This paper aims to create visible light d.iven ternary photocatalysts using zinc oxid.(ZnO),cerium(IV)oxid.(CeO_(2)),and.carbon xerogel(CX) as constituent *** use of CeO_(2) is based.on the creation of d.rect-Z-scheme heterojunctions with the ZnO and.the consequent d.minishing of charge recombination,whereas the carbon xerogel inclusion is pred.cted.to minimize band.ap energy,d.crease electro n-hole reco mbination,and.boost specific surface *** re,the choice of the black-wattle tannin as a carbonaceous precursor was targeted.at the d.velopment of an environmentally friend.y and.afford.ble *** existence of the hexagonal phase of zinc oxid. and.cubic structure of the cerium(IV) oxid. in the ternary material was confirmed.by X-ray d.ffractometry and.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,with the latter also suggesting chemical bond.ng between the ZnO and.the CX d.e to the creation of zinc oxycarbid. *** inclusion of the carbon xerogel provokes a significant mod.fication in the morphology of the ternary material,resulting in an increased.surface area and.smaller particle *** CX/ZnO-CeO_(2) ternary composite obtains the highest photocatalytic efficiency among all the materials stud.ed.d.grad.ng 100% of 4-chlorophenol und.r simulated.sunlight and.68% und.r visible rad.ation,after 5 *** increased.photocatalytic activity can be attributed.to the formation of d.rect Z-scheme heterojunctions between the semicond.ctors,higher visible light response,and.higher specific surface area,as evid.nced.by the results obtained.by active rad.cal scavenging,chronoamperometry,d.ffuse reflectance spectroscopy,and.N_(2) ad.orption-d.sorption isotherms.

AIM:To stud. the association between exposure toSalmonella enterica(SE)and.Crohn’s d.sease(Cd.and.its clinical implications in Chilean ***:Ninety-four unrelated.Chilean Cd.patients from CAREI(Active Cohort Registry of Inflammatory Bowel d.sease)presenting to a single inflammatory bowel d.sease(IBd.unit of a University Hospital were prospectively includ.d.in this stud..A complete clinical evaluation,includ.ng smoking history,was performed.at the initial visit,and.all the important d.ta of clinical evolution of Cd.were *** samples from these Cd.patients and.88 healthy sex-and.agematched.control subjects were analyzed.for exposure to SE and.for their NOd./CARd.5 gene status using the presence of anti-Salmonella lipopolysaccharid. antibod.es[immunoglobulin-G type(IgG)]and.polymerase chain reaction(PCR),*** also evaluated.exposure to SE in 90 sex-and.age-matched.patients without Cd.but with known smoking status(30 smokers,30 non-smokers,and.30 former smokers).RESULTS:Cd.patients comprised.54 females and.40males,aged.35.5±15.2 years at d.agnosis with a mean follow-up of 9.0±6.8 *** was inflammatory in 59 patients(62.7%),stricturing in 24(25.5%)and.penetrating in 15(15.5%).Thirty cases(31.9%)had.lesions in the ileum,29(30.8%)had.ileocolonic lesions,32(34.0%)had.colonic lesions and.23(24.4%)had.perianal *** Cd.patients(17%)were exposed.to SE compared.to 15(17%)of 88 healthy control subjects(P=0.8).Thirty-one Cd.patients(32.9%)were smokers,and.7(7.4%)were former smokers at *** the group exposed.to SE,10 of 16 patients(62.5%)were active smokers compared.to 21 of 78 patients(26.9%)in the unexposed.group(P=0.01).On the other hand.10 of 31 smoking patients(32%)were exposed.to SE compared.to 5 of 56 nonsmoking patients(9%),and.one of the seven former smokers(14%)(P=0.01).In the group of 90 patients without Cd.but whose smoking status was known,there was no d.ffer-ence in exposure to SE[3 of 30 smokers(10%),5 of30 non-s

Steam-assisted.gravity d.ainage(SAGd.is a mature technology for bitumen recovery from oil ***,it is an energy-intensive process that requires large amounts of steam to heat and.mobilize *** purpose of this work is to d.velop ways to enhance SAGd.performance through the use of organic base *** research is approached.from three focus areas that supplement and.guid. each other:characterization tests,sand.pack flood.,and.computational simulation.A number of key mechanisms for enhancing oil recovery were id.ntified.high-temperature ad.itive characterization tests were d.veloped.and.promising alkalis were tested.in porous *** was employed.to history-match sand.ack flood.prod.ction d.ta,in ord.r to d.monstrate the effect of an ad.itive on the oil–water relative *** on these results,it was conclud.d.that oxygenated.organic bases had.the most potential for improving bitumen recovery through red.cing the oil–water interfacial tension(IFT)by increasing the pH of the *** organic bases favorably mod.fy the interfacial energies between the immiscible oil–water phases and.enable them to flow easily through the porous med.a d.ring ***-pack flood.tests have successfully d.monstrated.a 10%–15%improvement in bitumen recovery,over baseline,in the presence of IFT-red.cing *** results further showed.that an IFT red.ction had.a positive impact on SAGd.*** work d.monstrates the potential of organic bases to improve not only SAGd.but other steam injection ***,a number of experimental method. were d.veloped.tried.and.tested.d.ring the course of this work.
