The electrical energy produced must be consumed at the same time, hence the need to achieve a balance between supply and demand. Therefore, the production, transport, and distribution systems together constitute an electricity network. The distribution networks are designed to deliver energy to consumers. Unacceptable voltage drops are observed in the distribution networks of developing countries such as Burkina Faso. A study was carried out on the distribution network of the city of Bobo-Dioulasso in Burkina Faso. It allowed for experimentation with the “Megger MPQ1000” network analyzer to evaluate the quality of the voltage supplied to households. To this end, tests were carried out in a public distribution station and at a few subscribers in the Sarfalao district of the city of Bobo-Dioulasso. These tests were used to assess the percentage of voltage drops. These values, which are higher than 8% of the nominal voltage, are not regulatory. The load curves of the consumers in the district were also drawn. Indeed, the period of the high load is between 19:00 and 23:00 Local Time (LT), while the period of the medium and low load is between 00:00 and 18:00 LT.

Background: Over the last 50 years, endourology has revolutionized urological practices worldwide. This is not so in many urological centers in West Africa. Although, some centers have made progress in the level of urological services that they offer;many of such centers provide rigid urethrocystoscopy services. Rigid urethrocystoscopy is an endoscopic examination that explores the urethra, bladder and prostate in men. Aims: We report the indications, results and pain assessment of rigid urethrocystoscopy in our center. Patients and Methods: We carried out a retrospective, descriptive, monocentric study in our center between January 2016 and June 2018. The study included all patients who had a rigid urethrocystoscopy under local anaesthesia. We studied the following parameters: sex, age, indications for the examination, outcomes and the pain assessment. Results: Five hundred and forty-one patients were included. The sex-ratio was 1.49. The mean age was 49.47 ± 18.48 years (12 years and 91 years). Lower urinary tract symptoms (29%) and hematuria (28%) were the most common indications. The rigid urethrocystoscopy was normal in 26.8% of patients. Bladder tumors (21.2%) were the most frequent lesions. In men, prostate tumors were more common (21%) followed by bladder tumors (17.9%), while in women, bladder tumors (26.3%) were predominant followed by cystopathy lesions (12.4%).The mean Simple Verbal Scale (SVS) score was 1.25 in women and 2.1 in men. Conclusion: Rigid urethrocystoscopy was relatively well tolerated by our patients. Hematuria was the primary indication and the main etiologies were bladder and prostate tumors.

