Impact of the Brink-Axel hypothesis on unique first-forbiddenβ-transitions for r-process nuclei

Key nuclear inputs for the astrophysical r-process simulations are the weak interaction ***,the accuracy of these inputs directly affects the reliability of nucleosynthesis *** majority of the stellar rates,used in simulation studies are calculated by invoking the Brink-Axel(BA)*** BA hypothesis assumes that the strength functions of all parent excited states are the same as for the ground state,only shifted in ***,the BA hypothesis has to be tested against microscopically calculated state-by-state *** this project,we study the impact of the BA hypothesis on calculated stellarβ^(-)-decay and electron capture *** investigation include both unique first forbidden(U1F)and allowed transitions for 106 neutron-rich trans-iron nuclei([27,77]≤[Z,A]≤[82,208]).The calculations were performed using the deformed proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation(pn-QRPA)model with a simple plus quadrupole separable and schematic ***-point and several key r-process nuclei lie within the considered mass region of the nuclear *** computed electron capture andβ^(-)-decay rates using two different prescriptions for strength *** was based on invoking the BA hypothesis and the other was the state-by-state calculation of strength functions,under stellar density and temperature conditions([10,1]≤[ρYe(g/cm^(3)),T(GK)]≤[10^(11),30]).Our results show that the BA hypothesis invoked U1Fβ^(-)rates are overestimated by 4–5 orders of magnitude as compared to microscopic *** capture rates,more than two orders of magnitude differences were noted when applying the BA *** was concluded that the BA hypothesis is not a reliable approximation,especially forβ^(-)-decay forbidden transitions.

The CNO cycle is the main source of energy in stars more massive than our *** process defines the energy production,the duration of which can be used to determine the lifetime of massive *** cycle is an important tool for determining the age of globular *** proton capture via p+^(14)N→^(15)O+γ,at energies of astrophysical interest,is an important process in the CNO *** this project,we apply a potential model to describe both non-resonant and resonant reactions in the channels where radiative capture occurs through electric e1 *** employed the R-matrix method to describe the ongoing reactions via M1 resonant transitions,when it was not possible to correctly reproduce the experimental data using the potential *** partial components of the astrophysical S-factor are calculated for all possible electric and magnetic dipole transitions in ^(15)*** linear extrapolated S-factor at zero energy(S(0))agrees well with earlier reported values for all transition types considered in this *** on the value of the total astrophysical S-factor,depending on the collision energy,we calculate the nuclear reaction rates for p+^(14)N→^(15)O+γ.The computed rates agree well with the results reported in the NACRe II Collaboration and most recent existing measurements.

This review article provides overall understanding of stainless,environment-friendly,and nonflammable Mg alloys(SeN alloys)recently developed at the Korea Institute of Materials *** alloys are produced by adding small amounts of Ca and Y(eachercial Mg–Al based alloys,resulting in exceptional ignition and corrosion resistances and impressive mechanical *** main advantages of SeN alloys are as follows.(1)A dense multi-oxide layer of SeN alloys comprising MgO,CaO,and Y_(2)O_(3) impedes the outward dispersion of Mg vapor and the inward penetration of O_(2) during oxidation,thereby enhancing the oxidation and ignition resistances.(2)The presence of Ca-and Y-based second-phase particles in SeN alloys can enhance their corrosion resistance because Ca-containing particles prevent the spread of corrosion,and the replacement of Al-containing particles with less noble ones containing Y(e.g.,Al–Mn–Y or Al–Y particles)retards corrosion.(3)The addition of minor amounts of Ca and Y renders excellent mechanical properties due to improved strengthening *** enhanced properties are attributed to more pronounced dynamic recrystallization and grain refining behaviors caused by the second-phase particles during extrusion.(4)Despite the presence of various types of second-phase particles,the fatigue properties of SeN9 alloys are similar to those of commercial AZ91 alloys.(5)Simultaneous introduction of Ca and Y suppresses the formation of Mg17Al12 discontinuous precipitates during aging,leading to the enhanced elongation of aged SeN alloys.(6)Adding mischmetal into the SeN9 alloy leads to a six-fold enhancement in ***,the studies conducted on SeN alloys demonstrate their excellent ignition and corrosion resistances and mechanical properties,which broaden the industrial applications of Mg alloys by addressing their inherent weaknesses.

