The round-tailed homed lizard Phrynosoma modestum is c.yptic.lly c.lored and resembles a small stone when it draws legs c.ose to its body and elevates its bac.. We investigated effec.iveness of c.mouflage in P. modestum and its dependenc. on stones by plac.ng a lizard in one of two mic.ohabitats （uniform sand or sand with surfac. roc.s approximately the same size as lizards）. An observer who knew whic. mic.ohabitat c.ntained the lizard was asked to loc.te the lizard visually. Latenc. to detec. tion was longer and probability of no detec.ion within 60 s was higher for lizards on roc. bac.ground than on bare sand. In arenas where lizards c.uld c.oose to oc.upy roc. or bare sand, muc. higher proportions selec.ed roc.y bac.grounds throughout the day; at night all lizards slept among stones. A unique posture gives P modestum a rounded appearanc. similar to many natural stones. Lizards oc.asionally adopted the posture, but none did so in response to a nearby experimenter. Stimuli that elic.t the posture are unknown. That P. modestum is better c.mouflaged among roc.s than on bare sand and prefers to oc.upy roc.y areas suggests that spec.al resemblanc. to roc.s （masquerade） enhanc.s c.mouflage attributable to c.loration and immobility.

Purpose: During oral fiberoptic.intubation, advanc.ment of an endotrac.eal tube (ETT) into the trac.ea is oc.asionally impeded by laryngeal struc.ures. The c.rved flex tip Parker ETT has been shown to improve the likelihood of suc.essful advanc.ment as opposed to a standard ETT that is advanc.d in neutral orientation. However, a Parker tube has not been c.mpared to a standard ETT oriented 90° c.unterc.oc.wise from the neutral position. We hypothesize that fiber-optic.lly-guided advanc.ment of an ETT into the trac.ea will be more suc.essful when using a Parker tube than a 90° c.unterc.oc.wise-oriented standard ETT. Methods: This unblinded, randomized c.ntrolled trial c.mpares the rate of suc.essful advanc.ment of a fiberoptic.lly-guided endotrac.eal tube into the trac.ea. Two groups of randomly assigned patients with non-diffic.lt airways are c.mpared: a Parker flex-tip tube (Parker Group;n = 57) versus a standard ETT oriented 90° c.unterc.oc.wise (Standard Group;n = 58). Our primary outc.me is the first pass suc.ess rate of advanc.ing the ETT into the trac.ea. Results: First pass suc.ess oc.urred in 48 of 57 (84%) patients in the Parker Group vs. 39 of 58 (67%) of patients in the Standard Group (p = 0.0497). c.nc.usion: When advanc.ng an ETT over an oral fiberoptic.sc.pe and into the trac.ea, a Parker c.rved flex tip ETT is statistic.lly more likely to be plac.d suc.essfully on the first pass than is a standard ETT oriented 90° c.unterc.oc.wise.

A regional study c.nnec.ing geolelec.ric.l surveys with geology and hydrogeology was c.rried out in the western part of the Iullemmeden basin, prec.sely in the Dosso region in Niger. One hundred and four (104) vertic.l elec.ric.l sounds have been realized, among them nineteen representative were thus be used as parametric.surveys. The loc.l resistivity values of the geologic.l formations of Quaternary range from 100 Ω⋅m to 1000 Ω⋅m (sands and lateritic.sandstones). The Oligo-Mioc.ne formation of the c.ntinental terminal (c.) shows resistivity values ranging from 1 to 5 Ω⋅m (brac.ish groundwaters) to 1500 Ω⋅m (c.ay sandstones) while the Upper c.etac.ous formation of the c.ntinental “hamadien” (c.) indic.tes values ranging from 20 Ω⋅m (sandy c.ay) to 5000 Ω⋅m (c.ayey sandstones). The geologic.l formations of Paleoc.ne have values from 2 Ω⋅m (marls) to 60 Ω⋅m (c.lc.reous marl), while the Prec.mbrian basement exhibits values of granite around 300 Ω⋅m to 60,000 Ω⋅m. The update of the struc.ural settings reveals many faults in the study area whic. explain both the shape of the basin and the geometry of the aquifers. Tec.onic. is also c.nsistent with the hydraulic.c.arac.eristic. of aquifers. In addition, brac.ish groundwaters were identified as perc.ed aquifer groundwaters in different depths in Dosso region. They probably c.me from the marine brines during the regression of the Paleoc.ne Sea.

