The Gulf of Aqaba (GOA) is unique as it contains significant percentage of the world’s natural marine biodiversity. This unique environment is potentially vulnerable to pollution particularly at its northern tip. One of the major activities affecting the environment of the gulf is the man-made desalination plants that abstract sea water and dispose desalinated brine. In this context, the paper discusses the impact of the abstract and disposal activities on the GOA environment. A 3D hydrodynamic model was developed to cover the GOA. Relevant data were collected for 3D hydrodynamic modeling construction. Delft-3D model developed by Deltares was applied in this study. The 3D model reliability was confirmed since the model results have revealed the existence of a structure of primary eddies along the axis of the Gulf which was previously reported by different researchers. Further numerical simulations were carried out by incorporating various alternatives of seawater abstraction and desalinated brine disposal off the north and north east coast of the GOA. The developed GOA hydrodynamic model, at the present stage, is preliminary where the results provide qualitative assessment on the potential impacts on the water circulation. Accordingly, this study is considered a pace ahead for a better model development and validation in the future studies.

Optimal Allocation of a Hybrid Wind Energy-Fuel Cell system Using Different Optimization Techniques in the Egyptian Distribution Network

This paper presents an optimal proposed allocating procedure for hybrid wind energy combined with proton exchange membrane fuel cell (WE/PEMFC) system to improve the operation performance of the electrical distribution system (EDs). Egypt has an excellent wind regime with wind speeds of about 10 m/s at many areas. The disadvantage of wind energy is its seasonal variations. so, if wind power is to supply a significant portion of the demand, either backup power or electrical energy storage (EEs) system is needed to ensure that loads will be supplied in reliable way. so, the hybrid WE/PEMFC system is designed to completely supply a part of the Egyptian distribution system, in attempt to isolate it from the grid. However, the optimal allocation of the hybrid units is obtained, in order to enhance their benefits in the distribution networks. The critical buses that are necessary to install the hybrid WE/ PEMFC system, are chosen using sensitivity analysis. Then, the binary Crow search algorithm (BCsA), discrete Jaya algorithm (DJA) and binary particle swarm optimization (BPsO) techniques are proposed to determine the optimal operation of power systems using single and multi-objective functions (sOF/MOF). Then, the results of the three optimization techniques are compared with each other. Three sensitivity factors are employed in this paper, which are voltage sensitivity factor (VsF), active losses sensitivity factor (ALsF) and reactive losses sensitivity factor (RLsF). The effects of the sensitivity factors (sFs) on the sOF/MOF are studied. The improvement of voltage profile and minimizing active and reactive power losses of the EDs are considered as objective functions. Backward/forward sweep (BFs) method is used for the load flow calculations. The system load demand is predicted up to year 2022 for Mersi-Matrouh City as a part of Egyptian distribution network, and the design of the hybrid WE/PEMFC system is applied. silica gel (sG) was synthesized via acidification of sodium silicate solution then doped with Fˉ or Zr(IV) in molar ratios of F/si 3/100, and Zr/si 0.75/100 and 3.75/100 and sintered at 500°C, 800°C and 1000°C. The samples were investigated by X-ray diffractometry, infrared absorption and Raman spectra, surface area measurement, and inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry-monitored silica hydrolysis. All samples are mesoporous with BET surface areas 181.5 - 523.9 m2·gˉ1. The surface area of the silica samples decreases as the sintering temperature increases. The hydrolysis process of silica decreases as the sintering temperature increases and as the surface area decreases. The pH and the type of buffer solution affect the hydrolysis of silica samples due to a sN2 reaction mechanism favored in basic media using ammonia buffer. Zr(IV) increases the stability of silica samples against the hydrolysis as confirmed by the structural investigation, surface area and silica hydrolysis. Fˉ observably decreases the silica hydrolysis process when presenting on the surface of sG.

Intravenous Fluorouracil versus Oral Capecitabine: Postoperative Chemoradiation for Gastric Cancer

Purpose: Aim of this prospective, phase III trial was to compare the efficacy and toxicity of intravenous fluorouracil and oral capecitabine when given concurrently with radiation in adjuvant sitting for adenocarcinoma of the stomach after gastrectomy with D2 resection. Patients and Method: The study included 60 patients having histologically proven adenocarcinoma of the stomach or gastroesophageal junction;stage T2-4 N0-3 M0 after gastrectomy with D2 lymph node dissection. eligible patients were randomly assigned to receive adjuvant radiotherapy concurrently with intravenous fluorouracil [arm A] or oral capecitabine [arm B]. Results: Ten patients cannot complete their whole treatment course because of either progressive [4 patients;2 arm A and 2 arm B] or G 3 toxicity [1 patient] or refuse to complete their treatment [5 patients;3 arm A and 2 arm B]. Patients received fluorouracil have significant increase grade 3 or 4 hematological [neutropenia] and gastrointestinal (diarrhoea, anorexia, and vomiting). During a median follow-up period of 24 months, the 2-year disease free and overall survivals in this study were 60% and 63.3%, for groups A and B respectively, while overall survival were 63.3% and 70% for groups A and B respectively without significant differences. Conclusion: Oral capecitabine concurrently with radiation therapy has comparable efficacy and favourable toxicity profile when compared to infusion fluorouracil as postoperative adjuvant therapy for gastric adenocarcinoma.

