The Health Project—Community Health USAID is a community-based intervention that has been implemented by a group of NGOs, among which there is Africare, for a period of 5 years (2006-2011). It seeks to strengthen the community health system through a package of basic services offered at the health center, and as well as to improve the skills and knowledge of community actors. The main objective of this study is to capture the perceptions of beneficiaries and stakeholders about the services offered at the PSSC health posts located in the health district Goudomp. A qualitative cross-sectional study on the perception of the community of the USAID PSSC and quality of services offered by the health huts was conducted from the 2nd to 5th of May 2009 in the Goudomp health district. To achieve the objectives of this study, we conducted focus group discussions with all the community leaders and had individual interviews with the community health workers (CHWs) and the supervisor of the NGO Africare. From most of the discussions, it can be concluded that the activities of the health hut are not well known by the populations. The best known activities are those performed by the nurse: immunization and prenatal care. The existence of health huts at the community level was considered beneficial by all the community leaders. For the majority of the participants to the focus group discussions, the health huts “provided access to basic care”. Some participants, however, pointed out the “frequent drugs shortages” which, according to them, would explain the low attendance of the health huts in favor of the health post. The majority of CHWs and matrons felt that supervision activities were done on a regular basis. During the interviews, they mentioned many difficulties. However, the most common problem is the fact that the CHWs and the matron “who have no other source of income” were not salaried workers. With the requirements for high performance results in the today’s mobile, global, highly competitive, and technology-based business world, business professionals have to get supported by convenient mobile decision support systems (DSS). To give an improved support to mobile business professionals, it is necessary to go further than just allowing a simple remote access to a Business Intelligence platform. In this paper, the need for actual context-aware mobile Geospatial Business Intelligence (GeoBI) systems that can help capture, filter, organize and structure the user mobile context is exposed and justified. Furthermore, since capturing, structuring, and modeling mobile contextual information is still a research issue, a wide inventory of existing research work on context and mobile context is provided. Then, step by step, we methodologically identify relevant contextual information to capture for mobility purposes as well as for BI needs, organize them into context-dimensions, and build a hierarchical mobile GeoBI context model which (1) is geo-spatial-extended, (2) fits with human perception of mobility, (3) takes into account the local context interactions and information-sharing with remote contexts, and (4) matches with the usual hierarchical aggregated structure of BI data.

Etiological Factors of Infective Endocarditis in Children Aged 1 Month to 15 Years Hospitalised in the Paediatric Department of CHU Gabriel Touréof Bamako (Mali)

Introduction: In emerging countries where studies are rarer, the epidemiological profile of infective endocarditis resembles that of developed countries at the beginning of the antibiotic era. There is little data available in Mali on this subject, motivating this study, the aim of which was to study the etiological factors of infective endocarditis in children aged between 1 month and 15 years hospitalised in the paediatric department of the CHU Gabriel Touré. Patients and Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional and descriptive study, which took place from August 2018 to August 2019 (13 months), in children aged between 1 month and 15 years hospitalised in the paediatric department of the Gabriel Touré University Hospital with an ultrasound- confirmed cardiac disease and a temperature above 38°C. Results: The hospitalization rate was 0.4%. The average age was 11 months, the sex ratio was 1.35. Respiratory distress (63.6%) and fever (30.3%) were the most common reasons for referral. Congenital heart disease (87.9%) and dyspnoea on feeding (24.2%) were the most common medical histories. IVC was the most frequent congenital heart disease (36.4%). The mean temperature was 39.1°C. Blood cultures were taken in 24 patients (72.7%) and were positive in 27.3%. Staphylococcus aureus was found in 55.6% of cases. Trans-thoracic ultrasound found vegetations in 03 cases. According to the modified DUKE criteria, the diagnosis of endocarditis was retained in 27.30%. The evolution was marked by a high case fatality rate (45.45%). Conclusion: Endocarditis is an uncommon disease in children with a pulmonary portal of entry and Staphylococcus aureus as the main germ. Its mortality remains high.

Introduction: Corneal trauma can be defined as any impact on the cornea following direct or indirect trauma by a traumatic agent. Due to its anatomical position, the cornea is the superficial membrane most exposed to ocular trauma. It is a frequent pathology in ophthalmology, especially in young active subjects. It is an important cause of poor vision or loss of the eyeball with a significant socio-economic impact. Material and Method: We conducted a prospective cross-sectional study of descriptive type with a duration of 5 months from November 01, 2020 to March 31, 2021 in order to study the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic profile of corneal trauma. Results: During the study period, 179 patients consulted for corneal trauma, i.e. 64.9% of ocular trauma. The age group 20 to 29 years old was the most affected with a frequency of 29.1%. The average age of our patients was 26.6 years old, with extremes ranging from 1 to 75 years old. The majority of patients were male with a frequency of 68.2% and a sex ratio of 2.1. Decreased visual acuity was the most frequent reason for consultation in our patients with 93.2%. Perforation was the most frequent type of trauma with 80.3%. All of our patients were treated with medication (100%), 65.3% with physical treatment and 41.8% with surgery. Conclusion: Corneal trauma is a real public health problem. They are especially frequent in young active subjects. Prevention remains the most effective means of treatment.