BACKGROunD Vaccine hesitancy is a major challenge in the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** the sociodemographic factors associated with vaccine acceptance among Nigerians is crucial for improving vaccine *** To assess the acceptance rate of COVID-19 vaccine and its related determinants among *** An online cross-sectional survey(observational study)was conducted between February 2021 and May 2021,using a questionnaire hosted on *** invitation to take part in the poll was sent out to participants through social networking platforms.A logistic regression was used to determine which sociodemographic factors were associated with vaccine acceptance *** A total of 1800 persons responded to the survey,a larger proportion of whom were males(53.9%)and within the age group of 21-30 years(29.4%)and earned an average income of less than$500 per month(43.3%).Only 0.56%of participants had a high perceived risk of COVID-19 infection,while only 1.11%had a perceived risk of dying from *** perception rate of the COVID-19 vaccine among participants was 51.1%,while the acceptance rate was 63.9%.There was no significant association between the COVID-19 vaccine acceptance rate and related determinants assessed,particularly age(χ²=3.049,P=0.550),sex(χ²=0.102,P=0.749),average income(χ²=3.802,P=0.875),and religion(χ²=2.819,P=0.420).Participants with chronic conditions demonstrated a higher acceptance rate compared to the general *** Despite the positive perception observed and substantial vaccine acceptance rate among the study participants,more public health interventions are still needed to enhance vaccine acceptability in Nigeria.

effects of surface roughness on bending properties of rolled AZ31 alloy

This study investigated the effects of mechanical-polishing-induced surface roughness and the direction of polishing lines on the bending properties of a rolled AZ31 *** this end,three-point bending tests were performed on one sample without polishing lines(SS sample)and two samples with polishing lines—one in which the polishing lines were parallel to the rolling direction(RS-RD sample)and the other in which they were parallel to the transverse direction(RS-TD sample).In all three samples,macrocracks were formed in the width direction on the outer surface,where tensile stress was predominantly generated in the longitudinal ***,the macrocracks formed in the SS sample were curved because of the merging of uniformly formed fine microcracks,whereas those formed in the RS-TD sample were linear owing to the formation of relatively coarse microcracks along the polishing *** bendability of the samples was in the order of SS>RS-RD>RS-TD,and their limiting bending depths were 4.8,4.6,and 4.4 mm,*** the presence of mechanical-polishing-induced surface roughness,polishing lines perpendicular to the direction of the major stress(i.e.,tensile stress along the longitudinal direction)resulted in a greater degree of stress concentration on the outer surface of the bending *** higher stress concentration promoted the formation of undesirable{10–11}contraction and{10–11}–{10–12}double twins—which typically act as crack initiation sites—and thereby facilitated crack generation and ***,the surface roughness caused premature fracture during bending deformation,which,in turn,caused deterioration of the bendability of the rolled Mg alloy.

A consensus meeting of national experts from all major national hepatobiliary centres in the country was held on May 26,2023,at the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute&Research Centre(PKLI&RC)after initial consultations with the *** Pakistan Society for the Study of Liver Diseases(PSSLD)and PKLI&RC jointly organised this *** effort was based on a comprehensive literature review to establish national practice guidelines for hilar cholangiocarcinoma(hCCA).The consensus was that hCCA is a complex disease and requires a multidisciplinary team approach to best manage these *** coordinated effort can minimise delays and give patients a chance for curative treatment and effective *** diagnostic and staging workup includes high-quality computed tomography,magnetic resonance imaging,and magnetic resonance *** cytology or biopsy utilizing endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is a mainstay for ***,histopathologic confirmation is not always required before *** ultrasound with fine needle aspiration of regional lymph nodes and positron emission tomography scan are valuable adjuncts for *** only curative treatment is the surgical resection of the biliary tree based on the Bismuth-Corlette *** patients with unresectable hCCA can be considered for liver *** chemotherapy should be offered to patients with a high risk of *** use of preoperative biliary drainage and the need for portal vein embolisation should be based on local multidisciplinary *** with acute cholangitis can be drained with endoscopic or percutaneous biliary *** chemotherapy with cisplatin and gemcitabine has shown improved survival in patients with irresectable and recurrent hCCA.

