Partition of Unity Finite element Analysis of Nonlinear Transient Diffusion Problems Using p-Version Refinement

We propose a high-order enriched partition of unity finite element method for linear and nonlinear time-dependent diffusion *** solution of this class of problems often exhibits non-smooth features such as steep gradients and boundary layers which can be very challenging to recover using the conventional low-order finite element methods.A class of steady-state exponential functions has been widely used for enrichment and its performance to numerically solve these challenges has been ***,these enrichment functions have been used only in context of the standard h-version refinement or the so-called q-version *** this paper we demonstrate that the p-version refinement can also be a very attractive option in terms of the efficiency and the accuracy in the enriched partition of unity finite element ***,the transient diffusion problem is integrated in time using a semi-implicit scheme and the semi-discrete problem is then integrated in space using the p-version enriched finite *** results are presented for three test examples of timedependent diffusion problems in both homogeneous and heterogeneous *** computed results show the significant improvement when using the p-version refined enriched approximations in the finite element *** addition,these results support our expectations for a robust and high-order accurate enriched partition of unity finite element method.

Self-supervised Learning for Speech Emotion Recognition Task Using Audio-visual Features and Distil Hubert Model on BAVED and RAVDESS Databases

Existing pre-trained models like Distil HuBERT excel at uncovering hidden patterns and facilitating accurate recognition across diverse data types, such as audio and visual information. We harnessed this capability to develop a deep learning model that utilizes Distil HuBERT for jointly learning these combined features in speech emotion recognition (SER). Our experiments highlight its distinct advantages: it significantly outperforms Wav2vec 2.0 in both offline and real-time accuracy on RAVDESS and BAVED datasets. Although slightly trailing HuBERT’s offline accuracy, Distil HuBERT shines with comparable performance at a fraction of the model size, making it an ideal choice for resource-constrained environments like mobile devices. This smaller size does come with a slight trade-off: Distil HuBERT achieved notable accuracy in offline evaluation, with 96.33% on the BAVED database and 87.01% on the RAVDESS database. In real-time evaluation, the accuracy decreased to 79.3% on the BAVED database and 77.87% on the RAVDESS database. This decrease is likely a result of the challenges associated with real-time processing, including latency and noise, but still demonstrates strong performance in practical scenarios. Therefore, Distil HuBERT emerges as a compelling choice for SER, especially when prioritizing accuracy over real-time processing. Its compact size further enhances its potential for resource-limited settings, making it a versatile tool for a wide range of applications.

Thermoelectric Properties of ZnO-P₂O₅/(Ni) Composites

The overall purpose of the present study is basically to understand the manifestation of the thermo-electrical properties of the matrix ZnO-P2O5 first, and of the ZnO-P2O5 composites loaded with different volume fractions of nickel (Ni) as conductive fillers. In the matrix ZnO-P2O5, the values of electrical conductivity varied between 1.14 × 10-8 and 7.8 × 10-7 (S/cm), and the Seebeck coefficient value varied between minimal value 265 and maximal value 670 (μV/K) in the studied temperature. In composite ZnO-P2O5/Ni, it was shown that the Seebeck coefficient changed from high positive to negative values when the filler amount was increased, indicating a non-conducting to conducting phase transition. Such behavior exhibits that this transition is accompanied by the passing of carrier charge from p to n type. The study of thermoelectrically transport for high volume fraction of filler enabled the achievement, for the first time on this kind of composites, of an original transition called PTC transition. Thus, highest values of power factor (PF = S2 ≈ 2 × 10-3 W·m-1·K-2 at 407 K) were obtained, giving a possibility of industrial applications.

The crystal of triphenylbismuth bis (Salicylate) pentavalent was synthesized from the reaction of triphenylbismuth dichloride with salicylic acid dissolved in methylene chloride at room temperature. The molecular and crystal structures of triphenylbismuth bis (Salicylate) were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. This compound crystallizes in the triclinic space group with crystallographic parameters: a = 11.2937 (3) , b = 14.6516 (3) , c = 17.8253 (4) , α = 78.2958 (7)o, β = 76.232 (6)o, γ = 85.351 (6)o, u=6.332mm, V = 2803.59 (11) , Z=2, Dc=1.693g/cm, F(000)=1392, T=293(2)K. The final residual factor is 0.0602 for 5806 reflexions with . The bismuth atom of the compound has a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal configuration.

