São Paulo State has witnessed CO_(2)storage-based inv.stigations considering the av.ilability of suitable geologic structures and proximity to primary CO_(2)source sinks related to bioenergy and carbon capture and storage(BECCS)*** current study presents the hydrocarbon v.ability ev.luations and CO_(2)storage prospects,focusing on the sandstone units of the Rio Bonito *** objectiv. is to apply petrophysical ev.luations with geochemical inputs in predicting future hydrocarbon(gas)production to boost CO_(2)storage within the study *** study used data from elev.n wells with associated wireline logs(gamma ray,resistiv.ty,density,neutron,and sonic)to predict potential hydrocarbon accumulation and fluid mobility in the inv.stigated *** samples(shale and carbonate)obtained from depths>200 m within the study location hav. shown bitumen *** geochemistry data of the Rio Bonito Formation shale beds suggest they are potential hydrocarbon source rocks and could hav. contributed to the gas accumulations within the sandstone *** drilled well data,e.g.,CB-1-SP and TI-1-SP,show hydrocarbon(gas)presence based on the typical resistiv.ty and the combined neutron-density responses at depths up to 3400 m,indicating the possibility of other hydrocarbon members apart from the heav. oil(bitumen)observ.d from the near-surface rocks *** the three-dimensional(3-D)model,the free fluid indicator(FFI)is more significant towards the southwest and southeast of the area with deeper depths of occurrence,indicating portions with reasonable hydrocarbon recov.ry rates and good prospects for CO_(2)injection,circulation and permanent ***,future studies based on contemporary datasets are required to establish the hydrocarbon v.ability further,foster gas production ev.nts,and enhance CO_(2)storage possibilities within the region.

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common tumor of the saliv.ry glands, accounting for approximately 50% of saliv.ry gland lesions. It dev.lops mainly in the saliv.ry glands: parotid (80%), submaxillary (10%), sublingual (1%) and in the accessory oral-pharyngeal glands (9%). The aim of this work was to report 2 cases of pleomorphic adenoma of atypical location and then to discuss the difficulties linked to its diagnostic and therapeutic management in the Malian context. They were a 40-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman. They were admitted to the ENT department of the “Luxembourg Mere-infant” hospital for oropharyngeal swelling for the first and swelling of the palate for the second. The clinical expression was a swelling in both cases, of a hard, mobile consistency with healthy mucosa on their surface. The remainder of the physical examination was unremarkable. The diagnosis of a tumor of the oropharynx and palate was made following clinical radiological examinations. The histopathological examination of the surgical specimen made it possible to make the diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma of the palate and the left palatine tonsil. The follow-up surgery was straightforward, with a fav.rable outcome. Pleomorphic adenomas are relativ.ly rare benign tumors of the accessory saliv.ry glands;their clinical expression remains swelling. Therapeutic management is surgery and the diagnosis is confirmed by histopathological examination.

Aims: To ev.luate the efficacy and acceptability of solar irradiation in the prev.ntion of diarrhoeal morbidity in children under 5 years of age, in an urban slum in v.llore, Tamil Nadu. Methods: A total of 100 children were assigned to receiv. drinking water that had been subjected to solar disinfection in polyethylene terephthalate bottles. One hundred age and sex matched controls were also selected. Both groups were followed by weekly home v.sits for a period of six months for any diarrhoeal morbidity. At the end of the follow up period, the acceptability of the interv.ntion was assessed by interv.ews, questionnaires, and focus group discussions. Results: There was significant reduction in the incidence,duration, and sev.rity of diarrhoea in children receiv.ng solar disinfected water, despite 86% of the children drinking water other than that treated by the interv.ntion. The incidence of diarrhoea in the interv.ntion group was 1.7 per child-year, and among controls 2.7 per child-year, with an incidence rate ratio of 0.64 (95% CI -0.48 to 0.86). The risk of diarrhoea was reduced by 40% by using solar disinfection. In qualitativ. ev.luation of acceptability, most women felt that solar disinfection was a feasible and sustainable method of disinfecting water. Conclusions: Solar disinfection of water is an inexpensiv., effectiv., and acceptable method of increasing water safety in a resource limited env.ronment, and can significantly decrease diarrhoeal morbidity in children.

Nonlocal-Means Image Denoising Technique Using Robust M-Estimator

Edge preserv.d smoothing techniques hav. gained importance for the purpose of image processing applications A good edge preserv.ng filter is giv.n by nonlocal-means filter rather than any other linear model based approaches. This paper explores a different approach of nonlocal-means filter by using robust M-estimator function rather than the exponential function for its weight calculation. Here the filter output at each pixel is the weighted av.rage of pixels with surrounding neighborhoods using the chosen robust M-estimator function. The main direction of this paper is to identify the best robust M-estimator function for nonlocal-means denoising algorithm. In order to speed up the computation, a new patch classification method is followed to eliminate the uncorrelated patches from the weighted av.raging process. This patch classification approach compares fav.rably to existing techniques in respect of quality v.rsus computational time. v.lidations using standard test images and brain atlas images hav. been analyzed and the results were compared with the other known methods. It is seen that there is reason to believ. that the proposed refined technique has some notable points.

Lichens are symbiotic organisms that comprise a fungus and a photosynthetic partner wich are recognized as a good indicator of climate ***,our understanding of how aridity affects the div.rsity of saxicolous lichens in drylands is still *** ev.luate the relationship between saxicolous lichen div.rsity and aridity in a central México dryland,a geographical transect was established of 100 km to build an aridity gradient in the semiarid zone of the State of Querétaro,Mexico,comprising ten sampling sites with a 10 km *** richness,abundance and div.rsity of soil lichen species were recorded using two sampling methods:the quadrat-intercept and the line-intercept method,to compare their performance in assessing soil lichen div.rsity in *** number of species and Shannon div.rsity of saxicolous lichens were higher at intermediate v.lues of the aridity index(AI=0.10-0.34).Quadrat intercept and point intercept methods gav. quite similar results,which means that the selected method does not influence the results in a significant *** study confirms the role of saxicolous lichens as climate change indicators and rev.als the importance of the sampling method selection in the ev.luation of different parameters of soil lichen div.rsity in drylands.

In this study,the physicochemical properties of linseed and linseed biofuel were studied and their effect on the flow properties of Nigerian waxy crude oil at different v.lume fractions was *** Nigerian wax crude oil was characterized for its specific grav.ty,API grav.ty,wax content,pour point and cloud *** properties of the linseed oil and linseed biodiesel inv.stigated include:density,specific grav.ty,v.scosity,pour point,cloud point and flash *** esterification of the free fatty acid(FFA)contained in the linseed oil reduced from 3.5 to 0.75 and the v.scosity of the seed oil reduces from 2169 to 362 mm^(2)/*** linseed oil and its biodiesel exhibited similar trend of reduced v.scosity at higher shear rate,howev.r,linseed biodiesel demonstrated the lowest v.scosities,cloud points and pour points owing to reduced fatty *** effect of the linseed oil and its biodiesel on the pour point and cloud point of the waxy crude oil was determined;and the performance compared to that of xylene.A rapid drop in the pour point and cloud point was observ.d with the wax crude pre-heated with 0.1 v.v.linseed oil,its biodiesel and xylene.
