Epigenetics in the etiology and management of infertility

BACKGROUND Epigenetic disruptions have been implicated in some cases of infertility and can serve as therapeutic targets.However,the involvement of epigenetics in infertility has not received adequate attention.AIM This study aimed to determine the epigenetic basis of infertility in order to enhance public knowledge.METHODS Relevant articles on the subject were collected from PubMed,RCA,Google Scholar,SpringerLink,and Scopus.The articles were pooled together and duplicates were removed using Endnote software.RESULTS Available information shows that epigenetic mechanisms,mainly DNA methylation,histone modification,and microRNA interference are necessary for normal gametogenesis and embryogenesis.As a result,epigenetic disruptions in genes that control gametogenesis and embryogenesis,such as DDX3X,ADH4,AZF,PLAG1,D1RAS3,CYGB,MEST,JMJD1A,KCNQ1,IGF2,H19,and MTHFR may result in infertility.Aberrant DNA methylation during genomic imprinting and parental epigenetic mark erasures,in particular,may affect the DNA epigenomes of sperm and oocytes,resulting in reproductive abnormalities.in the sperm may also cause reproductive abnormalities.Furthermore,overexpression or repression of certain microRNAs embedded in the ovary,testis,embryo,as well as granulosa cells and oocytes may impair reproduction.Male infertility is characterized by spermatogenesis failure,which includes oligozoospermia,asthenozoospermia,and teratozoospermia,while female infertility is characterized by polycystic ovary syndrome.Some epigenetic modifications can be reversed by deactivating the regulatory enzymes,implying that epigenetic reprogramming could help treat infertility in some cases.For some disorders,epigenetic drugs are available,but none have been formulated for infertility.CONCLUSION Some cases of infertility have an epigenetic etiology and can be treated by reversing the same epigenetic mechanism that caused it.As a result,medical practitioners are urged to come up with epigenetic treatments for infertility that have an epigenetic cause.

Cybernet Model:A New Deep Learning Model for Cyber DDoS Attacks Detection and Recognition

Cyberspace is extremely dynamic,with new attacks arising daily.Protecting cybersecurity controls is vital for network security.Deep Learning(DL)models find widespread use across various fields,with cybersecurity being one of the most crucial due to their rapid cyberattack detection capabilities on networks and hosts.The capabilities of DL in feature learning and analyzing extensive data volumes lead to the recognition of network traffic patterns.This study presents novel lightweight DL models,known as Cybernet models,for the detection and recognition of various cyber Distributed Denial of Service(DDoS)attacks.These models were constructed to have a reasonable number of learnable parameters,i.e.,less than 225,000,hence the name“lightweight.”This not only helps reduce the number of computations required but also results in faster training and inference times.Additionally,these models were designed to extract features in parallel from 1D Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN)and Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM),which makes them unique compared to earlier existing architectures and results in better performance measures.To validate their robustness and effectiveness,they were tested on the CIC-DDoS2019 dataset,which is an imbalanced and large dataset that contains different types of DDoS attacks.Experimental results revealed that bothmodels yielded promising results,with 99.99% for the detectionmodel and 99.76% for the recognition model in terms of accuracy,precision,recall,and F1 score.Furthermore,they outperformed the existing state-of-the-art models proposed for the same task.Thus,the proposed models can be used in cyber security research domains to successfully identify different types of attacks with a high detection and recognition rate.

本文考察了中国对外直接投资(CFDI)对非洲农业的影响。本文还探讨了农业与经济增长的关系。15个非洲国家的年度面板数据:加纳、毛里求斯、莫桑比克、突尼斯、摩洛哥、尼日利亚、乌干达、喀麦隆、刚果民主共和国、加蓬、塞内加尔、埃及、南非、赞比亚、,并利用卢旺达检验了2003-2020年中国FDI流入对非洲农业增加值与GDP之比的显著性以及经济增长与农业增加值与GDP之比的关系。控制变量包括固定资本形成总额、通货膨胀率、贸易自由化和人口等因素。本研究采用了多种推理方法。具体而言,我们采用了Pedroni(1999,2004)的面板协整技术;Pesaran等人(1999)MG、PMG和DFE技术;Juodis、Karavias和Sarafidis(2021)的Granger非因果关系方法以及Kao和Chiang(1999年)的DOLS方法;FMOLS方法。面板协整检验表明,我们的数据集中存在协整关系。有趣的是,面板ARDL模型和两步系统GMM模型的实证结果表明,CFDI流入对非洲农业增加值与GDP的比率有着积极的、统计上显著的影响。毫不奇怪,研究结果还表明,实际GDP增长率与农业增加值与GDP之比之间存在正相关关系。DOLS和FMOLS估计器的稳健性检查支持面板ARDL模型的经验结果。实证结果还表明,中国对农业的FDI和经济增长对农业的FDI之间存在显著的格兰杰非因果关系。这表明,中国FDI流入的增加将提高非洲的农业附加值和经济增长。因此,这项研究得出结论,农业对非洲经济增长至关重要。迫切需要采取措施吸引更多旨在提高农业生产率的中国FDI。这项研究的发现将有助于经济发展文献,解决一个重要但尚未研究的研究背景:通过外国直接投资促进农业发展,以支持创造就业机会和总体经济增长,重点是非洲农业。因此,该研究建议非洲国家将其农业部门发展为更加面向出口的部门,使其能够为出口创造最佳价值,而不是原材料,而是半成品,甚至是更精细的材料。这可能会影响我们的经济发展,并显著吸引更多的外国直接投资。

