Microwave-assisted synthesis of L-cysteine-capped nickel nanoparticles for catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol

A simple and efficient microwave-assisted procedure for synthesis of L-cysteine-capped nickel nanoparticles(cyst-Ni NPs) in ethylene glycol solvent was demonstrated. The as-synthesised NPs were characterised by ultraviolet–visible(UV–Vis) spectrophotometer, Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and X-ray diffractometry(XRD). The cyst-Ni NPs are proved to be excellent heterogeneous catalysts for the 100% reduction of 4-nitrophenol(4-NPh) in the presence of reductant(Na BH4)within reaction time of 40 s. In contrast, Raney nickel in similar sample environments shows only 25.5% *** kinetic and energetic behaviours of cyst-Ni NPs were also studied, and the reduction reaction is determined to follow pseudo-first-order kinetics with a rate constant value of 0.115 s-1 and activation energy of 36.1 kJ·mol-1. In addition to its high catalytic competence, cyst-Ni NPs catalyst exhibits excellent recyclability with negligible catalytic poisoning.

Targeted Therapy in the Management of Elderly Patients with Pancreatic Metastases from Renal Cell Carcinoma

Background: The pancreas is an uncommon but recognizable site for metastases from renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Isolated pancreatic RCC metastases are still rarer and often present years after initial nephrectomy. Surgical resection has been the treatment of choice because of superior patient survival compared with traditional immunotherapy. In recent years, the advent of targeted therapy has transformed the outcomes of patients with metastatic RCC although little evidence is available on its effectiveness on this subset of patients. We report our experience of 6 patients with pancreatic RCC metastases. Patients and Methods: Between 2007 and 2012, 6 patients (2 men, 4 women;median age 78 years) were diagnosed to have pancreatic RCC metastases at our institute. The clinical features, treatment and outcomes were examined. Results: All 6 patients had a primary RCC of clear cell type. The median interval between initial curative nephrectomy and re-presentation with pancreatic metastases was 12.5 years. Four patients were asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis, one presented with obstructive jaundice and another with acute gastrointestinal bleed. Four patients had extra-pancreatic disease. All were deemed unsuitable or unfit for surgical metastasectomy. Five patients had a Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) score of 1 (moderate risk) and the other patient had a score of 0 (good risk). Two patients were commenced on Sunitinib, one received Pazopanib and one received Temsirolimus. Two patients did not undergo further treatment. Of the 4 patients who underwent targeted therapy, the median follow up was 33 months with a median progression free survival of 16 months. One achieved complete response but recurred soon after treatment was stopped. Targetted therapy was recommenced and the disease remained stable. Objective:To determine the antibacterial and anti-candidal activities of fatty acid methyl esters(FAME)extracted from marine microalga Nannochloropsis oculata and evaluate the inhibition activity of DNA isolated from test pathogenic ***:FAME was synthesized by transesterification of oil using immobilized lipase and characterized using gas chromatography-mass *** FAME profile was determined using gas *** antimicrobial effect was tested by disc diffusion method against Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus,Bacillus subtilis,Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli,Pseudomonas aeruginosa and yeast Candida albicans,at varying concentrations of 10,20 and 30μL/***:The results shown that palmitic acid(C16:0),oleic acid(C18:1)and arachidic acid(C20:0)were dominant in Nannochloropsis oculata *** study revealed that FAME was more active against Gram-negative than against Gram-positive and *** inhibition activity results also confirmed that FAME had the bactericidal effect that was revealed by sheared fragments of ***:The results indicated that microalgal FAME could be potentially utilized as a newer and good source of therapeutic agent in pharmaceutical industry.

In the area of medical image processing,stomach cancer is one of the most important cancers which need to be diagnose at the early *** this paper,an optimized deep learning method is presented for multiple stomach disease *** proposed method work in few important steps—preprocessing using the fusion of ltering images along with Ant Colony Optimization(ACO),deep transfer learning-based features extraction,optimization of deep extracted features using nature-inspired algorithms,and nally fusion of optimal vectors and classication using Multi-Layered Perceptron Neural Network(MLNN).In the feature extraction step,pretrained Inception V3 is utilized and retrained on selected stomach infection classes using the deep transfer learning *** on,the activation function is applied to Global Average Pool(GAP)for feature ***,the extracted features are optimized through two different nature-inspired algorithms—Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO)with dynamic tness function and Crow Search Algorithm(CSA).Hence,both methods’output is fused by a maximal value approach and classied the fused feature vector by *** datasets are used to evaluate the proposed method—CUI WahStomach Diseases and Combined dataset and achieved an average accuracy of 99.5%.The comparison with existing techniques,it is shown that the proposed method shows signicant performance.
