Temperature Trend on Makkah, Saudi Arabia

The main objective of this study is to investigate temperature trend and distribution over 29 years period (1985 to 2013) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, the holiest city for all Muslims. Monthly mean, maximum, and minimum temperature levels and their trends are investigated using Regression analysis and Theil-Sen nonparametric test. Also, trends in deviations from the reference period (1985-2013) are analyzed. The results showed that the number of hot days and nights increased annually by 1.5966 and 1.832, respectively, while the number of cold nights decreased annually by 0.4054 nights. Both Regression analysis and Theil-Sen test demonstrated positive trends in mean, minimum and maximum temperature levels. Trends are determined for various seasons and months of the year. The annual mean of daily mean, maximum and minimum temperature increased by 0.0398°C, 0.0552°C, 0.0398°C per year, respectively. The minimum value of monthly mean temperature (Tmmean = 23.98°C) was found in January, whereas the maximum value of the mean temperature (Tmmean= 35.95°C) was found in July. Maximum value of monthly mean of daily maximum temperature (Tmmax = 43.88°C) was found in June and minimum (30.54°C) in January. The monthly mean of the daily minimum temperature (Tmmin) varied between a minimum of 18.82°C in January and a maximum of 29.59°C in August. From the above analysis it can be concluded that Makkah is suffering from a considerable warming temperature trend which is confirmed by the Theil-Sen non-parametric test and there is potentially an increasing medical risk from heat waves that will be more intense. This requires specific attention toward: the energy demands for extra cooling, water resources, draughts, and medical preparedness by the decision makers in order to minimize these risks to residents, pilgrims who gather annually to perform hajj rituals and other visitors.

Analysis of Hops Length in Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless sensor networks are provided with a limited source of power. The lifetime of such networks is an overwhelming matter in most network applications. This lifetime depends strongly on how efficiently such energy is distributed over the nodes especially during transmitting and receiving data. Each node may route messages to destination nodes either through short hops or long hops. Optimizing the length of these hops may save energy, and therefore extend the lifetime of WSNs. In this paper, we propose a theorem to optimize the hop’s length so to make WSN power consumption minimal. The theorem establishes a simple condition on hop’s length range. Computer simulation when performing such condition on Mica2 sensors and Mica2dot sensors reveals good performance regarding WSNs energy consumption.

Multiperspective Representation of Internal Controls in Business Processes

The internal control process, which is designed to help an organization accomplish specific control objectives, is one of the most important processes, as it can determine whether or not the organization is in compliance with its internal or external requirements. Internal controls emerge from different perspectives. Currently, experts view and act on one control perspective at a time, which creates inefficiencies and duplication. This software engineering research is aimed at proposing a multiperspective framework for representing internal controls, in order to obtain a centralized and comprehensive view of all internal control mechanisms. To carry out this research, we also needed to represent the many different stakeholder perspectives of internal controls. Based on a literature review of mathematical and psychological analysis, we searched for the most suitable multiperspective representation of internal controls, and assessed the many representation options using the AHP (analytical hierarchical process) sensitivity analysis approach. This approach has been applied to a study group which has been called to answer to a questionnaire.

Wave Energy Assessment Along the Moroccan Atlantic Coast

The aim of the present work is to assess the offshore wave energy potential along the Atlantic coast of *** works of this paper focus on the identification of the most energetic sites for wave energy converters(WECs)*** this purpose,11 sites have been explored;all of them are located at more than 40m depth on the Moroccan Atlantic *** wave power at each site is computed on the basis of wave data records in terms of significant wave height and energy period provided by theWaveWatch three(WW3)*** indicate that the coast sites located between latitudes 30°30′N and 33°N are the most energetic with an annual average wave power estimated at about 30 kW?m^-1,whereas,in the other sites,the wave power is significantly ***,the study of the monthly and seasonal temporal variability is found to be uniform in the powerful sites with values four times greater in winter than in *** directional investigation on the significant wave height has shown that for almost all the powerful sites,the incoming waves have a dominant sector ranging between Northern(N)and Western-Northern-Western(WNW)directions.

