Tubal ligation is a surgical sterilization procedure that provides permanent and reliable contraception to women.?Tubal obstruction is a method of permanent birth control that can be performed after mini-laparotomy under local anesthesia. Objective:?To determine the outcome of tubal sterilizations by mini-laparotomy under local anesthesia performed in clients who underwent the surgical operation in the Maternity Ward of Ignace Deen National Hospital. Patients and Methods:?The Gynecology and Obstetrics Department of Ignace Deen National Hospital was used as the place for the study. The study involved all the women seeking voluntary surgical contraception. This was a retrospective study of a descriptive type carried out from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2018. A consent form was filled out and signed by spouses after an interview and a systematically carried out pre-operative clinical and para-clinical assessment. Results:?During the study period, 56 tubal ligations were performed i.e. 4.72 percent of all family planning methods. The recruiting for the surgical contraception involved clients whose typical profile is that of women with an average age of 35, mostly housewives (35.71%), major multiparous (69.63%) with 6 living children on average. Married women made up the bulk of the recruiting i.e. 96.44%. Unmarried women made much more use of other methods. Indications of personal convenience were the most frequently encountered common reason. Among medical causes, high blood?pressure concerned the majority of cases: 38% of the indications. Surgical contraception in between was more practiced than the post-partum one. The recorded complication was the parietal hematoma due to a lack of hemostasis and it accounted for 1.79% of cases. The progress was uncomplicated in?98.68% of cases. forty couples (71.42%) expressed their feelings of satisfaction against only 6 cases of regret (10.71%). Impacts of COVID-19 Lockdown on the Banking Activities in Conakry

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all professional sectors to varying degrees. It has forced companies to restructure, initiate and promote telework. The aim was to study the impacts of COVID-19 lockdown on banking activities in Conakry. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study over seven months (from November 25, 2020 to June 27, 2021) and multicentric. It included thirteen of the eighteen banks of the main city of the capital Conakry (Kaloum). We analysed socio-demographic data and occupational characteristics. We paid particular attention to banking activities and medical datas. Results: During our study period, 875 workers met to our criteria, one third of whom were men. The average age was 37.93 ± 9.39 years [22 - 71]. financial accounters were the most represented and average seniority at the job was 5.35 years. The work schedule was reduced during lockdown but an telework increased (29.8%). On the medical datas, the prevalence of COVID-19 was 20.7%;the lethality rate was 0.6% and the absentee rate 15.6%. The COVID-19 lockdown has deeply impacted the banking activities in Conakry particularly the productivity by a significant decrease in net banking income. Conclusion: Despite the continuity of activities during this pandemic, banks have experienced a reduction in their productivity resulting in a significant decrease in net banking income. These impacts of COVID-19 on the banking sector reflect its impact on the national economy.

