The phosphate adsorption and surface charg. characteristics of the tropical and subtropical soils derived from different parent materials in China were determined, and their relations to soil mineralog. were *** results showed that all soil phosphate adsorption curves were well fitted by Freundlich equation and Lang.uir equation. The maximum buffering.capacity of P rang.d from 66 to 9880 mg.kg.1, with an increasing.order of purple soil, skeletal soil, red soil, lateritic red soil, yellow soil and latosol; and the hig.est value was 149 times the lowest value, which indicated g.eat differences among.these soils in phosphate adsorption and supplying.characteristics. The pHo (zero point of charg.) values obtained by salt titrationpotential titration varied from 3.03 to 5.49, and the hig.est value was found in the latosol derived from basalt whereas the lowest value was found in the purple soil. The correlation analysis indicated that the main minerals responsible for phosphate adsorption in the soils were g.bbsite, amorphous iron oxide and kaolinite; and the pHo was mainly controlled by kaolinite, g.bbsite and oxides.

Ba-REE fluorcarbonate minerals from a carbonatite dyke at Bayan Obo, Inner mong.lia, North China, are first reported in this contribution, in which chemical composition, rare earth element (REE) patterns, and interg.owth relationships for these minerals have been investig.ted. Syntactic interg.owth or syntaxy between cebaite and cordylite, as well as cordylite and huang.oite were observed. This syntactic texture resulted from the variation of chemical composition of crystallizing.ag.nts for those minerals that crystallized directly from carbonatite mag.as. It is worth noting.that REE patterns of the Ba-REE fluorcarbonate minerals in the dyke are similar to those of the corresponding.minerals from the ore hosted dolomite marble of the Bayan Obo g.ant REE-Nb-Fe mineral deposit, which implies their relation in orig.n.

Filamentary structures can form within the beam of protons accelerated during.the interaction of an intense laser pulse with an ultrathin foil targ.t. Such behaviour is shown to be dependent upon the formation time of quasi-static mag.etic field structures throug.out the targ.t volume and the extent of the rear surface proton expansion over the same *** is observed via both numerical and experimental investig.tions. By controlling.the intensity profile of the laser drive,via the use of two temporally separated pulses, both the initial rear surface proton expansion and mag.etic field formation time can be varied, resulting.in modification to the deg.ee of filamentary structure present within the laser-driven proton beam.

Three species of spong.s and a tunicate were collected from Obhur creek of Jeddah coast for this bioactivity study. In order to assess the antifouling.efficacy of selected marine org.nisms, methanolic extracts of these org.nisms were tested ag.inst different fouling.bacterial forms and II-instar stag. of the barnacle, Balanus amphitrite. Antibiosis, bioactivity and followed by multivariate analyses were carried out to check the efficacy of antifouling.effect of the selected marine org.nisms. Principal component analysis revealed the exemplary antifouling.efficacy of the spong. extracts of Stylissa sp. observed followed by Hyrtios sp. ag.inst bacterial forms in the laboratory study. De-trended correspondence analysis confirmed that the contribution of antifouling.efficacy of the selected spong. extracts was observed to be more towards Bacillus sp., Vibrio sp. and Alteromonas sp. moreover, the efficacy of Hyrtios sp. extract(20.430 μg.m L^(-1)) followed by Stylissa sp.(30.945 μg.m L^(-1)) showed hig.er ag.inst barnacle instar compared with other extracts in the bioactivity assay. Bray-Curtis cluster analysis under paired linkag. categ.rized all the spong. extracts into one major cluster with 75% similarity, and one outlier tunicate. more than 80% similarity observed between Hyrtios sp. and Stylissa sp. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) showed that the contribution of major peaks found in the marine org.nisms were towards sulfones, sulfoxides, cyanates and ketones.

Improving.wilson-θ and Newmark-β methods for Quasi-Periodic Solutions of Nonlinear Dynamical Systems

Quasi-periodic responses can appear in a wide variety of nonlinear dynamical systems. To the best of our knowledg., it has been a toug. job for years to solve quasi-periodic solutions, even by numerical alg.rithms. Here in this paper, we will present effective and accurate alg.rithms for quasi-periodic solutions by improving.wilson-θ and Newmark-β methods, respectively. In both the two methods, routinely, the considered equations are rearrang.d in the form of incremental equilibrium equations with the coefficient matrixes being.updated in each time step. In this study, the two methods are improved via a predictor-corrector alg.rithm without updating.the coefficient matrixes, in which the predicted solution at one time point can be corrected to the true one at the next. Numerical examples show that, both the improved wilson-θ and Newmark-β methods can provide much more accurate quasi-periodic solutions with a smaller amount of computational resources. With a simple way to adjust the converg.nce of the iterations, the improved methods can even solve some quasi-periodic systems effectively, for which the orig.nal methods cease to be valid.

There is concern reg.rding.the loss of ecosystem g.ods and services as a result of land use chang.s such as the expansion and intensification of ag.icultural activities. Assessments of these interactions require innovative analyses that combine qualitative and quantitative economic analyses. The millennium Ecosystem Assessment framework was applied to a peri-urban reg.on in British Columbia, Canada to assess the effects of the integ.ation of ag.icultural prog.ams and the maintenance of waterfowl habitat located on the Pacific Flyway. The Delta Farmland & Wildlife Trust, a non-g.vernmental org.nization, has implemented several activities to enhance ecosystem g.ods and services by cooperative prog.ams among.the ag.icultural community and wildlife interests. The successful collaborative framework has resulted in enhanced soil quality, increased biodiversity, and the maintenance of valuable ag.iculture and waterfowl habitat.

The two-dimensional(2 D)kag.me superconductor Cs V_(3)Sb_(5) has attracted much recent attention due to the coexistence of superconductivity,charg. orders,topolog. and kag.me physics,which manifest themselves as distinct electronic structures in both bulk and surface states of the *** interesting.next step is to manipulate the electronic states in this ***,we report ang.e-resolved photoemission spectroscopy(ARPES)evidence for a surface-induced orbitalselective band reconstruction in Cs V_(3)Sb_(5).A sig.ificant energ. shift of the electron-like band aroundΓand a moderate energ. shift of the hole-like band around m are observed as a function of *** evolution is reproduced in a much shorter time scale by in-situ annealing.of the Cs V_(3)Sb_(5) ***-resolved density functional theory(DFT)calculations reveal that the momentum-dependent band reconstruction is associated with different orbitals for the bands aroundΓand m,and the time-dependent evolution points to the chang. of sample surface that is likely caused by the formation of Cs vacancies on the *** results indicate the possibility of orbital-selective control of the band structure via surface modification,which may open a new avenue for manipulating.exotic phenomena in this material system,including.superconductivity.

The province of British Columbia, Canada, has established an Ag.icultural Land Reserve (ALR) to protect the most suitable soil landscapes for ag.iculture. Increases in population and urbanization have resulted in development challeng.s on ALR lands. The metro Vancouver area is the most productive ag.icultural area in British Columbia as well as the most rapidly g.owing.urban reg.on. The increase in impervious areas has decreased the amount of arable land for soil-based ag.iculture and altered the hydrolog.cal cycle. Analysis using.a combination of aerial imag.ry and g.S found that impervious areas comprise about 10 percent of the ALR within metro Vancouver. Farm residences and g.eenhouses have the larg.st effect on reducing.the soil surface for water infiltration. This decrease in area has neg.tively influenced the ecosystem heath of the reg.on, as well as, decreasing.the amount of ag.icultural land for soil based ag.iculture and both surface and g.oundwater dynamics.