Spiking neural P systems are a class of distributed and parallel computing models inspired by spiking *** this work,the features of neuron division and neuron budding are introduced into the framework of spiking neural P systems,which are processes inspired by neural stem cell division. With neuron division and neuron budding,a spiking neural P system can generate exponential work space in polynomial time as the case for P systems with active *** this way,spiking neural P systems can efficiently solve computationally hard problems by means of a space-time tradeoff,which is illustrated with an efficient solution to SAT problem.

A possible relationship between serum sex hormones and benign prostatic hyperplasia/Iower urinary tract symptoms in men who underwent transurethral prostate resection

In this study, we examined the relationship between sex hormone levels and lower urinary tract symptoms （LUTS） in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia （BPH） who underwent transurethral surgery. The study was conducted in 158 patients who came to our hospital for surgery. Clinical conditions were assessed by body mass index （BMI）, digital rectal examination, International Prostate Symptom Score （IPSS） and transrectal ultrasound （TRUS）. The levels of sex hormones （including total testosterone （TT）, estradiol （e2）, progesterone （P）, luteinizing hormone （LH）, follicle-stimulating hormone （FSH） and prolactin （PRL）） and prostate-specific antigen （PSA） were reviewed. Correlations were determined through statistical analysis. The mean age was 72.06 _＋ 8.68 years. The total IPSS was significantly associated with the TT level （r = -0.21, P = 0.01）. Other sex hormone levels were not correlated with total IPSS. However, some ratios such as e2/TT （r = 0.23, P = 0o00） and FSH/LH （r = -0.17, P = 0.04） were associated with total IPSS. Further analysis showed that the nocturia was associated with age （r = 0.16, P = 0.04）, BMI （r = 0.21, P = 0.01）, and TT （r = -0.19, P = 0.02）. Moreover, we divided the patients into two subgroups based on IPSS severity （〈20 or 〉20）. The mean TT level was in the normal range, but it was significantly related to the presence of severe LUTS. In summary, our study has shown that the severity of LUTS is associated with TT, eJTT and FSH/LH in men who underwent prostate surgery. Increasing nocturia was observed in lower testosterone patients. Additional larger studies are needed to elucidate the potential mechanisms.

effects of carbonization temperatures on microstructure of carbon fiber precursors prepared from liquefied wood

In order to enlarge the utilization field of wood and decrease the costs of carbon fibers, carbon fiber precursors from liquefied wood were prepared by soaking liquefied wood in a solution containing hydrochloric acid and formaldehyde, after melt-spinning by adding hexamethylenetetramine. The microstructure evolution of the precursor during carbonization was studied by FTIR, X-ray analysis and Raman spectroscopy. The results show that precursors from liquefied wood above 400℃had diffraction peaks corresponding to the （100） crystal plane. When the carbonization temperature reached 500℃, Raman spectroscopy showed the D peak at wave number of 1360 cm^-1 and the G peak at 1595 cm^-1. By increasing the carbonization temperature, the microstructure of the precursors became more ordered. Although the structure of the precursor changed at 500 and 800℃, the peaks at 1632 and 1454 cm^-1 corresponding to the characteristic vibrations of aromatic rings, remained during carbonization. This implies that the precursor from liquefied wood cannot be easily formed into graphite.