Introduction: fibroscan is a recent, non-invasive and non-irradiating diagnostic method. It is based on the principle of ultrasound, which enables liver tissue elasticity to be quantified using a probe, and fibrosis to be assessed. fibroscan measures both elasticity correlated with hepatic fibrosis and CAP correlated with steatosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate hepatic fibrosis and steatosis using pulse elastometry (fibroscan/CAP). Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study in which 170 patients were included. It was conducted from October 1 2021 to December 31 2023, i.e. 27 months, in an outpatient clinic in the hepato-gastroenterology department of the Donka national hospital of the CHU Conakry. Results: Of the 170 patients identified, 87 were male (51%) and 83 female (49%), giving a M/f sex ratio of 1.04. The average age of our patients was 40. The 30 - 50 age group was the most affected, with a frequency of 58.23% (n = 99), followed by the 50 age group with a frequency of 29.41% (n = 50). Hepatomegaly, steatotic liver on ultrasonography, transaminase elevation and obesity were the main indications, respectively: (21.76%), (17.65%), (14.71%), and (13.53%). The examinations were requested by hepatogastroenterologists (47.06%), diabetologists (35.88%) and general practitioners (29%). Of the 170 patients, 100 patients (58.82%) had no significant fibrosis f0f1, 39 (22.94%) had moderate fibrosis f2, 20 patients (11.76%) had severe fibrosis f3 and 11 patients (6.47%) had fibrosis f4. Hepatic steatosis: 62 patients (36.47%) had no S0 steatosis;29.41% had S1 steatosis, 20% had S2 steatosis and 24 patients (14.11%) had S3 steatosis. Abdominal ultrasound revealed a normal liver in 67.05% of patients, hepatic steatosis in 29.41% and non-decompensated cirrhosis in 6 cases. Objectives: The objectives of this work were to describe the socio-demographic, clinical and prognostic characteristics of forceps deliveries at the maternity ward of the Donka National Teaching Hospital of Conakry. Parturients and Method: This was a prospective and descriptive study of all forceps deliveries performed at the Donka National Hospital maternity ward over a 6-month period from April 1, 2018 to September 30, 2018. Results: We performed 90 fetal extractions by forceps on 3518 deliveries i.e. a frequency of 2.55%. The socio-demographic profile of the parturient women was that of a young primiparous woman with an average age of 21.20 years and a full-term pregnancy with an average gestational age of 39 weeks of amenorrhoea. fore position varieties were the most frequent with, in order of frequency, the fore left occipito-iliac (61.3%) and the fore right occipito-iliac (22.22%). Posterior varieties accounted for 15.55% of cases. Clinical pelvimetry showed that 88.89% of parturients had a practicable pelvis, while 11.11% had a moderately narrow pelvis. Acute fetal suffering was the most common indication (55.56%), followed by maternal exhaustion (27.78%) and prolonged expulsion (16.67%). All forceps were performed by doctors. We noted 8 cases of forceps failure (8.88%) that required a cesarean section. Maternal complications were dominated by soft tissue lesions, including 7 cases of perineal tearing (7.77%);4 cases of vaginal tearing (4.44%);3 cases of cervical tearing (3.33%) and 2 cases of hemorrhage of delivery by uterine atony (2.22%). No cases of maternal death have been recorded. The majority of newborns had a normal birth weight (88.88%) and more than half of newborns (66.66%) had an Apgar score below 7 out of 10 at the first minute. By the fifth minute there was an improvement in Apgar’s score from an average of 5 to 8 out of 10. five newborns died, or 5.55%. Dead fœtale in Utéro: Hospitable frequency, Etiologies and Maternal Prognosis to the Service of Obstetric Gynecology of the Hospital National Donka, CHU of Conakry, Guinea

Objectives: The objectives of this work were to calculate the frequency of MfIU, to describe the epidemiological profile, to identify the étiologies and to establish the maternal prognosis. Methodology: It was about a prospective survey of analytic type spreading on one period of twelve (12) month achieved to the service of Obstetric Gynecology of the hospital National Donka, fALLEN from Conakry. Results: On 5226 childbirths, we recorded 208 cases of MfIU, either a frequency of 3.98%. The epidemiological profile was the one of a teenager or aged woman (more of 35 ans) with respectively (8.17%) and (7.20%), sans follow-up prénatal (10.41%), nullipare (6.02%), célibataire (7.80%), ménagère (5.02%) and non scolarisée (5.16%). The MfIU occurred in the age group of 32 - 36 SA. L’absence of the MAf was the main motive of consultation 94.23%. All cases of MfIU benefitted from a confirmation scan. The vasculo-renal syndromes and their complications were the main étiologie 43.75%;follow-up of the malaria is 13.94%. The majority of the gestantes were delivered by low way 98.08%. The induction of work has been made mainly to the misoprostol (Cytotec 200 μg) either 81.86% against 10.78% of Syntocinon in drip. The maternal morbidity has especially been dominated especially by the hemorrhages in the case of long length retention and the infections when the membranes are broken either 1.44% against 98.56% of case of good maternal prognosis. No maternal death has been recorded. Conclusion: The prenatal consultation offer recentered and the one of medical correct cares of the vasculo-renal syndromes and the malaria could reduce the cases of death fœtale efficiently in utero.

