Mosquito-borne diseases,particularly dengue and chikungunya have become global threats,infecting millions of people worldwide,including developing countries of Southeast Asia and Latin America.Bangladesh,like many other developing countries,is experiencing frequent dengue outbreaks.This article,therefore,critically discussed the current status of dengue disease,vector control approaches,and the need for Wolbachia-mediated intervention in Bangladesh and other dengue-endemic developing countries.In this narrative review study,rel-evant literature was searched from major databases and search engines such as PubMed,BanglaJol,World Health Organization(WHO)/European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control(ECDC)and Google Scholar.Considering the selection criteria,our search strategies finally involved 55 related literature for further investigation.Findings showed that current vector control strategies could not render protection for an extended period,and the disease burden of arboviruses is increasing.The impoverished outbreak preparedness,urbanization,climate change,and less efficacy of existing control methods have made people susceptible to vector-borne diseases.Hence,Wolbachia,a naturally occurring endosymbiont of many mosquito species that can potentially limit virus transmission through several host genetic alterations,would be a potential alterna-tive for dengue prevention.We also critically discussed the challenges and prospects of Wolbachia-based den-gue control in developing countries.The evidence supporting the efficacy and safety of this intervention and its mechanism have also been elucidated.Empirical evidence suggests that this introgression method could be an eco-friendly and long-lasting dengue control method.This review would help the policymakers and health experts devise a scheme of Wolbachia-based dengue control that can control mosquito-borne diseases,partic-ularly dengue in Bangladesh and other developing countries.

Rumors regarding epidemic diseases such as COVID 19,medicines and treatments,diagnostic methods and public emergencies can have harmful impacts on health and political,social and other aspects of people’s lives,especially during emergency situations and health crises.With huge amounts of content being posted to social media every second during these situations,it becomes very difficult to detect fake news(rumors)that poses threats to the stability and sustainability of the healthcare sector.A rumor is defined as a statement for which truthfulness has not been verified.During COVID 19,people found difficulty in obtaining the most truthful news easily because of the huge amount of unverified information on social media.Several methods have been applied for detecting rumors and tracking their sources for COVID 19-related information.However,very few studies have been conducted for this purpose for the Arabic language,which has unique characteristics.Therefore,this paper proposes a comprehensive approach which includes two phases:detection and tracking.In the detection phase of the study carried out,several standalone and ensemble machine learning methods were applied on the Arcov-19 dataset.A new detection model was used which combined two models:The Genetic algorithm Based Support Vector Machine(that works on users’and tweets’features)and the stacking ensemble method(that works on tweets’texts).In the tracking phase,several similarity-based techniques were used to obtain the top 1%of similar tweets to a target tweet/post,which helped to find the source of the rumors.The experiments showed interesting results in terms of accuracy,precision,recall and F1-Score for rumor detection(the accuracy reached 92.63%),and showed interesting findings in the tracking phase,in terms of ROUGE L precision,recall and F1-Score for similarity techniques.

The cisternostomy is a novel technique for the management of intracranial hypertension. Intracranial hypertension is the most frequent cause of mortality in patients with acute brain injury. The availability of a less aggressive technique compared to decompressive craniectomy is an advantage for neurosurgeons. We presented a case that demonstrates the successful use of this technique.

The Message Passing Interface (MPI) is a widely accepted standard for parallel computing on distributed memorysystems.However, MPI implementations can contain defects that impact the reliability and performance of parallelapplications. Detecting and correcting these defects is crucial, yet there is a lack of published models specificallydesigned for correctingMPI defects. To address this, we propose a model for detecting and correcting MPI defects(DC_MPI), which aims to detect and correct defects in various types of MPI communication, including blockingpoint-to-point (BPTP), nonblocking point-to-point (NBPTP), and collective communication (CC). The defectsaddressed by the DC_MPI model include illegal MPI calls, deadlocks (DL), race conditions (RC), and messagemismatches (MM). To assess the effectiveness of the DC_MPI model, we performed experiments on a datasetconsisting of 40 MPI codes. The results indicate that the model achieved a detection rate of 37 out of 40 codes,resulting in an overall detection accuracy of 92.5%. Additionally, the execution duration of the DC_MPI modelranged from 0.81 to 1.36 s. These findings show that the DC_MPI model is useful in detecting and correctingdefects in MPI implementations, thereby enhancing the reliability and performance of parallel applications. TheDC_MPImodel fills an important research gap and provides a valuable tool for improving the quality ofMPI-basedparallel computing systems.

Knowing Moho discontinuity undulation is fundamental to understanding mechanisms of lithosphereasthenosphere interaction, extensional tectonism and crustal deformation in volcanic passive margins such as the study area, which is located in the southwestern corner of the Arabian Peninsula bounded by the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. In this work, a 3D Moho depth model of the study area is constructed for the first time by inverting gravity data from the Earth Gravitational Model(EGM2008) using the ParkerOldenburg algorithm. This model indicates the shallow zone is situated at depths of 20 km to 24 km beneath coastal plains, whereas the deep zone is located below the plateau at depths of 30 km to 35 km and its deepest part coincides mainly with the Dhamar-Rada ’a Quaternary volcanic field. The results also indicate two channels of hot magmatic materials joining both the Sana’a-Amran Quaternary volcanic field and the Late Miocene Jabal An Nar volcanic area with the Dhamar-Rada’a volcanic field. This conclusion is supported by the widespread geothermal activity(of mantle origin) distributed along these channels,isotopic data, and the upper mantle low velocity zones indicated by earlier studies.

