Evaluation of Plasma Urokinase-Type Plasminogen Activator Receptor and Interleukin 34 in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C as Serological Fibrosis Markers

Background: Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection is a progressive disease that may result in chronic hepatitis, fibrosis and cirrhosis. Assessment of liver fibrosis is an essential factor in the management of chronic HCV. Objective: To evaluate plasma soluble Urokinase Plasminogen Activator Receptor (sUPAR) and interleukin-34 (IL-34) as serological markers of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic HCV. Methods: This case-control study enrolled 60 chronic HCV patients who were subdivided into three groups of mild, moderate and severe hepatic fibrosis depending on Fibrosis-4 score (FIB-4). Patients were compared with 20 age and sex-matched controls. Plasma sUPAR and IL-34 levels were measured by Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). Results: Plasma sUPAR and IL-34 were significantly increased in HCV patients when compared with controls, and their increase was positively correlated with the progression of hepatic fibrosis. Plasma sUPAR and IL-34 positively correlated with Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) and Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT), and negatively correlated with hemoglobin concentration and platelet count. The output data of Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve to differentiate patients from controls revealed that sUPAR at cut-off > 186.2 ng/L and Area Under Curve (AUC) of 0.944 had (85%) sensitivity and (100%) specificity, and IL-34 at cut off > 16.4 ng/L and AUC of 0.942 had (75%) sensitivity and (100%) specificity. The output data of ROC curve to differentiate severe from mild to moderate hepatic fibrosis patients revealed that sUPAR at cut-off > 510 ng/L and AUC of 0.837 had (80%) sensitivity and (90%) specificity. While IL-34 at cut off > 55.3 ng/L and AUC of 0.844 had (85%) sensitivity and (80%) specificity. Network Structure-Based Critical Bus Identification for Power System Considering Line Voltage Stability Margin

Voltage security assessment of power system is an important and all-inclusive aspect of power system operation and preventive control actions. Fast and accurate detection of critical components of the power system is one essential approach for preventing the occurrence of voltage collapse phenomenon. Over the years, several approaches for voltage collapse point identification and prevention have been widely studied using the continuous power flow approach, minimum singular value of eigenvalues, Jacobian matrices, and power transfer concept. In this work, critical node (bus) identification based on power system network structure is proposed. In this approach, the power system is treated as a multidimensional graph with several nodes (buses) linked together by the transmission lines. An improved line voltage stability margin estimator which is based on active and reactive power changes in a power system is used as the weight of each transmission line and an adaptation of the degree of centrality approach is used to determine the criticality of the system buses. A comparative analysis with other bus voltage stability indices is presented to test the suitability of the proposed approach using the IEEE 14, 30, 57 and 118 bus test systems.

This work is focused on developing zinc-doped hydroxyapatite-zeolite(Zn HA-Zeo)and polycaprolactone(PCL)composite coatings on magnesium(Mg)substrate to improve the corrosion resistance and antimicrobial ***-coating technique was used to coat Zn HA-Zeo/PCL on the Mg substrate at room *** samples were subjected to field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX)and antimicrobial *** demonstrated that composite coatings consist of HA,scholzite,zeolite,and PCL *** spectra indicated the presence of calcium(Ca),silicon(Si),aluminum(Al),zinc(Zn),phosphorus(P)and oxygen(O).The composite surface appeared in spherical-like microstructure on coating with thickness ranging 226-260μ***-doped HA-Zeo composite coating had a high corrosion resistance and provided sufficient protection to the Mg surface against galvanic *** Zn HA-Zeo coating samples exhibited superior disc inhibition by confirming antimicrobial activity against the *** as compared to HA-Zeo *** these results showed that the Zn HA-Zeo coatings not only improved the corrosion resistance,but also enhanced the antimicrobial property and hence they can be used as suitable candidates for implant applications.

Impulse based Ultra wideband technology has been the motivation of many recent researches with the potential of many applications to be researched. The uniqueness of the physical characteristics of the generated signal combined with the high flexibility of for different data rates at the physical layer design level have been addressed in considerable number of researches recently. This paper presents in depth reviews of the different concepts of tunable impulse based ultra wideband from the different researchers views. Research proposals of Cross layer architectures as PHY-MAC aware Impulse based ultra wideband solutions, link-budget communication design with performance evaluations in different test beds implementations are investigated in this paper. Such in-depth review can help researchers in this field to have better understanding of the different possibilities of designing new impulse-based ultra wideband solutions for future potential communication scenarios. Special focus on utilizing the advantage of impulse-based ultra wideband signal design flexibility as integrator for different short to medium wireless infrastructures mainly sharing common design constraints and requirements. Finding remarks from reviewing nearest-field literature combined with researches benchmarking to inspire researches proposal for this topic.

Chemical composition, antibacterial and antifungal activities of Saudi Arabian Mentha longifolia L. essential oil

Objective: To investigate the chemical composition, in vitro antibacterial and antifungal activity of Mentha longifolia L. essential oils using aqueous extract. Methods: Mentha longifolia L. essential oils were extracted using hydrodistillation with Clevenger apparatus for 3 h and the yield of the essential oil was calculated. Essential oils were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed with gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometer. For these essential oils, antibacterial and antifungal activity against human pathogens were evaluated. Results: Nineteen chemical constituents representing 99.72% of the essential oil were found, comprising menthone (39.55%), isopulegone (30.49%), eucalyptol (10.38%), and α-terpineol (3.15%);these were major components, and others were minor components. The essential oil showed strong antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus [(35.24 ± 0.13) mm], Enterococcus faecalis [(32.12 ± 0.12) mm] and Bacillus cereus [(30.06 ± 0.04) mm], as well as antifungal activity against Aspergillus flavus [(38.02 ± 0.06) mm], Alternaria alternaria [(35.26 ± 0.12) mm], and Penicillum spp ((34.14 ± 0.02) mm)Conclusions: It seems that the essential oils derived from the Mentha longifolia L. species could be used as a natural source of antimicrobial agents.

