2 and separated by 100 m. Species composition, DBH, height, crown di- ameter, number of main, secondary and tertiary branches and number of parasitic plants on individual trees were recorded. Sixteen tree species were recorded in the combined sample plots. The parasitic plant associ- ated with B. papyrifera was identified as Tapinanthus globiferus. This parasite infected 38% of Boswellia trees in sample plots. The infection rate of the parasitic plant varied from 1 to 33 per Boswellia tree. The infection of T. globiferus on B. papyrifera was predominantly limited to tertiary small branchlets arising from secondary branches; parasitic plants were absent on thick main and secondary branches. In all plots, infectionof T. globiferus was exclusively limited to Boswellia trees. The influence of T. globiferus parasitism on growth of Boswellia trees and its influence on yield of incense production needs further investigation. Management of natural stands for frankincense production should include measures to reduce infection by T. globiferus.

Debris flows are rapid mass movements with a mixture of rock,soil and ***-intensity rainfall events have triggered multiple debris flows around the globe,making it an important concern from the disaster management *** study presents a numerical model called debris flow simulation 2D(DFS 2D)and applicability of the proposed model is investigated through the values of the model parameters used for the reproduction of an occurred debris flow at Yindongzi gully in China on 13 August *** model can be used to simulate debris flows using three different rheologies and has a userfriendly interface for providing the *** DFS 2D,flow parameters can be estimated with respect to space and *** values of the flow resistance parameters of model,dry-Coulomb and turbulent friction,were calibrated through the back analysis and the values obtained are 0.1 and 1000 m/s^(2),*** new methods of calibration are proposed in this study,considering the crosssectional area of flow and topographical changes induced by the debris *** proposed methods of calibration provide an effective solution to the cumulative errors induced by coarse-resolution digital elevation models(DEMs)in numerical modelling of debris *** statistical indices such as Willmott's index of agreement,mean-absolute-error,and normalized-root-mean-square-error of the calibrated model are 0.5,1.02 and 1.44,*** comparison between simulated and observed values of topographic changes indicates that DFS 2D provides satisfactory results and can be used for dynamic modelling of debris flows.

In highly urbanized areas,pollution from anthropogenic activities has compromised the integrity of the land,decreasing soil availability for agricultural ***(DBT)is a heterocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon frequently found in urbanized areas,and is often used as a model chemical to study the microbial transformation of *** potential for human exposure and its health risk makes DBT a chemical of concern;thus,it needs to be environmentally *** utilized glycerol to stimulate Burkholderia sp.C3 in order to degrade DBT in respect to①DBT biodegradation kinetics,②bacterial growth,③rhamnolipid(Rl)biosynthesis,and④Rl *** an optimum glycerol-to-DBT molar ratio,the DBT biodegradation rate constants increased up to 18-fold and enhanced DBT biodegradation by 25%–30%at day 1 relative to cultivation with DBT *** enhancement was correlated with an increase in bacterial growth and Rl *** studies revealed the enzymes involved in the upper and main steps of Rl *** Rl congeners Rha-C10-C10,Rha-Rha-C10-C10,Rha-Rha-C10-C12,and Rha-Rha-C12-C12 were identified in the medium supplemented with glycerol and DBT,whereas only Rha-C12-C12 was identified in cultures without glycerol or with Rl *** studies indicated that glycerol enhances DBT biodegradation via increased Rl synthesis and bacterial *** results warrant further studies of environmental biostimulation with glycerol to advance bioremediation technologies and increase soil availability for agricultural purposes.

Objective:The effect of long term auditory deprivation on Cortical Auditory Evoked Potentials(CAEPs)especially in human models is not well ***,the current study was aimed to investigate the effects of long-term auditory deprivation and stimulability of auditory cortex in non habilitated congenitally deaf adolescents and adults using *** and Results:A total of 27 non-habilitated congenitally deaf adolescents/adults with age and gender matched normal hearing adolescents/adults participated in the *** congenitally deaf group was fitted with high gain hearing aids(first fit).Further,the CAEPs were *** obtained CAEP components were assessed for group effect,source and topographical *** between group analysis for CAEP responses showed a significant difference only for P2 latency and *** source analysis revealed that,in the normal hearing group for CAEPs,the sources were within the temporal ***,in the congenitally deaf group,along with the temporal cortex,the bilateral prefrontal cortex also was ***:The findings revealed that it is possible to stimulate and evoke a matured CAEP response from a long deprived auditory system with adequate acoustic *** presence of CAEP responses is indicative of the functionality of the innate auditory pathway and the crossmodal plasticity in long auditory deprived individuals.