In developing countries, treatment of uterine fibromyoma is confronted with numerous problems, namely: financial inaccessibility to the proposed treatments, fear of surgery and the weakness of the technical platform.?Objectives: The objectives of the study were to calculate the frequency of uterine fibromyomas, describe the socio-demographic characteristics of patients, identify the main clinical data and to describe the modalities of surgical management.?Patients and Method:?It was a mixed descriptive study, cumulative over a period of 5 years (60 months) with data collection in two phases: a 4-year retrospective study from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2018 and a 1-year prospective study from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019.?Results: We collected 135 cases of uterine fibromyomas operated on out of a total of 260 cases of gynaecological pathologies, i.e.?a frequency of 51.92%.?Nulliparous women were the most concerned (45.18%), and women who attended school (60%) and those who did not attend school (40%). Women at home and housewives accounted for 42.20% and 54.07% respectively. Clinically, the circumstances of discovery were dominated by menometrorrhagia and menorrhagia respectively 77.77% and 68.14%. The large uterus was the most frequent physical sign found in 96.29% of cases. Uterine fibromyomas were recorded in 86.6% of cases in women with genital activity. The operative indications were dominated by the large polymyomatous uterus (64.44%), followed by hemorrhagic fibroma (18.52%).?The surgical treatment was conservative in 92.60%. The total hysterectomy performed in 7.40.?Lethality was 1.4%.?Conclusion: The surgical management of fibroids contrasts conservative treatment (myomectomy) with radical treatment (hysterectomy) with multiple possible approaches (hysteroscopy, vaginal surgery, laparoscopy or laparotomy). Graves’ Disease in 100 Cases in Conakry: Epidemiological, Clinical, Therapeutic, and Evolutionary Aspects

Context and Objective: Graves’ disease is an autoimmune disorder of the thyroid gland that occurs in genetically predisposed individuals. It represents the most frequent cause of hyperthyroidism with a clear female predominance. The objective of our work was to report the sociodemographic, clinical, therapeutic, and evolutionary characteristics of Graves’ disease at the University Hospital of Conakry. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive study, over the period from December 2016 to June 2021, at the endocrinology consultation of Donka University Hospital. Epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic, and evolutionary variables of patients followed up for Graves’ disease were collected and analyzed. The diagnosis of Graves’ disease was based on the presence of clinical signs of thyrotoxicosis, diffuse goiter, exophthalmos, and or T-RAK positivity. Results: Graves’ disease was related to 33% of thyroid consultations and 64% of hyperthyroidism. The sex ratio M/f was 0.07. The median age of the patients was 39.4 ± 13 years. The main reason for consultation was thyrotoxicosis syndrome, dominated by cardiovascular signs (92%). TRAK was performed in 38 patients with a positive result in 89%, i.e., a mean level of 17.93 mUI/l. All patients were treated with synthetic antithyroid drugs, with a favorable clinical evolution. Surgery was considered in 4 patients after the stabilization of the thyroid function. The follow-up was considered regular in 49 patients (49%). Conclusion: Graves’ disease is the most frequent hyperthyroidism in Conakry with a clear predominance of women, especially young women. Efforts should be focused on improving diagnosis and the access to treatment for better patient compliance.