Genetic algorithms(GAs)are very good metaheuristic algorithms that are suitable for solving NP-hard combinatorial optimization problems.AsimpleGAbeginswith a set of solutions represented by a population of chromosomes and then uses the idea of survival of the fittest in the selection process to select some fitter chromosomes.It uses a crossover operator to create better offspring chromosomes and thus,converges the population.also,it uses a mutation operator to explore the unexplored areas by the crossover operator,and thus,diversifies the GA search space.A combination of crossover and mutation operators makes the GA search strong enough to reach the optimal solution.However,appropriate selection and combination of crossover operator and mutation operator can lead to a very good GA for solving an optimization problem.In this present paper,we aim to study the benchmark traveling salesman problem(TSP).We developed several genetic algorithms using seven crossover operators and six mutation operators for the TSP and then compared them to some benchmark TSPLIB instances.The experimental studies show the effectiveness of the combination of a comprehensive sequential constructive crossover operator and insertion mutation operator for the problem.The GA using the comprehensive sequential constructive crossover with insertion mutation could find average solutions whose average percentage of excesses from the best-known solutions are between 0.22 and 14.94 for our experimented problem instances.

The indispensability of information in agricultural development led to the setting up of Farmers’Information and Advice Centres(FIACs)by the government of Bangladesh all over the country.The FIACs mainly provide information related to different agriculture subsectors like crop,fisheries and livestock with the overall aim of improving farmers’livelihood.Hence,the effectiveness along with problems and suggestions for improvement of the FIACs’services were examined in this study by surveying two FIACs of Dinajpur sadar upazila.The effectiveness of FIAC was determined on some selected farm(crop,fisheries and livestock)information based on three dimensions viz.information received,its understanding and application.Data were collected using interview schedule from a sample of 96 farmers selected by proportionate random sampling method.Descriptive statistics and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient(r)were used in the analysis.In terms of crop production sub-sector,all the respondents(100%)received,understood and applied‘tomato seed production technology’information,followed by‘rice seed production and preservation technology’(96.9%).also,as for the livestock sub-sector,all the respondents(100%)received,understood and applied‘beef fattening through UMS method’information,followed by‘livestock rearing’(89.5%).Similarly,in case of fisheries sub-sector,all the respondents(100%)receive,understand and apply‘Pangas(Pangasius pangasius)culture method’information,followed by‘preparation of an ideal pond’(92.3%).In essence,the FIACs are quiet effective in their service delivery.Among the seven selected characteristics of the respondents,educational qualification,family income and perception on the service delivery efficiency of FIACs showed positive significant association with the effectiveness of the FIAC.However,the foremost problems mentioned by the respondents were FIACs staff inefficiency(83.33%)and lack of effective long term training program for both farmers and staff(73.84%).To address the identified problems

The wide engineered application of compacted expansive soils necessitates understanding their behavior under field conditions.The results of this study demonstrate how seasonal climatic variation and stress and boundary conditions individually or collectively influence the hydraulic and volume change behavior of compacted highly expansive soils.The cyclic wetting and drying(CWD)process was applied for two boundary conditions,i.***.constant stress(CS)and constant volume(CV),and for a wide range of axial stress states.The adopted CWD process affected the hydraulic and volume change behaviors of expansive soils,with the first cycle of wetting and drying being the most effective.The CWD process under CS conditions resulted in shrinkage accumulation and reduction in saturated hydraulic conductivity(k sat).On the other hand,CWD under CV conditions caused a reduction of swell pressure while has almost no impact on k sat.An elastic response to CWD was achieved after the third cycle for saturated hydraulic conductivity(k sat),the third to fourth cycle for the volume change potential under the CV conditions,and the fourth to fifth cycle for the volume change potential under the CS conditions.Finally,both swell pressure(s s)and saturated hydraulic conductivity(k sat)are not fundamental parameters of the expansive soil but rather depend on stress,boundary and wetting conditions.

Objective:This study is designed to evaluate the microbiological safety concern of drinking water of the 50 schools of Chattogram city,Bangladesh,and to investigate the sanitation and hygiene conditions of the schools,which are directly related to the health of thousands of students.Methods:In this study,pour plate method used for total viable count(TVC),most probable number(MPN)method used for the total coliform count(TCC)and fecal coliform count(FCC),and four selective media used to isolate pathogenic bacteria from drinking water samples,and then identified by using morphological,cultural,and biochemical tests.To investigate the water,sanitation,and hygiene conditions a structured questionnaire was used.Results:A total of 46% samples were found above the acceptable limit(>500 CFU/ml)for TVC count,52%sam-ples had coliform,and 28% samples had fecal coliform,which exceeded the WHO guideline value.We categorized 50 studied schools into five groups and found the highest TVC(67%)and TCC(83%)in the water samples of city corporation schools.E.coli,Salmonella,Shigella,Enterobacter,Citrobacter,Klebsiella,and Yersinia were isolated and identified from drinking water samples.In most schools,drinking water reservoirs were found impure and contaminated by various bacteria.In government primary schools,a toilet is used by 143 students,whereas in pri-vate English medium schools,a toilet is used by 30 students and found clean.Hand-washing soap was supplied in only 14% of government primary schools,but 100% in private English medium schools.Conclusion:Our findings suggest that drinking water in most of the schools was found contaminated by pathogens.Poor hygiene,sanitation,and contaminated drinking water seem responsible for different kinds of diseases.More-over,this study indicates the necessity for raising awareness about drinking water,hygiene,and sanitation facil-ities of schools,which should monitor at regular intervals.