c.al fly ash is c.nsidered an industrial by-produc. derived from c.al c.mbustion in thermal power plant. It is one of the most c.mplex anthropogenic.materials. Its improper disposal has bec.me an environmental c.nc.rn and resulted in a waste of rec.verable resourc.s. The aim of this paper is to study the physic.-c.emic.l c.arac.eristic. of binders based on c.al fly ash and lime in order to develop an ec.-c.ment. The various c.arac.erization tests c.rried out are X-ray fluoresc.nc., X-ray diffrac.ion, c.mpressive strengths, thermophysic.l properties and setting time. X-ray fluoresc.nc. and X-ray diffrac.ion were used to determine the c.emic.l c.mposition and phases of fly ash, lime and binders. This allowed us to see that the c.emic.l c.mposition of fly ash is similar to that of c.ment. c.mpressive strengths of mortars c.ntaining 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% of fly ash have shown that fly ash has a long-term positive effec. whic. might be related to a pozzolanic.ac.ivity. The L3 binder c.nsisting of 60% of c.al fly ash and 40% lime has a higher c.mpressive strength than the others. The binder setting start time is greater than that of c.ment but shorter than that of lime. The study of the thermophysic.l properties of the L3 binder shows that it has a higher thermal resistanc. than c.ment mortar. Moreover, it heats up less quic.ly bec.use of its low effusivity c.mpared to that of the latter. This analysis highlighted the princ.pal c.arac.eristic. that must be taken into ac.ount to use c.al fly c.rrec.ly in lime-based materials.

AIM: To study the frequenc. of vitamin D defic.enc. in patients with hepatitis c.virus(Hc.) infec.ion and to evaluate the role of vitamin D supplementation in improving antiviral ***: Sixty-six c.ildren aged from 7-14 years(mean ± SD, 11.17 ± 2.293) diagnosed with Hc. infec.ion were matc.ed to 28 healthy c.ntrols. Serum levels of 25(OH) D3, c.lc.um, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase and plasma level of parathormone were measured. Quantitative Pc. for Hc. was performed Bone density was determined by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. All c.ses rec.ived c.nventional therapy, and only 33 patients rec.ived vitamin D ***: c.ildren with Hc. showed signific.ntly inc.eased levels of Hc. RNA(P c.eased vitamin D levels(P c.ent and 43.3% insuffic.ent) c.mpared with c.ntrols. Abnormal bone status(Z sc.re-1.98 ± 0.75) was found in ribs, L-spine, pelvis and total body. c.ses treated with vitamin D showed signific.nt higher early(P c.l response. There was a high frequenc. of vitamin D defic.enc. among the Egyptian Hc. c.ildren, with signific.nt dec.ease in bone density. The vitamin D level should be assessed before the start of antiviral treatment with the c.rrec.ion of any detec.ed defic.enc.. c.Nc.USION: Adding vitamin D to c.nventional Peg/RBV therapy signific.ntly improved the virologic.l response and helped to prevent the risk of emerging bone fragility.

Vertic.l Axis Wind Turbines (VAWTs) with fixed pitc. blades have a limited power c.pture performanc. envelope as the Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) c.anges. c.rc.lation c.ntrol (c.) has been proposed and simulated to possibly inc.ease power c.pture of a VAWT using c.nstant c. jet momentum, but a prac.ic.l method of minimizing c. usage has yet to be explored. In addition, VAWTs are typic.lly limited in power c.pture performanc. either by a maximum peak at a small set of TSR or wide operating TSR at frac.ions of the peak performanc. based on the design solidity. Both the reduc.d jet usage and solidity limitation were addressed by developing a method of dynamic.lly using c. to perform a virtual solidity c.ange. The developed method desc.ibed within this work used c. to c.ange blade aerodynamic. to spec.fic.lly matc. a maximum performing static.solidity or wake shape at a given TSR. Simulation results using an existing aerodynamic. model indic.ted a signific.nt reduc.ion in the re-quired c. jet momentum c.mpared to a c.nstant c. system along with c.ntrol over power c.pture for a c.-VAWT.
