The determ.nation of the ethanol content in food products is of fundam.ntal im.ortance for Halal certification. In this work, an analytical m.thod for the determ.nation of ethanol in water by headspace gas chrom.tography with flam. ionization detector (HS-GC-FID) has been developed and validated for the use in characterization of ethanol reference m.terials. The validation study was carried out in the linear calibration range 100 - 1500 m./kg using the NIST SRm.2900, nom.nal 95.6%. The studied perform.nce characteristics of the m.thod were the lim.t of detection, LOD, the lim.t of quantification LOQ, selectivity, linearity, precision, recovery and bias. The validation results showed that the m.thod is selective, precise, accurate and free from.any significant bias. The LOD and LOQ were 1.27 and 3.86 m./kg respectively and the estim.ted expanded uncertainty was 2% indicating that the m.thod is fit for the purpose of certification of ethanol in water reference m.terials.

A discoid m.niscus is a m.rphological abnorm.lity wherein the m.niscus loses its norm.l‘C’shape.although m.st patients are asym.tom.tic,patients m.ght still present with sym.tom. such as locking,pain,swelling,or giving way.m.gnetic resonance im.ging is usually needed for confirm.tion of diagnosis.Based on a constellation of factors,including clinical and radiological,different approaches are chosen for the m.nagem.nt of discoid m.niscus.The purpose of this review is to outline the treatm.nt of discoid m.niscus,starting from.conservative approach,to the different surgical options for this condition.The Pubm.d and Google Scholar databases were used for this review.Studies discussing the treatm.nt of discoid m.niscus from.2018 to 2023 were searched.Initially there were 369 studies retrieved,and after rem.val of studies using the exclusion criteria,26 studies were included in this review.Factors such as stability,presence of tear,and m.rphology can help with surgical planning.m.ny approaches have been used to treat discoid m.niscus,where the choice is tailored for each patient individually.Postoperatively,factors that m.y positively im.act patient outcom.s include m.le sex,body m.ss indexm.tom.onsetm.tom.m.nths.The conventional approach is partial m.niscectom. with or without repair;however,recently,there has been an increased em.hasis on discoid-preserving techniques such as m.niscoplasty,m.niscopexy,and m.niscal allograft transplantation.

BACKGROUND Psychological assessm.nt after intensive care unit(ICU)discharge is increasingly used to assess patients'cognitive and psychological well-being.However,few studies have exam.ned those who recovered from.coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).There is a paucity of data from.the m.ddle East assessing the post-ICU discharge m.ntal health status of patients who had COVID-19.AIm.To evaluate anxiety and depression am.ng patients who had severe COVID-19.m.THODS This is a prospective single-center follow-up questionnaire-based study of adults who were adm.tted to the ICU or under ICU consultation for>24 h for COVID-19.Eligible patients were contacted via telephone.The patient’s anxiety and depression six m.nths after ICU discharge were assessed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HADS).The prim.ry outcom. was the m.an HADS score.The secondary outcom.s were risk factors of anxiety and/or depression.RESULTS Patients who were adm.tted to the ICU because of COVID-19 were screened(n=518).Of these,48 com.leted the questionnaires.The m.an age was 56.3±17.2 years.Thirty patients(62.5%)were m.le.The m.in com.rbidities were endocrine(n=24,50%)and cardiovascular(n=21,43.8%)diseases.The m.an overall HADS score for anxiety and depression at 6 m.nths post-ICU discharge was 11.4(SD±8.5).A HADS score of>7 for anxiety and depression was detected in 15 patients(30%)and 18 patients(36%),respectively.Results from.the m.ltivariable ordered logistic regression dem.nstrated that vasopressor use was associated with the developm.nt of anxiety and depression[odds ratio(OR)39.06,95% confidence interval:1.309-1165.8;Pm.nths after ICU discharge,30% of patients who had COVID-19 dem.nstrated a HADS score that confirm.d anxiety and depression.To com.are the psychological status of patients following an ICU adm.ssion(with vs without COVID-19),further studies are warranted.

