Evaluation of hypolipidemic marrubium vulgare effect in Triton WR-1339-induced hyperlipidemia in mice

Objective: To evaluate the hypocholesterolemic and hypotriglyceridemic activities of four marrbium vulgare(m. vulgare) herb extracts using Triton WR-1339-induced hyperlipidemia in mice. methods: Hyperlipidemia was developed by intraperitoneal injection of Triton(200 mg/kg body weight). The animals were divided into main four groups of eight mice each: normal control group, hyperlipidemic control group, hyperlipidemic plus tween-40 control and treated group. The fourth one was divided into four subgroups, petroleum ether extract group, chloroform extract group, ethyl acetate extract group and methanol extract treated group each of them contains two sub-sub group for treating animals with two doses at 0.1 and 0.25 LD50. Results: After 7 h and 24 h of treatment, the intragastric administration of all extracts caused a significant decrease of plasma total cholesterol. Triglyceride levels were also significantly lowered by all extracts while petroleum ether produced the lowest decreasing level. Similar results were observed for LDL-cholesterol concentrations. Furthermore, more polar extracts(methanol and ethyl acetate)-soluble fractions showed a significant ameliorative action on elevated atherogenic index(AI) and LDL/HDL-C ratios, while these atherogenic markers were not statistically suppressed by the chloroform and petroleum ether-soluble extract. Conclusion: The findings indicated that marrubium may contain polar products able to lower plasma lipid concentrations and might be beneficial in treatment of hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis.

Safety and efficacy of ultrasound ciliary plasty as a primary intervention in glaucoma patients

AIm: To evaluate the safety and the efficacy of the ultrasound ciliary plasty(UCP) on the intraocular pressure(IOP) control in glaucomatous eyes without previous glaucoma ***: A retrospective study included patients with primary and secondary glaucoma who underwent UCP in Dar Al Shifa Hospital, Kuwait between January 2017 to June 2018. High-intensity focused ultrasound procedures were performed under peribulbar anesthesia using the 2^(nd) generation probe with 8 s duration of each of the 6 shots. Complete ophthalmologic examinations were scheduled pre-treatment, and at 1 d, 1 wk, 1, 3, 6 and 12 mo posttreatment. Primary outcomes were the IOP reduction and success rates at 12 mo, while the secondary outcomes were the occurrence of vision threatening complications and visual ***: The records of 62 eyes of 62 patients were analyzed with mean age of 63.8 y(67.7% males). There was statistically significant reduction in the mean IOP from 35.2±8.3 mm Hg before treatment to 20.6±8.7 mm Hg at 12^(th) month(Pmean percentage IOP reduction of 42.3% with significant reduction in the mean number of antiglaucomatous drugs from 3.2±0.4 before treatment to 2.1±1.02 at 12 mo(Pmo. No major intra-or posttreatment complications were ***: Second-generation UCP prove to be effective in reducing IOP in naive glaucoma patients with lower success rates in cases of neovascular and uveitic glaucomas.

Grape Seed Extract (<i>Vitisvinifera</i>) Alleviate Neurotoxicity and Hepatotoxicity Induced by Lead Acetate in male Albino Rats