Antisynthetase Syndrome in Senegalese Patients: Report of Three Cases

Introduction: Antisynthetase syndrome is an original entity and rare autoimmune myositis and systemic disease, characterized clinically by a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations and the presence of autoantibodies directed against aminoacyl RNAt synthetases. We describe this disease in 03 Senegalese patients. Observations: The first patient was a 49-years-old black woman who was referred in our department after 06-months of follow-up for a misdiagnosis of tuberculosis. The clinical examination revealed polyarthritis, muscle weakness, chronic cough with crackling rales at the pulmonary bases, Raynaud phenomenon and dry syndrome. The second patient, a 21-years-old black woman, had polyarthritis and a progressive muscle weakness. The clinical examination showed also cutaneous signs including an erythema on the dorsal part of the fingers and the presence of the heliotrope erythema on the eyes. The last patient was a 52 years-old black woman. His clinical examination showed polyarthritis, muscle weakness and an appearance of mechanics’ hands. The creatinine phosphokinase was at 6.26 × N, 40.3 × N and 33.64 × N respectively in our patients. The chest computer tomography revealed an interstitial lung disease with a pattern of non-specific interstitial pneumonia in all three patients. The autoantibodies anti-Jo1 was also positive in all patients. The diagnosis of antisynthetase syndrome was retained with an overlap of antisynthetase and Sj?gren’s syndrome in the first observation. The evolution was favourable in our 03 observations with a therapeutic combination including Prednisone-Azathioprine and Kinesitherapy. Conclusion: Antisynthetase syndrome has been exceptionally reported in sub-Saharan Africa. It must be particularly mentioned in front of the triad: myositis, arthritis and interstitial lung disease. Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is associated with increasing of cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality due to accelerated atherosclerosis. Several studies showed also the increasing of the prevalence of subclinical atherosclerosis, but there are little data from sub-Saharan Africa. The aim of our study was to assess the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors, subclinical carotid atherosclerosis and the ability of the Systematic Coronary Risk Estimation (SCORE) modified by European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) to predict the high CV risk in our patients. Patients and Method: We conducted a cross sectional study in Senegalese patients with RA. The RA was retained according to 2010 American College of Rheumatology (ACR)-European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) criteria. Patients with RA were assessed in a clinical research consultation. Results: We included 50 RA patients. The mean age was 44 years (+/- 12.37) and the sex-ratiowas 0.06. The frequency distribution of traditional cardiovascular risk factors was: hypertension (HT) (30%), diabetes-mellitus (6%), smoking (2%), no-exercise (22%), obesity (16%), metabolic syndrome (8%). Fifty-eight percent of patients were classified at low cardiovascular risk according to mSCORE. 51.7% of patients classified as moderate-risk according to mSCORE, were reclassified as high cardiovascular risk according to carotid ultrasound evaluation (gold-standard). The sensitivity of the mSCORE in the prediction of high CV risk was low at 20%. In the present study, the prevalence of carotid subclinical atherosclerosis was 20%. Age (>45 years) and HT were correlated to subclinical atherosclerosis. Conclusion: In the present study, the prevalence of atherosclerosis in RA patients was higher than expected frequency in comparison with the prevalence in Senegalese general population. Background: Hypospadias is a congenital malformation resulting from hypoplasia of the tissues forming the ventral face of the penis. It is associated to variable degrees with an ectopic urethral meatus, a penis curvature and a sapper’s apron foreskin [1]. The incidence of this malformation varies from country to country. It is estimated at 1/300 male births in France and 0.26/ 1000 in Mexico [1]. In Senegal, the prevalence of this malformation is unknown. Hypospadias surgery has improved significantly in recent years due to a better understanding of the anatomy on the one hand and the improvement of the instruments used during surgery on the other (suture material, surgical magnification, urethral catheter of suitable size). In sub-Saharan Africa and particularly in Senegal, hypospadias surgery remains a challenge due to the unavailability of adequate equipment (lack of microsurgical instruments and surgical loupes). Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of the treatment of hypospadias by the different surgical techniques used in our center as well as their sexual function in adulthood. Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective study, including all patients operated for hypospadias between January 2009 and December 2017 in Urology-Andrology department of Aristide Le Dantec hospital. The studied parameters were: frequency, age, clinical and therapeutic aspects, and their sexual function in adulthood after treatment. The outcomes of the treatment were judged good or poor depending of the quality of penile straightening, the aesthetic appearance of the penis, the position of the urethral neo-meatus, the permeability of the urethra and the existence or not of fistula. The sexual function was assessed by the International Index of Erectile Function 15 (IIEF) score. Results: Fifty-five patients were included. The median age was 6 years (P25 = 2.8 and P75 = 13 year

The Cenozoic alkaline volcanism of the Senegalo-Mauritania sedimentary basin presents an episodic long-lasting volcanic activity from the Eocene-Oligocene boundary up to the Quaternary. Two volcanic episodes are usually distinguished on stratigraphical grounds: a Miocene one and a Quaternary one separated by a period of quiescence of several million years corresponding to the main phase of lateritic weathering. The Tertiary lavas are highly silica-undersaturated alkaline rocks ranging from nephelinites to basanites. They contain nepheline and fassaite-type clinopyroxene in their mineralogy. The Quaternary lavas are more evolved with Hy-normative in comparison to the Tertiary ones;they are composed of basanites and medium to coarser-grained dolerites. The distribution of the REE and other incompatible elements are typical of alkaline lavas with generally strong LREE enrichment without significant Eu anomaly. The Cenozoic Cap-Vert lavas have OIB (oceanic islands basalts)-affinities as shown by their relatively radiogenic Nd and unradiogenic Sr characters closed to the HIMU-OIB. This suggests a HIMU-type end member in the magma sources which is fairly comparable to those erupted in the Canaries and Cape Verde archipelagoes during the same period.