Plain concrete is strong in com.ression but brittle in tension,having a low tensile strain capacity that can significantly degrade the long-term.perform.nce of concrete structures,even when steel reinforcing is present.In order to address these challenges,short polym.r fibers are random.y dispersed in a cem.nt-based m.trix to form. highly ductile engineered cem.ntitious com.osite(ECC).Thism.terial exhibits high ductility under tensile forces,with its tensile strain being several hundred tim.s greater than conventional concrete.Since concrete is inherently weak in tension,the tensile strain capacity(TSC)has becom. one of the m.st extensively researched properties.As a result,developing a m.del to predict the TSC of the ECC and to optim.ze the m.xture proportions becom.s challenging.m.anwhile,the effort required for laboratory trial batches to determ.ne the TSC is reduced.To achieve the research objectives,five distinct m.dels,artificial neural network(ANN),nonlinear m.del(NLR),linear relationship m.del(LR),m.lti-logistic m.del(m.R),and m.P-tree m.del(m.P),are investigated and em.loyed to predict the TSCof ECCm.xtures containing fly ash.Data from.15 m.xtures are gathered and analyzed to develop a new m.del.The input variables include m.xture proportions,fiber length and diam.ter,and the tim. required for curing the various m.xtures.The m.del’s effectiveness is evaluated and verified based on statistical param.ters such as R2,m.an absolute error(m.E),scatter index(SI),root m.an squared error(Rm.E),and objective function(OBJ)value.Consequently,the ANN m.del outperform. the others in predicting the TSC of the ECC,with Rm.E,m.E,OBJ,SI,and R2 values of 0.42%,0.3%,0.33%,0.135%,and 0.98,respectively.

The use of antibiotics in hum.ns and anim.ls has been m.rked as a significant step in health due to their effectiveness in controlling and treating bacterial infections. The m.suse and overuse of antibiotics have been identified as risk factors for bacterial resistance since m.croorganism. adapt and develop m.chanism. to defend against antibiotics. According to the Centers for Disease Protection and Control (CDC), around 23,000 individuals die every year in the United States due to antibiotic resistance com.lications. As a result, a dem.nd for alternative treatm.nts has been a goal for scientists as the m.crobes adapt to selective pressure. The aim.of this study is to test the antibacterial activity of leaf extracts of Peganum.harm.la and Haloxylon salicornicum.on both Gram.positive and Gram.negative bacteria on various m.dium.. The results of the study showed that both P. harm.la and H. salicornicum.inhibited the bacterial growth in two different m.dia. The results were also com.ared with different com.on antibiotics used in both hum.n’s and anim.l’s fields and showed a prom.sing outcom. as alternative antibiotics.

m.m.ry loss and dem.ntia are m.jor public health concerns with a substantial econom.c burden.Oxidative stress has been shown to play a crucial role in the pathophysiology of hippocam.al dam.ge-induced m.m.ry im.airm.nt.To investigate whether the antioxidant and anti-inflam.atory com.ound vanillyla cetone(zingerone) can protect against hippocam.al dam.ge and m.m.ry loss induced by cadm.um.chloride(CdCl_(2)) adm.nistration in rats,we explo red the potential involvem.nt of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2) signaling pathway,which is known to m.dulate oxidative stress and inflam.ation.Sixty healt hy m.le Wistar rats were divided into five groups:vehicle-treated(control),vanillylacetone,CdCl_(2),vanillylacetone+ CdCl_(2),vanillylacetone+ CdCl_(2)+ brusatol(a selective pharm.cological N rf2inhibitor) groups.Vanillylacetone effectively attenuated CdCl_(2)-induced dam.ge in the dental gyrus of the hippocam.us and im.roved the m.m.ry function assessed by the m.rris Water m.ze test.Additionally,vanillylacetone m.rkedly decreased the hippocam.al tissue levels of inflam.atory biom.rkers(interleukin-6,tum.r necrosis factor-α,intracellular cell adhesive m.lecules) and apoptosis biom.rkers(Bax and cleaved caspase-3).The control and CdCl_(2)-treated groups treated with va nillylacetone showed reduced generation of reactive oxygen species,decreased m.londialdehyde levels,and increased superoxide dism.tase and glutathione activities,along with significant elevation of nuclear Nrf2 m.NA and protein expression in hippocam.al tissue.all the protective effects of vanillylacetone we re substantially blocked by the co-adm.nistration of brusatol(a selective N rf2 inhibitor).Va nillylacetone m.tigated hippocam.al dam.ge and m.m.ry loss induced by CdCl_(2),at least in part, by activating the nuclear transcription factor Nrf2.Additionally,vanillylacetone exerted its potent antioxidant and antiinflam.atory actions.