Grape seed extracts (GSE) are very potent antioxidant and exhibit numerous interesting pharmacologic activities, including an antioxidant property, and has been suggested to be of use in treatment of several diseases. The present study has been undertaken to investigate the protective and therapeutic effect of GSE against lead-induced neuro and hepatotoxicity in rat. male albino rats were divided into six groups: the 1st group, rats were injected daily with saline vehicle and served as negative control, the 2nd group (positive control group), the rats were injected (i.p.) with subacute dose (100 mg/kg b·w/day) of lead acetate (LA). The 3rd group (protective group), the rats were injected (i.p.) with LA (100 mg/kg b·w/day) for 7 days after treatment with GSE (100 mg/kg b·w/day) for 3 weeks. The 4th, 5th and 6th groups (therapeutics groups), rats were injected (i.p.) with subacut dose (100 mg/kg b·w/day) of lead acetate for 7 days, then treated with GSE (100 mg/kg b·w/day) for one, two and three weeks, respectively. The level of norepinephrine (NE), dopamine (DA), serotonin (5-HT) and 5-hydroxyindol acetic acid (5-HIAA) were evaluated in brain regions (cerebellum, brainstem, striatum, cerebral cortex, hypothalamus and hippocampus). The result indicated that the administration of subacute dose of LA (100 mg/kg/day, i.p.) induce a significant decrease in NE, DA, 5-HT and 5-HIAA content in all tested brain regions. Also the obtained data showed significant increase in liver enzymes: serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (GPT) and Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level in group 2 (positive control). There is an improvement in neurotransmitters content. BACKGROUND Endoscopic ultrasonography(EUS)has become an established method in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in gastroenterology;however,it has recently gained a growing role in *** To evaluate the role of EUS features,strain elastography(SE),and EUS-tissue acquisition in diagnosing hepatic focal lesions(HFLs)that could affect further *** This cross-sectional study included 215 patients with pancreatic,biliary,or gastrointestinal malignancies referred for EUS *** were identified in 43 patients(20%),and EUSguided tissue acquisition was performed from these *** EUS features were highly sensitive(100%)but much less specific(57%)in diagnosing HFLs;the overall accuracy was 94%.Real-time elastography was also very sensitive(97%)but less specific(67%)in diagnosing HFLs;however,the overall accuracy was 92%.EUS tissue acquisition was extremely sensitive(100%)and specific(100%),with a 100%overall diagnostic *** The diagnostic utility of EUS-guided tissue acquisition was extremely accurate in diagnosing *** characteristics and real-time SE accurately predicted the histological diagnosis of both benign and malignant HFLs.

An Efficient GCD-Based Cancelable Biometric Algorithm for Single and multiple Biometrics

Cancelable biometrics are required in most remote access applications that need an authentication stage such as the cloud and Internet of Things(IoT)*** objective of using cancelable biometrics is to save the original ones from hacking attempts.A generalized algorithm to generate cancelable templates that is applicable on both single and multiple biometrics is proposed in this paper to be considered for cloud and IoT *** original biometric is blurred with two co-prime ***,it can be recovered as the Greatest Common Divisor(GCD)between its two blurred *** changes if induced in the biometric image prior to processing with co-prime operators prevents the recovery of the original biometric image through a GCD ***,the ability to change cancelable templates is guaranteed,since the owner of the biometric can pre-determine and manage the minimal change induced in the biometric ***,we test the utility of the proposed algorithm in the single-and multi-biometric *** multi-biometric scenario depends on compressing face,fingerprint,iris,and palm print images,simultaneously,to generate the cancelable *** metrics such as Equal Error Rate(EER)and Area and Receiver Operator Characteristic curve(AROC)are *** results on single-and multi-biometric scenarios show high AROC values up to 99.59%,and low EER values down to 0.04%.

Effects of penicillamine, hypotaurine, and epinephrine on motility, hyperactivity, acrosome reaction of fresh ram sperm

Objective:To determine the effects of different concentrations of penicillamine, hypotaurine, and epinephrine (PHE) as well as incubation time on motility, hyperactivity and acrosome reaction (AR) of ram spermin ***: Freshly ejaculated spermatozoa from three ram were collected, pooled and subjected to swim up technique in modified sperm Tyrode's albumin lactate pyruvate medium supplemented with different concentrations of PHE (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75 and 100 mm/mL). Then best concentrations were compared and examined for motility, hyperactivity and ***: A high concentrations of PHE (30, 40, 50, 75 and 100mm/mL) showed a significant increase in motility when compared to control immediately after dilution and exist for the first and second hour of incubation period. However, when longer incubation time were used, a significant (Pmotility was achieved. Similar finding was observed in hyperactivity. Stained semen samples showed a maximum percentage of incomplete AR after 1 h incubation corresponding to 50 and 75 mm/mL of PHE;however, spermatozoa treated with 75 mm/mL had a higher tendency to undergo complete AR after further incubation up to 4 h. A dose dependent relationship was detected where the maximum value of total AR was shown in spermatozoa treated with 75 mm/mL PHE for 4 h. Conclusions: To obtain better motility, hyperactivity and AR, treatment of ram spermatozoa with 75 mm/mL PHE for 4 h before being used in insemination was considered the best concentration of PHE to be used in the process ofin-vitro fertilization.

Toward cost-effective residential energy reduction and community impacts: A data-based machine learning approach
