Opposite modulatory Effects of Crataegus aronia Aqueous Extract on Platelet Aggregation in Rats

Objectives:To reveal the mechanisms behind the dual effects of Crataegus aronia(***)aqueous extract on platelet aggregation by focusing on function,regulation,expression,and signaling of platelets P_(2)Y_(12)***:Adult male Wistar rats(120±10 g)were classified as control received the vehicle,***(200 mg/kg),and ***(2,000 mg/kg)-treated *** treatments for consecutive 7 days,hematological and molecular experiments were conducted to detect alterations in platelet aggregation,thromboxane B2(THXB2)and intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS)content;protein levels of P_(2)Y_(12),p-Akt,cyclic adenosine monophosphate(c AmP),phosphorylated vasodilator-stimulated-phosphoprotein(p-VASP),nuclear factorκB(nF-κB),P-selectin,*** platelets were determined by Western blot;m RnA expressions of P_(2)Y_(12)and some inflammatory markers were determined by real-time polymerase chain ***:At a concentration of 200 mg/kg,*** inhibited platelet aggregation through multiple interconnected mechanisms including downregulation P_(2)Y_(12)synthesis and expression,stimulating intracellular cAmP levels and protein levels of p-VASP,inhibiting platelets THXB2 release and protein levels of ***,it inhibited platelets level of ROS and of nF-κB,a major signaling pathway that stimulates the expression of P_(2)Y_(12)and THXA2 *** findings were seen in platelets of rats received *** at a concentration of 2,000 mg/***,co-administration of n-acetylcysteine prevented all hematological and molecular alterations exerted by the high dose of the extract and inhibited platelet ***:Oral administration of *** at low dose inhibits platelet aggregation by reducing THXB2 release,expression of P-selectin and activating c AmP and Akt signaling through two major mechanisms including downregulation of P_(2)Y_(12)and inhibition of ROS-induced activation of nF-κB,an effect that is observed to be in the

Background It had been documented in many studies that pediatric coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is characterized by low infectivity rates,low mortalities,and benign disease *** the other hand,influenza type A viruses are recognized to cause severe and fatal infections in children populations *** study is aimed to compare the clinical and laboratory characteristics of COVID-19 and H1n1 influenza *** A retrospective study comprising 107 children hospitalized at Abha maternity and Children Hospital,Southern region of Saudi Arabia,with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 and H1n1 influenza infections was carried out.A complete follow-up for all patients from the hospital admission until discharge or death was *** clinical data and laboratory parameters for these patients were collected from the medical records of the *** Out of the total enrolled patients,73(68.2%)were diagnosed with COVID-19,and 34(31.8%)were diagnosed with H1n1 *** median age is 12 months for COVID-19 patients and 36 months for influenza patients.A relatively higher number of patients with influenza had a fever and respiratory symptoms than COVID-19 *** contrast,gastrointestinal symptoms were observed in a higher number of COVID-19 patients than in influenza patients.A statistically significant increase in white cell counts is noted in COVID-19 but not in influenza patients(Pno obvious variations in the mean period of duration of hospitalization between COVID-19 and influenza ***,the total intensive care unit length of stay was longer for influenza compared to COVID-19 *** A considerable number of children infected with COVID-19 and H1n1 influenza were noted and reported in this *** were no significant variations in the severity of the symptomatology and laboratory findings between the two groups of *** differences between these patients in some hospitalization facto

The Impact of Age and Gender on Severity and Types of Periodontal Diseases among Patients from Two Regions in Saudi Arabia

Background: Periodontitis is the predominant disease in the oral cavity and there are alterations in the periodontal tissues associated with the aging and gender of the patient. Objective: The present study was designed to assess the impact of age and gender of the patient on severity and types of periodontal diseases among patients from two regions in Saudi Arabia. materials and methods: The current study was done on 600 Saudi patients from Aseer and Tabuk regions in Saudi Arabia (50% males and 50% females) and divided into three equal groups (n = 200) according to the patients age: children and young patients (1 - 24 years old), adults patients (25 - 64 years old) and seniors patients (more than 65 years old). Plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI), periodontal pocket depth (PPD) and clinical attachment loss (CAL) were recorded from all participants. The data were collected and analyzed with SPSS to determine the mean and standard deviation (±SD) and the values of significance (P ≤ 0.005). Results: The results of the present study revealed that 340 patients (56.7%) were affected with gingivitis dental biofilm induced and 260 patients were affected by periodontitis. Gingivitis dental biofilm-induced is especially detected in children and young patients (33.3%), adult patients (16.7%) and seniors patients (6.7%) whereas periodontitis cases were seen among the adult and seniors patients (16.7%) and (26.6%) respectively. Furthermore, the present study displayed the higher severity and prevalence of gingivitis dental biofilm-induced and periodontitis among females more than males in group II and group III maybe due to hormonal changes. The present study saw that there are statistically significant differences in clinical findings in the comparison between groups of this study (P ≤ 0.005). Conclusion: We conclude that there is a relation between severity and types of periodontal diseases and the ages and genders of Saudi patients in Aseer and Tabuk regions, Saudi Arabi