A mercury （II） complex with 4.5-benzo-1.2-dithiol-3-thione （C7H4S3）（1）, [Hg2I4（C7H4S3）2] （2） was synthesized. The structure of the obtained complex （2） was characterized by crystallography, Infrared Spectroscopy （IR） analysis and theoretical study. The complex （2） has a dimeric structure, where each mercury atom takes a tetrahedral geometry and is coordinated by two bridging chloride, one terminal chloride and one thiocarbonyl sulfur atom （C=S） of the ligand.

Warkany Syndrome Revealed by Recurrent Infections: Case Report

Introduction: Warkany syndrome, also called trisomy 8 mosaicism (T8M), is a rare genetic abnormality characterized by a large phenotypic variability. This heterogeneity leads to delayed diagnosis in the majority of cases. Frequently, development retardation is the first apparent anomaly that imposes genetic study, and hence diagnosis is done. In other situations, the revealing presentation is atypical. Aims: Report a case of T8M in a child followed up for recurrent respiratory infections and insists on the global assessment of patients. Case Description: The patient, aged six years old, has been followed up since his first year for recurrent infections. At birth, the medical assessment was normal apart from bilateral testis ectopia and hypospadias. By the age of nine months, he presented several respiratory infections associated with wheezing thereafter. Immunity investigations were normal and skin tests were positive for dog hair. By allergen eviction and asthma therapeutics, the infant improved. During his follow-up, development retardation has been noted in addition to facial dysmorphism and limb extremities aberrations. Imaging investigations showed the agenesis of both the corpus callosum and the right kidney. Karyotyping on peripheral leucocytes and fibroblast culture revealed T8M in 6% and 87% of examined cells respectively. Conclusion: In the present case, the patient’s complaint is related to allergy. However, a global assessment of the child led to a rare condition requiring more care and careful follow-up.

Effect of Plant Fiber-Polyacrylamide Blend on Retention and Evaporation Water at Arid and Semi-Arid Soils of Algeria

Soil and water conservation is essential for sustaining food production and for preserving the environment in arid and semi arid lands （ASALs） where conditions for agriculture and other land use systems are often harsh and unpredictable. The ASALs of Algeria are an important source of a variety of non wood forest products like Stipa tenacissima L. plant （esparto grass）. This research was conducted to determine the effects of different low concentration （〈 I%） polyacrylaJnide, Stipa tenacissima L. fiber （esparto grass fibers） and its mixtures with the polymer at water retention in arid and semi arid soil. All samples are characterized by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray Diffractometry, thermal analysis TG DSC and scanning electron micrographs （SEM）. The results showed that polymer blend in soil could improve better soil physical proprieties decreased evaporation and increase water retention in arid soils compared with application of any other blend at the same concentration. The use of Polyacrylamide-Cellulose blend appears to promise for reducing the labor cost of irrigation at arid and semi-arid soils, and offers safe and environmentally friendly inexpensive materials. The importance of Polyacrylamide-Cellulose blends to alleviate poor physical properties and retain water in these arid regions to sustain plant growth.

Awareness of Hail Region Population about Facial Nerve Palsy (Seventh Cranial Nerve Palsy)

Background: Facial nerve palsy (seventh cranial nerve palsy) is a common neurological problem. The etiology is not fully understood but it is thought to be due to injury or compression throughout the seventh cranial nerve course. The study aimed to evaluate the awareness of the Hail region population about facial nerve palsy, its risk factors, methods of treatment, and prognosis. Methodology: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in the Hail region from March to June 2022. The study involved 224 participants in the age group 18 - 65 years and data was collected through Google self-administered questionnaire. Results: 65.2% of the participants were 18 - 25 years, 20.1% were 26 - 35 years and 14.7 were above 35 years. 91.9% think that exposure to cold air is the leading cause followed by viral infections (30.4%), stroke (27.6%), and genetic factors (13.8%). diabetes (8.5%), evil eye (7.1%), magic (4%), pregnancy (0.4%) and vitamins deficiency (0.4%). 92% of participants think that facial nerve palsy is not contagious and 8% have no clear idea. 89.7% think that facial nerve palsy is curable, 83.9% think that physiotherapy is the treatment of choice, 94.6% agree that early medical assessment is essential for good outcomes and 92.9 believe that avoidance of cold air is the best method of prevention. Conclusion and Recommendations: The majority of participants show poor awareness regarding the etiology and the preferable treatment of facial nerve palsy. Public medical education and further wider studies are highly recommended.