Meningococcal meningitis(MCM)is one of the serious public health threats in the tropical and sub-tropical regions.In this paper,we propose an epidemic model to study the transmission dynamics of MCM with high-and low-risk susceptible populations.The model considers two different groups of susceptible individuals depending on the availability of medical resources(MR,including hospitals,health workers,etc.),which varies the infection risk.We find that the model exhibits the phenomenon of backward bifurcation(BB),which increases the difficulty of MCM control since the dynamics are not merely relying on the basic reproduction number,TZo.This study explores the effects of MR on the MCM epidemics by mathematical analysis and shows the existence of BB on MCM disease.Our findings suggest that providing adequate MR in a community is crucial in mitigating MCM incidences and deaths,especially,in the MCM endemic regions.

Stability of Collinear Points in the Generalized Photogravitational Robes Restricted Three-Body Problem

In studying the effects of radiation and oblateness of the primaries on the stability of collinear equilibrium points in the Robes restricted three-body problem we observed the variations of the density parameter k with the mass parameter μ for constant radiation and oblateness factors on the location and stability of the collin-ear points L1, L2and L3. It is also discovered that the collinear points are unstable for k > 0 and stable for k < 0.

A Fast Predicting Neural Fuzzy Model for Suspended Solid Removal Efficiency in Multimedia Filter

Modeling of filter performance is very difficult because of complexity of the defining physical and chemical events in the filtration system whereas the knowledge of functionality of filter coefficient. The main objective of this study is to predict the performance of multimedia filter and to evaluate both the initial and transient stage of suspended solid removal efficiency depending on experimental data. Fuzzy logic has been used to build a model of multi input and one output (MISO) for the removal efficiency of multimedia filter which it consists from sand and granular activated carbon (GAC) mediums. The control parameters of (FLC) of Sugeno model are seven parameters which are media depths, media grains size for both sand and GAC, filtration rate, diameter of suspension particle, feed concentration, and operation time. The output parameter is removal efficiency of media filter whereas these data are collocated from pilot scale deep bed filter, thus, the removal efficiency of filter was modeled by 575 rules as a function of different control parameters. An adaptive of neuron fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) had used to simulate the experimental data. The simulation results were evaluated using mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), whereas the results showed that the prediction of ANFIS model has a good agreement with experimental data when the MAPE is equal to 7.0458 and fuzzy rule -based modeling proved a reliable and flexible tool to study the performance of multimedia filter. The conclusion showed that there is a relationship between flow rate, effective size and optimum bed depth for all filter media, the increment of effective size generates a higher value of optimum filter bed depth for a lower value of filtration rate. It was concluded that the optimal removal efficiency (95-100) achieved by (0.5-0.7 mm) grain size of sand, (1.5-1.9) mm grain size of granular activated carbon (GAC), with media depths should range from 0.3 to 0.6 m.

Evaluation Performance of Different Types Catalysts of an Industrial Secondary Reformer Reactor in the Ammonia Plants