Performance of the Boost Chopper, Comparative Study between PI Control and Neural Control to Regulate Its Output Voltage

In this study, we investigate the performance of a boost converter regulating its output voltage using two control methods: Proportional-Integral (PI) control and neural control. Both methods are implemented on a simulation platform (Matlab/Simulink) and evaluated in terms of accuracy, response speed, and robustness to disturbances. Indeed, the output voltage of converters exhibits imperfections that require a control method to optimize efficiency when applying a variable load. Results show that neural control offers superior performance in terms of accuracy and response time, with faster and more precise regulation of the output voltage. On the other hand, PI control proves to be more robust against disturbances. These findings can help guide the selection of the appropriate control method for a boost converter based on the specific requirements of each application.

Since 1976, eradicating hunger has become one of the priority objectives of the United Nations, which is included in the Charter of Human Rights;the right to get adequate food. The qualification of food security in time and space must analyze not only the three components it covers but also the relationships that these three components maintain. Climate change contributes to food insecurity, but it is not the only factor. To address food insecurity in various forms, greater food security must be combined with improved sustainable agricultural practices with minimal strain on the environment. This review of literature insists on the principles of food security, which in particular allows a better understanding of food insecurity in developing countries and favors a greater contribution of agriculture and food systems in general to nutritional progress.

Outcome of Unclassified Inflammatory Rheumatism: Observation of 7 Cases in Dakar

Introduction: Unclassified inflammatory rheumatism is persistent inflammatory arthralgias with or without synovitis without sufficient classification criteria for an inflammatory rheumatism or a well-defined connective disease. Their outcome is variable and has been little studied in Africa. We report the epidemiological, paraclinical and evolutionary characteristics of seven cases of indeterminate polyarthritis. Material and Method: From January 2012 to May 2021, we selected all the files of patients followed up for unclassified inflammatory rheumatism and in whom a precise diagnosis was retained during the course of the disease. The diagnosis of unclassified inflammatory rheumatism was retained after biological, immunological and radiological explorations without specificities. Our study took place in the Internal Medicine Department of Aristide Le Dantec Hospital (HALD). Results: Seven cases out of 274 consulted were collected. They consisted of seven women with an average age of 39 years at the time of the first consultation (extremes: 19 and 67 years). All seven patients presented with inflammatory polyarthralgia or non-deforming, non-erosive peripheral polyarthritis, without extra-articular manifestations. A biological inflammatory syndrome was present in all seven patients. Autoantibodies (rheumatoid factor, ANA, anti-ENA and ACPA) were negative in all patients. The first-line treatments in all seven cases were hydroxychloroquine (200 - 400 mg/day) and prednisone (5 - 10 mg/day). Methotrexate was added in 3 cases. During follow-up, 2 cases progressed to Polyarthritis Rheumatoid (PR) after 3 and 4 years. Two cases progressed to Sjögren’s syndrome after 4 and 5 years. Two patients progressed to systemic scleroderma after 5 and 8 years. One patient progressed to lupus after 5 years. Conclusion: Regular follow-up is essential in IAN. Introduction: Influenza is an acute respiratory infectious disease, highly contagious due to influenza viruses. The objective of this work was to identify, understand the epidemiology of circulating strains and estimate disease transmission. Patients and Methods: The study was carried out in the pediatric department of the Sikasso Hospital. This was a prospective, longitudinal descriptive study over a five-year period (January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2019). She was interested in severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) for hospitalized patients in the pediatric department. Results: During the study period the prevalence of severe acute respiratory infections among hospitalized children was 21.85‰. The majority of cases were observed in 2019 with 58 cases, the sex ratio was 1.8. The age group from 0 to 1 was the most represented with 100 cases (48.30%) followed by 2 to 4 years 73 cases (35.24%) and 5 to 15 years 34 cases (16.46%). More than half of the patients lived in rural areas 129 (62.31%). Fever and cough were present in the majority of patients. No children had received influenza vaccination. In study 36 (17.39%) cases were positive for influenza A and B.
