Effects of a.dition of H2 ga. in a.r DB discha.ge on its optica. a.d electrica. cha.a.teristics ha.e been studied. Optica. emission spectroscopy is used to investiga.e the effect of hydrogen a.mixing on the emission intensity of the nitrogen second positive systems (300 - 420 nm) a.d the rela.ive popula.ion density of sta.es. a. obvious deca.ing of the emission intensity of the nitrogen second positive ba.ds with the introduction of H2 ha. been observed. It ha. been concluded tha. quenching of the nitrogen excited sta.e is the responsible rea.on of this deca.ing. Mecha.isms of excita.ion a.d ioniza.ion processes of nitrogen molecules in this mixture ha.e been studied. Processes which a.e responsible for the deca.ing of the popula.ion density of ha.e been reported. a.dition of H2 to a.r improves the electrica. cha.a.teristics of the DB discha.ge. a. a.rupt increa.ing in the electron density, rea.hed a.out thirty fold a. H2 flow ra.e of 3 L/min, a. a.result of increa.ing the ioniza.ion processes ha. been reported. The brea.down volta.e of the discha.ge decrea.ed from 1.87 kV to a.out 1.25 kV by the a.dition of H2 a. flow ra.e of 3 L/min.

a.novel wa.er trea.ment technique, ba.ed on a.combina.ion of electrospra.ing a.d pulsed corona.discha.ge, ha. been used for bio-deconta.ina.ion of wa.tewa.er. The electrospra.ing process ha. been found to increa.e the surfa.e a.ea.of the trea.ed wa.tewa.er, a.d hence increa.es the efficiency of the corona.trea.ment process. The pha.e dia.ra. of the discha.ge, which cha.a.terizes the discha.ge regimes, ha. been identified experimenta.ly. The surviva. ra.io of the microorga.isms ha. been investiga.ed experimenta.ly a. a.function of the a.plied volta.e a.d the numbers of trea.ment runs using a.r a.d oxygen a. working ga.es. Microorga.ism surfa.e ha. been exa.ined using sca.ning electron microscope (SEM), which ena.led in understa.ding the deconta.ina.ion mecha.isms of the trea.ed microorga.ism. a.complete deconta.ina.ion ha. been a.hieved a.ter only one run for a. a.plied volta.e higher tha. 16 kV when the discha.ge system wa. opera.ed in oxygen ga.. Optica. emission spectrum of the electrospra.ed wa.er confirmed the existence of OH-ra.ica.s responsible for deconta.ina.ion process.

Electric discha.ge ha. been ca.ried out in LPG using DC high volta.e (0.4 - 3 KV) a. ga. pressure in the ra.ge of 1 to 25 torr. The electric a.d spectroscopic cha.a.teristics of the discha.ge were studied a. different discha.ge conditions. Devia.ions from Pa.chen’s la. were observed a. a.result of the cha.ge of the dista.ce between the two the electrodes. Two discha.ge modes, na.ely glow discha.ge a.d spa.k discha.ge modes, ha. been observed in the discha.ge current wa.eforms. The discha.ge current wa.eforms indica.e a.repetitive pulsed beha.iour with frequencies of 5 kHz to 5 MHz depending upon the a.plied volta.e a.d the ga. pressure. The emitted spectra.from the discha.ge a.e a.so studied nea. both the ca.hode a.d the a.ode using different electrode ma.eria.s. Hα line a.d C2 Swa. ba.d system a.e observed, which confirms the conversion of LPG to hydrogen a.d ca.bon clusters.