In this paper, the effect of catalyst shape and characteristics has been investigated where five types of a catalyst were examined under the same operation conditions, where catalysts are similar in the chemical properties (Ni/MgOAl2O3) but it's different in their physical properties in the catalyst section of secondary reformer. The secondary reformer involves continuation of the methane reforming reaction that began in the primary reformer to produce Nitrogen and Hydrogen in the ammonia plant. In order to evaluate performance of various types of catalysts in the secondary reformer reactor, mathematical model have been created. The mathematical model covers all aspects of major chemical kinetics, heat and mass transfer phenomena in the secondary reformer in the ammonia plant at steady state conditions. It aims to optimize the best catalyst from five types of catalyst of the secondary reformer reactor in the State Company of Fertilizers South Region in the Basra/Iraq. The mathematical model allows calculating the axial variations of compositions, temperature and pressure of the gases inside two reactors in series by using the atomic molar balance and adiabatic flame temperature in the combustion section while, in the catalyst section, they are predicted by using a one-dimensional heterogeneous catalytic reaction model. The analysis evaluation performance of the catalyst (RKS-2-7H') have good results than other the catalyst types (RKS - 2, ICI 54 - 2, RKS-2-7H”, RKS-2-7H”’) in catalyst zone of the secondary reformer.

Water Runoff Estimation Using Geographical Information System (GIS) for Alrakhmah Basin Valley Northeast of Iraq

The lack of water resources in many regions is the main challenge for the human being and to extended investigations. Water resources controlling and management is essential in the areas depending on the seasonal rainfall. This research aims to estimate the surface water runoff for Basin of Alrakhmah Valley located in the southwestern part of Kirkuk Province in northeastern of Iraq. Analyzing of Spatial data and Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data has been conducted using Geographic Information System (GIS) to estimate the hydrological properties for the watershed valley with 158.5 km2 surface area. The results showed that watershed valley type is from the fifth rank with a longitudinal shape and topography percentage of 0.568. The watershed textures found to be 3.24 and the drain density 1.5 at 3.49 river branching. Finally, the annual estimated surface water retreat according to the morpho-hydro climatic elements found to be 0.01286233 milliard cubic meter.

Assessment of the Affordability of Out-of-Pocket Payments among Some Selected People Living with HIV in Kano, Nigeria

Introduction: With an estimated 1.8 million People Living with HIV (PLHIV), Nigeria’s HIV response is still heavily donor dependent. However, with anticipated decline in donor funding for HIV/AIDS program as the country takes ownership of the program, understanding financing options for PLHIV is important. One of such financing options is affordability of out-of-pocket payments (OOP) for anti-retroviral drugs (ARV) by PLHIV. We assessed affordability of OOP payments for ARVs in Kano State, North-Western Nigeria. Methods: Four Hundred and sixty-nine PLHIV receiving donor-supported-free ARV in Kano, North Western Nigeria were systematically selected and interviewed during routine clinic visits. Affordability for ARV was assessed by a combination of variables including willingness and financial means to incur extra expense for full dose of ARV based on landing and distribution cost of 8.3 USD (about 3,000 NGN) per month dose. Results: Four hundred and sixty-nine respondents were interviewed. Of those, 72 (15.4%, 95% CI: [13.2 - 19.7]) can afford ARV OOP on monthly base. The proportion of males able to pay 3,000 NGN (8.3 USD) or more OOP for ARVs was not different from that of women (15.5% versus 15.2%). Attending school, education level, employment, monthly income and wealth have all been found to be associated with willingness and ability to pay for monthly dose of ARV OOP (p Conclusion/recommendation: Majority of PLHIV in Kano State may not afford ARV OOP in the event of withdrawal of supports by international donors. Innovative sustainable financing mechanisms from domestic resources are needed for HIV program sustainability.

Effect of the Chemical Mutagens Sodium Azide on Plant Regeneration of Two Tomato Cultivars under Salinity Stress Condition in vitro

The study was carried out to induce variations and stimulate callus induction, plant regeneration from different explants of two tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) cultivars Trescantos and super Regina by using tissue culture technique and Sodium azide as a chemical mutagens at concentrations (0.0, 2.0 and 4.0) mM under salinity stress condition at the levels(3.0, 6.0 and 9.0) dS/m. Different plant growth regulators were tested for their potentials in callus induction. The results revealed that treated seeds with SA (sodium azide) at concentration (2.0) mM increased seed germination percentage, seedling height and root length as compare to control treatment. While (4.0) mM concentration cause a reduction in all parameters mentioned above. Concerning to callus induction both cultivars showed a different response against different tested media with varying concentrations of plant growth regulators and despite their variable response to all tested media a combination of (2.0) mg from Kinetin (KIN) and Indol acetic acid (IAA) was found to be the most effective as compare to other treatments. Moreover, when callus transferred to a stressed media the variation was observed in explants fresh weight, and high reduction with the increment of salt level were recorded. Similarly the regeneration efficiency from stressed callus were observed at the level 3.0 and 6.0 dS/m while 9.0 dS/m the callus failed to regenerate plants for all three explants of both tomato cultivars.