Failure envelope of a caisson foundation under combined vertical,horizontal and moment loadings

3D Conformal Re-Irradiation with Temozolamide for Recurrent Glioblastoma: A Prospective Cohort Study

Introduction and objectives: Salvage treatment of recurrent Glioblastoma (GBM) is one of the most challenging tasks in neuro-oncology. There is no standard treatment for recurrent GBM as options include resection, chemotherapy, and re-irradiation either separate or in combination. Role of concomitant temozolamide with re-irradiation in recurrent disease is still debatable. Therefore, this study evaluates efficacy of concurrent and adjuvant temozolamide with re-irradiation in management of recurrent GBM. Patients and methods: Twenty two patients with recurrent glioblastoma were eligible. Patients were treated with 3 D conformal radiotherapy. The dose ranged from 30 to 40 Gy in 1.6 to 1.8 Gy per fraction for 5 days per week. Temozolamide was administrated at 50 mg/m2 daily dose during radiation therapy. Adjuvant Temozolomide (200 mg/m2) was given orally for five days every four weeks for 4 - 6 cycles for patients who did not receive temozolamide before, and 150 mg/m2 for pretreated patients. Results: 22 patients received re-irradiation with median dose 38 Gy (range 33 - 40 Gy), concurrent with temozolamide. The time interval between primary and re-irradiation ranged from 6 to 23 months with median 12 months. The re-irradiated volume, median was 101.95 cm3 (range 30 - 375 cm3). The median cumulative maximum dose to optic system and brain stem were 53.5 Gy (range 42 - 63 Gy), and 60 Gy (range 54 - 73 Gy), respectively. Response rate was 72.7%, one patient showed complete response (4.5%), partial response and stable disease registered in 22.7% and 45.5%, respectively. The median overall survival (OS) was 10 months (range 4 - 13 months), and median progression-free (PFS) survival was 7.5 months (range 2 - 11 months). The 6 and 12 months OS rate was 100% and 56.6% respectively, and the 6 months PFS rate was 93.3%. No major acute toxicity was observed. About 70% of patients experienced grade 2 toxicity in the form of headache, nausea & vomiting, skin erythema and alopecia.

Climate Change Impacts on the Extreme Rainfall for Selected Sites in North Western England

Impact and adaptation assessments of climate change often require more detailed information of future extreme rainfall events at higher resolution in space and/or time, which is usually, projected using the Global Climate Model (GCM) for different emissions of greenhouse concentration. In this paper, future rainfall in the North West region of England has been generated from the outputs of the HadCM3 Global Climate Model through downscaling , employing a hybrid Generalised Linear Model (GLM) together with an Artificial Neural Network (ANN). Using two emission scenarios (A1FI and B1), the hybrid downscaling model was proven to have the capability to successfully simulate future rainfall. A combined peaks-over-threshold (POT)-Generalised Pareto Distribution approach was then used to model the extreme rainfall and then assess changes to seasonal trends over the region at a daily scale until the end of the 21st century. In general, extreme rainfall is predicted to be more frequent in winter seasons for both high (A1FI) and low (B1) scenarios, however for summer seasons, the region is predicted to experience some increase in extreme rainfall under the high scenario and a drop under the low scenario. The variation in intensity of extreme rainfall was found to be based on location,season, future period, return period as well as the emission scenario used.

Background:Epilepsy is a chronic,universal disorder with various etiologies and *** is still laden with myths in the majority of the Moroccan *** the existence of well-established medicinal treatments and increasingly comprehensive care,access to antiepileptic care is still limited,especially for rural *** aim herein to identify the therapeutic itinerary of patients with epilepsy(or epileptic disorders)as well as the behaviour of patients and their families towards this disease in Marrakech and the surrounding region of ***:We carried out a retrospective study Questionnaire filled by 110 patients data was analysed with SPSS version ***:Our results showed that 69.96%of the patients believed in a supernatural origin of the disease and 76.4%attended for professional medical care after their first *** addition,more than half of our patients(51.8%)consulted a religious leader for the initial consultation,51.0%of whom were women and 49.0%were *** low socioeconomic status of patients with epilepsy,74.5%of whom were unemployed,impeded the effective management of this ***:These results suggest that the management of patients with epilepsy(or epileptic disorders)in Africa,and particularly in Morocco requires,in addition to the reinforcement of human and material resources,an effort to educate and positively influence the family and the social environment as a whole.