Introduction: Oesophageal mycosis (OM) is one of the most common opportunistic infections in patients infected with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). However, this condition is increasingly observed in immunocompetent subjects. The aim of this study was to determine the endoscopic prevalence, clinical characteristics and risk factors for the occurrence of oesophageal mycosis in our department. Patients and Method: This was a prospective cross-sectional study of all patients who underwent oeso-gastroduodenal fibroscopy during the period from 1st January to 31st December 2022, i.e. one year, at the digestive endoscopy unit of the hepato-gastroenterology department of the Donka CHU national hospital in Conakry. All patients found to have oesophageal mycosis by fOGD were included. The endoscopy was performed using appropriate equipment: A fujinon 4400 video endoscopy column;Three fujinon EG 590 video gastroscopes;A hoover;Data were collected using a pre-established survey form and analysed using Epi info software version 6.0.4;Pearson’s Chi2 test as a test of independence and the exact 5% threshold ficher test. Results: Out of 1343 upper gastrointestinal endoscopies performed, 107 cases of oesophageal mycosis were found, representing a prevalence of 7.96%. The mean age was 40 years, with a male predominance of 55.42%. The sex ratio M/f was 1.24. The 45 and over age group was the most affected, with a prevalence of 40.43%, followed by the [35 - 45] age group, with a prevalence of 22.43%. Clinical symptoms were dominated by epigastralgia in 74.76% of cases, followed by odynophagia in 37.38% of cases, nausea and vomiting in 28.03% of cases, and pyrosis in 26.16% of cases. Oesophageal mycosis without oesophagitis was the most common endoscopic finding in 70% of cases. The main associated endoscopic lesions were erythemato-erosive and congestive gastropathy in 28.03% of cases, peptic oesophagitis (9.34%) and gastric ulcer (5.60%). The main risk factor

Phosphorus Based Ceramics for Positive Electrode Synthesis and Characterization

Historically, the LiCoO2 is the most used as active material for battery positive electrode because of its great potential (3.7 - 4.2 V), its interesting specific capacity (150 mA·h·g-1) and its excellent life cycle [1] 08D0C9EA79f9BACE118C8200AA004BA90B02000000080000000E0000005f005200650066003300390038003500370036003700340032000000 . However, its toxicity, the cobalt cost and its structural instability oriented research towards new materials more stable that can replace it. In another context, hybrid, electrical vehicles and communication (computers and mobile phones...) have increased the scientific and technological research for new materials capable of storing and return energy through a system called accumulator. And research has identified the phosphate olivine structure as the most prolific ceramic material for positive electrode. LifePO4 is a promising cathode material for Lithium-ion batteries. It provides high thermal stability and is synthesized using low cost materials. Unfortunately LifePO4 suffers from a low electrical conductivity, which is harmful to its electrochemical performance. Decreasing the particle size, coating the particles with carbon or doping with metal atoms can increase the conductivity of the material. In this paper, we present the synthesis, physico-chemical and electrical characterization of lithium and iron doped Al-phosphorrus-based ceramic. The NPK fertiliser was used as Al and phosphorus precursors. The powder XRD spectrum shows a possible presence of LifePO4 and fe2(PO)3 in theheterostrcture. An important quantity of Al is found by EDX spectra which supposed that the most important based atom is Aluminum and not Phosphorus. This can explain the increase of the conductivity value 102 times more important than those found in the literature for LifePO4.

Respiratory Complications of Measles in the Pediatric Ward of the Regional Hospital of Kindia/Guinea

Introduction: Measles is a highly contagious infectious disease caused by the measles virus belonging to the morbillivirus genus, the measles morbillivirus species and the Paramyxoviridae families. The aim was to study respiratory complications due to measles in children aged 1 to 15 in the pediatric ward of the Kindia regional hospital. Materials and Methods: A transversal descriptive study was carried out in the pediatrics department of the Kindia Regional Hospital from October 1, 2019, to March 31, 2020, on children aged 1 to 15 years hospitalized for measles with respiratory complications. Results: 53 cases of measles were recorded, i.e. 11.71% of hospital pathologies including 32 cases of respiratory complications, i.e. 60.38% with an M/f sex ratio of 1.66, male predominance of 62.5%, and a mean age of 4.10 ± 2.8 years. The outcome was favorable in 90.62% of our patients. The mortality was 9.38% with an average hospital stay of 6.8 ± 3.04 days. Conclusion: The respiratory complication of measles is a serious pathology due to the risk of mortality that it can cause, a consultation followed by rapid treatment can contribute to a reduction in complications and a faster cure.