Seismicity and Seismotectonics of Jeddah-Makkah Region, West-Central Saudi Arabia

Jeddah-Makkah regionis have been suffering from earthquake crisis where some moderate to destructive earthquakes have been recorded. These earthquake activities are oriented along major faults or clustered in certain spots. Moreover, these earthquake events have annual recurrence periods, so the identification of these seismogenic source zones is of utmost importance for mapping the most hazardous localities which should be avoided in the future urban planning. Historical and instrumental earthquakes have been collected from national and international data centers and unified in catalogue. The existence of microearthquakes inland suggests that there is a significant level of tectonic activity at away from the axial trough of the Red Sea. Then, seismogenic source zones have been defined depending on the major tectonic trends; distribution of earthquake epicenters, seismicity rate（a ＆ b- values） and fault plane solution of major earthquakes. It is concluded that Jeddah-Makkah region is affected by the outlined five seismogenic source zones; three of these zones aligned of the main Red Sea axial trough（southwestern Jeddah, western Jeddah, and northwestern Jeddah zones）, while the other two zones are located in the land area of the region（Thewal-Rabegh and Jeddah-Makkah zones）. These inland zones correlated well with the main trends of major tectonics which refleet the reactivation of tectonic movements along these fault trends. The Red Sea zones are in agreement with the main path of the axial trough. The range of b-value in these identified zones is 0.65 to 1.03 through these identified zones. The area characterized by higher b-values could be indicative of a relative low stress regime which was a result of resulting from the stress release by the earthquakes. Whereas, the areas of lower b-values can be considered as an evidence of a relatively higher stress regime associated with a dominantly extensional stresses. A novel method for the cation analysis was investigated. The analysis is based on the sparking of the salts of metals in a microwave oven after placing in a graphite cell. The graphite cell absorbs microwaves and produces high temperature which converts the salt into light emitting species. The colour of light was found to dependent on the nature of cation, however, the intensity of the emitted light was found to be depending upon the form and shape of the graphite assembly in addition to the concentration of the salt. This communication presents explanation for all these observations and for the systematic and quantitative analysis using microwave spark emission technique.

Development of Health Literacy for Regular Hemodialysis Patients in Menoufia Governorate: A Cross-Sectional Study

Health literacy (HL) is essential to access, comprehend, assess and use health data allowing patients to make better health and quality of life decisions. To assess the health literacy level of hemodialysis Egyptian patients, a cross-sectional study from March to September 2020 was conducted at 4 hemodialysis (HD) units on 439 patients. A translated questionnaire including demographic characteristics and health literacy components was conducted. This study adapted Nutbeam’s model incorporating critical health literacy, interactive health literacy, and functional health literacy. Health literacy of hemodialysis patients was satisfactory among 35.5% of the studied patients. The average total score of health literacy questionnaire was (15.53 ± 4.32) distributed as (2.90 ± 1.26) for functional literacy, (3.10 ± 1.26) for basic health knowledge, (1.65 ± 1.21) for communicative literacy, (2.53 ± 0.70) for interactive literacy, (1.75 ± 1.30) for advanced health knowledge, (1.74 ± 0.48) for critical literacy, and (1.83 ± 0.93) for patient safety. It was found that poor health literacy was associated with low income (OR = 2.54, CI 95%: 1.66_3.89, p p p p = 0.033). There was a prevalent low health literacy among the studied regular hemodialysis patients which was affected by education, age and income and in turn it affected the adherence to treatment. Understanding the linkage between HL and self-care attitudes should enhance efforts to improve hemodialysis outcomes.

Obese Nulliparous Women and the Risk for Maternal and Fetal Complications

Obesity is becoming a global health care problem and an increasing number of obese female patients are getting pregnant. Aim of our study was to know the prevalence of obesity in nulliparous women and its impact on pregnancy as well as fetus. Patients and Methods: All nulliparous women with single pregnancy and gestational age of 37 weeks and above were included in the study. Primigradvida with multiple pregnancies, fetal abnormalities, and gestational age less than 37 weeks were excluded. Patients were divided into normal, overweight and obese group according to their prepragnancy body mass index (BMI). Results: Total 2243 nulliparous women were included in the study, majority (56.8%) of patients were in the normal BMI group and only 24.8% were obese. But a significantly higher number of obese nulliparous women were in the age group of 18 to 29 years (P < 0.05). Comorbidities were significantly higher in obese primigravida. The incidence of gestational diabetes and pregnancy induced hypertension was significantly higher (P 0.05) in obese nulliparous women. Overweight and obese nulliparous patients required significantly higher emergency caesarean section and assisted vaginal deliveries compared to the normal BMI nulliparous women (P < 0.03). Conclusion: Maternal obesity leads to prepartum, peripartum as well as fetal complication. Obese pregnant patients had a significant risk of developing gestational diabetes and pregnancy induced hypertension. In these patients the prevalence of assisted vaginal and cesarean deliveries is significantly high.
