pH-indicative Films Based on Chitosan–PVA/sepiolite and Anthocyanin from Red Cabbage: Application in Milk Packaging

Biobased smart packaging is been the most interesting research *** this study,pH-sensitive films based on anthocyanin molecules from red cabbage and sepiolite mineral nano-clay as functional additives were *** films were fabricated by casting method of blend polymer Chitosan/Poly(Vinyl Alcohol)at two fillers loading(5wt.%and 10wt.%).The structural,morphological,thermal,optical,hygroscopic,and mechanical properties as well as the pH sensitivity of films were *** thermal properties confirm that the amount of the anthocyanin in sepiolite was around 6.4%.The tensile strength and the young’s modulus of produced composites at 10wt.%sepiolite–anthocyanin content was increased to 8.90 MPa and 163 MPa,*** maximum water absorption that the films may absorb was 12.3%.pH sensitivity analysis showed that the smart films change the color by changing the pH level,from pink at pH lower than 6 to yellow at pH higher than ***,the developed pH-sensitive films show band gaps in visible light that make them useful for monitoring milk spoilage.

Ranking of Web Pages in a Personalized search

The basic idea behind a personalized web search is to deliver search results that are tailored to meet user needs, which is one of the growing concepts in web technologies. The personalized web search presented in this paper is based on exploiting the implicit feedbacks of user satisfaction during her web browsing history to construct a user profile storing the web pages the user is highly interested in. A weight is assigned to each page stored in the user’s profile;this weight reflects the user’s interest in this page. We name this weight the relative rank of the page, since it depends on the user issuing the query. Therefore, the ranking algorithm provided in this paper is based on the principle that;the rank assigned to a page is the addition of two rank values R_rank and A_rank. A_rank is an absolute rank, since it is fixed for all users issuing the same query, it only depends on the link structures of the web and on the keywords of the query. Thus, it could be calculated by the PageRank algorithm suggested by Brin and Page in 1998 and used by the google search engine. While, R_rank is the relative rank, it is calculated by the methods given in this paper which depends mainly on recording implicit measures of user satisfaction during her previous browsing history.

Organophosphate esters in indoor and outdoor dust from Iraq:Implications for human exposure

Concentrations of 6 organophosphate esters(OPEs)were determined in 60 indoor(ID)and outdoor(OD)dust samples collected from 20 homes from Basrah,*** each home,two ID samples were collected,one from elevated surfaces(EsD)and one from the floor(FD)of the living room;while the OD samples were collected from the front yard of the same *** s6OPEs concentrations in dust samples ranged between 681 and 17900 ng/g with median concentrations of 5950,3590 and 1550 ng/g in EsD,FD and OD samples,*** OPEs were the most abundant compounds,contributing mean percentages of 88%,85%and 78%toΣ_(6)OPEs in EsD,FD and OD,respectively,with tris(1-chloro-2-propyl)phosphate(TCIPP)*** of our target OPEs in EsD significantly exceeded those in FD(ps(2-chloroethyl)phosphate(TCEP)and tris(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl)phosphate(TDCIPP).Ratios of median concentrations of OPEs in ID:OD ranged from 1.5 for tri-n-butyl phosphate(TNBP)to 8.0 for TCEP,indicating the significance of indoor *** of chlorinated OPEs in ID were moderately correlated(R=0.522-0.591,Pse in OD samples,suggesting interchange of OPEs between the two *** of OPEs in OD from houses with a contiguous front yard car porch exceeded those in OD from houses without a car porch and were significantly higher(Psphate(EHDPP).Emissions from parked cars and the associated home are likely sources of OPEs in the OD *** on the concentrations reported here,the estimated daily intake(EDI)for the Iraqi population through house dust ingestion are all well below the relevant reference dose(RfD)values.

Automated diagnosis and staging of Fuchs' endothelial corneal dystrophy using deep learning

Background:To describe the diagnostic performance of a deep learning algorithm in discriminating early-stage Fuchs'endothelial corneal dystrophy(FECD)without clinically evident corneal edema from healthy and late-stage FECD eyes using high-definition optical coherence tomography(HD-OCT).Methods:In this observational case-control study,104 eyes(53 FECD eyes and 51 healthy controls)received HDOCT imaging(Envisu R2210,Bioptigen,Buffalo Grove,IL,UsA)using a 6 mm radial scan pattern centered on the corneal *** was clinically categorized into early(without corneal edema)and late stage(with corneal edema).A total of 18,720 anterior segment optical coherence tomography(As-OCT)images(9180 healthy;5400 early-stage FECD;4140 late-stage FECD)of 104 eyes(81 patients)were used to develop and validate a deep learning classification network to differentiate early-stage FECD eyes from healthy eyes and those with clinical *** 5-fold cross-validation on the dataset containing 11,340 OCT images(63 eyes),the network was trained with 80%of these images(3420 healthy;3060 early-stage FECD;2700 late-stage FECD),then tested with 20%(720 healthy;720 early-stage FECD;720 late-stage FECD).Thereafter,a final model was trained with the entire dataset consisting the 11,340 images and validated with a remaining 7380 images of unseen As-0CT scans of 41 eyes(5040 healthy;1620 early-stage FECD 720 late-stage FECD).Visualization of learned features was done,and area under curve(AUC),specificity,and sensitivity of the prediction outputs for healthy,early and late-stage FECD were ***:The final model achieved an AUC of 0.997±0.005 with 91%sensitivity and 97%specificity in detecting early-stage FECD;an AUC of 0.974±0.005 with a specificity of 92%and a sensitivity up to 100%in detecting late-stage FECD;and an AUC of 0.998±0.001 with a specificity 98%and a sensitivity of 99%in discriminating healthycorneas fromall ***:Deep learning algorithm is an accurate autonomous

