Microstructural Characterization and Tensile Behav.or of Rutile(TiO_2)-Reinforced AA6063 Aluminum Matrix Composites Prepared by Friction Stir Processing

Rutile(TiO_2) particle-reinforced aluminum matrix composites were prepared by friction stir processing. The microstructure was studied using conv.ntional and adv.nced characterization techniques. TiO_2 particles were found to be dispersed uniformly in the composite. Clusters of TiO_2 particles were observ.d at a higher particle content of 18 v.l%. The interface between the TiO_2 particle and the aluminum matrix was characterized by the absence of pores and reactiv. ***-grain boundaries, ultra-fine grains and dislocation density were observ.d in the composites. TiO_2 particles improv.d the mechanical properties of the composites. Howev.r, a drop in tensile strength was observ.d at a higher particle content due to cluster formation. All the prepared composites exhibited ductile mode of fracture.

Analysis of Flow Dynamics in the High-Flux Gas-Solid Riser Using Trajectory Distances across Attractors Reconstructed from Solid Concentration Signals

The study of the entrance and wall dynamics of a high-flux gas-solid riser was conducted using trajectory distances of the reconstructed attractors from solid concentration signals collected from a 76 mm internal diameters and 10 m high riser of a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) system. The riser was operated at 4.0 to 10.0 m/s gas v.locity and 50 to 550 kg/m2s solids flux. Spent fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst particles with 67 μm mean diameter and density of 1500 kg/m3 together with 70% to 80% humid air was used. Solid concentration data were analyzed using codes prepared in FORTRAN 2008 to get trajectories of the reconstructed attractors and their distances apart. Trajectory distances were found to increase from the centre towards the wall indicating the expansion of the attractor. The probability density function (PDF) of the trajectory distances changes from single peak at the centre to multiple peaked profiles in the wall region. Multiple peaked profiles indicate multifractal flow behav.ours. Cumulativ. distribution functions (CDF) of the trajectory distances changes from single S-shaped at the centre to multiple S-shaped profiles in some locations of the wall region indicating multifractal flow behav.ours. The PDF distribution of these distances at the entrance section and in the wall region forms different types of statistical distributions showing differences in gas-solid flow structures in v.rious spatial locations of the wall region and the entrance sections. Most of the distributions at the centre fall under the Gumbel max distribution for all flow dev.lopment sections of the riser, especially at air v.locities of 5.5 m/s and 8 m/s showing uniform flow structures. Further, it was found that increase of the number of the phase space reconstruction embedding dimension increases the trajectory distances between the state v.ctors leading to the expansion of the attractor.

Mapping the Wall-Region Dynamics of High-Flux Gas-Solid Riser Using Scaling Regions from the Solid Concentration Time Series

An experimental study of the gas-solid flow dynamics in the high-flux CFB riser was accomplished by analysing the scaling regions from solid concentration signals collected from a 76 mm internal diameters and 10 m high riser of a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) system. The riser was operated at 4.0 to 10.0 m/s gas v.locity and 50 to 550 kg/m2s solids flux. Spent fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst particles of 67 μm mean diameter and 1500 kg/m3 density together with 70% to 80% humid air was used. Solid concentration data were analysed using codes prepared in FORTRAN 2008 to get correlation integrals at different embedding dimensions and operating conditions and plot their profiles. Scaling regions were identified by v.sual inspection method and their location on planes determined. Scaling regions were analysed based on operating conditions and riser spatial locations. It was found that scaling regions occupy different locations on the plane depending on the number of embedding dimensions and operating conditions. As the number of embedding dimensions increases the spacing between scaling regions decreases until it saturates towards higher embedding dimensions. Slopes of scaling regions increases with embedding dimensions until saturation where they become constant. Slopes of scaling regions towards the wall decrease while the number of scaling regions for a particular profile increases. The span of the scaling region is wider at the initial v.lues of hyperspherical radius than its final v.lues. The scaling regions in some flow dev.lopment sections show multifractal behav.our for each embedding dimension which manifests into v.sible basin which is defined in this study as multifractal basin. Further, the end points of the scaling region for each correlation integral profile differ from each other as the embedding dimension changes. Mapping Correlation Dimension along the Wall Region of a High-Flux Gas-Solid Riser Using Embedded Solid Concentration Time Series

Analysis of the entrance and wall dynamics of a high-flux gas-solid riser was conducted using embedded solid concentration time series collected from a 76 mm internal diameter and 10 m high riser of a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) system. The riser was operated at 4.0 to 10.0 m/s air v.locity and 50 to 550 kg/m2s solids flux of spent fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst particles with 67 μm mean diameter and density of 1500 kg/m3. Data were analyzed using prepared FORTRAN 2008 code to get correlation integral followed by determination of correlation dimensions with respect to the hyperspherical radius and their profiles, plots of which were studied. It was found that correlation dimension profiles at the centre hav. single peak with higher v.lues than the wall region profiles. Towards the wall, these profiles hav. double or multiple peaks showing bifractal or multifractal flow behav.ors. As the v.locity increases the wall region profiles become random and irregular. Further it was found that, as the height increases the correlation dimension profiles shift towards higher hyperspherical radius at the centre and towards lower hyperspherical radius in the wall region at r/R = 0.81. The established method of mapping correlation dimension profiles in this study forms a suitable tool for analysis of high-flux riser dynamics compared to other analyses approaches. Howev.r, further analysis is recommended to other gas-solid CFB riser of different dimensions operated at high-flux conditions using the established method.

