The incorporation of weather variables is crucial in developing an effective demand forecasting model because electricity demand is strongly influenced by weather *** dependence of demand on weather conditions may change with time during a ***,the time stamped weather information is *** this paper,a multi-layer moving window approach is proposed to incorporate the significant weather variables,which are selected using Pearson and Spearman correlation *** multi-layer moving window approach allows the layers to adjust their size to accommodate the weather variables based on their significance,which creates more flexibility and adaptability thereby improving the overall performance of the proposed ***,a recursive model is developed to forecast the demand in multi-step *** electricity demand data for the state of New South Wales,Australia are acquired from the Australian Energy Market Operator and the associated results are reported in the *** results show that the proposed approach with dynamic incorporation of weather variables is promising for day-ahead and week-ahead load demand forecasting.

We study the existence and stability of envelope solitons on a continuous-wave background in a non-Kerr quintic optical material exhibiting a self-steepening *** propagation in such a nonlinear medium is governed by the Gerdjikov-Ivanov *** find that the system supports a variety of localized waveforms exhibiting an important frequency chirping property which makes them potentially useful in many practical applications to optical *** frequency chirp is found to be crucially dependent on the intensity of the wave and its amplitude can be controlled by a suitable choice of self-steepening *** obtained nonlinearly chirped solitons include bright,gray and kink *** also discuss the stability of the chirped solitons numerically under finite initial *** results show that the main character of chirped localized structures is not influenced by finite initial perturbations such as white noise.

The rapid technological convergence between Internet of Things （loT）, Wireless Body Area Networks （WBANs） and cloud computing has made e-healthcare emerge as a promising application domain, which has significant potential to improve the quality of medical care. In particular, patient-centric health monitoring plays a vital role in e-healthcare service, involving a set of important operations ranging from medical data collection and aggregation, data transmission and segregation, to data analytics. This survey paper firstly presents an architectural framework to describe the entire monitoring life cycle and highlight the essential service components. More detailed discussions are then devoted to {／em data collection} at patient side, which we argue that it serves as fundamental basis in achieving robust, efficient, and secure health monitoring. Subsequently, a profound discussion of the security threats targeting eHealth monitoring systems is presented, and the major limitations of the existing solutions are analyzed and extensively discussed. Finally, a set of design challenges is identified in order to achieve high quality and secure patient-centric monitoring schemes, along with some potential solutions.

In this paper, via numerical simulation we designed the geometry of solar cell made by onedimensional （1D） and two-dimensional （2D） photonic crystals with two kinds of materiel （silicon （Si） and hydrogenated amorphous silicon （a-Si：H）） in order to enhance its absorption. The absorption characteristics of light in the solar cell structures are simulated by using finite-difference time-domain （FDTD） method. The calculation results show that the enhancement of absorption in patterned structure is apparent comparing to the unpatterned one, which proves the ability of the structure to produce photonic crystal solar cell. We found solar cell geometries as a 2D photonic crystal enable to increase the absorption between 380 and 750 nm.

The promotion of blast furnaces slag in construction industry aims at protecting the environment, fighting against the nuisance such as waste dumps and promoting local products. The use of granulated slag as a part replacement of Portland cement or in the production of clinker free binder constitutes a valuable outlet for this product. The aim of this study is the characterization of local granular slag using various techniques such as chemical analysis, X ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis, infrared spectrometry, and conductimetry. These methods provide a clearer understanding of the vitreous structure of this type of slag and also provide clues as to the nature of its hydraulic reactivity. Mechanical tests have been carried out using 4 × 4 × 16 cm3 prismatic mortars using a composition activated by the clinker, varying the fineness of slag, its content and the nature of clinkers. Results obtained show that this type of slag is reactive, the evolution of its mechanical resistance depends on its fineness, and that long-term mechanical performance is of great interest.

The purpose of this work is to associate the channel encoder called ‘trellis-coded modulation with Ungerboeck-Gray mapping’ (TCM-UGM) to ‘space–time block code’ (STBC), in order to study its performance to correct the transmission errors of a JPEG image. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated in senses of bit error rate (BER), frame error rate (FER) and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of the reconstructed image. Compared to the association TCM/STBC for a throughput of 2 bits/s/Hz, TCM-UGM/STBC permits to obtain a PSNR gain up to 2 dB.

Waste and industrial by-products represent a significant percentage of the industrial landfill. The evaluation of these products has a dual effect: it avoids both the landfill (risk of environmental pollution) and limits the use of natural aggregates (depletion of natural resources and landscape fragmentation and the imbalance of the ecosystem). In recent years, applications for industrial waste have been taken into account in the construction of roads with a great interest in many industrialized countries and developing countries. The use of these materials in the construction of the road is a decision based on technical, economic and ecological criteria. In Algeria, the steel plant of El-Hadjar (Annaba), due to its activity generates a significant industrial waste (slag) which creates a storage problem and pollution. For industrialized countries, this product is an abundant raw material at low cost that must be used on a large scale public works. Our study implies the use of slag in the preparation of the subgrade and surface course (as coated). The results of chemical, physical and mechanical analyses of El-Hadjar slag and materials developed, compared to those of natural aggregates, can be used as aggregate in road construction.

This paper presents the results of experimental investigations on mechanical properties of self compacting concrete made with local materials. The used materials were cement, aggregate and super plasticizer. Limestone powder, silica fume and blast furnace slag have been used as adjuvant in self compacting concrete (SCC). Self compacting concrete properties in fresh and hardened state are characterized and analyzed. The test results indicate the possibility to manufacture SCC with good rheological and mechanical properties using local materials.

Genotoxicity of Some Essential Oils Frequently Used in Aromatherapy

Genotoxic properties of the essential oils extracted from Artemisia dracunculus (tarragon), Ocimum basilicum (basil), Cinnamomum loureirii (cinnamon), Laurus nobilis (laurel), Satureja montana (savory) and Rosmarinus officinallis (rosemary) are studied by Drosophila melanogaster Somatic Mutation and Recombination Test (SMART). The high bioactivation crossed with a high cytochrome P450-dependent bioactivation capacity is used. This assay is principally based on the loss of heterozygosity of the suitable recessive markers’ multiple wing hairs (mwh) and flare-3 (flr3) which can lead to the formation of mutant clones of larval cells, and which are then going to be expressed as spots on the wings of adult flies. Third-instar larvae are treated for 48 hr with different concentrations of the essential oils dissolved in Tween-80 at 0.2% or 2%. The wings of the emerging adults are analyzed for the occurrence of different types of mutant spots. No statistically significant differences in spot frequencies between negative controls and treated series are observed. These results suggest that the six essential oils at concentrations tested are not genotoxic towards somatic cells of D. melanogaster.
