Polyethersulphone(PES)membranes modified with urethane functional groups were prepared through an interfacial reaction using electron beam *** removal of eight endocrine disrupting chemicals(EDCs)was studied using both pristine and functionalized PES *** prepared membranes underwent characterization using several techniques,including attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared(ATR-FTIR)spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy,contact angle analysis,and measurements of pure water ***,dynamic adsorption experiments were conducted to evaluate the adsorption mechanism of the prepared membrane toward the eight *** urethane functionalized membranes were hydrophilic(52°contact angle)and maintained a high permeate flux(26000 l/h m^(2) bar)throughout the filtration *** adsorption results demonstrated that the introduction of urethane functional groups on the membranes significantly enhanced the removal efficiency of 17β-estradiol,estriol,bisphenol A,estrone,ethinylestradiol,and *** adsorption loading of 17β-estradiol on the functionalized PES membrane was 6.7±0.7 mg/m^(2),exhibiting a 5-fold increase compared to the unmodified PES *** membranes were successfully regenerated and reused for three adsorption cycles without experiencing any loss of adsorption capacity.

Introduction: Medical imaging is a medical specialty that involves producing images of the human body and interpreting them for diagnostic, therapeutic purposes, and for monitoring the progress of pathologies. We aimed to assess the theoretical knowledge of doctors and interns in medical imaging in the northern region of Burkina Faso. Methodology: This was a descriptive cross-sectional survey based on a self-administered questionnaire. Prescribers knowledge was estimated based on scores derived from questionnaire responses. Results: We collected 106 questionnaires out of 163, i.e. a participation rate of 65.03%. The average knowledge score was 81.71% for the contribution of medical imaging to patient management. It was 60.02% for the indications/counter-indications of radiological examinations and 72.56% for the risks associated with exposure to radiation during these examinations. The score was 59.83% for the methods used to select the appropriate radiological examination. As regards the completeness of the clinical and biological information on the forms requesting imaging examinations, the score was 96.65%. Specialist doctors had the highest overall level of knowledge (74.68%). Conclusion: Improved technical facilities, good initial and in-service training, and interdisciplinary collaboration will help to ensure that imaging tests are properly prescribed, leading to better patient care.

Introduction: Urinary lithiasis is defining as a condition characterized by the formation of concretions in the kidneys or urinary excretory tract. We aimed to study professional practice in CT urinary lithiasis at CHUYO. Materials and method: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection covering 3 years from January 2017 to December 2019. Results: In general, it was noted that CT scans in our environment provide all the elements needed by urologists to diagnose urinary lithiasis and its impact on the urinary system. However, there are shortcomings, particularly in terms of the accuracy of the shape and density of the stones in the CT scan reports, which does not make it easier for urologists to decide on treatment. Conclusion: Computed tomography plays a major role in the diagnosis and therapeutic management of urinary lithiasis, and its use needs to be improved in our context.

A high-altitude peat sequence from the heart of the Spanish Central System(Gredos range) was analysed through a multi-proxy approach to determine the sensitivity of high-mountain habitats to climate, fire and land use changes during the last seven hundred years, providing valuable insight into our understanding of the vegetation history and environmental changes in a mountain pass close to a traditional route of transhumance. The pollen data indicate that the vegetation was dominated by shrublands and grasslands with scattered pines in high-mountain areas, while in the valleys cereals, chestnut and olive trees were cultivated. Strong declines of high-mountain pines percentages are recorded at 1540, 1675, 1765, 1835 and 1925 cal AD, which may be related to increasing grazing activities and/or the occurrence of anthropogenic fires. The practice of mountain summer farming and transhumance deeply changed and redesigned the landscape of the high altitudes in central Spain(Gredos range) since the Middle Ages, although its dynamics was influenced in some way by climate variability of the past seven centuries.

OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to characterize the neurotransmitter systems that cause constriction of murine *** Murine precision cut lung slices(PClS)and trachea were prepared,placed into perfusion chambers equipped with platinum electrodes and stimulated transmurally(1.0 ms,50 V,0.1-30 Hz).To measure PClS constriction,changes in airway luminal area in response to electric field stimulation(EFS)were captured as video images quantified using Image J *** trachea,changes in isometric tension were recorded using Grass force *** response curves were generated in the absence and the presence of the inhibitors magnesium,atropine and capsaicin and responses analyzed and compared using a student's t-test(PlTS EFS caused airway constriction in a frequency-dependent manner that was best fit by a biphasic ***-specific stimulation was verified by Mg^(2+) *** airway constriction to 30 Hz EFS in PClS was(51.8±3.0)%while tracheal constriction averaged(551±80)***,in PClS the muscarinic receptor antagonist atropine(10μmol·l^(-1))blocked(99.5±7.2)%of EFS induced constriction at 1 Hz,but only blocked(23.3±3.8)%of EFS induced constriction at 30 Hz and eliminated the first phase but not the second phase of the biphasic EFS *** with capsaicin to deplete sensory neurotransmitters significantly increased EFS constriction supporting the presence of sensory neurotransmitter systems in *** These data are consistent with parasympathetic constriction of airways by acetylcholine at lower EFS frequencies while higher frequencies release sensory dilator *** data provide evidence for multiple nerve types innervating airways which may provide novel targets for treatment of lung disease.

The influence of particle size and ionic strength on the freeze-thaw(FT) stability of emulsions stabilized by whey protein isolate(WPI) was investigated in this study. The destabilization of emulsions during the FT process could be suppressed in a way by decreasing the particle size of the initial emulsions, which was the result of retarding the coalescence between oil droplets. To further improve the FT stability of emulsions, different amounts of Na Cl were added before emulsification. The emulsions with the ionic strength at 30–50 mmol/l exhibited good FT stability. Notably, the ionic strength in this range would not lower the freezing point of emulsions below the freezing temperature used in this study. Salt addition could improve the structural properties of proteins, which was available to strengthen the rigidity and thickness of interfacial layers, sequentially building up the resistance that the destruction of ice crystals to emulsions. Moreover, stronger flocculation between emulsion droplets could promote the formation of a gel-like network structure dominated by elasticity in the emulsion system, which might effectively inhibit the movement of droplets, and improve the FT stability of emulsions eventually. The result was of great significance for the preparation of emulsion-based foods with improved FT stability.