An OWL-Based Mobile GeoBI Context Ontology Enabling Location-Based and Context-Based Reasoning and Supporting Contextual Business Analysis

Mobile professionals need to be assisted with suitable mobile GeoBI (Geospatial Business Intelligence) systems, which are able to capture, organize and structure the user’s reality into a relevant context model and reason on it. GeoBI context modelling and reasoning are still research issues since there is not yet either a model or a relevant taxonomy regarding GeoBI contextual information. To fill this gap, this paper proposes an extended and detailed OWL-based mobile GeoBI context ontology to provide context-aware applications and users with relevant contextual information and context-based reasoning capabilities. Context quality issues are handled an implementation architecture which is provided.

Characterization and Risk Assessment of the Collapse of the Woody Stand of Ecosystems of the Fathala Forest (Saloum Delta Biosphere Reserve-Senegal)

The objective of this study is to characterize and assess the risk of collapse of woody plant formations in the Fathala forest. In recent years, this forest has suffered a sharp reduction in its plant cover to the point of compromising the survival of populations of certain animal species such as the Red colobuses. The methods used are respectively constituted by the transect method, the dendrometric statements method and that of establishing the red list of ecosystems of the IUCN. The specific richness comprises 56 species divided into 47 genera and 22 families. The density is higher in the unfenced area (369 ind/ha in clear forest and 53 ind/ha in gallery forest) compared to the fenced area (160 ind/ha in clear forest versus 48 ind/ha in gallery forest). A study of the plant formations shows a strong degradation of the ecosystems passing from a clear and dry Sudanese forest to a wooded savannah. The cover rate in the fenced area is 20% in gallery forests and 25% in clear forests;in the unfenced area, it is 19% and 23% in gallery forests and clear forests, respectively. The application of the IUCN criteria shows an annual rate of collapse is -6 ind/ha in gallery forests and -4 ind/ha in clear forests. The annual rate of cover collapse would be -3.75% and -2.9% for gallery forests and clear forests, respectively. These results classify the forest in the Critically Endangered category. The main factors responsible for this degradation are, among others, anthropogenic actions and climatic pejoration. These results could constitute a basic tool for undertaking an improvement in the management of this forest, which is a living environment for an animal species.

Mineralogical Characterization of Heavy Mineral Concentrates from Senegalese Great Cost by Using Qemscan and SEM

The heavy mineral sands of Senegal are exploited to extract titanium oxides and zircon. Mining is carried out first by means of a floating dredge and concentration plant which produces a heavy mineral concentrate (HMC) containing on average 78% titanium oxides, 11% zircon and a set of silicate and alumino-silicate minerals. This heavy mineral concentrate is then treated by gravity, magnetic and electrostatic separation to produce titanium oxide concentrates (ilmenite, leucoxene, rutile) and three varieties of zircon concentrates (Premium zircon, standard zircon and medium grade zircon standard). In this study, we describe the various mineral concentrates in terms of mineralogical assemblages, and textural variability within grains, using Qemscan and Scanning Electron Microscopy. The titanium oxide concentrates are differentiated by their TiO2 content and vary from ilmenite to rutile. The zircon concentrates are characterized by the presence of impurities in the zircons, which consist in numerous inclusions of titanium oxides and silicate minerals. The mineralogical characteristics determined by scanning electron microscopy and by Qemscan showed great variability within the grains themselves. Heavy minerals contain many mineral inclusions and show strong chemical zoning.

Comparative Study of Available Solar Potential for Six Stations of Sahel

Sahel is an African area with high solar potential. However, this potential is not uniform across the region. This paper examines the spatial distribution of the available solar potential by using six stations across the Sahel area. This comparative study was based on the analysis of in situ measurements in Dakar in Senegal, Niamey in Niger, Ouagadougou, Gaoua, Dori in Burkina Faso and N’Djamena in Chad. The results showed the presence of a good global solar potential with an average value of about 5.43 kWh/m2/day. The maxima of global potential are noted in the northern part in Niamey with a value of 6.24 kWh/m2/day while the minima are recorded in the south-eastern part in N’Djamena with an irradiation close to 4.71 kWh/m2/day. Then, the monthly evolution of this potential shows similar trends for all stations. Indeed, two maximums are observed during the year in Spring (March) and Autumn (October). However, for most of these stations, the minima of global potential are recorded in Winter (November, February) and during the rainy season (July, October). Moreover, the direct normal potential also shows seasonal trends for the two stations (Dakar, Niamey) where it was measured. The maxima of direct normal irradiation (DNI) are observed between February and May with a value of 5.5 kWh/m2/day in Dakar and in Niamey with a value around 5.32 kWh/m2/day between February and November.

Tuberculosis of the Uterine Cervix: About a Case and Literature Review

The authors report a case of tuberculosis of the uterine cervix observed at the maternity unit of the Souro Sanon Teaching Hospital (CHUSS) of Bobo-Dioulasso. This is a rare localization of genital tuberculosis and can take the appearance of a cervical cancer. Biopsy with histological study of the lesion confirms the diagnosis. The frequency of this pathology can reach up to 8%. The extension to the endometrium and/or tubes in a young woman may compromise future fertility. Early and well conducted TB treatment allows the ad integrum restitution cervix.