New scope on the relationship between rotifers and Biom phalaria alexandrina snails

Objective:To investigate the effect of rotifer internalization into snail tissue on the development of ***:susceptible laboratory-bred Biomphalaria alexandrina(***)snails were exposed to lab-maintained rotifers;Philodinaspp.,two weeks before and after being infected with schistosoma mansoni(***)*** consequent histopathological impact on snail tissues and cercarial biology were investigated before and after emergence from ***:Contamination of *** with philodina,two weeks before miracidial exposure,was found to hinder the preliminary development of *** inside the snail ***,when snails were contaminated with rotifers two weeks post miracidial exposure;growth of already established cercariae was found to be *** consequent influence of internalized rotifers within the snail tissue was clearly reflected on cercarial em ergence,activity and infectivity along the four weeks duration of *** the present study,comparison of snail histopathological findings and altered cercarial biology observed between the experimental and control groups indicated that the rotifers may have affected the levels of snail's energy reservoirs,which eventually was found to have had an adverse impacton reproduction,growth and survival of the parasite within the snail host,coupled with its performance outside the ***:In future biological control strategies of schistosomiasis,ritifers should be considered as a parasitic scourge of humanity.

Effect of Heavy Metals Pollution on Protein Biosynthesis in Catfish

The present study was carried out to evaluate the pollution and its effect on the quality of catfish. Four sites in Eygpt were chosen for the research, Ras El-Bar (site 1) as control, shatta (site 2), Kafr El-Bateekh (site 3), and Talkha (site 4). The research was carried out on water, sediments and catfish (serum and muscles). Nitrite, nitrate and ammonia were determined in water and sediment. Also, RNA and DNA were determined in serum samples and the muscles of the catfish. In addition, the concentrations of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Fe, Zn and Cu) were estimated in water, sediments and the muscles of catfish. Also, hepatosomatic index, liver water content, condition factor, lipid and protein contents were determined in the fish. The concentrations of nitrite, nitrate and ammonia in water and sediment of site 4 and the levels of heavy metals especially Pb and Cd in water, sediment and muscle of catfish from sites 3 and 4 were highly elevated compared to those of the control. On the other hand, DNA, RNA and protein contents in the catfish of sites 3 and 4 decreased. The results illustrated that, Cd and Pb levels in the muscle of catfish were negatively correlated with DNA, RNA and with the protein contents. In conclusion, the accumulation of heavy metals in catfish tissues therefore, can cause health problems in human after catfish intake.

AIM： To evaluate the feasibility and utility of confocal laser endomicroscopy （CLE） in the description of normal gastrointestinal （GI） mucosa and in the diagnosis of GI disorders in children, in comparison to ***： Forty-four patients （19 female） median age 10.9 years （range 0.7-16.6 years） with suspected or known GI pathology underwent esophago-gastro- duodenoscopy （OGD）（n = 36） and/or ileocolonoscopy （IC）（n = 31） with CLE using sodium fluorescein and acriflavine as contrast agents. Histological sections were compared with same site confocal images by two experienced pediatric and GI histopathologists and endoscopists, ***： Duodenum and ileum were intubated in all but one patient undergoing OGD and IC. The median procedure time was 16.4 min （range 7-25 rain） for OGD and 27.9 min （range 15-45 min） for IC. A total of 4798 confocal images were compared with 153 biopsies from the upper GI tract from 36 procedures, and 4661 confocal images were compared with 188 biopsies from the ileocolon from 31 *** images were comparable to conventional histology both in normal and in pathological conditions such as esophagitis, Helicobacter pylori gastritis, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, colonic heterotopia, and graft versus host ***： CLE offers the prospect of targeting biopsies to abnormal mucosa, thereby increasing diagnostic yield, reducing the number of biopsies, decreasing the burden on the histopathological services, and reducing costs.

The current article addresses a new strategy for the preparation of polylactic acid/cellulose nanocrystal(PLA/CNCs)nanobiocomposite films with improved structural morphology,mechanical and barrier properties for food packaging *** addition of hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB)and sodium lauryl sulfate(sLs)as cationic and anionic surfactants respectively,was found to play a crucial role in preventing re-aggregation of the CNCs during drying and improving the dispersion of CNCs in the *** coated paper was characterized using mechanical tests,water vapor permeability(WVP),X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(sEM)and air *** results showed that the paper coated with PLA containing 7.5%CNCs and 0.15%CTAB based on weight of PLA,gives the highest measured paper properties,where an increase in tensile strength(+133%),Young’s modulus(+309%),tear index(+183%),burst(+60.8)and a decrease in air permeability(−92%)was obtained.