Hepatobiliary manifestations in children with inflammatory bowel disease:A single-center experience in a low/middle income country

BACKGROUNDThere has been a worldwide increase in the reported incidence of inflammatorybowel disease (IBD) in children over the past 2-3 decades. The hepatobiliary (HB)manifestations of IBD have been well-studied in children in industrialized anddeveloped countries but are infrequently reported in low- and middle-incomecountries (LMIC) such as *** determine the prevalence of the HB manifestations in a cohort of Egyptianchildren with *** cross-sectional observational study was carried out over a period of 6 mo(between June 2013 to December 2013, at the Paediatric Hepatology andGastroenterology Units of Cairo University Children's Hospital, which is thelargest paediatric tertiary care centre in the *** study included 48 patients with confirmed IBD based upon clinical,laboratory, endoscopic and histopathological features, 29 (60.4%) were ***-four patients (50%) had ulcerative colitis (UC), 11 (22.9%) had Crohn'sdisease (CD) and 13 (27.1%) had unclassified-IBD (IBD-U), which was formerlyknown as indeterminate colitis. The mean age of the patients at the time ofpresentation was 8.14 (± sD 4.02) years and the mean age at the time of studyenrolment was 10.16 (± sD 4.19) years. All patients were screened for HBmanifestations by physical examination, liver function tests, imaging and liver biopsy when indicated. HB disorders were confirmed in 13 patients (27.1%).Transaminases were elevated in 3 patients (6.3%). Two patients (4.2%) hadelevated biliary enzymes (one was diagnosed as primary sclerosing cholangitis(PsC) and the other was diagnosed with PsC/autoimmune hepatitis overlapsyndrome and the third patient had hepatitis C virus infection. A study on Quark-Gluon Plasma Equation of state Using Generalized Uncertainty Principle

The effects of Generalized Uncertainty Principle, which has been predicted by various theories of quantum gravity replacing the Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle near the Planck scale, on the thermodynamics of ideal Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) consisting of two and three flavors are included. There is a clear effect on thermodynamical quantities like the pressure and the energy density which means that a different effect from quantum gravity may be used in enhancement the theoretical results for Quark-Gluon Plasma state of matter. This effect looks like the technique used in lattice QCD simulation. We determine the value of the bag parameter from fitting lattice QCD data and a physical interpretation to the negative bag pressure is introduced.

Biomedical applications of body area networks (BANs) are evolving, where taking periodic medical readings of patients via means wireless technologies at home or in the office will aid physicians to periodically supervise the patient’s medical status without having to see the patient. Thus, one important objective of BANs is to provide the doctor with the medical readings that can be collected electronically without being in close proximity to the patient. This is done through the measurement of the patient’s physiological signals via means of wearable sensors. This paper investigates wireless BAN cooperation via actual measurements of human movement kinematics and electrocardiogram (ECG), which are believed to provide patients with easy healthcare for continuous health-monitoring. The collected information will be processed using specially designed software, which in turn will enable the patient to send a full medical chart to the physician’s electronic device. In this way, physicians will have the ability to monitor their patients more efficiently.

Effect of Heavy Metals Pollution on Protein Biosynthesis in Catfish

The present study was carried out to evaluate the pollution and its effect on the quality of catfish. Four sites in Eygpt were chosen for the research, Ras el-Bar (site 1) as control, shatta (site 2), Kafr el-Bateekh (site 3), and Talkha (site 4). The research was carried out on water, sediments and catfish (serum and muscles). Nitrite, nitrate and ammonia were determined in water and sediment. Also, RNA and DNA were determined in serum samples and the muscles of the catfish. In addition, the concentrations of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Fe, Zn and Cu) were estimated in water, sediments and the muscles of catfish. Also, hepatosomatic index, liver water content, condition factor, lipid and protein contents were determined in the fish. The concentrations of nitrite, nitrate and ammonia in water and sediment of site 4 and the levels of heavy metals especially Pb and Cd in water, sediment and muscle of catfish from sites 3 and 4 were highly elevated compared to those of the control. On the other hand, DNA, RNA and protein contents in the catfish of sites 3 and 4 decreased. The results illustrated that, Cd and Pb levels in the muscle of catfish were negatively correlated with DNA, RNA and with the protein contents. In conclusion, the accumulation of heavy metals in catfish tissues therefore, can cause health problems in human after catfish intake.

The current article addresses a new strategy for the preparation of polylactic acid/cellulose nanocrystal(PLA/CNCs)nanobiocomposite films with improved structural morphology,mechanical and barrier properties for food packaging *** addition of hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB)and sodium lauryl sulfate(sLs)as cationic and anionic surfactants respectively,was found to play a crucial role in preventing re-aggregation of the CNCs during drying and improving the dispersion of CNCs in the *** coated paper was characterized using mechanical tests,water vapor permeability(WVP),X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(sEM)and air *** results showed that the paper coated with PLA containing 7.5%CNCs and 0.15%CTAB based on weight of PLA,gives the highest measured paper properties,where an increase in tensile strength(+133%),Young’s modulus(+309%),tear index(+183%),burst(+60.8)and a decrease in air permeability(−92%)was obtained.
