Turmeric is an herbal plant that is widely used as a traditional herbal medicine in many countries. Curcumin displays its anti-viral activities through several mechanisms of action. In this case report we present a 10-year-old child with herpetic vesiculo-ulcerative lesions who was treated with turmeric along with systemic acyclovir which resulted in complete healing by the third day of application.

随着技术和工业的发展,挥发性有机化合物(VOCs)的泄露变得不可避免。许多VOCs对人类健康和环境构成了严重威胁。所以挥发性有机化合物的探测是非常重要且急切的。金属氧化物半导体(MOS),如WO、Zn O、SnO、Ni O、CuO和InO已被用于VOCs的检测。n型SnO因具有良好的化学和热稳定性、电子迁移率高、成本低等优点,是目前最好的金属氧化物半导体材料之一。合成SnO纳米材料的方法主要有化学气相沉积法、溅射法、水热法和溶胶-凝胶法。其中,水热法操作简单,成本低廉。本研究在没有模板的情况下,通过水热法成功合成了纯SnO纳米颗粒。在另一项工作中,采用水热法合成了掺杂Sn的复合金属氧化物BiWO,并对其进行了研究。通过x射线衍射(XRd)、扫描显微镜(SEM)、透射电子显微镜(TEM)、x射线光电子能谱(XPS)、比表面积测试法(BET)和能量色散X射线光谱仪(EdX)等技术对所得样品进行了分析。并对材料的气敏性能和机理进行了探讨。本文的工作内容主要包括以下三个部分:1.在不采用模板的条件下,利用水热法成功制备出花状SnO。SEM和TEM的表征结果表明,粗糙表面四方结构的SnO具有优良的气敏性能。SnO花状结构的气敏测实验表明,SnO对100 ppm浓度的甲醛气体的选择性可达30,最佳工作温度为220℃,响应时间为5 s,恢复时间为22 s。2.采用无模板水热法制备出了纯的SnO纳米颗粒。并对SnO纳米颗粒进行了EdX、XRd、SEM和TEM等表征。气敏测试结果表明,在180℃条件下,制备的纳米SnO颗粒对乙醇的选择性高,响应速度快(约27s),检测极限低(5ppm),响应和恢复时间分别仅为4s和2s。SnO优异的气敏性能使其成为乙醇检测的重要材料之一。3.近年来,复合金属氧化物BiWO在气体检测的应用方面引起了人们的广泛关注。然而,在大多数情况下,BiWO传感器的工作温度相当高。因此本研究采用一步水热法制备了Sn掺杂BiWO片状纳米结构材料。气敏测试结果表明,5 wt%Sn掺杂BiWO对异丙醇具有良好的气敏性,最佳工作温度为260℃,并且对低浓度的异丙醇仍具有良好的响应。分析发现这是由于二维片状纳米结构之间独特的界面相互作用与掺杂的Sn原子在BiWO表面提供了额外的催化活性位点,从而提高了电响应性和气敏性。在本文中,可以看到材料的形貌可以影响气敏性能,高比表面积对气敏性能的提高是有益的,同时掺杂也是提高响应和降低工作温度的重要途径之一。

AIM: To develop a mathematical model for the early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with a panel of serum proteins in combination with α-fetoprotein (AFP).METHOdS: Serum levels of interleukin (IL)-8, soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1), soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor II (sTNF-RII), proteasome, and β-catenin were measured in 479 subjects categorized into four groups: (1) HCC concurrent with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection (n = 192); (2) HCV related liver cirrhosis (LC) (n = 96); (3) Chronic hepatitis C (CHC) (n = 96); and (4) Healthy controls (n = 95). The R package and different modules for binary and multi-class classifiers based on generalized linear models were used to model the data. Predictive power was used to evaluate the performance of the model. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis over pairs of groups was used to identify the best cutoffs differentiating the different ***: We revealed mathematical models, based on a binary classifier, made up of a unique panel of serum proteins that improved the individual performance of AFP in discriminating HCC patients from patients with chronic liver disease either with or without cirrhosis. We discriminated the HCC group from the cirrhotic liver group using a mathematical model (-11.3 + 7.38 × Prot + 0.00108 × sICAM + 0.2574 × β-catenin + 0.01597 × AFP) with a cutoff of 0.6552, which achieved 98.8% specificity and 89.1% sensitivity. For the discrimination of the HCC group from the CHC group, we used a mathematical model [-10.40 + 1.416 × proteasome + 0.002024 × IL + 0.004096 × sICAM-1 + (4.251 × 10-4) × sTNF + 0.02567 × β-catenin + 0.02442 × AFP] with a cutoff 0.744 and achieved 96.8% specificity and 89.7% sensitivity. Power dependent study of optical nonlinear absorption coefficient of semiconductor-plasmonic hybrid nanocomposites of CdSe:Au was investigated using Z-scan technique, provided with nanosecond pulses of second harmonic Nd:YAG laser. The prepared materials were characterized with linear absorption and High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (HRTEM) which confirm the quantum confinement of CdSe as well as the formation of CdSe:Au core shell quantum dots. An analysis of power dependence open aperture Z-scan was discussed. A change from saturable absorption (SA) to reverse saturable absorption (RSA) is observed with increasing the laser power. Also, an enhancement of the nonlinear absorption coefficient of CdSe:Au of larger sizes compared to Au nanoparticles was detected.

In this paper, the magneto hydrodynamic (MHd) flow of viscous fluid in a channel with non-parallel plates is studied. The governing partial differential equation was transformed into a system of dimensionless non-similar coupled ordinary differential equation. The transformed conservations equations were solved by using new algorithm. Basically, this new algorithm depends mainly on the Taylor expansion application with the coefficients of power series resulting from integrating the order differential equation. Results obtained from new algorithm are compared with the results of numerical Range-Kutta fourth-order algorithm with help of the shooting algorithm. The comparison revealed that the resulting solutions were excellent agreement. Thermo-diffusion and diffusion-thermo effects were investigated to analyze the behavior of temperature and concentration profile. Also the influences of the first order chemical reaction and the rate of mass and heat transfer were studied. The computed analytical solution result for the velocity, temperature and concentration distribution with the effect of various important dimensionless parameters was analyzed and discussed graphically.

Aim: In vitro studies have shown that iron promotes osteoclast differentiation and bone-resorbing activity by enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis, whereas it suppresses osteoblastogenesis. In postmenopausal women, serum ferritin increases by 2 - 3 times due to the lack of a major mechanism of iron excretion, while menstrual blood decreases. Based on this observation, it has been hypothesized that in addition to estrogen deficiency, increased iron as a result of menopause could contribute to bone loss in postmenopausal women. So our aim was to investigate the association between serum ferritin levels and bone mineral density (BMd) in elderly women at various skeletal sites. Methods: Retrospective analysis of the medical records of 71 postmenopausal women having a mean age of (66 ± 7) years (range 60 - 83 years) was done. The collected data included age of menopause, past medical history, smoking habits, physical activity, and medication use. BMd was measured at the lumbar spine and femur by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, and other biochemical markers including, serum ferritin, 25 hydroxyvitamin d3, serum alkaline phosphatase, and parathyroid hormone were assayed. Results: We found that serum ferritin levels are significantly related to BMd of the total hip and lumbar vertebrae [with a p value of (0.01) and ( Conclusion: This study suggests a positive association between serum ferritin levels and BMd in elderly women without hematologic disorders. Further study is warranted to verify the effects of iron on bone metabolism.