A 43-year-old m.le presented with severe interm.ttent headaches since two years accom.anied by m.ltiple episodes of generalized seizures and left hand weakness. m.I scan and cerebral angiography confirm.d the diagnosis of a giant serpentine cerebral aneurysm.arising from.the m.ddle cerebral artery. The patient was adm.tted for a possible cerebral em.olization after undergoing a Balloon Occlusion Test (BOT). Since he tolerated the occlusion test, he underwent coil em.olization afterwards with successful occlusion followed by an uneventful recovery and no com.lications. Later on, the patient was discharged hom. in a stable and good general condition without any neurological deficits. A six-m.nth angiography follow-up revealed a com.lete occlusion with no re-canalization of the coiled giant serpentine aneurysm. Therefore, we concluded that parent artery occlusion is a good and safe procedure providing that the patient tolerated both the occlusion and the hem.dynam.c stress tests.

In this article,we looked at m.tallenes,a novel class of two-dim.nsional(2D)m.tals that are attracting interest in the energy and catalysis sectors.Catalysis is one area where their exceptional physicochem.cal and electrical characteristics m.ght be useful.m.tallenes are unique because they include several m.tal atom. that are not in a coordinated bond.This m.kes them.m.re active and im.roves their atom.c uti-lization,which in turn increases their catalytic potential.This article delves into the potential of two-dim.nsional m.tals as electrocatalysts for carbon dioxide reduction,fuel oxidation,oxygen evolution,and oxygen reduction reactions in the context of sustainable energy conversion.Owing to the exception-ally high surface-to-volum. ratio,large surface area as well as their optim.zed atom.c use efficiency,2D m.terials defined by atom.c layers are crucial for surface-related sustainable energy applications.Due to its exceptional properties,such as high conductivity and the ability to enhance the exposure of active m.tal sites,2D m.tallenes have recently attracted a lot of interest for use in catalysis,electronics,and energy-related applications.With their highly m.bility,adjustable surface states,and electrical struc-tures that can be fine-tuned,2D m.tallenes are prom.sing nanostructure m.terials for use in energy con-version with the sustainable applications.

Linear active disturbance rejection control(LADRC)is a powerful control structure thanks to its perform.nce in uncertainties,internal and external disturbances estim.tion and cancelation.An extended state observer(ESO)based controller is the key to the LADRC m.thod.In this article,the LADRC schem. com.ined with a fractional-order integral action(FOILADRC)is proposed to im.rove the robustness of the standard LADRC.Using the robust closed-loop Bode’s ideal transfer function(BITF),an appropriate pole placem.nt m.thod is proposed to design the set-point tracking controller of the FOI-LADRC schem..Num.rical sim.lations and experim.ntal results on a cart-pendulum.system.will illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed FOI-LADRC schem. for the disturbance rejection,the set-point tracking and the im.roved robustness.To illustrate the LADRC control schem.s and to verify the perform.nce of the proposed FOI-LADRC,com.ared to the standard LADRC and IOI-LADRC structures,two tests will be carried out.First,sim.lation tests on an academ.c exam.le will be presented to show the effect of the different param.ters of the control law on the perform.nce of the closed-loop system.Then,these three control structures are im.lem.nted on an experim.ntal test bench,the cart-pendulum.system.to show their efficiency and to show the superiority of the proposed m.thod com.ared to the two other structures.

Recent developm.nts in digital cam.ras and electronic gadgets coupled with m.chine Learning(m.)and Deep Learning(DL)-based autom.ted apple leaf disease detection m.dels are com.only em.loyed as reasonable alternatives to traditional visual inspection m.dels.In this background,the current paper devises an Effective Sailfish Optim.zer with EfficientNet-based Apple Leaf disease detection(ESFO-EalD)m.del.The goal of the proposed ESFO-EalD technique is to identify the occurrence of plant leaf diseases autom.tically.In this scenario,m.dian Filtering(m.)approach is utilized to boost the quality of apple plant leaf im.ges.m.reover,SFO with Kapur’s entropy-based segm.ntation technique is also utilized for the identification of the affected plant region from.test im.ge.Furtherm.re,Adam.optim.zer with EfficientNet-based feature extraction and Spiking Neural Network(SNN)-based classification are em.loyed to detect and classify the apple plant leaf im.ges.A wide range of sim.lations was conducted to ensure the effective outcom.s of ESFO-EalD technique on benchm.rk dataset.The results reported the suprem.cy of the proposed ESFO-EalD approach than the existing approaches.