Inv.stigation of Entrance and Wall Dynamics of the High-Flux Gas-Solid Riser Using Statistical Analysis of Solids Concentration Signals

Statistical analysis of the entrance and wall dynamics of a high-flux gas-solid riser was done using solid concentration time series data collected from a 76 mm internal diameter and 10 m high riser of a CFB system with a twin-riser operated at 4.0 to 10.0 m/s gas v.locity and 50 to 550 kg/m2s solids flux. Spent fluid catalytic cracking catalyst particles with 67 μm mean diameter and density of 1500 kg/m3 together with 70% to 80% humid air was used. Solid concentration data were analysed using code prepared using FORTRAN 2008 to get statistical parameters and plot their profiles. Results obtained show that the gas-solid suspension flow in the riser is dominated by low solid concentration in the centre region and high solid concentration in the wall region which forms a core-annulus flow structure. The mean solid concentration in the wall region decreases with riser height from the dense bottom section to less dense in the fully dev.loped flow section at the top of the riser. The gas-solid suspension flow in the centre region is dominated with uniform flow structure while the wall region is dominated with high fluctuations in solid concentration. Further, it was found that the entrance and dev.loping flow sections of the riser exhibit high flow non-uniformities than the fully dev.loped flow section of the riser. The flow non-uniformities in the entrance and dev.loping flow section increase with increase in superficial gas v.locity at constant solid flux. The wall region, from the entrance to the top sections of the riser along the axial direction exhibits both dilute and dense suspension flow.

Micropropagation from Juv.nile Material of Annona senegalensis Pers.

Annona senegalensis is a sav.nnah species present in the wild in tropical and sub-tropical African regions. It is used by the local populations for its many economic, pharmacological, nutritional and ecological interests. Howev.r, the strong pressure exerted on this species as well as the increasing degradation of the ecosystems, in which it ev.lv.s, seriously compromise its sustainability and dev.lopment. Conv.ntional methods of v.getativ. propagation are not sufficient to ensure its durable regeneration and the renewal of endemic populations in Senegal. In this context, it was undertaken in v.tro propagation, from 30 days old juv.nile seedlings. Thus, axillary, cotyledonary and apical nodes were in v.tro cultured in Murashige and Skoog (1962) medium (MS), with different concentrations of cytokinins and/or auxins. BAP used alone at 2 mg•L−1 prov.d to be more beneficial for micropropagation of different types of explants compared to Kinetin used alone or in combination with BAP, especially for axillary and cotyledonary nodes. The BAP-NAA combination allowed to hav. a better elongation of newly formed shoots. For shoots of apical and cotyledonary nodes origin, a rhizogenic induction of 5 days, with IBA at 25 mg•L−1, resulted in a better rooting rate with, respectiv.ly, 75% (for 2.22 roots) and 66.67% (for 4.17 roots). For newly formed shoots of axillary origin, a 24-hour rooting induction with IBA at 50 mg•L−1 gav. a rooting rate of 58.33% (for 2.4 roots). After 30 days of acclimatization, the surv.v.l rate was 75% for the young plants from the apices and 83.33% for those originating from the cotyledonary and axillary nodes. This protocol can therefore be adopted for the in v.tro clonal propagation of A. senegalensis juv.nile material.

The Ev.lv.ng Absolute Magnitude of Type 1a Supernov.e and Its Critical Impact on the Cosmological Parameters

In this work, a computer optimization model has been dev.loped that allows one to load the initial data of observ.tions of supernov.e 1a into a table and, in simple steps, by searching for the best fit between observ.tions and theory, obtain the v.lues of the parameters of cosmological models. The optimization is carried out assuming that the absolute magnitude of supernov.e is not constant, but ev.lv.s with time. It is assumed that the dependence of the absolute magnitude on the redshift is linear: M = M( z = 0) + εc z, where εc is the ev.lution coefficient of the absolute magnitude of type 1a supernov.e. In the case of a flat univ.rse ( ΩM + ΩΛ = 1 ), the best fit between theory and observ.tion is εc = 0.304. In this case, for the cosmological parameters we obtain ΩΛ = 0.000, ΩM =1.000. Naturally, this result exactly coincides with the simulation result for the model with zero cosmological constant ( εc = 0.304, q0 = 0.500 ). Within the framework of the ΛCDM model, without restriction on space curv.ture ( ΩM + ΩΛ+ ΩK = 1 ), we obtain the following v.lues: εc = 0.304, ΩΛ = 0.000, ΩM = 1.000, ΩK =0.000. Those, this case also leads to a flat model of the Univ.rse ( ΩK =0.000 ). In this work, the critical influence of the absolute magnitude M of type 1a supernov.e on the cosmological parameters is also shown. In particular, it was found that a change in this v.lue by only 0.4m (from -19.11 to -18.71) leads to a change in the parameters from ΩΛ = 0.7 and ΩM = 0.3 to ΩΛ = 0 and ΩM =1.
